I'm planning to spend some time working on my speed. I'm painfully slow.

Plus, I've got friends waiting to do a half with me next fall so I've got to keep this up and make some progress in the next year so I can be ready to train for that.

Amanda, you can sometimes find 15k races. Not sure where you are, but if you have a Hot Chocolate run in your area, they do 15k.

10k is approximately 6.2 miles, so you're almost halfway to the half marathon at that point. I don't know of anything between the half and the full. I do triathlons. If you like biking and swimming and you can run 5k, that might be worth a tri emoticon

Podrunner has a C25K program, an 8K program and a 10K program. I plan on doing the 8k as soon as I finish the 5K, and working up to the 10K. Beyond that, what are the next standard race lengths? I know we have a half-marathon here in October and a full marathon in April, but I didn't know what was between the 10K and the 13.1 mile half, if anything. ?

I'm heading into week 8, and already looking forward to moving on to longer runs. I kind of like the Galloway plan, but would be interested to know where you got your plan Amarillys.

I graduated from C25K last night and I plan on starting a 5K-to-10k program next week. It starts very slowly, right where C25K ended. It has you run three times a week: one short run, one tempo or fast run and one long run. For example, the first week is:
Day 1: 20 minutes run
Day 2: 10 minutes jog, 3 minutes tempo run, 10 minutes jog
Day 3: 30 minutes run

The last day of the last week will be a 60 minutes run.

I'm very excited about it!

Thanks for the advice, I think you are right--I need a new goal! I'm just not ready to start training for a 10K yet. Maybe I just need to pick some new trails and parks to explore.

Last night, even though the humidity was crazy-high, I actually challenged myself to run for 20 minutes straight. Came close--17 min, 1.8 miles. Would have kept going, but the poor dog looked like he was ready to drop. ;)

Unfortunately, I woke up with a big knot above my hip and pain in my lower back. Ice packs are a girl's second best friend.

I'm aiming for a 10K too. It definitely helps to have something bigger/faster/longer to aim for as a motivation.

I graduated to a 10K app. I like Jeff Galloway's lolo version. It's pretty strenuous, so I did repeat a week or so here and there. But I loved it.

Set a new goal like a 10k program!
The key for me has always been to have a goal. Whether it is time or distance or days per week it just seems to help

Maybe it's that the summer heat and humidity have kicked in for real, but since completing the 9-week C25K program and getting a couple of 5-Ks under my belt, I have not run for 30 minutes, or felt very motivated to try.

I have gone for short runs--10 minutes here, 12 minutes there, and called it a day. I've run with a friend and with another friend's dog. It's fun. But I just don't feel the same anticipation and satisfaction as when there was a Week X, Day Y to tackle and tick off the list.

Any suggestions? I don't want to let my achievements slip away, but I don't belong to a gym, and I really can't afford to sign up for another 5-K right now.
