THEHEALTHMASTER - how did the 5K go on Saturday?

CDCSMITH2013 - I agree that anger and stress can make you go longer. I never thought about how it might affect things running right after I ate. But that might explain a lot. Yesterday I ran in the afternoon, and it went much, much better. Haha, thanks for the lightbulb moment. :-)

Oh, I know I go longer distances in a shorter time when I'm angry. ;) But yes, last night was a tough one for me to get through. Some of it is just because it is harder (week 8) and some of it was that I waited until later in the day, after I ate supper.

THEHEALTHMASTER good luck Saturday.

So do any of you ever find some days it seems easier to run than others? I really, really struggled tonight, but the last day I ran it seemed easier. And I've noticed that before.

I find that often times when I feel like I can't run any more I just need to slow down. I may end up jogging slower than I could walk but I'm still going through the motions! I think there is a balance of not pushing yourself so hard that you injur yourself but sometimes if you push through the discomfort it gets easier and you suddenly feel lighter!
Just keep moving!!
I'm running my first 5K this Saturday. I'm SUPER excited!!
Just registering for the event motivated me to work even harder.

Week 8 went okay for me, but like you, there were times I slipped into a walk. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks SFARRINGTON65. Your advice really helped. Last night when I ran, I didn't beat myself up for having to walk a bit too. And I can feel myself getting stronger, so it will come.

CDCSMITH2013 - how is your week 8 go? Good luck?

Thanks for the motivation everyone!

I start week 8 tomorrow, so I've been looking at the advice you've gotten already. Just in case I need it. I think if I struggle tomorrow, I'll probably try to do soemthing in between week 7 and 8 and just keep at that until I'm able to do week 8. Good luck.

Always remember that this is about you and no one else. This is also a process that takes time. You need to know what you are capable of and where you are at in your own fitness at this point. If you push for more than you are ready for you might end up injured. You will for sure end up disappointed. Take this 5K and enjoy it for what it is, an accomplishment. I promise you that even if you walk a part of it you will be in the majority of newer runners. It won't be any fun for you if you are frustrated with running the whole time worrying that you will have to walk part of it.

Some of the best times I have ever had was during walking parts of races for various reasons.
Rule 1 Relax
Rule 2 Have Fun
Rule 3 Go at your own pace
You will have a very good time and running wont feel as much of a burden

Thanks for the support and advice. I finished day 3 of week 8last nite, Still couldn't do the whole run without a few short breaks but I think it's getting better. And I have until the end of April for my first 'real' 5k, so it will give me time to build ny stamina. At least, that is what I'm hoping.

I went back to the previous run when I couldn't manage one. Don't stress about having to go back a day or week, there's no race to finish the program. Took me about 6 months!

When I felt like I just couldn't do the workout for the week, I would go back and repeat the one from the week before. In your case, week 7, until I felt that I was ready for the next one. The other thing that worked for me was slowing down. If I was running at 5.5 miles per hour, I would slow to 5 mph for the first workout of the next week (of longer running).

Hope that helps!

I just finished day 2 of week 8 and still can't run the full time it says. My legs just feel like they are going to fall off. I plan to do my first 5k the end of April...hoping speed and stamina will come. Any thoughts or advise?
