Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

Center Weight 163
Range +/- 3% = 158.1 - 167.9

Week 1 : Wed 02/27/2019 - Tue 03/05/2019 163.5
Week 2 : Wed 03/06/2019 - Tue 03/12/2019 163.3
Week 3 : Wed 03/13/2019 - Tue 03/19/2019 163.6
Week 4 : Wed 03/20/2019 - Tue 03/26/2019 163.1
Week 5 : Wed 03/27/2019 - Tue 04/02/2019 162.9
Week 6 : Wed 04/03/2019 - Tue 04/09/2019 164.3
Week 7 : Wed 04/10/2019 - Tue 04/16/2019 164.0*
Week 8 : Wed 04/17/2019 - Tue 04/23/2019 162.6
Week 9 : Wed 04/24/2019 - Tue 04/30/2019 163.1

Daily weights ranged from 162.8 to 164.0. That's 6 days in a very tight range, and 164 this morning. Hmm. Still too early to say I definitely need to trim calories, but a head-scratcher that I gained 1.2 pounds overnight when I'd been trending with very close weights day to day. No clue what was different about yesterday to make that happen.

Here's a graph of daily scale weights for the past 6 months. If the body remains in this range for the next 6 months, this will be the tightest weight fluctuations over the course of a year that I have seen since entering weight maintenance in June 2014.

Statistics associated with this graph are as follows:

114.2 lbs. minimum
116.6 lbs. average
120.2 lbs. maximum

In this graph the lower weight trend typically seen during fall/winter versus spring/summer is clearly evident.

I continue to work toward maintaining within a 6.0% range. To date, no success. The current 6-month trend is within 6.0%. We shall see how this summer goes. Summer is when my body tends to go ballistic. Hopefully, this summer will be different.

For comparison's sake here is the year's graph of daily weights along with the Trend Analysis Chart from the Hacker's Diet Online.

Going to share some challenge stats as we approach our 11:59 pm Eastern time deadline this evening.

I weigh daily. What I am sharing below are actual scale weights.

115.8 minimum
117.8 average
120.2 maximum

I am especially pleased to see that the daily scale weights were between 116.8 and 118.6 over the month of April. This represents extremely tight weight fluctuations for me. I have not seen monthly weight fluctuations this tight since May 2018 which was the month preceding that rapid rise in weight over the summer which appears to have coincided with the crash of my adrenal glands. During the 59 months over which I have maintained, fluctuations less than 2 lbs. have occurred 5 times: once in 2015, three times in 2018 and now April 2019.

Part of the reason this tight fluctuation pleases me so much is there have been so many tweaks to my nutritional regime by the nutritionist since early March and the body appears to have settled down rapidly.

Will be quite curious to see what the body does over this next challenge. Despite the trend weight rate continuing to be higher than the nutritionist advised, there is no concern because we are seeing no evidence of inflammation and I am underweight; so, healthy weight gain is a good thing.

The nutritionist likes to see the rate of weight gain below 0.25 lbs. per month because anything greater than that is often a sign of underlying inflammation and/or increased fat stores. She and I would like to see increased bone mass (which we appear to be seeing) and increased lean muscle mass.

Pam (@PMEYHAUS),

I am going to preface my comments with this: You know your body best!

So, take what I have to share with a grain of salt. If it is helpful, great. If not, disregard it.

With more years of maintenance experience, I see clear seasonal trends in my weight fluctuations. There are clearly certain times of year where the weight fluctuates in the lower end of the range and certain times of year where the weight fluctuates in the upper end of the range. Because I am also addressing some health challenges that also impact weight, I have also experienced significant blips which have typically been to the upside. With the identification of food intolerances and their removal, I have seen the average weight fluctuations drop and settle into a new range. So, it has been quite a learning experience for me.

These maintenance challenges have played an instrumental role in helping me evaluate what maintenance looks like for me.

I look at your numbers and see a job well done. Again, you know what is going on in your life and what is best for you and your body.

Keep up the great work!

Gloria, That's interesting that they've recommended 6,000 mg of salt. I have read some articles indicating that we are salt phobic just like we are fat phobic. The point being that our bodies would be healthier with more salt unless one is salt sensitive. I appear to be one of those folks with salt sensitivity. I feel much better with salt levels around 1,500 mg per day which is much like that advised for folks with hypertension. Electrolyte levels are really important. It would be great if this change helps you.

Here's an interesting article that found participants consuming 6000mg salt per day were less like to die of heart disease.

The fact that my body does not tolerate salt is another indication of compromised health. Hope to see that situation improve..

Got some new meds to keep my BP up and was advised to eat 6,000+ mg salt per day....not sure how this is going to affect weight but I already have seen a gain since this started. Water weight I hope but if I continue to eat high sodium as directed, will that ever go away? Only time will tell. At rheumatologist today my weight was actually down a bit from last time I was there.

Trending 116.95
I'm thankfully seeing most weights below trend since stopping the align. I'm leaving tonight to visit a friend, so will have to be careful on my eating and may have to work to get my steps in. My next weighin will be Monday morning.

58 +- 1 kg /// 128 +-2 pounds
CET (Europe, Hungary)

Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

Today's actual 115.9
Trending 116.97
Even with Saturday's long walk, overall activity last week was slightly less than the week before. So I dont think that's responsible for this (welcome) downward trend. Looks to me like the Align was the culprit.

Daily weights ranged from 161.8 to 163.4. I unexpectedly came back from Boston lighter than when I left, but the weight seems to be coming back on now. Not to worry, I'm close to target weight right now. Just have to balance more food with more activity.

Gloria, I'm quite curious to see what the new docs find, when I begin working with them. Connective tissue 'stuff' is dogging me. I do have some joints that are quite mobile and very stretchy skin. I've never totally dislocated my joints. I've come close; but, have always been able to get them righted myself. The recent condition diagnosed is directly attacking the skin. The skin is so fragile that it is tearing apart with even gentle movement. It is quite painful. It's like my body is disintegrating. My pelvic floor is a mess. The non-traumatic pelvic fracture and this recent thing are likely connected, given what I've read. Injury can bring the condition recently diagnosed on. The pelvic fracture was an injury all right!

Poindextra, Interesting about the Align product being a possible factor. We've used that product in the past, I believe. Your experience leaves me curious about the ingredients. It also makes sense to me that the probiotics could mess with gut balance for awhile and it could take time to settle down. I continue to be amazed how delicate gut balance appears to be for me. Doesn't seem to take much to disrupt that balance for me. Still learning.

Hi Jeanne...yes to Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, they go hand and hand with EDS and Hypermobility Syndrome Disorder. A couple of years ago they changed the criteria for EDS, now it is HSD unless very specific criteria are met - both are pretty much the same symptoms and same problems with connective tissue disorder being the culprit and of course, connective tissue makes up pretty much the entire body. Staying active seems to be the key. It's genetic and now that we know what we know it seems logical and reasonable that my mother's immobility (she is completely wheelchair bound now) is due to this. From what I see, it is can be so debilitating and painful so people pretty much go to bed but then they lose all mobility and that is what I want to avoid at all costs.

Gloria, I hear you regarding the fear of introducing something that could lead to, yet another, bad reaction. It is challenging.

So, I am understanding …

MCAS = Mast Cell Activation Syndrome?

POTS = Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome?

I am familiar with Ehlers-Danlos.

Gloria
