That's a great article. Thanks for sharing!!

I do a similar exercise to that one where I go to the stairs and face going up stairs and hang my heel off of the stair. Then I lower my heels (gently) to stretch my calves. I do this before and after runs and haven't had much issue with shin splints this time around. I also ice my ankles and shins right after runs and take Aleve.

RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. These will get you through bad shin pain.

this worked for me in two days to get rid of shin splints. Granted mine had just started, it still seems a miracle though.

Hey gals! Do any of you experience shin and ankle pain/stiffness during your run, but once you stop running the pain/stiffness disappears? I'm on Week 5 of my training and I was hoping I'd get used to jogging and it would go away. It's not, but at least I don't appear to have issues after my workout. I am stretching so maybe it helps. Just wondering how many weeks in did the pain go away for other folks. Thanks!

Mine just started up yesterday, end of week 2. I found some exercises online to get rid of them, I'll let you know how it works. They are supposed to get rid of shin splints in a week.

Thank you - that's reassuring! I did go running yesterday and it hasn't made anything worse. emoticon I guess it is just using muscles for the first time!
Will look up some stretches and hope it disappears soon. Thank you!

I got a lot of shin pain when I first started. There is at least one video here on SP showing you how to stretch for shin splints, and I googled some other stretches - did those and didn't push too hard and eventually my legs got stronger and the pain went away.

I just started week two yesterday (it went very well! emoticon ) but today I have pain in my shins. Is this likely to be a problem? Should I skip running tomorrow? Or is it just shin pain when running I need to worry about? My shins are fine while running. Any advice very welcome!
