Will there ever be a day that some challenge doesn't crop up to chase your goal under the rug or some food that will show up at your home to challenge your resolve?

My daughter stopped by and brought my DH the cookies that came with her box lunch at a seminar she is attending this week...White Chocolate Chip Macadamia ...and White Chocolate Chip Chocolate cookies...OMG...for a split second...just like a whisper crossing my face, I picked them up, I looked at them, remembered former binge "happiness", and walked away...

Yes... I put down the package without comment or emotion...(knowing there will be other opportunities to have those treats at a future time)... I think the whisper seemed to be the food demon but he had no real power or strength in his voice. The stronger my resolve, the better I feel. I believe that not using food for comfort this week has actually strengthened me for this tiny battle!

I am sorry my sister died, but I am thankful to have learned a valuable lesson about dealing with emotion and stress. Food was not the answer or the soother. Every day that passes, the newness of my ache is lessened just a wee bit. The world will go on... today is hump day and my DH and I will go and run/walk a trail up in Newport. I foresee another challenge this weekend when we have our annual family picnic/potluck... it will be ... fun...

I understand what you are going through, I lost my husband when I was 34. We did something that was a family tradition, we celebrate his life with a party. So remember the good times and all the happiness that she brought into the world. Cancer is something no one can control, just remember the fight and vivid person was.

so very sorry for the loss of your sister. i also lost my brother early he was 30 he had a real love of life, but unfortunately he liked to party to much and that is what did him in. i did not turn to food or god for that matter i just thought of what he would want to do if he was still alive so i kind of celebrated him by taking really good care of me. when i went to the gym i said joey that is for you, or went on a long bike ride or walk. i knew he was sorry he wasted his life because the day after his passing a robin kept flying into our picture window over and over and over and i said there is joey banging his head up against the wall never doing the right thing.so i make sure i do the right thing for me now and dedicate it to him and that does not involve eating or drinking to excess his two favorite past times.i hope this helps.

This week I lost my little sister to cancer. She was only 57 and had so much verve and tenacity, I am more than a little surprised that the OC disease was able to take her down!

Sometimes loss in our lives is a parent or sibling, but other times it is not the loss of life, but perhaps a favorite "something" special to you. How do you handle that situation? Does food become the new focus?
