I only use paypal for buying. But if I were going to sell on ebay, I would use it for that too.

Update on this: I was looking at it because I am getting ready to start selling some crafts on etsy.com, and it really looks like it is about my only option. But I think it will be ok, I am just going to be very cautious in how I set it up, for instance, it won't be linked to any of my primary accounts, but rather to a small account set up just for that purpose. And I tend to watch my accounts very carefully, so I should be ok with it, I think. :)

If you're going to be a seller, and don't have much volume or aren't going to be selling over a period of time, paypal is a good way to go. Merchant accounts where you yourself can take credit cards are done on a percentage as well as a small fee per transaction, unless you have good volume in sales each month.

Usually Discover and AmX cost more than Visa or Master Card.

I own a small business and still only take cash or checks. It's a local business and I don't want to pay the credit card fees. It's illegal for a seller to give a discount for cash. Isn't that a shame? Our government supports the American way of credit!

Yeah, I saw that on Paypal. But it sounds like there are few problems with their system and security, which was my main concern!!

Here's the current fee list for PayPal https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?c
md=_display-fees-outside

For some reason I can't get Spark to allow me to put this all on one line. It keeps splitting the address at the ?. So paste the first half in, then the part after the ?. I've tried editing this a bunch of ways to make it work, but it just keeps posting split. Oh well.

Worst case scenario would be a 2-3% fee plus 30 cents. Which is comparable to fees charged for other money transfer methods, and a lot easier.

Most of my PayPal transactions were as a seller, as the only time I really buy much online is for Christmas gifts and homeschool supplies. It worked well for me. And their shopping cart worked fine as well. www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we

I have used it many many times for purchases, I was really more wondering about for selling. But it does sound like a good way to go, so I appreciate all the feedback!!

i have a paypal account and love it. I'm afraid to give out personal information and don't have to worry about it, plus when I order something i get it a lot quicker as the payment i received quicker.

Before I moved my account to the bank I'm at now, I had a small checking her (we're talking an average of $25 balance). I connected the paypal to that account, as there wasn't much money for anyone to walk away with, if they managed to hack the account. the credit card idea sounds better, tho.

I have a paypal account that i use for ebay purchases. I like the fact that I can pay the seller without having to share my banking information. I also have my account set up to send email alerts for any paypal transactions completed through my account.

One word of warning with Paypal. DON'T connect it to your bank current account in any way, shape or form. I have mine connected with a credit card.

In 2006, someone stole my Paypal details, no idea how, & 500 disappeared from my bank account. I did eventually get it back but it was all a lot of hassle. At least if it's a credit card, the CC company is liable & you have some protection.

I still use Paypal, though, but I do advise a little caution.

Just love it! I used it extensively when I sold on eBay. The buyer pays nothing to use it. The seller is charged a fee. (I haven't sold on eBay for the 5 years I've been here at mom's so I'm sure what the current rate is.)

I have never had any trouble with it, if you're a seller you can even set up a shopping cart system with it on your website. (The necessary codes are available on their website, and it's free!) I set up an online store for a friend using it, worked fine once I quit using logos that weren't security coded for the sales payment page (didn't need a picture on the checkout page anyway, so it didn't hurt to take it off. The rest of the photos on the catalog pages were fine.)

I prefer to use PayPal instead of credit cards online, don't like giving out credit card numbers to strange companies.

I will say my son set up a PayPal account, and had tons of trouble with it. Have no clue why. But I've done over a thousand transactions with it, with no trouble at all.

PayPal charges a small percentage to receive payments. The amount charges differs depending on the type of account you have with them, but is generally 1.5 - 3%.

I think they get their money from sellers. I don't know for sure, do check their policies. I use it to pay lots of things. It is a secure way to handle payments to a from people you don't know.

I know that we have some PayPal users on here. What are the pros and cons of PayPal? And how do they make their money, do they charge if you are on the recieving end of the PayPal payment?

I am wondering because we are set up to pay people that way, but not to take payments through PayPal. I was thinking about setting up an account if I might start selling through etsy.com.
