It was great fun.... Although, like JNN, I didn't drop alot of weight, but that's okay. This challenge covered two significant holidays that typically involved a lot of food oriented activities/parties... a time most people gain weight. That's something worth acknowledging.

For you gals.... I did read the following article today and found it very interesting. It's about bone density. Check it out.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27645081/

Catch you guys in a couple of weeks. (JNN... Save those pictures for me. Maybe I'll have one of me on the beach. NOT!!)

Hmmm... I'd have sworn it was the 13th, since the sparkweek begins on a Sunday. Anyway, if I have to, I still have my information as I'm still posting. So I will put in today's numbers later :-)

LOL!! Ok so I had posted the 14th, but I really meant for the challenge to go through Saturday since SP starts their weeks on Sunday. I already posted results too. Sorry about that everyone....I guess I need to proof read before I post!

Isn't today the last day of the challenge (Sunday - 14th?)? Alan - Are you trying to trick us so we don't post our results? :)

Great challenge although it didn't prove to be a great source of weight loss for me. Much like teachers who teach to the test, I found myself adjusting to focus on scoring maximum points. However, I have built up much more strength from doing weight training every day so that's a plus! I also feel really good after the daily stretching. So that's a plus too! I have done a terrible job at eating low on the food chain. So I'm actually glad not to do a challenge now for awhile so I can refocus on what works for me and my body.

On a side note, every year we do a photo calendar for my parents so I was looking at photos pre-SP. What a shocker! I had no idea I really looked like that. If I'm feeling brave, I'll load a coupld onto my page. Eeep.

You're right Alan. It was a great challenge! Thanks to the few people who hung out until the end. You will just have to stick around to see what I have up my sleeve :)

I may wait until after the holidays to see if we can get more people to join and be able to stick with it. Maybe we should do daily challenges to get us through until then?

Whew... is it really the 13th today?!

That was quite the challenge. Thanks to everyone who participated with me and kept me going. And hoping that those who didn't participate will look back at the postings over the last several weeks, see the comaraderie, support and motivation that we gave each other ... and be enthused/motivated to join us in the next challenge.

Jenn ... what's up your sleeve for the next one??

And tomorrow is Sunday ... and not a challenge day ... so I'm going to rest ... a bit. I'm actually sitting way up on the overall points leaderboard and am taking the personal challenge to stay there for the remainder of this month. Which means I've I've still got 120 minutes of cardio and at least 5 strength exercises to do for the next 18 days.

I think I will have a complete day of rest on New Years Day!! :-)

I found this link posted on one of the Spark Teams. It is a couch to 5K running program. It is meant for new/beginner runners. I have been looking at it, thinking about it but haven't had the nerve to start it. If I don't start it in the next couple of weeks, I will make it my new year resolution!! My husband and a couple of cousins often take part in half marathons - maybe one day I can join them instead of just standing on the sideline cheering them on.

My challenge question response:
thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/news/stories
/d
r_as_patient.html

This is an article about Dr. George Fielding, a pioneer and world-reknowned bariatric surgeon. The article isn't about his life as a surgeon, but as an obese person - and all the diets and exercise and weight-loss attempts he had made throughout his life. Successful loss, but unsuccessful ability to maintain that loss - which is a problem that 95% of all those who lose weight are likely to suffer from. And then he himself had a Lap-Band put in him, and today - and for the last 9 years - he has kept off the 120+ pounds which he shed through diet and exercise, but with the help of the band.

So why am I motivated? Because back in 2006, I heard him speak and saw myself - as an obese person and the potential to be healthy and a normal weight - in him. When he had his surgery, he weighed what I weighed the night I heard him speak. He's my height. He's a few years older, but in my generation. And seeing him at 200 pounds, I thought "that could be me."

He was the final inspriration for me to have lap-band surgery. He performed the surgery. The lap-band didn't lose the weight for me - I still had to do that through diligence and committment; exercising a lot (as you can see from my challenge postings) and watching my calories (taking in fewer calories than I was expending). But the lap-band helped by leveling the playing field: making my sense of "hunger" equivalent to what a normal-sized person would sense. But I needed the playing field leveled so I could be in the game at all. And once I was in it, I played to win (and lol, as many of you know, I still play to win :-). There are people who will come up to me, usually other obese people, and tell me that "I cheated" in my weight loss. Let them think what they want. Today, I'm extraordinarily fit and healthy. And they're not. So if it was "cheating", I'd cheat again in a heartbeat. What it is though, is just another tool to help me control my life.

Anyway (getting back to the story), I saw what I was, and could be, in him. And I became what I wanted to be with his help (literally as the surgeon) and motivation. He helped me take back my life.

So this posting is so that you might get to know a little about him too.

Alan

This is my response to the challenge question -

I was reading the Jan issue of Real Simple and there was an article about a website that tracks your todo list called Jott.com. The cool thing about it is that you can also call a toll free number or text additional todos and reminders and stuff. So I tried to link to the online article but there wasn't one. But I think I found a better one. This article in the NY Times describes 6 FREE services that you can access from your cell phone. They mention Jott.com but also talk about others including a FREE 411 service by Google.

I love these kinds of articles because I would never find out about these types of things otherwise. And I love to find out any ways to save money :).

I'm going to chime in too here and suggest some more accountability on the type of calories and nutrients. Personally, I'd like to see the sodium requirement go away, but I know I've been remiss in how much fiber I'm getting, or even the mix of veggies AND fruit (my daily V-8 gives me lots of veggeis; I could probably use some more fruit too).

Hmm... I'm now in your boat Cahibomom. Despite staying in my cal ranges and doing 60-90 mins of cardio each day last week, I'm up .4 lbs. I'm back to my original theory from the other thread about the next challenge. I think I need to focus on the quality of the calories that I'm taking in(more fruit and veggies) and do more intense cardio (rather than longer; or maybe just mixing up the intensity).

We lived in Sydney - no snow there! You will have to go to Snowy Mountains for that. Sydney has some beautiful beaches though and Christmas was always a barbie (not the doll, a barbecue emoticon )on the beach!!

Thanks. It's amazing how not doing crunches and a good strong pain medication can help the hurt go away! :-)

No snow in Australia?? For some reason I always imagined there'd be snow somewhere on the continent. But its one of those places on my to-do list. Guess I'll just have to remember to go during winter there.

That must hurt emoticon Hope you feel better soon, Alan! Take care and don't do anything that you shouldn't be doing!!
Enough snow to build a snowman....I have never even seen snowfall!! All the places I have lived in have been sunny and warm - India, Malaysia, Australia and now California in the US. When we did go up the mountains here in CA....not sure if the snow was real.
I know what you mean JENN - I think I have reached a plateau and haven't lost any weight in the last 10 days. The only thing that is motivating me right now is the challenge you have set up.

I am sooooo jealous!! I can't remember the last time we had any noticable snow on Long Island - I'd be happy with enough just to build a snowman or make snow angels, let alone being able to sled. And yeah, the hikes up the hills for the next sled run sounds like good cardio.

In the meantime, I'm still getting my exercise indoors. Although my regimen may differ - it seems I broke 2 ribs while at the gym 10 days ago. I'd been working out through the pain, and my doctor's given me the okay to do so, but also strongly recommended that I avoid exercises for the abs and back. Which, given the pain (which got worse yesterday - apparently I had very very slight hairline breaks originally, but after a coughing fit yesterday made them worse), seems like a good idea even to a crazed nut like me :-) So I'm going to be more like the proverbial tortoise than the hare for the next couple of weeks - slow and steady and not nearly as strenuous. I won't stop though - I realize I'd actually feel worse (mentally) if I just lazed about and let the whole body rest.

I'm back from sledding.

I...thought...I...was...going...to...die
!

The snow was wayyy too deep. I lugged my kids in their sled all the way to the hill. It took a good 20 mins. My little one lasted one run down the hill and then cried to go home. Luckily, my au pair was with me so she took the baby home. But first I had to carry the little one all the way up. I was panting like an animal! Then I was left with my 3.5 year old. On Saturday, we went up and down that hill at least 15 times. Today? 4 times! It was so hard for me to walk in the snow and it was so hard for her little frozen body ... Finally, she just start crying and saying "hot chocolate!". So I lugged her back in the sleigh. Not so fun for anyone. The sledding should get better as the days pass and the snow gets packed in. Next time we get a snow day, we will play in the backyard!

The picture on my profile was from sledding last year. I'll need to get an updated picture!

Awesome SHEILA! Congratulations!

CAHIBOMOM - "And the instructor hits tennis balls at you while you run around the court"??? Are you sure that is legal? Sounds like battery or torture to me!!! I think I might cry... Then again, you've warned me that your are tough! Now about your cruise - I really need you to promise you won't fall off the wagon. If I'm here in 3 feet of snow in WI and I'm imagining you at the buffet sipping pina coladas, I will not have the will to continue...

My kids have a SNOW DAY today - we got about 6 inches last night combined with freezing rain. We're going to hit the snow hill later on today (I'm just in the process of moving all of my meetings). 1200 calories burned - here I come!

Guess what I did???? I paid someone to kick my rear. I deserve it. With considerable dread, I went to my husband's tennis club for 90 minutes of cardio tennis. Grown adults running around the court, doing drills, all the while the pro is hitting tennis balls into the far end of the court, expecting you to hit them. If you don't... "then we'll just do it again." (I'm sure there was a softer side to reality, but when wish you were drawing your last breath, and your heart is jumping out of your chest, your reality is skewed.)

The point... I survived! I may actually have to go back for some more. "Please sir, may I have another"... comes to mind.

It's good to be back on track. I'm going to make the most out of our last week. My weight is fluctuating, but I haven't been able to get the last 2+ lbs off to hit my goal before we leave for Florida. We'll see...

CAHIBOMOM, I know what you mean. I went through it during the Thanksgiving week. It is so easy to let one lazy day turn into a lazy week. I am glad I signed up for the challenge - forces me to post the minutes and that is the push I need.

So CAHIBOMOM .... if you were writing and telling us you still were not walking (or doing some other actitivity), maybe the tough love would be necessary. But since you've noticed what happened, and kinda beat yourself up for it ... that's probably tough enough.

Glad that you got back to the walking - even if it toom a lot of mental effort to do it. That's all you need is that little push to do it again (or maybe it's a *spark*).

You'll be fine ... and even with 4 days being lax, you're doing great!!

We all have some rough days. But, if I can get up at 5:30 am and drag myself out into the Nebraska winter, you can walk too :) Is that tough enough? I can get mean if you want ;)

Okay guys, this week was a rude wake-up call for me. It was way too easy to string 4 pitiful days together. After the first two days, the third and fourth were a breeze. I was on a roll, and started wondering what happened, and if I'd get back into the swing of things. When I think about it, it's scary.

Here it is, the weekend, and I generally do really well getting in my cardio in a big way. But, I had to force myself today. JUST WALK... at whatever pace you want. JUST WALK!!! I did. It felt good, but I feel like I have a hang-over. I can remember how easy and comfortable it was not doing anything. I slipped into my old comfort zone and stayed there for 4 days, and didn't blink an eye.

Scary..... (I think I need some tough SP love... or just a swift kick in the rear, if I ever do that again.)

Sledding..how fun! We haven't had enough snow here to do that yet. Can't say that I am too sad about that.

Ok on to the bonus question. Sorry it is late today. Been a pretty hectic day.

So here's an interesting fact: according to SP, 2 hours of sledding burns 1200+ calories. I can believe it! I took my 3.5 year old this afternoon and only brought one sled since last year she needed an adult to go down with her. This year, she only wanted to go alone. I was so proud of her! The only problem is that she didn't know/want to drag her sled up so I kept having to walk down the hill to get it and help her climb back at up. This was a huge hill - the teenagers were snow bording down it. For a moment, I felt sorry for myself having to walk up and down the hill so many times but then I thought "I will be rewarded at weigh in time".

JNNSALAS -- I hear you. I got home late, and only have time to get dressed. (Okay, and time to say hello.) Trouble is, I'm starving and oh how I want to eat like a pig. I think I'll take your lead .. no tracking, just concede that I'll be outside my calorie plan. I'll just make wise choices tonight, if there is any. I'm planning on having fun, and dealing with it tomorrow.

4GAYATRI/JNNSALAS - 120 minutes of cardio!!!! I'm in awe.

ALAN! GREAT GREAT JOB! Yay! I hoot. I holler. I bow down.

CAHIBOMOM - I hope you're holiday party goes better than mine. I had my company holiday party last night which I planned in its entirety. Which was a landmine since I chose the menu and only picked things I LOVED! Somehow I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I got there and perused the heavy appetizer buffet. You know on biggest loser when the contestants have fridges behing them with all of their most favorite foods - OMG - that was me!!! I didn't go nuts but I couldn't track it very well so I threw in the tracking towel. I've figured out that I have trouble tracking at potlucks, buffets and fondue - when meals are broken into multiple and varying bites. I know a strategy would be to eat more of 2 or 3 healthy things so I can track but - I really don't want to do that. So instead, I go into undercover no-tracking mode and just make healthy choices. The bad side to this is that I only got 9 pts yesterday (boo hoo!). Oh well.

4GAYATRI - I'm going to take your lead and do 120 mins of cardio today too! Go team!

JENN- If you can take it on, I think a group email with bday reminders would be great! It would be great to have that functionality built into SP. Hmmm...

Took a step forward to get back in the game (my game, not to be confused with the challenge), and did some stretching and strength tonight. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get in the cardio tomorrow. We're going to a Christmas Party, so I'll have to get home quick to have a chance.

It amazes me... I actually WANT to get back on the treadmill. Who would've thunk that 6 weeks ago?

Not me!!!!

Oh and I also meant to say that I have been horrible with the birthday list. I really meant to keep on top of it. Maybe I should start sending out emails to the entire team the day of each person's birthday with a link to their page. I am on another team that does that and it always gets me to go visit that person's page to leave them a birthday wish.

It would be nice to get more people involved in challenges. I know life sometimes gets in the way, but I think that the challenges I take part in really help me remain accountable.

Wonder how we can show those other non-active members what a great group we have going here??? Hmmm....

LOL - I was, and still am, hooping and hollering. Literally. Stepped on the scale this morning around 5:30am while wife and daughter were still asleep - I woke them up!!

I'm gonna enjoy the drinks ... and then it's back on the treadmill :-)

Thanks!!!

I would love to see more people taking the challenges too - for their own sakes, as these are very beneficial. I just noticed that there are nearly 11,000 members in this team. You'd think there'd be more than the dozen or so who seem to be active now who would be interesting in participating more.

I think what we need is for one of the many companies that advertise on SP to offer up real, tangible goodies for challenge rewards :-):-)

You can whoop my rearend and post some significant points on me today. There will be no excerising for me tonight. I'm just hoping to go to bed earlier tonight.

Getting back to the bonus question - I have nominated a few people in the the last couple of months. They motivate me in different ways - I am encouraged and inspired by their weight loss journey. There were a couple who emailed/commented on my spark page/left me goodies/answered my questions when I first started. My team members who take part in the challenges and make an effort to post/chat regularly keep me going.

Alan (aka Thor), Sounds like you might follow that HIT strategy. HIT stands for High Intensity Strength Training, and was a featured SP article yesterday(?). When I read it, I was wondering who out there might be following it. Sounded like, if you knew what you were doing, it could be very benefical even to a novice like me. You've talked about working with a personal trainer. I would assume that he/she who would really help you in that regards... making sure you were "performing" the exercise in the correct manor. It does make alot of difference.

So hmmmm... I'm thinking that maybe I should change my name to GeorgeofLansingMI so that these stalkers can't find me ... :-)

Just a couple of comments... first of all, brawn always enjoys and appreciates beauty, and I think they not only mesh well but they certainly play off and motivate each other. Personally, I'm more of a Norse god fan (thank you Marvel Comics), and would like to think myself more as Thor (despite the fact that I don't have long, flowing blonde hair or have any idea how to wield a hammer), but I still just like being me - and am very glad I've found SP and the support I get here!!

As for the exercises, here's the hint to why I have so many different ones on any given day: single set (2 if I'm doing each arm or leg or side separately), 12 reps, each rep being 10 seconds long (4 second positive, 6 second negative). Doesn't seem like a lot, but done correctly and with the correct weights, those last 3 reps are usually killers. Anyway, doing a single set should take exactly 2 minutes with 30-60 seconds between exercises. So even 30 minutes of workout gives me 10-13 different exercises. The days that I have 5 exercises is just 15 minutes. Not a whole lot of time out of my day. But good results.

Enough for now ... goodnight everyone!!

Alan.... I'm laughing so hard at JNN's comments about being a SP stalker, cause what I've sincerely felt the same way. Your modesty is wonderful. However, I have to stick with the perception I had a couple weeks ago. You are the "HERCULES" of the team. And, the rest of us women our the beautiful greek goddesses of the team. (Wherever there is brawn, there is beauty.)

This has been such a great team. So many people reaching out to one another, keeping it fun, and supportive. I belong to couple other teams, and there's no comparison.

I'm always keeping my eye out for those that are more quiet about their SP adventure. They're here with us and trying to staying focused... trying to find their way, like us. Unfortunately, we all have our personal challenges. It's just great that we can reach out for support...and it comes back to us ten-fold.

I'm following Alan's lead and nominating 3 people.

The first person is our fearless leader Jenn! Jenn has been wonderful at setting up these challenges up for us. I know it can't be fun tallying up all the posts and such. So I really appreciate it. She's also been awesome at giving me personal encouragement when I really needed it and I appreciate that. Lastly, I love that she's been really honest with everyone about her own struggles with the numbers... that takes courage. Her dedication to SP and being her leader is awesome! (And on a superficial note - I LOVE her hair!)

Next up, ALAN! I've talked so much about Alan these past few weeks that I think I'm bordering on SP stalker :). I do think it is encouraging that he's stuck with it for so long and just seems to quietly plod along contently. I always look forward to his posts as they are often so even tempered and straightforward. It reminds me to leave the drama at the door and just do it! I also like to look at Alan's postings for the day. I sometimes struggle to get my 30 reps of 5 exercises in so I marvel when he has, like, a 20 exercises on his list. I do wonder where he gets all the time - I like to think that he's a retired billionaire or something. Or maybe that's what life is like once the kids grow up a bit!

My last motivator is CAHIBOMOM! Lately, she has nailed a perfect 28 every day which is so impressive and she always takes the time to leave messages for me and other people. She's so thoughtful and genuine - I really think she genuinely cares for all of us which is so generous on her part! Some days I feel that it takes everything in me to get all of the challenge items accomplished so I'm so impressed that she does that too AND makes the time to actively encourage/motivate others. I also love looking at her ticker - she's nearly there which is so exciting given that she started with us. It gives me confidence that I'll get there some day too!

There are lots of others too who motivate me namely everyone who is still committed to finishing this challenge! Go team! We're awesome!

A note to everyone -

I just thought I'd share something I learned about tracking food in the nutrition tracker this Thanksgiving. I blew my sodium a few days in a row and couldn't figure out why. I found out today! If you select "Turkey Breast Meat" I think it means deli turkey because the sodium is through the roof! If you want to select actual turkey breast from a real looking bird, you need to select "Turkey (white meat)". Live and learn!

I wound up nominating 3 people, giving the drop-down reason of "Positive Attitude".

But it's more than that - they motivate me not only because of their positive attitude but the way they express that positive action. I tend to be a "quiet leader" - I do my thing and hope that others are inspired by it without trying to "push" it on anyone. If I'm only trying to inspire myself, then complacency sets in and I find myself slipping, or falling back to old ways. Similarly, if I am quietly setting an example and no one sees it, complaceny also sets in. (If no one wants to be lead, inspired, motivated, supported and/or guided there's no reason to be leading, inspiring, motivating, supporting, or guiding. Kinda like the question of a tree falling in the forest and no one's around to hear it... :-). Anyway, what inspires *me* is when I see I've somehow inspired others. And the people I've nominated are those who have seem to have been positively pushed by me to pursue their goals with a bit more fervor. (Don't get me wrong - they are all quite determined already). And the way they express it - with a positive attitude - not only motivates me to continue my own healthy habits, but is also (hopefully) motivating others.

Thanks to all!! But special thanks to those 3 :-)

Well, I allowed myself to go totally off track these last several days. Eating without regard to consequence and not exercising. One good thing is that I am being honest with myself and as embarrassing as it is, I updated my ticker to my current weight. In the past, I would try to hide from my SparkPeople teammates and friends so they wouldn't know the truth. I am not going to do that anymore. I blew it - it is what it is. Today is a new day!

Well Alan, you found me out ;) I just have to think of a new challenge to work through New Years :)

We are going to my grandma's tomorrow for my daughter to set up a Christmas tree for her (she hasn't had one since my grandpa died 2 years ago). I may not have a chance to be on so I thought that I would give you an extra day on this week's bonus.

We talked about motivation a little a few weeks ago. A big part of motivation I get here from SP are people in my teams just dropping by my page or from reading posts. I am stealing this week's bonus from a challenge I was on a few months ago because I think it is very important.

This week, go to someone's spark page that motivates you and nominate them as a SP motivator (you will find this under a box on the right hand side of their page that says "does ____ motivate you".) Then come back here and tell us why you motivated that person. You don't have to give names (you can if you want). I think it is important for us to keep the motivation high and to remind those that motivate us that they have helped (who knows, that may motivate the person you nominated to keep going!)
Also this will help us to all think about the different ways we are motivated and that not everyone is motivated the same way.

Have fun :)

Over the last three days I wasn't as much in control as I had hoped but it wasn't as bad as it could have been!! The guests left today and it should be back to normal from tomorrow. Christmas should be a lot easier since it is going to be just the three of us at home.

Hi Jnn. First off, please call me just "Alan" ... I'm pretty sure that I'm the only Alan here (or at least who posts regularly) and ALANOFLINY works as a login name, but if anyone actually ever called out to me and said "Hey, Alanofliny!" - I'd probably ingnore them out of embarrassment :-)

That said, I hear you about the "day after". I had to work really hard this year not to go overboard. My take is that by trying to be overly good on a day where we're expected to be bad (e.g. overeating at Thanksgiving), we sabotage it the following day. For me, I know I sometimes look back the next day and think "gee, I really wish I had tried some (or had more)of the -fill in your favorite fattening/salty dish here-" So the next day I have that typical "retaliate against having deprived myself".

What worked for me this week was not depriving myself on Thanksgiving. Okay, so I planned the rest of my day so that I did not eat any other meals, but once we arrived at my cousin's house, anything being served was fair game to be eaten. The other trick was to take the portions that I needed, rather that what my head wanted. So I had every side dish, but limited it to 2-4 tablespoons.

Now, as for getting out of bed to workout - lol - I'm not *that* crazy!! As it is my wife complains that I feel this need to get on the treadmill at 10pm before climbing into bed with her (which means I'm not in bed until 11:30 or later). So I'm certainly not going to (or rather she's not letting me) get out of bed once I'm in it!! ;-)

Finally, don't beat yourself up over with "was it worth it? Heck No!" So the fondue night was just what you said it was - a surprise. And it sounded like a nice one (I happen to LOVE fondue!!). Sounds like you enjoyed the food and the company and had a good time. So it was worth it. Do you want to do that everyday? No. Do you want to always deny it? Nope - you don't want to do that either. It all fits into the overall healthy lifestyle picture. One day (or even a few bad days) does not destroy all the good work done so far or yet to come. And we even appreciate those special meals more when they come infrequently - and are a pleasant surprise!!

Anyway, my congrats to everyone who stayed the course (more or less) this holiday weekend. I think this was in Jenn's plans, and why the challenge lasted through Thanksgiving rather than just up to it - to keep us thinking healthy during the holiday.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!"

"Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels."

My key to success: Follow *most* of the guidelines, *most* of the time.

So how is everyone doing with all the festivities this weekend? I was looking at everyone's postings and was very impressed that not only most people stayed in their ranges but also worked in exercise. Woo hoo!

I was able to stay on track on Thanksgiving, fit in cardio and strength training. Mentally, I had been getting ready for the BIG DAY for a couple of weeks and was determined to stay on track. And it did except for a surprise sodium overage that I didn't see coming.

But then the day after Thanksgiving happened. Apparently, I would have been better off mentally preparing for the day AFTER Thanksgiving than actual Thanksgiving. Half way through the day I was already over my sodium. I still have no idea how (I need to do some investigating). And then my husband surprised me with a night out at the fondue place. I realized about 10 mins into the meal that I was so trying to memorize every bite I was putting in my mouth (2 shrimp, one bite chicken, two pieces pork, 3 mushrooms, etc) that I wasnt paying attention to the conversation anymore! I briefly thought of ALANOFLINY eating an uncomplicated meal somewhere out east before I threw in the towel. I ate all healthy whole foods (we also opted to cook our fondue in veg broth - no oil) but I gave myself permission to stop counting.

Then, to make it worse, I was crawling into bed last night at 11 (I always go to bed at 9pm!) and thought to myself "Oh my, I didn't do any strength training or stretching today". My routine was so off yesterday - I just simply forgot myself. I briefly considered getting back out of bed to do a workout (thinking ALANOFLINY would get out of bed) but then soon crashed.

I got a whopping 11 pts yesterday because of this which I'm quite sure might knock me out of the top 3. Was it worth it? Heck no! So I'm now vetoing fondue dinners until this challenge is over.

Keep it up people!

Keeping with the humor... Supposedly, this is a true story:

A MOM'S PRANK BACKFIRES

One year at Thanksgiving, my mom went to my sister's house for the traditional feast.

Knowing how gullible my sister is, my mom decided to play a trick. She told my sister that she needed something from the store.

When my sister left, my mom took the turkey out of the oven, removed the stuffing, stuffed a Cornish hen, and inserted it into the turkey, and re-stuffed the turkey. She then placed the bird(s) back in the oven.

When it was time for dinner, my sister pulled the turkey out of the oven and proceeded to remove the stuffing. When her serving spoon hit something, she reached in and pulled out the little bird.

With a look of total shock on her face, my mother exclaimed, "Patricia, you've cooked a pregnant bird!" At the reality of this horrifying news, my sister started to cry.

It took the family two hours to convince her that turkeys lay eggs!

THE TURKEY, THE PARROT and the IN-LAWS

Martha had a parrot called Brutus, the only problem was that Brutus cussed something awful. Now Martha was having her in-laws over for Thanksgiving, and so she needed to train Brutus quickly not to swear.

Just before her Mother-in-law was due to arrive Brutus cussed terribly, so Martha but him in the freezer for 2 minutes to literally cool off. Then she opened the door and took out the parrot along with the turkey.

'And have you learned your lesson about cussing?' Martha asked the parrot.

Brutus the parrot took one look at the dead turkey and said: 'I sure have. But I have one I have a question, "What did the turkey do?"

Found this somewhere on the web.....

Twas the Nite before Thanksgiving

Twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the kitchen;
I was cooking and baking and moaning' and *****in'.
I've been here for hours, I can't stop to rest,
This place is a disaster, just look at this mess!

Tomorrow I've got thirty people to feed,
They expect all the trimmings - who cares what I need!
My feet are both blistered, I've got cramps in my legs,
The dog just knocked over a bowl full of eggs.

There's a knock at the door and the telephone's ringing;
Frosting drips on the counter as the microwave's dinging.
Two pies in the oven, dessert's almost done;
My cookbook is soiled with butter and crumbs.

I've had all I can stand, I can't take anymore;
Then walks in my husband, spilling rum on the floor.
He heaves and he wobbles, his balance unsteady;
Then grins as he chuckles "The eggnog is ready!"

He looks all around and with total regret,
Says "What's takin' so long? Aren't you through in here yet??"
As quick as a flash I reach for a knife;
He loses an earlobe; I wanted his life!

He flees from the room in terror and pain,
and screams "MY GOD WOMAN, YOU'RE GOING INSANE!!"
Now what was I doing, and what is that smell?
Oh, darn, it's the pies!! They're burned all to hell!!

I hate to admit when I make a mistake,
But I put them on BROIL instead of on BAKE.
What else can go wrong?? Is there still more ahead??
If this is good living, I'd rather be dead.

Lord, don't get me wrong, I love holidays;
They just leave me exhausted, all shaky and dazed.
But I promise you one thing, If I live 'til next year,
You won't find me pulling my hair out in here.

I'll hire a maid, a cook, and a waiter;
And if that doesn't work, I'LL HAVE IT ALL CATERED!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Enjoy...

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving,
but I just couldn't sleep...
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees...
Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries, please.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone....

Thanksgiving will be hard for me because I have no control over what the food is. We go to my aunts. I know there will be all the traditional foods, so I will just plan to take small portions of those things that I like the most and leave the other stuff for someone else. Christmas will be easier because my hubby does the cooking so I have a little more control of what is at our house. We do go to my aunt's for Christmas Eve, but we normally just do soup and sandwiches that night (well and all the pies and cakes and things that I just don't want to think about right now!) I also will make sure to get to the gym or at the very least out for a brisk walk.

Since I start SP I've really haven't had any big event that I have had to worry about. Thanksgiving will be my first big stepping stone. My plans are to eat the things I like the most in small portions. Send people home with any desserts that may be left over or anything I can't put back into my diet. I'm not going to make or sit out alot of snack that are not healty choices. But I will have that piece of Cheese Cake ( a small piece) that I enjoy so well. I'm hoping that I will stick to the Plan. Wish me luck. Wishing you all a Happy Health Thanksgiving.

This year I am concentrating on eating healthier and smaller portions. Looking for healthy alternatives to the high fat, high calorie foods. I am already eating smaller portions.

I haven't been too good in the past with my eating at food related events. This year, I plan to suck on strong mints while cooking, so that I'm not nibbling all of my calories while cooking. For Thanksgiving, I am going to be sure that we have some healthy options, like lots of veggies, so that I can still have suitable portions of my favorites (stuffing, pie, etc) but round out my meal with lower calorie, healthy items.

I am tired of being my own roadblock!
