Thank you Delmarchia. My brother is doing much better. Mom kept him indoors all weekend. He is walking steadier now.

Ok everyone, Either my thyroid levels whacked out or I am doing something terribly wrong. I actually gained weight this week. New week.... hopefully new numbers

Lynnrob,
No thanks, you can keep it! That's one of the reasons I decided to stay out here in San Diego. I had my fill of humid weather growing up in Chicago.

Had an idea, why don't you have your company go for a walk with you after dinner?

Just a thought! On my way out the door now, will be back on line later to catch up.

It i amazing how you can sneak in exercise when you put your mind to it.

Sounds like you had a great time in Portland! I've been there once to visit my niece.

Not to much happening here, trying to finish catching up with emails and paperwork. Going to take a break and have a little snack then get out for a good long walk. The sun is finally out but there is a nice breeze. Not humid so far.

I can't believe one week of summer vacation is over already! Guess I better get busy and get some of my to do list done before I have to get back to work!

Have a wonderful day.

I took the opportunity while in Portland visiting my son to walk everywhere possible.... It worked too. I logged in over 12K every day for a week... On some days I walked over 25K. Who knew sneaking in exercise could be so easy and rewarding!

May challenge now is to walk more at home. To keep the momentum going, I hope to get at least 12,000 daily steps and add one more each day no matter what my ending total was the day before. Never go backwards! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You've got three choices in life. Give up, give in, or give it your all.

53 pounds down and approaching goal! WooHoo!

Just be careful!! Even in the shade the humidity levels in the south can cause overheating and dehydration. I was at the ER until 2am with my brother due to severe dehydration. Scared the @#$% out of Mom and me. Thank God for a kind stranger that saw him stagger and fall and made him come inside and sit, gave him lots of water, and called mom.

Just getting my day started. Thought I'd try to catch up with everyone before I wake my grandson up. I'll fix breakfast while he showers than we can get out the door and head out to the mall for the day. Going to Borders Liquidation sale, how sad! Then to the movies. He wants Chinese food for lunch, then we will stop at the grocery store to pick up a few things. I figure might as well, I will have him with me to help carry things.

I'll get my long walk in tonight after the sun goes down, it is supposed to be hot and humid today. I hate when it get humid, reminds of the Midwest which I moved away from.

Have a great day all.

Ended up doing a 45 minute power walk last night, plus walking back and forth to the car to pick up the dinner and get to the concert venue. The concert was great, good on late 50's and early 60's music. The music was good, the weather was perfect. Planning on going again.

Today trying to get things done around the house. My grandson is coming over later this afternoon. I will do my walk when he gets here, then to the grocery store, he can carry the groceries for me, and then stop to get a quick bite to eat. Tomorrow we are going to Borders to see if there is anything left at their liquidation sale and to the movies.

I'll probably walk tomorrow night after he goes home and I have dinner. Then back to the gym on Saturday.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I'm keeping track of the minutes I'm walking. It just works out easier for me. Some of the parks or trails here have the milage listed which makes it easier. I figure if I add a few minutes each week and try to walk a little faster each week that should be good.

Getting ready for a one hour walk tonight.

See you all tomorrow. I will let you know how I do.

I admire those of you who are walking 4 and 5 miles a day. Where do you get the time to do it? Especially if you are working full time?

I'm at least walking everyday, at least 30 minutes - an hour. I do have a pedometer but I don't think it is very accurate. Not sure I want to spend the money to buy a new one either.

Keep taking one step at a time.

See if this will help- I'm guessing you did not set up tracking steps so go to the following to set up: 1) My Fitness 2) Change Fitness Goals at the top of page 3) Add Track Steps - You can also add or change any other items at this point. I hope this helps Delmarchia. It does get confusing at first, just play around and you will find all kinds of stuff in the tabs to help!

Thanks for the encouragement, I have been walking 4 miles for six days a week. I don't know exactly how many steps that is since I don't have a pedometer. My goal is to start walking 5 miles per day startiing August 1st. I am taking it one step at a time. Count me in for the challenge. Don't know where to register the steps, I am new at this and I still have trouble getting around the site. Will keep trying.

We went to one of the state parks we enjoy because the weather was absolutely gorgeous this morning- breezy and 77- for a while. We started walking along the 2 mile trail and my husband and I decided we wanted to fish. He went back to the house to get the gear while I stayed to walk. I was able to get around twice before he returned, and then I guess I got another mile going back and forth from car to fishing spot. I managed a total of 6.37 miles today. I am tired but feeling very proud of myself!!!!

emoticon I have not hit the 10,000 but I do everything I can to get short power walks in at work. Weekends tend to derail my steps though. My husband is unable to walk much due to 2 knee replacements and 1 redo in the last 6 years. We generally ride in the car for pleasure now, or sit at home.

Thanks Skeeter. It is getting a lot easier. Dawnny that sounds fun, but alas I do not own a wii of any kind. Maybe one day, but I enjoy the treadmill and my ipod, or the elliptical at work.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to bring up a Nintendo Wii game called "Walk it Out" -- it's affordable (around $20-$25) and so much fun.

You in essence walk in place while "clicking" things with the remote control on your virtual island. It's so much fun and you walk so much longer than you normally would. I never thought I could walk an hour but I did...almost every day for a few months.

So if you have a Wii, I would strongly recommend it. (sorry if someone already brought this game up, I did try to look first).

Have a great day!

Hi MAMABECKTN, I quit eating salt 41 years ago when I was Pregnant with my first child because I swelled up badly . So now I eat what the food has in it. I don't swell anymore so I guess thats the good thing. You keep up the good work. emoticon

Thanks everyone. I don't know about anyone else, but I really have to push myself lately to work out. I am soooooooo tired most of the time, and when I get home I am busy compiling paperwork for my hubby to file for disability. I feel like I have two jobs lately. I really am watching my salt intake. Dr. has it down to 1800 per day. I am finding out that the only way to stay below that number is to eat really fresh and no salt. It works in my favor though as far as what I eat, and I believe that has been the biggest contribution to the weight loss. 1800 is a hard number to stay below. You should try tracking it for one or two days. You would be surprised how much we take in on one day. It's not the cure all but it certainly helps.
