Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

It has been interesting watching the dance of the weight trends in response to the dietary and supplement tweaks advised by the nutritionist in early March and early June.

With the changes in March came a rising tide. The mean quarterly trend caught the mean annual trend on 04/13/19:

Both the mean quarterly trend and mean annual trend peaked in May. The ebb in tide is underway and I am watching a return to low tide.

Today, the mean quarterly trend again caught the mean annual trend on the way back down.

Hi Elona,

We do not make adjustments for different time zones. So, no need to place a time zone in the signature thread. Those of us that have time zones in our signature threads liklely were/are participants in other challenges that do use time zones. We do not.

Postings are based on Eastern time. It is up to each challenger to make the needed adjustments to ensure their posts fall between the 12:01 am Wednesday and 11:59 pm Tuesday Eastern time week.

We have many challengers residing outside the Eastern time zone. So, whatever that Eastern time zone translation is for you is what matters. The May Day login sheet does not post times for the Eastern time zone. It posts times for Pacific time zone because that is the time zone in which BAPEARMAN and I reside. So, 20:59 each Tuesday is what marks the cutoff for official weigh ins each week on the login sheet.

It is not necessary to post to the challenge thread at all. Our posts to the challenge thread are unofficial back ups incase the official weigh in sheet forms.gle/p1ri4Rs49aXq5zUo8 has a glitch. And, we can share our maintenance experience via the challenge thread. Most challengers do not post to the challenge thread at all, they simply log an official weight using the sheet linked above.

Just make sure there's at least one post each week using the official weigh in sheet and that the Eastern time zone is used to mark each challenge week.

Daily weights ranged from 163.0 to 165.0. A frustrating week of nagging pains making me sit an extra day and cut back running on Saturday; then an unexpectedly good 5K race on Sunday. Go figure. Added back a few calories per day in anticipation of being able to run more consistently; I can always cut the calories back down.

Hi Jeanne!

I hope you are doing well! emoticon

Thanks for helping me post my weekly weight! You are so prompt, it's awesome!

Question: I believe I need to add my time zone in my signature. Philippine time is 12 hours ahead of Florida time, BUT not all time zones in the US or abroad. Filippino time does not have Daylight Savings Time either. I am able to post "Greenwich Time" plus the additional hours we are ahead OR Philippine Time and the additional hours we are ahead. Please let me know which method is best for you. The choice is yours. Then I can add it to my signature area so your team calculation is correct.

FYI: It is Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 16:36 ( or 4:36 PM) as I type this post. If you look at my Weigh-in post in this thread below, you will see SparkPeoples time zone and not Philippine Time.

Am I able to post my weight in this thread PLUS in the MAY DAY weekly weight site or only in the MAY DAY site? I know how confusing time zones can be. I definitely want to post my Weekly Weigh-in correctly.

Thanks so much again!

Elona,

Did the 133 occur on Monday, June 17th?

If so, it is a weigh in that occurred during week 7. If you would like it to be your official weigh in for the week, you may log it using the link: forms.gle/p1ri4Rs49aXq5zUo8

The last weight recorded on the login sheet prior to the 11:59 pm Eastern time deadline each Tuesday night becomes the official weight for the week.

Some challengers log using the login sheet more than once during the week.

Some of us post our weight to the thread every day; but, log using the link just once each week.

I use Sunday as my official weigh in day and whatever the weight is on that day is logged using the link. Some will record whatever their lowest weight is for the week. Some record their highest weight for week. The choice is yours as long as at least one weigh in is officially recorded each week using the login link.

Hope this post makes sense.

The clinical nutritionist that has guided my efforts is a Technical Health Writer and Senior Wellness Specialist for a supplement company. I'll Spark Mail you privately because I do not want to violate any Spark People posting guidelines.

Anyway, I experienced a non-traumatic pelvic fracture. To this day we do not know with certainty what caused it … able to walk when I got up … ran before work … unable to walk by the end of the day and did not know why … 3 months later the pelvic fracture diagnosis came … and they FREAKED out! Wanted me confined to bed for 3 months. I refused. I'd already been back on my feet for 2.5 months after a couple of weeks on crutches. I promised to limit time on my feet to only what was necessary.

It was a struggle to recover. I read a book: Mastering Leptin. Learned I had an underlying inflammatory issue. Learned the authors of the book had a supplement company. Eventually connected with the clinical nutritionist working for that company when the others that had been working with me dubbed me as a "complex case."

It has been quite a journey!

Here's a 6-month graph of daily scale weights:

The two areas circled in red coincide with nutritional tweaks advised by the clinical nutritionist to address the HPA axis dysregulation and the March gynecological diagnosis.

I've been at this long enough now that I recognize uncharacteristic weight pops. When the second occurred, I was advised to back off on the second tweak. In early June, another tweak was made, one that I expected would prompt another uncharacteristic weight pop. It has not.

Ironic, given that it involved increased salt intake and I have a salt sensitive body. But, the addition of sole, a saturated salt water solution, has not resulted in any upward weight spikes. I knew that the type of salt consumed mattered for me. We do not use table salt in any meal preparation at home. If salt is used, it is Mediterranean Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt.

For the adrenal cortex to function properly, it needs salt. I grew up in a household with no salt shakers on the table and very little, if any, table salt used in meal preparation. Both parents were hypertensive and had been advised to limit their salt intake.

A recent cortisol test indicates that my adrenal cortex is at least operational. It may be dysfunctional; but, is isn't dead. So, the clinical nutritionist and I are thrilled.

I never would have thought that watching weight trends would be such a useful health maintenance tool.

Glad you decided to jump into the challenge, Miami!
Today's actual 116.4
Trending 117.34

This is the first time in in several months that I've seen 2 consecutive 116 weights in a row, so I think replacing amaranth with quinoa is a factor. I also haven't been eating avocados or my cellulose bread daily for a while, so for the last 2 weeks I've been incorporating them into a couple of dinners a week. There are too many variables to be sure of the impact of each one, but things are heading in the right direction (both digestion and scale-wise) so I'll take it!

MAY DAY MAINTENANCE CHALLENGE

Greetings and salutations! emoticon

My Goal Weight is 130
My actual scale weight is 134 lbs.

Week 7 : SUNDAY 06/16/2019 - Tue 06/18/2019 = 134 lbs
Week 8 : Wed 06/19/2019 - Tue 06/25/2019
Week 9 : Wed 06/26/2019 - Tue 07/02/2019

Granted I will need to revise my post to display my parameters correctly. This is pending.

I have a tendency to either eat too much or not enough. Two and a half months ago I was ill and anemic and mildly malnourished. My weight was 125 lb. I would like to be 125 lbs, but certainly not the result of malnutrition. Lol. 125 lbs is my long term goal. I recovered from being ill and was thrilled to be healthy again. Unfortunately, I swung the other way. I began eating larger portions and dreaded word! Should I say it? SWEETS! I do love my ice cream! It is my weakness. It seems I am like Samson in the Bible. Cut off my ice cream and I am vulnerable and weak. LOL. I moved to the Philippines 4 days ago, so it's the perfect time for me to turn a new leaf. I am eating healthy balanced meals in proper proportions according to my meal plan, the Mediterranean to be precise.(sans wine).

Once again, thank you! This place is the "bomb"! emoticon

Hope all of you are having a good Saturday.

Wanted to let y'all know that MIAMIRN will be joining us as an unofficial challenger for the last few weeks of the May Day Maintenance Challenge. She is a new member of our team, having recently attained her goal weight.

This will be an opportunity for her to acquaint herself with the maintenance challenges before we start the next challenge on July 3.

Please join me in welcoming MIAMIRN to both our team and as an unofficial May Day Challenger.

On Tuesday I started eating (pressure-cooked) quinoa in my breakfast instead of amaranth, and my digestive system is indeed loosening up a bit.

My weight has been creeping up since mid-March, when I started working on getting more calcium from food (hence eating amaranth daily) and taking the bone med. And, I had started taking Align probiotic back in Feb. when diagnosed with Mono. I believe the Align (discontinued a month-ish? ago) was what started the constipation, and the amaranth on top of that was a double whammy. It could also be just the Align, and that it's taking my gut a while to "recover. "

So, I'll continue with the quinoa for a while, and may try reintroducing amaranth or teff (another tiny high-calcium seed) on a very limited basis later on. I was able to eat oats 1x/week without issues, so the same may be true for amaranth. Amaranth is also tricky to cook; now that I'm getting better with the pressure cooker, I'll pressure-cook the amaranth or teff if I decide to try it again.

Even without the calcium boost from the amaranth, I've been getting 1000+ mg calcium from food on the week/work/days, which makes me VERY happy. Not so much on the weekends, when my food plan is more lax.

For each of the past 2 weeks I've had 3 consecutive days above trend followed by 4 consecutive days below. The overall trend is creeping very slowly down as well. Today is day 1 below trend; I hope for 5-day streak this time!
