Honeybea - thank you for sharing your experience with us. I always felt like I stuck out like sore thumb when I was heavier. My heaviest weight was 272 and now with the help of spark I am down to 212. 60 pounds gone forever. My esteem has skyrocketed. Here is a copy of my Sept 4th blog--

The other day a Spark friend asked me what has kept me motivated the last 8 months at Spark. My response was that I am motivated because I am in control of changing my body. Since getting married and having a child, (I'm sure some of you can relate here) having control has not always been possible. So this is one area of my life I have control and can make a healthy lifestyle change. Control has been the biggest motivator but here are some others: my 5 year old daughter wanting to do sit-ups with me, compliments from friends and family, being a team co-leader here at SP, wearing smaller size clothes and being able to run for longer periods of time/longer distances.

Today's Spark Healthy Reflections,"Winning Victory Against Yourself," relates to me being motivated to do my personal best and then see if I can do it even better. It also sheds some light on why I chose my screen name READY-TO-WIN. Here is the text from the reflection:

"No one likes to lose. The thrill of victory after competition is hard to match. But the wins that leave the most significant, long-term impressions are the ones where you win against yourself. Beating a friend in a game of hoops is much less meaningful than setting a personal best time while running. We live in a highly competitive world, and everything around us screams that we've got to be number one in order to feel successful. Truly though, the best measuring sticks are your past and your potential--not against someone else's standards. Raise the bar for yourself!"

"The best inspiration is not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves."

I can't say "I know how you feel," because I'm not you. BUt I feel like I went through something similar to what your going through. Before I started spark, I weighted about 206 lbs. I hated cloths, because nothing fit right, and when it did fit right I felt "fat" in them because I didn't like the numbers on them, or I hated the way they looked. I felt tired, moody, and ugly...all the time. I couldn't even look at full length pictures of myself. I hated feeling like the fattest person in the room. lol, I wish I could have ben invisible.

As it stands right now I"ve lost about 60 lbs. (45 with spark, 15 with first place before spark.)It wasn't easy, I usto cry going upstairs to do my cardio. It was hard work..I hated hard work. BUt I did it, because I no longer wanted to be unhealthy, I wanted to become something I had NEVER been...Stellar, Amazing, beautiful! I no longer feel like the fattest person in the room. Clothes are fun, (never thought that would happen.) I feel better, I look better, and I'm happy. It's an amazing feeling, and it's funny to see people's Jaws drop when u tell them how amazing u are because u lost it with diet and exercise, ( 2 most hated words in the english language!)

So just remember to celebrate every lb that comes off, bad days can be recovered, and ur amazing just for being here and making a difference in ur life!

I'm not trying to be inappropriate, just honest. If any of my words offend, I apologize in advance. When I get ready in the morning, I stand in front of the mirror in various stages of undress. I don't know about you, but I can 'suck it in' turn so that light and shadow hide and reveal the right places and things don't look TOO bad, but, they also don't look so good. When I see myself in a picture, well, that's when the truth is revealed. My husband and I have a picture of us taken standing next to two Europeans. It is so obvious who the Americans are, we're so fat.
I don't like looking like this, and I'm a somewhat attractive woman, even more so when I'm not carrying around 80+ pounds. Is my fat my chastity belt? I can't imagine why I'd lug around all this extra weight for no reason.
I do know that when I'm heavier, I'm invisible.
Does anyone else feel invisible? Have you lost enough weight to get noticed? How does that make you feel?

You are not sick because you are fat. You are fat because you are sick.

I've been noticing on a lot of the message boards are having people with the problem of motivation. So this weeks Challenge is to find what really motivates you. Anything from you kids, to the way you look. We're all been there, hey lets face it, we're only human, but we can come out it if we remember what got us motivated in hte first place. What got us to go up that first time, and get our exercise on.

Post about it. Nothing better then reading why u feel the way you do and affirming it. And hey, u just might motivate someone else too!
