Hmmm...looks like this might just be a conversation with myself, but posting keeps me accountable to the goals so here I go with a mid-month check-in:

1 - Temptation avoidance. Not bad at all. Other than a slip up going to the store the other day I have managed to make sure that I don't go shopping hungry and it's making it much easier to avoid all the halloween candy :-) Surprisingly enough just being aware of the extra temptation also seems to be helping a bit because when I did go to the store hungry it wasn't that hard to ignore all the sweets.

2 - Getting back into running. This one isn't going too well so far :-/ Mostly it's just a scheduling issue so I think that, starting next week, I will bring my jogging gear to work so that I can go running at lunch...this may be the only way to make sure I get the run time in because free time this month is at a premium.

3 - Motivation. I finally decided that I am going to challenge myself to lose at least 20 lbs by the end of this year. It's doable but it's also stringent enough to keep me on target through the holidays...and I think I need a bit more structure to get myself motivated before the year ends.

Now that September's run off with my sanity what does everyone think of some October challenges?

Food: Temptation avoidance! I think my biggest challenge this month is going to be *not* going shopping while hungry. Because if I'm hungry when I walk in the store that big pile of halloween candy is going to get me! Also, I will try to avoid the candy aisles altogether and pick the register with the magazine display instead of the candy shelves...

Exercise: Getting back into something? I think most of us have something we used to do but that we don't/can't do any more. For me it's running - I still go jogging occasionally but I miss the way I used to burn the calories when I was running more regularly so I think I'll try to start jogging more routinely. Plus, added bonus - the running will be good if we end up with a zombie apocalypse this Halloween :-D

Motivation: hmmm...I liked the beach last month but that was rather a long term motivator. With the holidays coming up I think I might need some more immediate spine-reinforcement when I'm tempted to munch at the candy displays or slack off running in the wet weather. Anyone have a good holiday motivation idea?
