Dec 15 Tuesday Challenge

Do you know your foods and how they react in your body? As I have been on this journey, I have discovered that there are certain foods that trigger different things within in my body. Some cause unpleasantness and others lift my mood.

Take the time to really understand what you are eating today and how it alters the way you are feeling. Get to know your food and your interaction with it.

**********************************
I know that raw greens cause hives and breathing issues so avoid them at all costs.

I know when I drink my 8 glasses of water a day that I have a lot less digestion problems and that I'm not as dizzy.

I know that eating my veggie salad fills me up so I eat less of other foods at meals.

I know that yogurt helps me with digestion since I have less intestinal issues when I have yogurt each day.

I know that a small piece of DARK chocolate puts a smile on my face.

I have discovered that even having a scone (usually it is bread (as in a sandwich) leaves me feeling very bloated and crampy.

I discovered also last night that the potato soup I made did not sit well after about an hour. Not sick, just a heartburn type sensation.

I have discovered that drinking my lemon and water in the morning and before each meal, not only helps to fill me up, but it seems to aid in digestion.

I have discovered that fruit and veggies leave me feeling happy!

Have a fun day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Love this challenge, Wanda.

I am back in the office now that the RV is parked. That is always a challenge. I am workign hard at being positive, listening to co-workers, and if they are complaining, suggesting ways for them to change their viewpoint. Is it working? Not sure but all I can do is try. :)

I love this challenge and I completely agree. I will be shopping today, and it's NOT one of my favorite things to do. I will make a real effort to be patient and complement the people I encounter!

Your challenge today is Random Act of Kindness. Whether you leave your home or not, you can still participate in Random Acts of Kindness. Get creative and see how much positive energy you can spread in the world today.

We need more kindness in our world and if we want the world to change for to a better place we have to start right where we are.

Dec 1 Tuesday Challenge

Christmas will be upon us before we know it! It's often a time that we go over board in our spending and then struggle to make ends meet as we enter the new year.

Being healthy not only means creating a healthy body, but it means being healthy in all aspects of our lives.

Set yourself a budget for Christmas spending and then challenge yourself to stay within that budget. Are there gifts that you can make, are you trying to impress with the cost of the gift or is it really necessary to spend that much on a gift. Look for ways that you can create the same excitement with gift giving that are less expensive.
By staying within your budget you will find that you benefit your health in many ways. Less stress, less financial burden and an enjoyment of the season.

Have a great day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Thank you Tuesday...take the moment when you are interacting with others to say Thank you. Maybe it's for a service they have performed for you, maybe it's just to let them know you appreciate their friendship, maybe it's an act of kindness that you have seen them perform. What ever it is, let them know they are appreciated.

Create a ripple effect in the lives around you today that sends out positive energy.,

Remembrance Day and Veterans Day tomorrow, it's time to reflect.

Our two countries (Canada and United States) have been very blessed with the freedoms that we have. If not for those that served and continue to serve on our behalf we may not have these freedoms.

Your challenge today is to take the time to list all those that you know that have served on your behalf and send a prayer of gratitude for their service. I know it's a day ahead of the 11th, but let's honor them anyway. Wear your poppy as a symbol of respect.

Being "thankful" for all that you have (or don't have) is an important part of being positive. Your attitude sets the tone for any interaction that occurs during your day.

Start your day off with a list of things you are thankful for. Even if you are feeling not so positive, I guarantee you that focusing on your blessings will change you.

Today I am grateful for...
...living with the mantra "Be right or be at peace."
...my cousin's good news - no cancer.

I am grateful for a nice warm garage to park my vehicle at night saving me from having to scrap my windows and clear snow off my car before heading to work.

I am grateful for my job that enables me to help to pay the bills and help others.

I am grateful for joy that my family brings me and the reminders that even on those not so great days, someone loves me.

I am grateful for the joy of waking up in the morning and having a new day ahead of me to be the best I can be.

So many gratefuls and blessings.

Let's make it a "Trying" Tuesday today! Yep, Try something new today in your exercise routine, in your nutrition and with your interactions with those around you.

Is there something that you have been thinking that you might to try to do, eat or converse about...make today the day that you step out of your comfort zone and just go for it.

****************************************
When I left for work this morning, I had decided that I would have a good day despite being in the office this afternoon and that I would not be affected negatively by challenging co-workers.

Happy to say - deep breaths and thinking "Be right or be happy," the mantra my counselor gave me last visit, and they worked.

I had been wanting to find a smaller dinner plate with hopes it would help me with portion control, well I found some at Walmart with a fall theme and bought 4, and we used them for lunch today, I do think it helps having the smaller plate, glad I tried this.

I am going to "try" and have a technology free evening and instead spend the time going out for a walk around the neighborhood after dinner tonight. Will see if Kaeli wants to accompany me. I usually get my jammies on right after supper (some times even before!)

It's find your positives day!

How many positives can you find in your day? Remember that for every negative there is an opposite and equal reaction...you may have to dig deep, but it's there.

Your challenge is to find them all!

*************

Good one, Shirl!

1. Contractors actually showing up, and good estimates coming in for future work.
2. Having your doctor tell you he's surprised at how well you're doing post-op!
3. Knowing the housekeeper is coming while you're at work. ~sigh~
4+ I have too many positives in my life to count!!

We are almost at the midway point of another month...how are you doing? As we enter into the next couple of months filled with all kinds of temptations and holiday eating...have you got a plan in place to help you through those temptations?

What are some "tricks" that you are going to put in place to help you stay on track?

*************************

Last year at this time I was gearing up to lose some weight. This year I'm heading into the holidays at goal weight, so I plan to trot out the things I did that helped me lose weight through the holidays!

1. Exercise every day, even if it's only for 10 minutes or a lap around the block.
2. TRACK, TRACK, TRACK.
3. Stay within daily calorie goals.
4. Enjoy the really important parts of the holidays: time with family and friends.
5. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drink water before meals.
6. Make sure 1/2 of the plate is healthy veggies.
7. Eat a healthy and filling breakfast.

1, As I do my baking, I am putting it right into the freezer, leaving only enough out for each of us to have a taste.
2. I am making healthier substitutions when doing my baking. *apple sauce instead of oils, that sort of thing)
3. I am not denying myself treats, just limiting them to only occasionally and small portions. If I don't feel denied, I don't crave!
4. Filling up on veggies and fruits first!
5. By taking dehydrated fruits for snacks to work, I avoid the temptations of all the junk food that makes it's way into our department.
6. Drinking lots of water.

Have a great day.

We are into the season of cooler weather now and perhaps it's time for some of us to do some re-organizing of our space and things.

If you haven't already done your fall cleaning...make a start today! Maybe you need to get your windows all washed, maybe it's doing a deep clean in your home, maybe it's as simple as putting away the summer things and bringing out the fall and winter things. Whatever it is that is part of your routine in preparing for the winter months ahead, use today to get started on some of those tasks. Move your body and move your stuff...you will feel better for it!

We are still in the 70s F here so I am still wearing summer clothes. Have to get another box from work to pack some donations to Big Brother. Then I can think about fall cleaning in November when I am off the Hope Bus.

It's Target Tuesday time!

Set a target for yourself for the day and go for it. See if you can hit a bulls eye.

It can be one thing or a multitude of things, you decide.

I've been wanting to get all the plastic grocery bags taken down to the clothing bank, finally managed to get it done today, a small thing but one I wanted to get done.

It's Target Tuesday time!

Set a target for yourself for the day and go for it. See if you can hit a bulls eye.

It can be one thing or a multitude of things, you decide.

Great challenge today!
My targets:
1. Track all food.
2. Clear off walls in front bedroom. (finally got most of my son's things out of there, about to turn it into a "man room")

9/15: Reconnection time! Time to touch base with those that you haven't for sometime. Maybe it's spark friends, maybe it's neighbors, maybe it's family or friends. Has someone been on your mind lately...that might be the person that you need to say hello to. Take a few minutes today to reconnect. You might just be what that person needs today.

Will try and connect with some of my sparkfriends that I haven't visited for a while.

The long weekend if over and it's time to get back on track. How did you do, did you stay on track or do you need to gain control of things?

Your challenge is to re-evaluate your goals. Set your long term goals, but also set some smaller ones that you can achieve in a day, a week, and during the month.

It's never too late to do a challenge. My goal today is to add some exercise since I seem to have lost that habit.

Haven't been doing very well in staying on track, and I'll be eating out two more times this week, so my plan is to get back on track with eating healthier and getting in that exercise and water.

Goal for today: Eat breakfast, I have been slacking off in this area again.

Goal for this week: Walk a minimum of 5 miles a day and attend Aquasize class on Thursday evening.

Goal for this Month: eliminate 2 pounds.

Happy Tuesday!

Ok...it's the first day of a new month and we are about to get serious about regaining our health!

We have our goals in place for this month, so today we are doing a fridge and pantry purge!

Yep, that's right...we are getting rid of items that will not serve our ultimate goal of being healthy.

Box them up, donate them, toss them out, just get them out of your cupboard and fridge.

Have fun! (then fill your fridge and pantry with healthy eats!)

Really didn't have any food items I needed to get rid of, but did buy veggies and fruit when at the store today. I try and keep any junk food out of the apartment, but my DH sometimes sneaks things into our cart, sometimes I manage to get them out before we get to the checkout and other times they come home with us, but doesn't mean I have to eat them.

Obviously your brain waves headed towards RI since I did exactly this before I left for week. Even prepared a Greek village salad - made with no lettuce to which I'm allergic - for dinner this evening with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, mushrooms, onions & peppers. All I have to do is add feta cheese and a little bit of balsamic vinegar.

If you weren't afraid, what would you do?
****************************************
Wow! This one has made me think.

Like you, Wanda, if I weren't afraid, I would work part-time, and take care of myself. I'd love to not have to worry about finances - particularly paying rent so I have a roof over my head. I would use the time off to take care of me, read, and cook.

*******

If I were not afraid I would take a couple years and join the Peace Corps. I would love to put effort in to helping people and I have a lot of skills to offer. I am afraid of leaving my day to day life behind and afraid of the potential physical demands. I am not as fit as I could be and this has prevented me from doing things in the past. I am working hard now to be consistent and motivated. The financial realities are also a concern, I am at an age where I really need to be saving for retirement. I think a good solution would be to save some money for a couple years (in addition to retirement savings) so I can take a couple months to volunteer with a program abroad.

This may sound strange, but if I weren't afraid...I would retire from my working job! I would love to be at home doing more Suzy Homemaker things, making more things from scratch, more gardening and canning (on my schedule), volunteering. What's stopping me....FINANCIAL. The fear of being able to afford to live without financial worries even 5 years from now. We don't live an extravagant lifestyle now. I grow some of our own food, I can and preserve, we watch our pennies now and try to live debt free outside of our mortgage. I need a plan!
