Working off too many calories or not eating enough. Will adjust. Actually took Wednesday off completely (no workout no 4 mile walk) and ate 300 calories more, and was 2 pounds lighter or Thurs Morning than I am today. Go figure???

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I have the new challenge set up. Sorry for the delay. I also changed the weigh in date and I have a personal reason for doing it. I joined SP on 12/27/2012, so I am having this one start on 12/27 as a way to motivate myself once again - I hope you all do not mind! I hope you are all joining me in the New Year Challenge!

Well, looks like I'm in good company, a couple pounds up from my start weight!

A couple of days ago, I was at 211.8 but of course, that wasn't my weigh-in day. I, too, am hoping for better next time! I'll repeat myself and say that I really need to get back to tracking my food - if I say it often enough, maybe I'll follow through!

Merry Christmas! emoticon Apparently it's been awhile since I've been on here! I had 3 weeks to fill in today. I am down today but not yet back to the beginning. The next one will be better. I believe that after the first of the year I will be able to stay home more and stay on track better with eating, exercise and water. Right now I'm in Michigan at my son's house for a week while the grandchildren have vacation from school. Yesterday was travel day for me and it took way longer than I expected because Friday was a lot of everything taking longer that expected. In the end I didn't leave my house when I wanted to and didn't get here until about 12:45 am. That's a long drive! But I'm here and we'll cook and rest today and then play for a week before I go back home.

Congratulations to everyone for being persistent in weighing in and recording their weight - whether they like the number or not! Also congratulations to those that have lost weight. The rest of us will just have to work at it again for the next go around!

hang in there Sue, it's probably just retained water.
I just put an apple pie in the oven for tomorrow. Have to make a quick run to the store, then I will start baking bread.

I was down to 177.4 on Monday and stayed there until Wednesday when my scales took a little jump up and another on Thursday! emoticon They did head back down to within a pound of my lowest number yesterday but then DH and I went out for dinner for our anniversary last night. I know that my rainbow trout, veggies and roasted potatoes would not have put me over my calorie range for the day and I only had the tiniest taste- not even a bite - of DH's Bailey's cheesecake although the waitress brought 2 forks! Another jump today probably sodium from eating out. The maddening thing is I've only made the goodies, and so far I haven't even sampled them! emoticon Oh well I'll continue with my plan to eat everything in moderation and keep up my workouts. Eventually any gain is going to disappear again.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!! emoticon

Weighing in a day early since tomorrow will be a busy day. Down 2 more pounds. I can't believe I've lost 25 pounds since starting the challenge! I feel better and have more energy. I did not bake Christmas cookies, as I had planned, and it's turning out to be okay. I do continue to feel hungry, especially in the evening before bedtime. I usually have a cup of tea and a slice of wheat bread. It helps some. I'm trying to take the pleasure focus off food and treat food more as fuel for my body...kind of like putting gasoline in your car for fuel.

Look forward to our next challenge and where it takes all of us.

Thanks to everybody for all the inspiration and support these last months. God Bless and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Jerri - glad that your tracking provided encouragement for you. I appreciate your post - I'm going to need all the encouragement I can to get me back to posting my food, so hearing a positive experience like yours is helpful.

My good news for today is that I'm down about a pound and a half this morning, which is still up from a couple of weeks back, but at least I'm not continuing upward!

Thanks for the welcoming messages SP friends! I now have two days tracking my food and fitness. I had an evening binge yesterday and didn't want to log it but I did. To my surprise, it didn't blow my totals completely out of the water. So, now I'm happy that I did the tracking. I don't want to binge again but I've been really beating myself up over my slips the past few months and avoiding tracking and, what do you know, the tracking helped me to put it in perspective and to move on with a positive attitude. You just never know...Another day of tracking toady and taking it a step, a day and a bite at a time. Have a good one!

I'm late in reporting my weigh-in... I weighed on Sunday - didn't like what I saw, weighed again Monday, no change. Wasn't excited about reporting it, but I need the check in - I'm not giving up! Went out to dinner on Saturday, so I thought the bump on Sunday was short term due to the (utterly delicious) onion rings I splurged on. Well, maybe, but the weight seems to be hanging around. emoticon With some luck and commitment, maybe I'll see a bit of a drop next weigh-in.

I've decided that I really need to start tracking my food, so I plan to do that starting January. I pretty much know what my challenges & slip-ups are, but tracking makes denial much harder!

emoticon Jerri! I was away for a while too--but ready to get it done again!

Breakfast with my neighbors was just what I needed to get me out of this funk I have been in! Still preparing and tracking again! Doctor wants 20 pounds off by April appointment!

Christmas will be easy as I am home with no family around--no baking and making a roasted chicken for Dinner that will turn into a pot of chicken soup later in the week!

I'm back after a month + of being AWOL. Gained a few pounds and feel afloat. Talked to my sister today (she and I are diet buddies) and committed to log my food every day, regardless of what I eat. Didn't make a long list of other commitments...one step at a time. We talked about how I've been waiting to feel like changing my actions and agreed that what works better is to change my actions which will change my feelings. So here I am. Good to see some familiar faces. Thanks Noreen for reaching out a couple of weeks ago. Sorry that I didn't feel strong enough to respond at the time. Thanks to everyone for being here.

Happy Monday from chilly (Brr!) Chicago! Yesterday was very cold, but at least the sun was out, and then the sun went down and you could literally feel the temperature drop. Took my Mom to church, did a little shopping and out to lunch. Then back home and John did the Christmas cards, I wrapped presents and we had soup for dinner in front of the fireplace. Watching season 2 of "Man in the High Castle" - if you have Amazon Prime I highly recommend it!

Sue - this is the one time of year I bake - I'm doing Snickerdoodles. I bring them on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and give some to the neighbors. I keep a small amount at the house for us.

Sherry - you are right, the fact that we check in means we are not giving up. I am strategizing for the new year.

Kathleen - I know you can do this!

Have a great day everyone!

Marilyn - That's a good plan to avoid making the cookies entirely. I enjoy baking and this is the only time of the year that I do very much of it so I'll be doing some but not as much as I sometimes have in the past. I always have to make shortbread and I have an easy chocolate truffle recipe that probably packs more calories than I care to think (uses sweetened condensed milk and 16 ounces of chocolate but I do use dark). Those 2 are staples along with my cranberry ring. This year I'll also do gingerbread men and sugar cookies for my grandson (not that the big kids won't enjoy them too!) In the past I've often done a gumdrop cake and at least a couple of other kinds of cookies but I'm sure there'll be plenty of "goodies" for everyone and I'll probably try to send some home with my kids.

Several years ago I managed to indulge sparingly in the Christmas goodies and not gain any extra pounds. That's my goal again this year along with keeping up with some exercise. My scales were down another pound this morning emoticon Now to see if they stay there! emoticon

emoticon MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Down 1 more pound...yeah!

Every Christmas I bake lots of cookies to give away as gifts and always eat so many, that along with all the other Christmas goodies, I always gain 10+ pounds over the holidays. So, this year I'm changing all that. I know if I keep the old habit, I'll lose half of the progress I've made since joining this challenge. So, I'm going cold turkey and baking zero cookies. But, it's not just the weight loss or potential weight gain that's my motivation. I found out I'm pre-diabetic and need to make dietary changes or I will become diabetic. I've been down this pre-diabetic path before and know what to do and what not to do. I just need the discipline to carry out the plan of losing 20 more pounds and increasing my exercise. So, I've accepted all this and moving forward with my plan over the next 2 weeks+.

Hope our group continues with a new challenge after Christmas and New Year holidays. All of you have been a great inspiration to me as I read about your triumphs and tribulations, too.

I wish peace, love, and happiness to all in the coming new year.

emoticon Marilyn

Went down a very small bit. Not enough to really count. Basically snowed in so have been working on quilts. Trying to get some done. Did get the baby blankets/receiving blankets. Did get some fabric cut for 2 more quilts that my grandsons will arrange the blocks for. They don't know it yet but they're making their own quilts, I'm only sewing them together for them. Hopefully I'll get them done before Christmas so I can give them then.

Making some progress here and finally got into the 170s emoticon Now the trick is going to be to stay there from Christmas to New Years when I indulge more in the goodies. Since I retired I don't have to worry about too many Christmas goodies sitting around at work or being given to me, or holiday parties! My challenge is just not eating too much of my own baking or treats that come into the house over the Christmas holiday that I have to watch!

Hi Della, thanks for the welcome! We got some cold air moving into southern Tennessee tonight also but don't think we will have snow but maybe next weekend, which would be nice for Christmas, then it can go away. LOL I'm battling the holiday food, just trying to keep my head above water by watching portions. Making candy and cookies for grandchildren but not going overboard, balancing that with some fruit, they love bananas and berries and so do I. I walk with my fitbit tracker a minimum of 10,000 steps, upping my game to between 13,000-15,000 which will offset some of the extra calories.
Glad to hear your recovery is coming along. God bless and thank you, 1 pd at a time is a good goal and a great way to look at this journey.

Consider the possibilities

My heart Dr said all was going fine.He did have to cut my bp meds in half as my bp was dropping to 80/40 after taking my normal amount. I have a real bad cough. I feel like I am coughing up a lung! I went back to work Monday and Tues. but could not do it today. Just really worn out from all the coughing. Two days left until vacation so will try and make it tomorrow if we have school. We had 2 hour delay this morning because of the ice. It never did get above freezing today and now we are having a lot of down trees and broken trees. They say it is going to snow tonight so will just wait and see what morning brings.
I want to welcome those that are new and hope to be here to support each and everyone one of you.. Please take it easy and remember one step at a time, one pound at a time.

I have missed writing on here and even now have just a few minutes-and on my phone no less-but am having great fun getting to know our new (first) grandbaby! He just turned 3 weeks Monday. Been so long since I held such a tiny baby!! We are doing a semi/kind of Christmas tonight which will be nice.
DD and SIL haven't been been home for Christmas in a few years. They've lived in Oregon since 2010, and we really like to visit anyway. Now there's an even better reason to make this trip👶🏻

Sherry - You have me beat on the length of time wearing contacts. Mine are disposable and I change them every 2 months. It's supposed to be every month but 2 works pretty well for me and is what I was told when I originally switched to the disposables.

Kathleen - You can't say that all of 2016 was a failure. You had a slip up but you WILL get back on track - in fact you've already started! Good luck with your plan! emoticon emoticon

Noreen - It's not the shovelling that's the problem - DH got out and beat me to it after at least 8 inches of snow fell Sunday and into early Monday morning. He said he couldn't sleep so got up early to clean out the driveway and walk. I would have done the latter but it's probably just as well that I didn't. It's the conducting that has probably aggravated it as I did three days in a row last week and another performance yesterday. I've managed to burn a good number of calories on 2 of those days when I didn't sit down at all during our band or sing along sections - about 265 calories yesterday over about 50 minutes! Just one more day and our group will be finished for this month. The shoulder felt better on Saturday after a day's rest but then bothered me again on Sunday night - maybe from my knitting that day.

Nancy - I can relate to your unpredictable scales! I FINALLY made it to 179 last Thursday emoticon - a loss of 1.4 to reach that number. The next day the scales were up 1.6 and Saturday ANOTHER .8!!! for a total gain of 2.4!! emoticon emoticon My eating was all within my calorie range, no high sodium intake or junk food so I was totally stymied by the gain. The only thing that occurred to me just today was that I took some cold medication Thursday night, Friday morning and night and Saturday morning. because I've been trying to fight off a cold for more than a week. However it didn't affect my weight when I started to take it over a week ago. Good news is that the scales bumped back down to 179.6 this morning - still not as low but at least back in the 170s. I do hope that they'll stay there.

I got in over 10500 step doing all the decorating down around here ( aside from my upstairs railing) on Saturday - although I did get a bit of a start on Friday afternoon. DH helped a bit - the miniature village is his project each year as he bought it. It really is an all day affair to get everything out and up (10 plastic bins of various sizes - only one has tree decorations) and some of the other things packed up and put away for the Christmas season. Still haven't done the tree (next week sometime) and of course there is shopping and baking to get done but I can start to concentrate on that beginning Thursday. I will concentrate on getting my baking organized today and working on my knitting - not sure anyone is meeting at the library so I don't plan to go out.

I hope that you're feeling better Della and get your healthy problems sorted out.

Scales are weird... weight is weird... A little self-talk here: the scale is just one tool of many. It's so easy to get hung up on what the scale says. Its info is best viewed over time rather than one day to the next or even one week to the next since weight can vary so much from day to day depending on so many factors.

That said, I don't doubt I'm up this week as we had a house guest last week - we managed healthy eating at least half the time, but then there's the other 40% of the time. Even so, I have a hard time believing a 3.4 pound gain. But it is what it is, or the scale says what it says so I'm noting it, moving on to next week and working on not having last week become habit!

Happy Monday all! Busy weekend running errands and shoveling snow. We walked downtown for dinner Saturday evening. Put up Christmas lights outside, got a new tree yesterday and put up indoor decorations. The time just flies by!

Mabel - have a good week!

Lin - well done Lin!

Marilyn - great job Marilyn!

Chris - glad to hear you had a good loss this week! Way to go!

Kathleen - I know you will succeed in 2017!

Did a little more shoveling and put some salt down. Lots of people out walking!
Have a great day everyone!

Had a busy week getting decorations up to get ready for Christmas and continue worrying about my little dog. We return to the vet tomorrow to do lab work to see if meds are working. Regarding food, I've definitely cut back on portion size and cut out soft drinks and late night snacking. It seems to be working for me. Best wishes to all!

emoticon I actually had a good loss this week. Now if I can keep it going that direction. Lots of snow here so not getting out as much as I was before. Will try to keep the steps up by walking around the house.

Working on getting a new furnace, our other one died. Getting the finances for it is harder then putting one in I think, or at least it seems to be. We do have little electric heaters to help keep the house warm until we can get a new furnace in.

I am sure my 911 trip for HIGH BP / MIGRAINE and not being lucid or even knowing the neighbors who had to sign me in will stick in my head through this journey! Never AGAIN PLEASE!

THIS IS IT! I FAILED 2016 BUT WILL NOT FAIL 2017! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon WE ARE ALL emoticon

TGIF! Busy week as I had a conference downtown but plenty of steps those days since I walked from the train to the hotel. Great conference too! Doing pretty well eating, but off track on working out and running - that will be my focus for next week. Also need to get a handle on Christmas shopping!

Sherry - how exciting to go visit your first grand baby! Airfare is so crazy. We were looking for tickets from Chicago to London planning a trip to take my Mom to see her sisters. One day it was $1200 the next day it was under $500. Well, we grabbed it at around $456 round trip! What a pain with those contacts! I've never had soft ones, always had hard ones or gas permeable which were easy to get out - that is a little scary! We had the heavy wet snow on Sunday too.

Marilyn - so glad your fur baby survived! Hope all is well!

Chris - keep up the downward trend!

Mickey - even down a little with the celebrations is great! Happy Birthday!

Lin - hang in there! Sure how the fireplace gets approved soon without too much of a hit to the finances.

Nancy - great job!

Joann - the sodium will get you every time!

Rachie - glad you are hanging in there!

NewVine - glad you are checking in!

Sue - hope your shoulder is better - take it easy on the shoveling!

Della - hope you are feeling better soon!

Kathleen - glad you have the clear to exercise and hit the trail again! I'm sure you can hit that goal by April!

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm hoping to be productive and stay on track!

Sue, I've been wearing contacts of some version or other since 8th grade, more than 40 years. I told the doctor this (getting them stuck) was really embarrassing for someone with so much experience. She said, "No, you shouldn't be. These things happen, but you were one of the few who actually had them stuck. Most people think they're stuck, but they were really just pushed to one side and partly under a lid."

Guess that's something to be proud of... ;)

On another note, related to your directing, I just saw this news article on our university website this morning. Quite interesting about how students learn to conduct, and how the instructor got to where he is today. It has a video clip as well. It's titled, "Teaching students to lead without saying a word." www.news.iastate.edu/news/2016/11/30

Sherry - I've been wearing contacts for almost 40 years so I can relate to the "hard to remove them" although I've never actually had them stuck - just difficult to remove at times when my eyes get overly dried out. It does leave my eye feeling irritated. I think I might have accidentally slept with them in a time or two which really makes them feel dried out in the morning. I would have thought that putting a second contact on top of the left would make it even harder to see though. My funniest story about wearing contacts goes WAY back to when I'd been wearing them maybe a year or two. My hubby and I were visiting his grandmother and in my packing I'd forgotten my contacts case and solutions. My contacts spent the night in a couple of shot glasses with some water and a bit of salt I think! No harm done - I purchased another case and solutions (used to have to use 2 different ones) the next day. Right now with the recent change in my prescription, my glasses are so out of whack that I couldn't wear them if I had to. I'll have to try to get the prescription changed in them but DH needs new glasses first.
Enjoy your grandson. It doesn't seem all that long ago that I was helping my daughter with her newborn at this time of year - he had his fourth birthday a week ago!

Lin - Sometimes we just need to "vent" about things that are bugging us! That's why we're here - right? emoticon Enjoy your emoticon and emoticon emoticon I hope that you get all of your problems resolved. A gas insert will make things cozier and certainly be less work.

I'm off this afternoon to begin three afternoons in a row of singing and conducting our Drifters choir as we present our Christmas music to several area nursing homes. I discovered last week that the conducting and singing is a pretty good workout (additional of course) so I'll be wearing my HRM and counting my calories!

Have a good day everyone!

Stuck in a rut with no motivation. I need to get HOA approval before I can install a gas insert into my fireplace. Waiting on the installation guy to call me to help me explain on the form what will be altered and to ask him if there is any way we can combine the current brown vent with the new shiny one. Frustrated to the hilt. plus it will stretch my finances to Kansas and back (which I could put up with if I had a nice warm house and able to watch a fire when it snows!).
made a big pot of all veggie soup yesterday to eat while the temps are in the single digits and below 20--expected Wed and Thurs. of this week. Maybe some snow, but they keep pushing that back 24 hours.
think I need some emoticon with this emoticon

Some heavy, wet (but very little accumulation) snow on Sunday -- the first snow is always a "not ready for this" event.
But snow wasn't as big a deal to me as getting not one, not two, but three contacts stuck in my eyes this weekend. I was trying new contacts for the second day on Saturday and that night couldn't get the left one out. Poked around, tried lots of things, eventually went to bed knowing that wasn't a good thing to do. Next morning decided to try putting another of the same type on it (I'd read this as a suggestion) and inserted the right one as well before going to church. When I got home, neither of the two in the left eye would come out. I called our first nurse number, she referred me an urgent care clinic and that's where I learned that a) yes, both of them were still in the left eye and b) when a clinic doesn't have anesthetic drops for the eye, getting stuck contacts removed hurts. A lot. Thought I was ready to go and told the doctor I'd take the right one out as well so I could wear my glasses to drive home. That's when I realized the right one was now stuck, too. More pain, but at least there was only one and it didn't take as long as the left eye.

Drove home, DH took me to the pharmacy where I waited 20+ minutes for the tiniest bottle of any medication I've ever seen that cost me $44+ with insurance, and I started my week-long antibiotic drops treatment.

I am getting used to wearing glasses all the time for at least this week, although I don't actually wear them most of the time at work. They're bifocals and I don't need them for most of my reading and screen work.

Whew! I do not wish that experience on anyone. But I know now those contacts are not right for me ;)

We're going to visit daughter, SIL and new grandson later this week. Haven't held a two-week-old baby for a very long time, so it will be fun. And I think I'm learning what I heard long ago from other grandmas about how much your life changes even if you don't think it will. After two weeks, it's almost hard to think about life before there was a grandbaby.

Hope everyone is doing well and making plans to get through the next several weeks. We have a staff lunch today so this will be my start of being conservative and thoughtful when I eat. Good luck to others with the same "opportunities"!

Been busy all this past week with my sick doggie and vet visits and meds. But she is doing much better now and getting back to her perky self. Usually during a crisis, I turn to food for comfort, but this time I managed to stay on track. I'm still working on the discipline I so badly need to continue on this healthy track. Best wishes to all....

No change but then I didn't post past week until about Wednesday! Pounds disappear very slowly these days but as MickeyJ said, better that than gaining!

Joann - I avoid meat as much as possible on my pizza because of the high sodium content of things like pepperoni, salami and sausage. I try for ham (still salty but doesn't seem as bad) or chicken when adding meat to mine. The good news of course is once you get the sodium flushed out again your extra pounds will quickly disappear.

Snoq overnight - enough that the driveway probably should be shovelled (first time this season) so I'm trying to decide if I want to do that (with my still sore shoulder) or just keep to my treadmill for my workout this morning. Decisions, decisions...

Have a good day everyone! emoticon

Thank you everyone that kindly posted about my losses. I appreciate you.
Definitely one foot in front of the, other baby steps. I finally vacuumed my place but didn't want to as there would be no dog hair left to complain about. That boy could sure shed. But I did and it was ok.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Kathy I am really sorry to read about your migraines. I hope you find a speedy solution.

Not a good weigh in today! And I know exactly why - that's the good news. I was doing good this week and was down a little bit yesterday morning. However, yesterday was the day I was going to "The Christmas Story" with one of my friends. It was done as a musical and very good. I should probably sit down and watch the entire movie sometime. I'm pretty sure I have never done that. After the play we went to Old Chicago for dinner. I had an individual pizza - the Meat Me one. With the first bite I knew I was in trouble for my weigh in today. There was so much salt in all of the meats on that pizza. It tasted really good but I was extremely thirsty for the rest of the evening. Still trying to get enough water into my system to counteract that pizza. But at least there are no left overs by getting the individual pizza. It was just the right amount. I'm looking forward to a calmer week this week so that I can get some Christmas stuff done, like baking and decorating and cleaning my house. The family Christmas party at my house is not until January but my quilt guild Christmas party is at my house on the 19th so I want to have everything done by that date. Then I won't be stressed out when I'm gone for a week over Christmas/New Year's about having to do a lot of cleaning when I get home before they all show up at my house on the 6th of January.
Congratulations to those that lost this week! I need to focus on water, sleep and exercise this week to get back on track. My goal is to at least get back down to where I started the challenge by the end of the challenge.

Joann

Now in AZ... same brand scale, different floor. Here, it sits on a tile floor & when I got on this morning, I could feel that it wasn't solid. So, when it said 211.0, I thought I'd try it again, making sure it was solidly on the floor. I like 208.8 a lot better! My snacking seems to be better controlled here so far; I'm hoping I can keep that up and at least maintain through this challenge (3 more weeks) or maybe even drop another pound or two.

Rachie, Was so sorry to hear about all your losses...I can feel your pain because I've lost loved pets in the past and I still have to cry when I remember how sad it was to lose them and their companionship. Just this week I almost lost my little 5 year old doggie...I was really scared on Tuesday, but the vet worked miracles and my best fur friend is still with me but will have to be on expensive meds the rest of her life and we expect to have ups and downs with her health.

I send heartfelt prayers your way as you cope with your losses.

Marilyn

Was trying to figure out why I wasn't getting any updates from this challenge thread. Then I realized that -- duh -- I probably didn't open the last email message I got, so I wasn't getting any more.

Just bought plane tickets for DH and I to travel to Oregon to see new (first) grandbaby. Sigh. Price changed during the booking so had to go back and choose different flight leg. And this was after some cheap prices earlier this morning disappeared. I mean, literally, disappeared. Was looking at different days and when I went back to a day I'd looked at just a minute before, the price was up nearly $100. I know I shouldn't wait too long, but there have been several work and home things that needed to be done/accounted for, before we could decide our days to be gone.

Now I hope it's not snowing next week because we're driving two hours to and from the airport.

Kathleen, I've had migraines but none so powerful and awful as yours sounded. Hope they and you figured out the reasons and how to attack it.

We're going to Cirque Dreams Holidaze tonight. Looks like a fun show. If it gets done in time, we'll walk next door to a college basketball game for which we also have tickets. Whew, glad this week is almost over!

Well this week is just flying by! Eating is going well, but really need to get a run in soon! Work has just been crazy busy! Celebrating birthdays tomorrow at my SIL's house for my hubby and niece. There will be pizza, but my SIL usually has salad too!

Sue - you are so close to changing that middle #! We have not had any snow here yet, but there is a definite chill in the air.

Della - good to see you back on the page here! Glad you checked in.

Rachie - so sorry to hear about your fur baby losses and your son's losses too! Heart breaking! Hang in there. Glad you came back here and are trying to get a handle on things. Take care!

Have a great Thursday! How did it get to be December already??

Rachie - So sorry for your losses. emoticon Pets become so like family and it's really hard when we have to put them down or they pass away unexpectedly, especially when like your dog, you've had them for many years. Thinking about putting down our beloved Alaskan Malemute who's been gone more than 11 years can still bring a tear to my eyes. Succumbing to comfort food is so tempting but maybe you can try to do a bit of exercise whenever you feel tempted or find something else to do with your hands to keep you busy and not reaching for food that you'll later regret eating. Good luck to you as you deal with your losses.

Well, haven't been on in a while...Lots of sadness. Lost two very loved animals one a cat I named Mae last month that took a year to tame and had just gotten her fixed and kittens fixed and all but one kitten adopted. I have that kitten now..and the day after Thanks Giving I had to put Dakota my dog down due to aggressive cancer he took a serious turn for the worse during the night. I had him for 13 yrs. Still kind of walking around aimlessly after that. Then today my son who has a place in Texas called me just heart broken as one of his horses passed away during the night and he himself lost a dog a month before that. We were like what the He** is going on! All I want to do is comfort eat. Thank goodness I stopped drinking but the comfort food is such a temptation. So I thought what can I do to support myself thru this and, well...here I am. I could back the weight back on so easily and have done some of that...but enough is enough...baby steps..

So sorry that I have not been on here for a while. I had a house full over Thanksgiving and have been so busy catching up and getting back on track. I have been able to go to deep water aerobics 3 times this week and have plans on going again tomorrow night. I can do 4 nights until the first of the year then it will be back down to 3 nights a week but I love it! They will not have classes the week before Christmas or the week after but we can go in at the same time and do it on our own. I am planning on going and doing my best so it will not be so hard going back in Jan.
I hope all have been doing well...taking it one day at a time, one step at a time, one pound at a time and if you are like me one ounce at a time!

Very slow posting here but it was university and CFL playoff weekend up here (Saturday/Sunday) and we didn't get home from my mom's until Saturday afternoon. Monday I was out singing and practicing all afternoon and of course yesterday was knitting group at the library.
Had a great time last week visiting family and yes there was a turkey dinner on Friday night at my MIL's with 2 BIL's and their wives and one nephew. My BIL from Ohio who likes to cook did most of the meal and cooked enough for an army! At least we could leave the left overs behind! Just as well as I still returned home with an extra pound which has fortunately disappeared. Did some walking in the snow which had fallen and continued to fall Thursday for a good workout.
I've been conducting our little Drifters choir since our conductor has been ill (and may not be back for some time if at all) so the other day I decided to see how many calories I burn while singing and conducting and wore my HRM. Although I forgot to turn it off for maybe 10 minutes or so after we ended the program (normally about 40 minutes) I burned about 189 calories and 20 minutes of that time I was in my target zone! We'll be singing three afternoons next week and two the following week to get in all of our visits to the homes early before Christmas so I think I'll be wearing the HRM and tracking my calories to count as extra exercise! Our Christmas program usually runs about an hour. Too bad I can't bank those burned calories for later in the month when I may be exercising less and probably eating more ( at least Christmas to New Years). emoticon

Kathleen - Glad that you got your pool problems solved. I hope that your R&R helps to get you feeling much more like your normal self again soon!

Marilyn - I hear you on the Christmas cookies. I like to bake at Christmas time and probably do more than I need. Of course I also like to eat too much of it too! My goal this year is to TRY to maintain my weight over Christmas. I'll see how successful I am.

Noreen - Haven't tried the overnight oats but I do make oatmeal several times a week for breakfast adding dried fruit and usually some sunflower seeds. I can cook it quickly in my microwave.

Mickey - Nice to see that middle number change - regardless of how tenuous that loss may seem. I'm hoping to see the 170s in my near future - staying there of course will be another matter!

Congrats to those who celebrated losses over the past week. I'll have to try to get my weight posted in a more timely manner for the last month of this challenge.

Happy Wednesday everyone - this week is flying by! Chilly but sunny here today! Staying on plan with my eating this week. These overnight oats make for a convenient, healthy and filling breakfast! I need to make 4 more today to get the 2 of us through the rest of the work week. I was also successful at arranging transportation for my Mom's pulmonary rehab! They can start taking her on Monday and will be able to take her and pick her up every Mon, Wed and Friday and it will only cost her $16 a week through her Township. Luckily my sisters can take her today and Friday this week.

Nancy - safe travels and enjoy your time in AZ!

Kathleen - so glad you will be able to enjoy a clean pool again! Hope you are feeling back to your old self soon. Great reminder from your son on your eating!

Lin - we had our fireplace converted to gas and have ceramic logs. We would never build a fire and have the clean-up. They are coming out soon to convert my Mom's UGLY stone fireplace from the 70's to a direct vent gas fireplace. It will be much nicer and not take up half the living room. Also, she will no longer have to light it - it will be much safer for her. I'm sure you will enjoy yours! Also, nothing like clean air ducts! We did that when we moved to our house.

I hope everyone enjoys the day!

Good Morning team!

Forced myself to get out of the house yesterday! Pool store is only 3 minutes away so I felt very safe driving! Good news is that the pool is now clear--bad news that the pump died emoticon So I ordered a new one and it will be in on Friday. Then no more pool worries.
I also picked up my new migraine and pain meds~~ hopefully i wont have to use them. Going to brush up on my paleo diet as my son reminded me I never had a migraine when i was being good eating.

That is all I NEED to do for this week so I am going to stay in my jammies and relax away this 'off' feeling I still have......

Thank you everyone for the good wishes and goodies! It means a lot and does cheer me up!

Lin--sounds like you are doing great! Love the Happy face!

Today is so exciting! Inspector coming to look at the fireplace to see if I can put in a gas insert emoticon , Coit is coming to clean out the air vents, whoopee! emoticon
Then I'm going to the gym and get in my first workout this week.
Noreen, it sounds like you have a great day set up!
Nancy, when I worked the elections the very first day I had to get up at 5:30 and then 6 every day after that until the last two, then it was 5:30 both days! my body thought I'd lost my mind. Now I try to sleep in but I'm up by 7 almost daily, without an alarm.
Kathleen, so sorry you were so ill---I know it is very scary! glad you have good neighbors to watch over you

Happy Tuesday everyone! Yesterday was a good day. The overnight oats in the mason jar are a very good/healthy and filling breakfast. I was going to have my mason jar salad for lunch, but I was on conference calls and ended up with a protein bar and string cheese instead. Sauteed scallops and and Arugula for dinner and no snacking in the evening - I'll call it a good day! I got the wide-mouth 1 pt. mason jars at Wal-Mart and they work out really well! John is having them too after he stepped on the scale the other day.

Nancy - I don't like getting up that early either and I"m not retired - LOL! Just hang in there with the challenge, do your best and regroup for the next one!

Kathleen - so sorry to hear about your migraine! Hang in there and I hope you are feeling better!

Have a great day everyone! Sun is shining after a rainy Monday.

Good Morning Team! I had a really bad weekend--called 911 saturday because of a massive migraine--lots of tests and meds and i came home Sunday evening. Still sore and a little off but trying to get back to myself! So lucky my neighbors came when the ambulance did because they got me all signed in while I was floating in a different universe. I have never been in so much pain! Or so out of it. I am still feeling off and not very strong--but I will get it together--just guessing it is a withdrawal from all the meds...............I have to make appointments with my doctor and the neurologist for results of the heart ultrasound~~~all the rest came back fine..

As I'm reading some of the recent posts, it occurred to me that Sunday came and went without me even thinking about it being weigh-in day! I had to get up early (6:00 AM - and for a retired, non-morning person, that's EARLY!) to be at church early to run through 4 pieces of handbell music (plus 2 hymns) in order to ring at 2 services. Then DH and I headed to DD/SIL's house for the afternoon & dinner. The day just flew by and disappeared! Didn't think about weighing today, either, so I'll try to remember tomorrow morning.

Wednesday, we head back to Arizona for the month of December. I will try to get back to healthier choices, but I'm not expecting great results for this time around. I was so hopeful early on, but got derailed... But I'm not giving up - I'm in it for the long term.

Thanksgiving was pretty good. A lot of driving for me. I picked up my Mom and then drove out to John's niece's house and then drove my Mom home and then to my house. I also took my sister's dog for a walk in the morning and in the evening since my Mom is dog sitting. I took my Mom went for a pulmonary rehab appointment on Friday for her COPD and they do think they can help her so she starts on Wednesday. It sounds very promising. I did run on Saturday - 5 miles and lots of yard work on Sunday. Back to work today. Hope everyone is doing well!

Kathleen - sorry to hear about your pool filter! It's always something.

Marilyn - good for you for sticking with your Thanksgiving plan! Great progress!

Chris - sounds like you stuck to your Thanksgiving plan! Making progress.

Lin - the salt will get you every time!

Mickey - congrats on your first 10k and great time as well! Congrats on getting back to the 140's. Those hills can be killer!

Joann - sleep is so important! Good luck with the deadlines!

I'm working on eating well this week and off to a good start. Using our mason jars to have overnight oats for breakfast and salads for lunch. That way we can prepare things ahead of time!

Apparently I never got here to record my weight last week. And it was down 1.5 pounds from the week before! Now I'm back up just about a whole pound. Most of it is attributed to not enough sleep and not enough water. I was furiously working on a shipping deadline for my 12 Days of Christmas Swap with some quilters on Facebook. I did get my package mailed on time, but didn't get much sleep the 3 - 4 nights before that deadline. I really hope she likes her gifts. It's a secret santa type of thing so hopefully she won't know who sent her gifts until December 23rd. It's so much fun to see what everybody gets! Now I just need to work on decorating my house for Christmas and Christmas gifts for my family and some friends. I can't believe it's almost December and Christmas is only 4 weeks away. I'll also be working on dropping some weight in the next 4 weeks. I need to at least get back to where I started this challenge!
Have a great week!
Joann

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It was so good to have my two college-age children back home again.

Back in the 140s - just barely. The big news is that I ran a 10k for the first time, and finished in 1:01:02. I am pleased with my effort, though my quads hurt from all those hills!

Still making progress. But, I'm hungry most of the time, especially at night before bedtime. I still need to add exercise other than what I get walking my dog.

Had a good Thanksgiving and watched what I ate. Lots of goodies on the table to snack on, both healthy and not healthy. I tried to stick mainly to the veggies and fruit.

I cut for 10 baby blankets/receiving blankets which helped me with the snacking. Took awhile to press and cut each set. After 2 or 3 sets I would go in and grab a some veggies or fruits then back to cutting.

I also finished some stitching on a baby quilt I'm fixing for a friend. It was partly put together so she asked if I could finish it for her. I had to tear it apart and start from scratch. Just need to put the rows together. That also helped me from going in and grabbing lots of food.

I guess tomorrow's weigh in will let me know how well I did.

It's Friday, the day after Thanksgiving....how did everybody do? I'm so very thankful that somehow I found the willpower to follow my Thanksgiving survival plan. Yes, I did half portions and my plate looked like I had made it for a child. But I felt satisfied and for the first Thanksgiving in a long time, I did not feel like the overstuffed turkey from eating too much. I know that overstuffed miserable feeling from overeating at holiday meals. So, now I have the other memory of eating light and I'm okay with it and actually feel physically good today.

Now it's time to move on into the next big challenge for me. "CHRISTMAS COOKIES"....my family has always baked tons of Christmas cookies...its just something we always do. Don't know yet what I'm going to do this year. I'm thinking about baking Zero cookies...None....or maybe just baking a few. But, the problem is the same, I end up eating way too many cookies and typically gain 10 pounds over Christmas. If anybody has any ideas on how to deal with the Christmas cookies problem I'd love to hear from you.

My daughter is doing the Thanksgiving dinner this year. She decided to have turkey breasts with the other items normal for Thanksgiving. The snacks this year are veggies, lots and lots of them. There may be a few fruits along with it, haven't checked what she has yet. Mainly a healthy Thanksgiving this year, she has celiac disease so has to watch what goes into the foods.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I'm looking forward to the celebration but also worried about going overboard with all the yummy food. My plan is to take only half the usual portions so I don't overdo and undo all the progress I've made so far. I'm so thankful for this challenge and all the support. This challenge was just what I needed to get me going and I'm looking forward to next weeks to see how we all do. I'm already thinking forward and past Christmas to what the next challenge will be.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! emoticon emoticon ENJOY!!

DH and I are headed up to my mom's shortly and will also have a chance to visit with his mom, as well as his DB, SIL and nephew who have come up from Ohio during their Thanksgiving break. There might be a combination Thanksgiving/Christmas turkey in my near future too!

Have a great day everyone and enjoy your holiday! emoticon

Staying home and trying to stick with tons of veggies to celebrate the season. I'll probably get a frozen dinner (some of them are delicious!) for portion control and make the sweets for the kids. Friday is Mexican food with the grandkids, I think I'll take a fruit salad to try and balance it out. okay that is the plan, trying very hard to not make it a pity party and go hog wild like i usually do........ emoticon

Only one in my office, at least for now, and I have a dentist appt later this morning. Hope to get a lot accomplished before the two-day Thanksgiving break. Things don't seem to slow down at all over the weekend and into December.
I wish all of us luck and perseverance through the end of this challenge and the calendar year!

EVERYONE HAVE A NICE THANKSGIVING TOMORROW!

I will be making a Turkey Breast for one! Stuffing, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes too! I picked up a rye bread for turkey sandwiches. Oh yes, and a small pumpkin pie!

When the weekend comes I will be getting my plan going! The kitchen is all set up for everything I need to be good and Sunday night all the stuff not on my plan will be in the garbage can ready for Mondays pickup!!

That is the plan because I am very emoticon and feeling it emoticon emoticon

Happy Tuesday everyone! The weather has turned here and now there is definitely a chill in the air and we've had our first frost! Most of the leaves are off the trees now and I'm afraid winter will be here before we know it! No Thanksgiving cooking for us, we're heading to John's niece's house and taking my Mom with us as the rest of my family is heading to Orlando.

Lin - you really did great! Hooray for veggies indeed!

Sue - you are so close to the 170's - well done!

Kathleen - I know you'll get back on track after the holiday eating. Glad your trike is working again and I'm sure Copper is too!

Nancy - I am struggling with the same issues!

Marilyn - great progress!

3_Veggies - welcome to the challenge!

Chris - now that that's over, maybe you'll have time to focus. It's tough when time is a challenge.

Sherry - congrats on your progress this challenge.

Della - I hope your swim class is going well!

Joann - I hope you are feeling better!

I hope everyone is having a great week!

emoticon Kathleen. I haven't been posting on here too much the past couple of weeks and just noticed yesterday that you're back home. Good timing - getting out of the northeast and back to the warmer south as the weather begins to turn much colder! emoticon

Sherry - I hope that you sorted out the 5% challenge. I rarely post much on the main challenge thread and just concentrate on getting my exercise and LTGL results posted on my team thread as that's where the points are going to count! Like Kathleen, I'm on the Awesome A team and have enjoyed being an "A"! I've already signed up for the winter challenge and requested the A's again.I didn't reach my goal this challenge or in the summer but I was successful losing my 5% in the spring. Actually reaching the goal isn't as important as developing (if necessary) better habits and working towards the goal.

I didn't post my weight last week - just didn't get to it but I am going to update my template and get it posted here in a minute or two. I had another pound gone this morning - too bad it didn't disappear a couple of days earlier so that I could include in in my 5% loss! emoticon Just glad it's gone and now I'm one pound from making it to the next "10s" group. Staying there over Christmas and New Years of course is going to be a challenge (Thanksgiving is long gone up here) but I'll try.

Congrats to those who have had losses over the past couple of weeks! For those who haven't had the results show up on the scale yet - emoticon

Forgot to weigh on Sunday last week - weighed on Tuesday, but then forgot to post. I've been eating too much "comfort foods" and "junk" - cookies, etc. lately. I seem to be completely derailed, in large part due to my state of mind lately. Hope to get it all under control before too much more time passes!

Was away from home all of last week taking care of my 4-year old Granddaughter while her Mother had a business trip. Took along my own healthy food and pretty much stuck to my plan. So was glad to see this morning I am still making progress. Thinking ahead to Thanksgiving day and how I'm going to cut back on portion size because as you know that dinner plate can really get filled up fast with all the yummy food,,,and then there are the desserts!! Oh well, we all just have to do our best. Early Happy Thanksgiving to all and stay healthy!

Didn't do as well these last 2 weeks. Missed last weeks weigh in because I was running around helping with the scouting for food drive with the boy scouts. Got lots of food for the Food Bank I volunteer for.

Kathleen, if I had a fitbit I'd join you as a friend. I have a misfit instead.

Wow Sherry you are right! You are now on my fitbit friend list! SWEET! I will include you in the challenges! Anybody else want to join me in Fitbit?

Well I rode my trike down to the shop with no gears--lol---and it is now fixed!! emoticon
This morning I will take Copper emoticon for her first ride in 6 months! She was not happy yesterday when she saw me ride off without her!

Sherry I had trouble getting it all together with the 5% challenge too but it gets easier! I am on the Awesome A team and going to do the break challenge to get used to it again--no real rules there!

Scale is up this morning as I made myself waffles yesterday and they are not on my eating plan at all! I know weight fluctuates daily and I should get out of the daily scale visit! I will work on it!

Everyone have a great weekend! emoticon Kathleen

Kathleen -- I think you figured it out -- I got your friend request and have accepted it. Check your friends list on FitBit.

Tonight is gray and while not really cold yet, the wind is gusting to 40+miles an hour. I'm not looking forward to going to a football game tomorrow afternoon because the temperature is supposed to reach a high of maybe 43 degrees F.

I have mixed feelings about the 5% challenge, having done it once - ending now. The idea is very good and based on positive attitudes and cooperation.

However, it was difficult for me, especially early on, to find the threads and forums where each individual part was located. With a general forum and one for the rookie team I was on being completely separate, it took extra time each time I needed to post something to find them. And the posting deadlines are completely different from here and anything else I do, so that was kind of unsettling as well.

Regardless, I did manage a tiny bit of loss over that time, so the end result for me was good.

Time to finish this work week in a positive manner, including not letting my sniffles/sneezes/dry throat get any worse.

Sherry

thank you for the welcome back! emoticon

I came back to my trike having a flat tire on the rear wheel~~the hardest one to take off--my neighbor helped and I took the tire to the shop to be fixed. Then yesterday I worked very hard to get it back on and failed~ even my neighbor couldn't do it! So we put it back together so it is ride able but without gears working. I will be riding it down to the shop and hopefully they can get it back together again! Copper emoticon and I really miss our trail rides!

I came back to a very swampy green pool and with 2 weeks of work it is finally looking a lot better. still not done yet and is cloudy but it is surely a much better color!

I am working hard to get my old routines down but it has not been easy and a conscience effort is needed! Setting up my kitchen for ease and to remember all the things I can do to be healthy too! Freezer and fridge are loaded with good stuff and still having cravings for the not so good stuff........ emoticon

Feeling frustrated and determined if that is possible~~lol!

Sherry--still trying to figure out how to add you to my friend list in Fitbit--it may take a bit! emoticon I will be searching youtube!

Signed up for the 5% winter challenge too and it starts in January! I didn't get it done for 2016 so plan is set again for 2017!

Have a great day everyone emoticon Kathleen
