Good Luck Christina with your 5K this weekend. Remember every step counts! It doesn't matter if it's from walking or running. emoticon By the way, I love horses!

Thanks Megan for your advice. My treadmill has an incline button but it doesn't have the option to adjust it to a certain height. I have read to walk down a hill and run back up to train for outdoors. I have a small hill at the side of my yard I'm thinking of using. I'll try and use that for 2 days a week. That will get me outdoors and my dogs will love it. emoticon

Just finished W6D1, and have been actually walking 2.5 mph, jogging 4.5 at .5 incline. Had tried it faster and was just too discouraging. 4.5 is a workout for me at this point. Am doing our first 5k this weekend, I know I will struggle and have to walk part of it, though this is the one I signed up for, and 4 other people signed up with me. One just had her gall bladder removed, so I think she is sitting it out! Me, my hubby, my brother and another friend are supposed to be there bright and early this Saturday. Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers, please. My legs and lungs are doing pretty fine, it is the running out side, the heat and going too fast that are the issues for me. Getting over heated is what slows me down, or getting off of pace. I wore a GPS and found out that part of the reason running outside was harder was because I was running at 5.5 or 6 mph, then tiring out, though while on the treadmill I was being paced by the treadmill, thus it was easier. I know that with conditioning horses we go slow for a long time over long distances, and speed is not added until 2 or more years later, if then. Slow is good, slow gives your joints and ligaments time to adjust. Your heart and lungs, and even muscles, strengthen much faster (just like a horses) though it is the bone, tendons, ligaments and joints that are the weak links, and they need years to strengthen. Go slow, it is better, speed can come later, like maybe after a year of 5k's or even two years, if you are looking for speed at all. emoticon emoticon

Darlene, one thing I was encouraged to do to help make the treadmill a little more comparable to outside (because I found outside more tiring as well) was to change the incline to 1.5. It worked for me! Keep up the awesome work!

Starting Monday I'll be on week 6, and I do my training on a TM at 4.4 to run and 3.5 to walk. Today I wanted to see how long it would take me to run a mile. I ran it in 11:58 at 5mph. emoticon Yesterday I tried running outside and found it to be totally different if not harder. So I'll build my endurance and confidence up using my TM and when this program is completed, I'll start training outdoors. We can do anything if we keep trying. emoticon

Too fast or too slow can only be determined by you. If it is too hard slow down if it is too easy you can speed up. But there is really not a too slow. Too slow is a perception others might have but anyone who makes a comment most likely doesnt run at all. So forget the notion of am i going too slow.

I've actually been doing the elliptical 30-40 min a day for the past month. So no, not walking. I'm going to slow down a little tonight tho, because i don't feel like i can keep up this same running pace the whole program. 4.8 mph... I think I'll try 4.2 tonight. Is that too slow?

I also did very similar. I did great, however, the very last jogging cycle I decided to walk it out. I am going to attempt W1D2 today :) Wish me luck.

Yeah I did that, it took me nearly 6 months to finish C25K! Most of the time I think it's just my mind telling me I can't do it and my body believes it. Just try pushing through til the end, I bet you'll be surprised how easily you manage it.

Have you been walking at least 30 mins prior to starting this for 30 days or so?
If yes then slow down the jog part
If no it might take a few times to get used to it
This is a journey not a race. The program is ok with slowing down or even repeating a few weeks. This is about getting to 5K, the time frame is up to your body and mind to figure out
Some days i struggle to run 5 mins and others i could run all day. Thats usually the mind saying yes or no.
