I just started CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) today with my therapist. She gave me a handout to battle negative thoughts until our next session. I've been having a good day, so far no negative thoughts to journal. I have heard awesome things about DBT as well.

Yes, there has been a lot written about DBT here. It has been very useful to many of us.

Also, google or bing Marsha. M. Linehan (originator of DBT) & you can see her Skill Training Manual & helpful info. about DBT. If you can't find it in your area there are web sites that are dedicated to it as well as a free group called "Recovery, Inc." that meets at churches, libraries, etc. that utilizes similar skills & Dr. Linehan recommends it.

I have found DBT an incredible helpful coping skill & new way to "retrain" my brain & thinking in such a positive way that I've been able to get off some heavy duty psych meds (Abilify).

Good luck!

Oh, also, I have been able to go to a DBT therapy group specifically for eating disorders as I have dx of "Binge Easting Disorder NOS." Add another dx to my list!

And ck out the "Borderline" group here as they have discussed DBT as that was what it was originally designed for & now has been found to be helpful for all sorts of "conditions" & even "normal" people!!

There are several members of this team who have had great success with DBT, so hopefully they will chime in on your thread. If not, you can go to the main chat thread and ask there. Seems like someone was just talking about that the other day.

Wish I could be of more help!

Has anyone ever tried DBT therapy (dialectical behavior therapy) or know much about it? I've been doing a little research and it seems like a viable option but I'm curious to know more about it, especially from anyone who's been through the process.
