Wow! I'm soo excited I found this thread. I found the coolrunning website 2 weeks ago and started running outside then. Starting w3 on Monday! I with all of you...running/walking outside has been sooo enjoyable. Can't figure out why I've avoided it for so long? I know it will get hotter, but I really am in this for the long haul. Good luck everyone!

I have decided I really like jogging outdoors much more than on a treadmill, and I NEVER thought I would say that!

Keep it up everyone :)

I'm so stubborn that when the first sign of spring appears I'll exercise outside even when the weather turns back cold and miserable. Two days ago I ran in the cold rain, but I was outside! So far I've done all of my runs outside. The treadmill terrifies me. I can't stand the pound, pound, pound sound!

Yeah for spring/summer!!! emoticon

Finished week 2 d3 on sunday. Felt a little challenging for me but my extremely fit husband who works out 5 days a week and runs on a treadmill could not keep up with me. He was struggling. I was encouraging him to keep running with me from now on. He was amazed that I was showing HIM how to run.

I have been doing my C25K's outside, and I really love it! It feels nice to be outside. I don't think I'll ever want to be on a treadmill again. I'm currently repeating week 2. I wasn't ready yet for week 3! Has anyone else had to repeat a week?

Yeah I did my first day of c2k5 yesterday morning. w1d1. I also walked for another 15 minutes with another 2 minute straight run. Felt so good after and even took a nap later in the day. I have been in severe pain since surgery in November and not sleeping well at all. Feeling good today.

I'm so up for this challenge. I'm starting my C25K journey all over again (fell off the wagon for several weeks)and I would love an excuse to spend more time outside and push myself to the limits. I'll save the gym for those rainy boring days...or water aerobics lol I kinda need the gym for that

I've got serious treadmillphobia, so I only run outdoors. My neighborhood is perfect - some flat, some hills, nothing extreme. Plus I love being able to get in a run after I walk the kids to the bus in the morning!

tried to take it outside again last night and this am--winds at 20mph and gusts up to 32mph have kicked my butt!! hard to catch your breath when the wind almost knocks you over. i DID do a 1 mile walk/run around the neighborhood this am. i walked when going into the wind and ran with it at my side and back. figured it's a start! if the darn wind would die down soon it would be great

I don't have access to a tredmill - so all my walk/running is outside. I love looking at people's gardens & right now am feeling encouraged by all the signs of spring.

Treadmills literally scare me.
The metaphor of a trap, like a rat on one of those wheels, floated in front of my eyes and compelled me out of doors when I began the c25k 8 weeks ago now.
The first few weeks I only ran in the dark because I am so self concious and thought I might be laughed or sneered at by my neighborhood.
I am developing a new sense of confidence in this journey now, I really enjoy being out anytime and there are all ages, body types people out there too!

I started running outside in the middle of week 4 and boy it is a big difference. I did week 6 day 1 today outside and for some reason it seemed tough today. It is weird somedays I can breeze through it and other days its like my body forgets I have been running for weeks now.

i've only tried to run outside once a few weeks ago. it was so hard!! it was windy and blowing right in my face. plus my pants were too big and i kept having to stop to pull them up (i have since taken the waist in on them--hadn't worn them in awhile)

it's hard finding time to run outside. when i go to the y they have a daycare--can't leave the toddler home alone ya know...

WOW!! Did my run outside today. What a big difference from the treadmill! I feel like I got a much better workout running outside. My thighs and tummy are feeling the difference too!
I'm looking forward to my next run day, it'll be outside and not on the treadmill.

I never thought of myself as a runner much less an outside runner but I have done several of my runs outside and it is fantastic. They are more challanging for me outside but I love it. The fresh air, sun, rain, wind whatever is just so awesome. I think I might be in love with running.

That will be what I try to do for tomorrow.. I'm starting on this program all over again!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. As we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Loving this challenge! I try to get outside when I can, and so far have been able to do 2 of 3 runs outside with the fortune of having pleasant weather. And I find now when I'm driving anywhere close to home, I think to myself "that looks like it might be a good running route!" Never imagined I'd be saying that! emoticon Plus, running outside gives me "goal marks" - instead of pushing myself for so many more seconds and trying to count in my head, I'll say "just get to that telephone pole" or "to the end of the block." Makes getting through it much easier than being stationary on the treadmill, that's for sure! emoticon

Sounds like a good challenge for me. I will certainly give the outdoors a try. I have been on the treadmill as I like to be close to a bathroom. I have IBS and sometimes the running can aggravate my condition. I will certainly give it a try with this great weather we are having.

YOUR APRIL 2010 CHALLENGE!

TAKE IT TO THE PAVEMENT

Are you sick of the treadmill yet? Well, time to take it outside! Your challenge is to do at least ONE of your C25K runs outside each week.

Time to set aside your fears about people seeing you running and get the fresh air on your face and sun on your back! Running outside can be tougher, but it can also be more rewarding.

Are you up for the challenge? If you are, let us know, and share your experiences with the rest of us here!!!
