Hello. I am new(ish) here but would like to play!
We moved to Missouri 16 years ago and two years later bought a small piece of land. We have a ranch house (one storey) with three bedrooms. There's only the two of us now so one bedroom, one office and one room to put the wintering over plants! -
My favorite place, though, is the Meditation Garden I am building in my front yard. We have about an acre or so fenced in around the house and I have chosen the North East corner for my garden.
This is it from in front of the house; you can just see the bench under the trees : The platform is for doing TaiChi, Yoga and meditation.
Then from inside the garden looking out :

We are hot, humid and green in the summer and cold, icy and brown in the winter.

Happy Tuesday.

I live in a suburb of Houston, TX. We moved here 11 years ago for my husband's job. We live in a 2 story, 4 bedroom house. 3 bedrooms up and master suite downstairs. Our backyard is just about all pool, which is okay by me. The weather is warm here so the pool can be used from April to October. It used to be heated, but the heater died of neglect before we got here. One block behind me is the "bayou" (Mason Creek) with a lovely paved walking/biking trail open from dawn to dusk. Our neighborhood (subdivision) is named "Nottingham Country". I guess we fancy ourselves British. This is a Texas take on TUDOR
It's a very nice neighborhood, people mostly keep to themselves. My husband just found out that 2 of our neighbors passed away when he was out doing yard work the other day! They passed away LAST SUMMER! It's not that neighbors aren't friendly here, we're just all wrapped up in our own business! The sun shines a lot around here and I try to get my 15 minutes of vitamin D every day. This is my mom and me in the pool last September. She likes it so well she's coming back to do it again this September. In the winter we get about 1 or 2 days of freezing temps and that's it. We have been here 11 years and have weathered one hurricane. That was an experience. We had all of the excitement and luckily, no damage. So I hope that gives you an idea of my surroundings. Irene I'll try and expand my description a little more.

We are located between the west and east side of our state in the lower middle. We are very fortunate in our state not to have a lot of severe weather, I guess you could even say our weather is pretty boring here compared to other places, but we like it that way. The last storm did take out a lot of power, but the crews were out there working hard to restore it all, we seldom lose power where we live and if we do it's not usually out for very long. In our building we have laundry facilities on 2nd and 3rd floor, the machines are coin operated, we also have a library on 2nd floor and the exercise equipment is all on 3rd. We have a lovely community room on 1st and people who live here can reserve it for family get togethers, we've used it many times, especially for holidays, but now that part of our family lives in FL we don't do that like we did. We have a lady in our building that does crafts and she's got the room reserved for this Sat. for a sale. We really like living here and the convenience of being close to things.

Sometimes getting others to participate is hard, we just have to keep trying. I will expand on my answer from last week too.

I live in a four level split house, which suited us fine when we had our kids still at home, now it's become a house where we seem to only use certain rooms and the others are left for when we have company *grin*. We have 4 bedrooms which are always available for our guests to enjoy.
Our kitchen is our main gathering place and during the summer months we do a lot of outdoor living on our deck. We gather there, eat there and have a generally great time. If the back deck gets too cool, we move to our front deck which gets all the late afternoon sun.
Our home backs onto a junior high school and despite that we have a lovely quiet back yard as the kids are gone all summer and we seem to be the only residents that utilize our backyard. Our back yard has gradually been turned into a gardening backyard with raised garden beds and fruit trees.
We have a generally quiet neighborhood except for the birds and squirrels that keep us entertained.

Last Tuesday I suggested we tried to get to know our team members, I asked if we could tell the team about where we lived! Maybe July 4th was the wrong day for being on line.
Thank you Shirley for describing your home area.

I would like to continue that theme today. Can you tell us where you live and what it's like around you , Perhaps Shirley and I can expand in what we said a week ago ?

I live in a small house in a small road in a small town The house is a single storey house, in Uk we say they are bungalows , it's a two bedroom house which suits me now,.
I am a widow . One of my sons shares my home , he's at work all week. . We moved here almost two years ago, Rught now as I look outside there's a grey sky. No movement in this quiet road yet it's 7 15 am. Thank you for participating . Irene

A getting to know each other challenge today . Can you tell us a bit about where you live ?

The city of Charlotte, MI is about 25 miles west of our capital, Lansing. My parents moved from Lansing to Charlotte out in the country when I was 2 yrs. old, so I was a country girl. Our population according to a 2010 zip code report was 21,182, sure it's grown since then. It's a pretty quiet town, has a lovely park that's great for walking. We live in town in a senior apartment complex in a three story building, there are stores right beside us in a plaza and lots of eating places, I sometimes joke and tell people we live on food alley. I like summer here as we have concerts downtown on the old courthouse lawn. It's a nice place to live and two of our DD's live close by.

A getting to know each other challenge today . Can you tell us a bit about where you live ?

I live in an urban community that is host to 100,000 residents including a large rural area surrounding us. Although we are technically a "city" we are one of the only places in Canada to retain our "county" status. Retaining our status allows us to keep our own identity.
We are only a 5 minute drive to the nearest city but rarely find the need to go as we have all the amenities that we need right here. Green space and living a green life style are highly promoted and encouraged in our community.
We have a diversified population but do tend to be on the higher end of income for cost of living. We are moving towards a more affordable housing in order to retain our young people and our seniors. We are proud supporters of our library bookmobile that sees a very busy schedule five days a week visiting our seniors home, daycares, rural schools and our rural county residents.
I love my community.

I live in a small town in Nottinghamshire England, it was a farming community , now its grown . But there are still farms and open country round the town,
I live in a one level small house on a road that's the highest point in the area, .it once had a Windmill at the top of the road where farmers brought their wheat to be made into flour .
Right opposite my house is a gate to a public park .all trees , ponds paths , it's a popular walking area, I love living here

Great challenge Irene,

I am very pleased with my progress with the acupuncture treatments. My reassessment yesterday shows that I have made a 68% improvement in the past 12 weeks. I am going to continue but on a moderated scheduled due to other financial commitments. But I'm determined to get to that 100% mark.
For my enjoyment...I am going to make some more watermelon smoothies to have ready to take for work and I am making family plans for this weekend.

I've been watching my weight forever. The number seems to have little bearing on how I feel. I have felt great at heavier weights and I have felt terrible at lighter weights. The more important scale is the "quality of life" scale. Feeling strong, capable and full of positive energy is the "number" that is most important to me. On a scale of one to ten, today I'm a 6 today, so I've got some work to do. Thanks for the challenge, Irene.

We are fortunate to have such a Varity of Vegetables available all year round . How do you use them?
A challenge to day is try to use a different veg from your usual ones
OR use veg in a different way.
Try adding chopped red Bells Pepper in with caluflower for instance .
Chopped onion in Cabbage
Have you cooked Celery with carrot ?
Grated raw carrot with chopped fresh orange segments ?
Let us know how you prepare Vegetables please ?

Lately I've been adding chopped raw broccoli to my tossed salads and today I picked up a nice bunch of radishes to use the ribbon disc on my Spiralizer to put them in my salad.

I have such a houseful of vegetables that this evening will be a veggie-centric meal (as they all should be, I imagine)

I will be oven roasting potatoes, carrots and asparagus for dinner this evening and serving them with leaves of Boston lettuce for vegetable wraps this evening. I'm making a sauce with avocado, peaches and serrano pepper to serve with the wrap. I'm also making a pot of minestrone soup for the hungriest people. It's a great time of year to enjoy the abundance of veggies. Thanks for the challenge!

I love my veggies raw, but I have never tried grated raw carrots with orange segments..just happen to have that on hand and will give it a go. Great suggestion.

Veggie stir-frys are also one of my favorite ways to eat veggies. I pretty much toss in whatever I happen to have in the fridge. It's a great way to use up those veggies.

seasoned weight watchers know scales can go up or down, I am learning not to panic at the first look at the numbers and they are UP .
Up can be a good word. I can up my water intake, or my exercise time.

I must say I do get a little frustrated sometimes when the scale goes UP, but most of the time it's just a reminder that I need to do better. Today I think I will UP my exercise.

It is a bit frustrating when those scales show an UP, but it's all in the attitude. I too look for the positives and try to just do a bit more towards being a healthier me. Putting a positive spin on any word can turn it around.

I admit I have not been as good as I once was with tracking, but it really is the key to being accountable.

I have made food diaries . I always mean to do them daily but I don't ,
Step tracking! I bought a step counter , I do find that helps as I keep looking at it then trying to get some more steps in.
I plan to track both my food intake and my steps today .

Good message here. I agree. What is right for someone for health and fitness and dieting may be different for someone else. We have to take in account our current health status and abilities and go from there. But as long as we're doing something positive towards our health goals that's a great start.

Hello on Tuesday, my alphabet challenge starts with R this week.

The word RIGHT sprang to my mind.
We all know Right from wrong in life and try to stick to what's Right .
But in the world of trying to be healthy there are many ways what is Right ?
I have heard many stories of a certain diet ,or eating a certain food is the right way to lose weight,. Become a goddess, and much more .
I have tried to follow many diets which were not right for me . Now I am choosing my own way to eat healthy and exercise more . It's Right for me, I encourage you to work at finding what's Right for you .

I wanted to fix something for supper that I'd have leftovers from so planned to pick up the ingredients when we went to the store this morning. My plan worked and I picked up stuff to make homemade goulash for supper so I'd have leftovers for Wed.

O for opportunity!

Will do some seated leg extension exercises and hopefully get in a 30 min. bike ride, walking is hard today as the callous on the bottom of my right foot is hurting and making walking not so pleasant, but I can find other things I can do regardless of that foot.

Irene I love this challenge, I keep the tread mill on and every once in a while during the day I go in and do 10 minutes (@ 3 mph) at least until I get my goal miles for the day. Every little bit helps.

At work instead of emailing or phoning a co-worker, I get up an walk to where they are.
Using the stairs rather than the elevator.

While at my desk, some stretching exercises are in the plan.

Time to be creative with what I can do.

It's L day . A nice letter it starts . love life and Like , but LEARN came to my mind.
All our lives we are learning. Even now we are still learning to adapt to new life styles perhaps, different health issues. ,family problems .

I have learned I am stronger than I thought I was, I can do things I never thought I could do.
Have you learned anything about yourself recently.?

I'm learning all about gym equipment and how to use it to help strengthen my body. Today is gym day (I'm going every other day) So I'll see what new exercise I can add to my repertoire today. And before I go, I will check on the internet to learn about target heart rates in exercise.

Tuesday soon comes round and its K day which gave me a few problems
I chose KEY.
I was thinking if every thing that had been written about diets and losing weight it would fill a big room. With a big key to acess them,
But is there a magic KEY that works ? There's no one KEY to success, we are all different . I think I have read half the articles and books on diets looking for a magic key .
The real Key to success is in ourselves . What works for you ? We all know what we should do . Maybe being KEEN and KEEP going are the K words needed ? I KNOW I need to move more . What do you KNOW about yourself ?

I know keeping consistent in all areas is helping me feel better and do better, so will keep on keeping on!

Hello on J day I am choosing abthoughtful word today
Journal . Do you keep a daily journal? Does it help you to focus in the day ahead I?

I am not good at journaling, but I do have a daily planner that I write down what exercise I did each day, how much water I drank and if I ate healthy that day. It helps keep me focused and to be consistent.

I started an INTERESTING project this morning. Clearing out my kitchen desk. I found an INTERESTING note that my niece wrote in a memo pad that I kept in my purse. I found some old magnets that used to hang on the fridge (they were INTERESTING) And I am only halfway done. And the most INTERESTING part of this project will be what will I decide to keep and what will I toss? INTERESTING!

H is the letter today it's a Happy letter ,it starts off Hopes too but I an using it in Habits .

It's so easy for something to become a habit ,As I haven't been well lately and not been out much.i developed a habit of having a mid morning snack .Also a daily ice cream often called to me ,
Now I want to Hoist those .Habits out of the .House and bring in good .Habits .
Have you a Habit you need to change?

I have a habit of stepping on the scale every morning. I am doing a Whole30 and you are not supposed to weigh yourself for the "whole 30 days". I have a Dr.'s appointment tomorrow and will be stepping on the scale, but for the rest of the month I want to ditch the weighing habit and just check monthly. We shall see if I can break that hopping on and of the scale habit.

It's so easy for something to become a habit ,As I haven't been well lately and not been out much . I developed a habit of having a mid morning snack .Also a daily ice cream often called to me ,
Now I want to Hoist those .Habits out of the .House and bring in good .Habits .

A habit I need to work on is procrastinating, life would be better if I'd just do the things that need to be done and not put them off, so will work on that.

I'm working on my "creativity" habit. By keeping my hands busy with knitting I am no longer having a snack after dinner hour. I'm also on a "chip free" streak of 4 weeks now.

Developing bad habits seems to come so easy, developing good habits takes a bit more work *grin*

Don't the weeks fly by. In my alphabet challenge it's G day

G for Go . Where shall we go? Physically if possible go for a walk or go to see a friend . , but also go with plans of doing things you keep putting off . I don't know where I can Go today but shall look for any opportunities to GO ,

F day. I see what jumps in my mind on a letter. Fish did first. Well yes fish is good for us and I will have fish today for one of my meals ,
But Friends is my word today. It's so easy to drift away from a friend , we lead busy lives , lots of excuses But today can we contact a friend ? E mail, phone write , visit? Which ever way you can. Friends are important .

Irene this is so true, it's so easy to get caught up in the business of life. This morning I sent out a couple get well cards to people from our church that are dealing with medical problems.

"Enjoy" is today's themel don't begrudge exercise time, play happy music and enjoy moving to it maybe singing too? Enjoy your food too, both making and cooking it, or even unwrapping it. Enjoy every monthfull

A more positive word is DO , do listen to your body Do eat healthy and many more things which you all know ,

Let's use Don't in a positive way; Don't get discouraged, Don't give up, Don't listen to the negative voices in your head, Don't let others tell you, you can't do it. I know I am being the odd ball here, lol.

I guess it's better late than never, been a very busy day.

In the Tuesday alphabet challenge it's letter C . I thought of several words but one jumped out at me .Choices , every day we make choices. Minute by minute .
can we try today to make Clever Choices ! Maybe start at breakfast , what Cereal will you have ? Is there a healthy option? Keep looking all day and be aware we do have Choice .

I had cereal with 1/2 a banana for breakfast, potato soup with saltines for lunch, and supper was out to Arby's two chicken tenders, DH and I split a value fry and also a salted caramel cookie, I know supper probably wasn't the best of choices, but after a busy day it was ok.

Thanks for the challenge, Irene. I had Life cereal for breakfast today, quinoa with chick peas & black beans...not sure what dinner will be.

Irene great word...my choice will be oatmeal for breakfast, salad for lunch, chicken and veggies for dinner....have to lose this weight I gained after my Birthday weekend.
