Congrats, Tracey, for signing up! I'm planning to do the City of Oaks as well. Glad to hear you're taking a couple of rest days after so much walking. I recently started wearing a pedometer, so I can appreciate what it takes to hit 17K.

Let us know how the shoe buying experience at Try Sports is.

Demikit, we hope you can join us for some races soon! That would be great! Hope things are looking better on your end soon!

I appreciate you posting these, I would like to start joining you for them soon. We will have to see how the money goes, though... right now hubby's work has completely dried up and so we are on a pretty tight budget. But hopefully soon... :)

Great, Tracey! It WOULD be great to meet up beforehand. Let's work on it!

BTW, the 5K I did last weekend, I finished with a chip time of 49:28. Amen to being out there and perhaps being the Spark for someone else! :)

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try to work my schedule to do this. I like the idea of what you did to set a baseline & then measure all future against that baseline.

I'll let you know once I sign up & maybe we can meet before the start

You can walk the whole thing if you want to! Seriously, I did a run/walk combo in a 5K this past weekend, and it was all good. Depending on my progress by then, I may be able to run the whole thing, but if not, I'll be doing a run/walk combo again and not giving it a second thought.

Last Saturday's 5K race personal goal was to find out where I'm at now, so now I'll try to improve on my own time in the Run for the Roses. I like to think of it as a race against myself! :) It's a competition of one, as far as I'm concerned, as I try to improve my own fitness level and lose weight. I've run this race the past two years, and it's very run/walk friendly. Don't let a fear of finishing last worry you! It's a wonderful mini-goal, and would be a great benchmark for future efforts! The volunteers are very friendly, and the people who participate are at all ability levels.

You know this may be EXACTLY what I need to stay motivated.... mini goals.....

Question for you.... is this a TRUE run or could I walk/run.... given I have never run in a 5k before, I'm not sure I can run the whole thing but it would definitely give me something to work towards.

Can you please send me more info on this & I will see if I can talk myself into participating.

Thanks for sharing

I just signed up for my next 5K, the Run for the Roses in Raleigh on Feb. 7. I'm really excited! Anyone else interested?
