The first half of my September went very well - the last half, moderately well :-) Work got a bit crazy and although I managed to keep up on doing my goals I totally fell off the wagon on tracking them on here :-/

The dancing thing worked well but I did end up switching it out for some intensive yard work for the end of the month. Talk about a core workout! Pulling all those weeds worked wonders and I'm definitely feeling the effects in my abs.

I didn't do nearly as well on my potassium as I'd like - or nearly as well on a lot of my vitamins, actually. I did find a miniature version of cantaloupe for the garden though - matures in about two months so definitely growing those next year to help out with the Potassium level :-)

The beach motivation definitely helped keep me on track. Of course, we had some pretty nice weather so going to the beach wasn't exactly a hardship...we'll see how well the thought of a bikini helps ward off the blues over the winter :-D

All in all, it was a pretty good month! Anyone have any ideas for October?

September is over! How did your challenges go?

I definitely didn't do much dancing while cleaning, but as I said I did some strength training when it was quiet at work. My core feels stronger and looks a little flatter! I think my arms and legs are a bit stronger too.

As for iron, I'm sure I've gotten a bit more, as I have been eating more beef than I usually do. But I didn't track the difference, so it's a little inconclusive!

The motivation is still helping. Last night my mom and I had to go to the fabric store for a bit more fabric (she's making us a quilt as a belated wedding present) and I saw the PERFECT baby quilt fabrics - very light greens and browns with white, great for a boy or a girl. We snatched them up and are storing them until we have one! Keeping a future baby on the mind is definitely helping me to take care of myself.

Things are going pretty well here - got swamped by work a bit which made it harder to stick to a healthy food plan but I'm struggling along :-)

I have swapped out doing the dancing housework with setting up a garden - which, as it turns out was a good thing because the gardening is a good hybrid between strength and cardio.

Motivation hasn't been q problem since the weather has been beautiful so as I drive by the beach on the way to work I get lots of opportunities to think about that bikini :-)

I'm definitely eying that Wii for Christmas this year, too!

How is this week going, ladies?

I haven't been dancing when doing chores as much, but I've been sneaking in strength training when it's quiet at work! My core is happy :)

I haven't been tracking my iron :( but the grocery store has steak on sale so we've picked it up more often than usual! I don't eat a lot of beef so I'm sure this extra bit is helping.

And as for my motivation, it is definitely helping! I have a friend who is due in about 6 weeks and she looks fantastic! She and I were talking about it and she's been trying not to give in to her cravings. As she put it, labour is one of the hardest things our bodies will ever have to go through so why would we let ourselves get out of shape? I thought it was such a great way of looking at it!

Yay, glad to have another person joining us! Awesome too that I'm not the only person motivated by a future family! Good luck feeling better in that bikini.

Caeryn, I love Wii Fit! I kind of got into a rut where I wasn't doing it regularly but when I do it, I feel a lot healthier. There are some activities on it I don't care for and barely do, which I think can be the case for anyone, but there are some great ones on it! I really love Rhythm Boxing and Kung Fu, and I liked the yoga for learning the poses though I'd rather do a full routine now. If you know anyone who has it, find out if you can take a test drive!

Feel free to jump in whenever you want :o) Your goals sound great. I completely understand about the bikini...amazing how so little fabric can be so very intimidating :-/

Can you let me know how the Wii Fit is working for you? I've been thinking about getting one for our house since my fiancé and I both like the "game" style workout. I'd love to hear what you think about it :-)

I just saw the post or I would've jumped in sooner. I think this is a really good and doable challenge. Thanks for the opportunity. If its ok, I'd like to jump in even though the month has already started. Here are my goals.

Excericse:
My parents have a wii fit and I go over their house every couple days plus on weekends. Since my whole family and I love the games, my goal is to play for at least 30 min every day that I'm there and track it. If I can get on it, they usually will join rather than kick me off. Otherwise we all end up watching movies which I want to get away from.

Food:
My doctor said that I'm low on phosphoric acid which is important if I want to have kids. While I'm not planning on it right now, with the wedding 8 mos away, I figure it couldn't hurt to start taking it now.

Motivation:
This is tougher. I've never felt totally confident wearing a bikini and we are going to cancun for our honeymoon. So I think I will try to wear a bikini once a week, even if its just around the house as a reminder of my goal to wear one confidently on the honeymoon.

Only okay, unfortunately! I've been doing lots of chores and trying to dance and be active while doing them, but forget on occasion. Still need to vaccuum today and will definitely dance while doing it!

I haven't been eating very healthy though, and I know my iron is low. Thinking about staying fit for when we have a family has helped but I've still been giving in! My husband and I had Burger King last week and I swear I could see the grease seeping out into my hair the next morning. It was disgusting. So I tried to be healthier all weekend and am feeling a little more energetic!

I hope your bug is gone and you can get back on track! I've bene feeling blah lately too - the weather has been very grey so I think that's doing it!

So week 1 of September didn't go so great because I got some sort of a tummy bug that had me feeling blah and worn out all week. Oh well, better luck next week.

So how are you doing, MarisaJoy?

Absolutely! A family might be a ways off for us yet, but staying in shape because I know it's one day down the line is definitely important to me. I dragged my husband into Baby Gap on Friday and we had a great time looking at the adorable little outfits! :)

Awesome. And staying healthy for starting a family is a great motivation goal :-) It's mostly anecdotal, but it seems like friends that were fit prior to their pregnancy had a much easier time with the pregnancy itself and also with losing the baby weight after the birth. Not to mention, children come with a built in exercise plan so it's definitely a good idea to have a running head start :-D

These are great! I'm going to participate even though I'm married now. Dancing while doing chores is a fantastic idea, and I may even start tonight while my husband has the stereo on and the bathroom needs cleaning!

I've been falling short on iron lately, so I'll make it my goal to get more in my diet.

As for motivation, that's harder without a wedding to plan for! But I really do want to maintain my healthy weight. Eventually Josh and I want to have kids, so I want to be in great shape for it. I think I can handle looking at baby things every so often to remind me!

Hard to believe, but in just over a week it will be September 2010! Things have been kind of quiet around here of late so let's see if we can spark it up a bit next month:-)

What would you guys like to do in September? Here are some ideas I had…

Challenge Theme: Make the most of it!

**Category: Exercise

-Idea: SP has a bunch of different activities in their fitness tracker, including things that we don't normally think of as exercise. Find something on the list that you already do or would like to do and add it to your routine (i.e., gardening, cleaning, playing an instrument). Then, try to step up the intensity of the activity to get your heart rate up so you can count it as exercise!

-Example: I spend about 15 to 30 minutes doing housework each evening (oh laundry, how I loathe thee!) If I move a bit faster or dance to music while I'm cleaning I can include it as a cardio exercise each day :-)

**Category: Food

-Idea: Vitamins and minerals are extra important when you're under stress...wedding planning, anyone? What vitamins or minerals are you running low on? Pick one or two things that you tend to fall short on and look for ways to incorporate foods with those things in your daily meals.

-Example: I always fall short on potassium. But I love cantaloupe which has lots of potassium. So, in September, I resolve to eat more cantaloupe.

**Category: Motivation

-Idea: Motivation is easier to maintain when you have something tangible to remind you why you’re doing this. So what is it that motivates you? The thought of looking fabulous in your wedding dress? Wearing a bikini on your honeymoon? Having the stamina to dance the night away at your reception? Or something completely unrelated to the wedding? Whatever it is, try to find at least one thing that reminds you of why you’re doing this for every week in September.

-Example: We’re planning to honeymoon in Jamaica and I would like to be comfortable enough with my weight to wear a bikini at the beach. So, each week in September I am going to look for things that remind me of going to the beach. Weather permitting, I will actually go for a walk on the beach at least once per week :-)
