I think we all feel a connection to the place we were born but, I also think the connection is stronger to the place(s) we were raised. Mine just happens to be were I was born and all over Texas. I also have place in my hart for Wyoming, cause that is where I started school and my youngest brother was born. I have fond memories of rocking him and playing in the snow on the way to school.

I can see why your son feels like a Texan.

Home is where the hart is....

Born and raised in Maine...WOOHOO! Born in 1965

I have lived in a few other places but primarily all in Maine.

I never understood why we had so many tourist (it's actually one of our seasons!) But, when I traveled I started to understand that the slow life, small community and the large city we have really is only a small town compaired to CITIES like New York, Chicago, Atlanta etc....

I love to visit else where, but I so smile when I get to our state line or when I fly and come into our big city.

There is no place like home....there is no place like home

I was born and grew up in SE Texas, and then moved away when I was 22 to my DH's home state of Missouri.

Once I moved away, I was shocked to find out that other people weren't as "into" their state as I felt about mine.

So I know what you mean, Charlie, when you say that you've lived other places, but in your heart you'll always be a Texan!

By the way, my son was born in Kansas City, but from all the vacations back to Texas to visit our family, he "feels" Texan! LOL

Well Elaine,

We have three. Nubbin is a 8 year old chestnut mare, half Quarter and Arabian. We consider her Dubby's horse, she was well trained in Western style.

Mine is a 17 year old Arabian mare named Betty Boop.
Boo is her barn name and we were told that she has been ridden Western and English. She came from a place called Angle Fire. So a lot of different kids rode her. We bought Boo bread, so April 10th of this year Boo had a colt.

We named him Gray Stone Cheyenne and call him Chey. He is all Arabian and we have been doing ground work with him. He is five months old and he leads, backs, and even crosses a wooden bridge, plus a few other things. Our next thing to teach him is trailer loading. The mare's do all of that very well.

We really love and enjoy the horses even though we don't ride. They are beautiful to watch and we jokingly call them our yard ornaments. We do plan to ride them one day, soon I hope. Thank you for asking about them.

I have found that horses and cattle teach people a lot about themselves. Haven't you? One of the things I have learned is how important body language is, among other things.

Smiles,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

I think it is great that you spend time with your horse. I was at a clinic and the presenter said even if you just walk your horse to the mailbox and back as long as you enjoy being with the horse.

I ride a couple times a week. I have a Quarter Horse gelding named Duke. I ride English basically because I had lessons in GA when we lived there and that is what they taught.

Growing up I didn't like horses very much, but when my youngest daughter was about 12 years old, she and her girlfriend wanted to ride. I took them to a stable and they were on horses that wouldn't do anything, so I said they needed lessons. Then I needed lessons, and we needed a horse, and then my son wanted a horse. At one time I have had 7 horses. I had a couple mares that had foals, and have had places where I kept them myself.

Right now, I have my horse boarded at a small place less than 2 miles from my house. There are 11 horses in all there, and there is an indoor and outdoor arena. It works out very well as there are others to ride with etc.

Tell me about your horse.

Elaine

Oh Elaine, I just don't know. I'm still to fat, my balance is just not that good yet. Don't give up on me though. I am ridding my bicycle and doing Zumba to work on balance and I work with my horse and take her for walks too.

What kind of horses do you have and what style do ride? Do you ride everyday?

Charlie

Hi Charlie,
If you haven't ridden for a long time, maybe you could start out with a lesson from someone in your area. It could be on their horse or yours, and then on your horse. Start with just getting on and at a walk. It doesn't have to be for a long time. Gradually increase the time and go to a jog etc. With the exercise you have been doing, you may be pleasantly surprised at how well you will do. Elaine

I love to here that you love to ride! I have been working on gaining the confidence to ride my horse for over a year now.

I have lived in many wonderful states over the years and anywhere I go I'm at home but Texas is where I hang my hat and where I'll be buried. But, not for awhile yet I hope.

I was born in Berlin, Wisconsin January 18, 1937. I don't feel this old and still do a lot of activities like horseback riding, my own snow shoveling in the winter and mowing my lawn in the summer. I have lived in TX, NY, MI, SC and GA, but WI is my home state. Guess I just like wearing the cheese hat!
