I just finished week 4 yesterday. The running intervals stopped just as I was starting to do the mental pep talk and bargaining, so I figure I'll go for week 5 day 1 Saturday.

Week 5 looks intimidating, but I figure that if I really can't do the long running intervals, I will keep trying until I get through them.

Finished w4d2. Again it was a real struggle. I'm thinking I may need to do an extra day or two of wk4. I can get through the 5 min. runs, but it is really difficult. How do you decide if you should repeat a day or should I go on to w5 and see what happens?

I did W4D2 today... and didn't make it. I had already swam 30 minutes (675 yards) and I was really tired. Plus, I've done all of my running either outside or on an indoor track and I had to use a treadmill today. Plus (yep, a lot of pluses!), I have my new HR monitor and it was beeping at me for my HR being too high.

So, for day 1 (monday) I had done the following runs: 3-5-3-3. Today, for day 2 I did: 3-3-2. That's all I had in me! I'm hoping Saturday's "day 3" goes a lot better. And, yes, I'm repeating this week! emoticon But, really, it is OK... I am STILL getting in better shape... it'll just take me a little longer before I'm ready to run a 5K!

Did W4D2 yesterday. Little more tired than day one, but I think it's because I did some running on Tuesday also... I usually do strength training or swimming on the days between, but I wanted to time myself doing some things... Gonna do day 3 tomorrow, and if I'm not satisfied with how I feel during it, I'll do another day or two of this week.
Eager to get to week 5 though, wanna be halfway done with this!

Keep up the good work everyone emoticon

Hey everyone!

Keep up the effort even if a week is repeated.

Yesterday, I did W4D2.

I am almost positive I will repeat this week. The heart rate monitor keeps beeping and beeping, which tells me, cardio wise,I need to get stronger before moving on. Will probably extend some of the runs next week if I can.

CARJAC1: For me, I set the goal of # of calories to burn 5 days each week. I take 2 days off usually. So whether it is the running and walking or biking or just walking, I try to do it long enough to burn those calories. Some people count ST in calories burned, but not me - just the cardio part.

To lose weight it all has to do with NET CALORIES (Calories consumed - Calories burned). Here is an article I just read this morning.....

Hope this helps.....

I would definitely add strength training if you are trying to lose weight. Muscles burn more calories! I also swim and cycle and do Wii and videos, but I think the strength training is the most helpful for weight loss. emoticon

what other/extra exercise training are you doing while doing c25k? It has been suggested that if I want to lose weight while doing this, I need to exercise more. What else?

I'm trying to make myself go run in an hour or two, though wondering if I should. I've already had a long workout day, but I don't want to get behind. Anyway, I'll either do W4D2 today or tomorrow!

It is nice hearing how others are handling the transition to week 4... some being able to do the "whole" thing and some having to take it a little easier.

I was thrilled when I did Day 1 Monday and was able to run for 5 minutes! What an accomplishment. But, for the second 5, I only ran 3. (First I rested an extra minute and then I quit a minute early.) Anyway, I hope to at least do 3-5-3-4 on my day 2 run. I've been semi-repeating each week, so I'll probably be at week 4 through most of next week, too.

Congrats to us all! 5 minutes is a 'big deal' and we should be proud for working so hard!

I just joined the team but I've been doing this for several weeks now! Did W4D1 yesterday and wow, so much better (for me) than week 3! It was definitely tough, but it felt good and I fee great today after it. Sweated up a storm, but it made me feel even better about things.

Can't wait to do day 2 tomorrow!

And awesome job everyone else, its so great to see other people doing this!

Completed wk4 day1 today. It was tough, I struggled, but I DID it, all of it. AND, I lived. The second five minute run was really about pushing myself to finish and not quit, like I wanted to. I was also running on the tredmill and that seems harder.

Well, I gave W4D1 a shot, and near the middle of the second 3 minute run I slowed down until about 30 seconds into the second 5 minute run. Oh well. I guess this week will be a practice week. Time for another try on Wednesday. :)

I have a feeling though that Wed.'s run will be better. I wasn;t feeling in tip top shape today and the wind was blowing into my face the entire time. I did however do the first 5 minute, which was amazing. never thought I would be able to pull an entire 5 mins off. Woohoo! :)

Finished W4D1! The 5 minutes was definitely harder, and we felt it a lot on the last one, but we didn't stop :) Ask me 4 weeks ago, and I would have told you it would be impossible for me to jog 5 minutes...and twice at that!

Finished W4D1 today.

Very difficult running today. Humid. Calves tightened up on first 3 min run. Left foot fell asleep on 2nd 5 minute run. So....sockfooted for awhile, while I worked on shoe.

Heart rate monitor during the 5 minute runs were signaling me like crazy. I kept slowing down more and more until I was barely running at all.

I completed W4D3 today, it felt awesome. On my W4D1 I was able to extend my last 5 minutes because I wanted to crack that 2nd mile and not end at 1.90 but today I felt the last 5 was a bit tough but ready to move on to W5. I have a new friend at the gym that is running with me so it was fun to have her at W1 side by side with me. emoticon

Did W4D2 this morning!! (with energy to spare!!) Despite having a rough start with D1 earlier this week, I really paced myself well this time around and felt really great after finishing!

Now that I know I can do W4 intervals there are no excuses! I can do this!!

Finally finished Week 4! It took my 5 runs, because I couldn't quite finish the run the first 2 times. But it feels so good to finally have accomplished it.

I'm really looking forward to Week 5. It seems pretty intense, especially because it changes every day, but once I am able to finish that 20 minute run, I think I will actually be able to consider myself a runner.

emoticon Finished W4D3 this morning. Week 4 has been a challenge - that last 5-minute run ALWAYS feels hard - but I've been able to run through the whole workout on all 3 days. I'm stoked! Now trying to figure out whether to repeat a day or two in W4, until that last run feels a LITTLE bit easier, or move on to W5.

Just finished WK4 last night. Am looking forwards to starting Wk 5 on Friday night after work.

Feeling OK, although my legs are feeling just a tad sore today.

During the run I have to really concentrate on running tall, so that my calf muscles don't feel tight, but so far I feel like I'm winning through!

emoticon Finished W4D2. My calves were pretty tight - I forgot to stretch them before the workout - and my hamstrings were a bit sore. But, thank the Lord, I was able to talk myself through every minute - especially the last 5-minute run. AND, to my surprise, I was a TEENSY bit faster today than on Day 1. So... on to Day 3 on Friday!!!

I did W4D2 yesterday and as i was nearing the end of my 2nd 3 minute run, i accidentally tugged on the emergency stop and had to resume. That is what i dislike about running on the treadmill. And so i got a break in between that was undeserved. I shall see how tomorrow goes. I am actually thinking of repeating W4, really scared of week 5....but hey, emoticon ...so can i!!

Wow. Timewise that actually puts you closer to W5D2 which has the 8 minute runs. I only had to keep going for 5 minutes when I did W4D1. You're doing great!!

So sorry Abby. Once your leg heals you might try laying off the shred while you are training for a run. I've done the shred before and it was pretty intense. I expect that all those squats and lunges add too much extra stress when combined with running, not to mention the jumping jacks. I was doing some squats and lunges with my lower body ST and had to cut way back in order to keep up with running.

I finished Wk4Dy3 yesterday. On to week 5 tomorrow!!

Well, it looks as if I might have to take leave of C25K for a while. My left leg has really been bothering me since week 2. I must have done something week 1. At first it felt like my knee, but it's actually just below my knee on the inside front corner. I can walk ok, but steps, especially going down are really tough. I'm going to see how it feels if I take a week off.

This is going to be really hard because I've been doing this, plus Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and walking about 2 miles a day. I'm going to try to do just upper body stuff with weights. Punches would be great but the stance hurts right now, too.

I guess some people are just too old and out of shape. (I didn't really say that.)

Wishing all of you a successful and injury-free journey.

Well, I completed W4D1, what an accomplishment! I cannot believe I handled those 5 minute increments! I wanted to die when it was over, but it was so worth it! I was especially nervous yesterday because it was the first time I was doing my routine with my fiance. He is not a runner and just walked while I did my thing. I felt terrible just leaving him behind as we normally walk together and talk, but I had a goal to accomplish! When I finally finished and walked back to meet him is I realized how much of a difference a month made. I was a solid 4 blocks ahead of him, and I jog SLOW!

Did Week4 Day2 last night and I have to say the start of it I was feeling it - near the end I was wanting to do more.

Day 3 here I come!

If HE leads you to it, HE will see you through it.

Hello Runners,

I am traveling in East Africa and could not get to a gym or a running track most of last month. Now i am living in a nice apartment block with a gym, and i am back to my C25K. I did W4D1 today. It was not as grueling as i had feared, but i kept my speed at 7.5km/hr for the run and i think that helped. I was very happy with myself, i am sorely tempted to go and do D2 tomorrow!! I put a towel on the treadmill display and imagine myself out in the park near my home.....

Happy Running, emoticon emoticon

Thanks to Hurricane Alex I didn't get to do Week4 Day2 last night :(
We're going to do it tonight instead.

I did about 10 mins on my WII last night - I was just wiped out. I'm looking forward to tonight's run.

Congrats everyone on how far we've come!

If HE leads you to it, HE will see you through it.

Wow. W4D2 done. I admit I was watching the clock for most of the last 5 minutes. I spent 15 minutes doing the Wii Fit island cycling last night, which was a mistake. On the flip side, I'm half tempted to skip W4D3 and jump ahead to W5. When it came time for the 2nd 3 minute run, I'd psyched myslef up for 5 minutes again and was disappointed when the voice said "run for 3 minutes." I'm not going to skip it, but I'm strangely looking foward to next week's 5 minute intervals-only.

Is this what they call a runners high? I thought you had to cover some distance before that set in.

I cannot make myself be thin today, but I CAN be healthier by making a few smart choices. I focus on what needs to be done today and tomorrow takes care of itself.

W4D2 (last night) was MUCH easier than W4D1! I even ratcheted up the speed for the final minute of running. I think the key this time was that I had a rest day the day before. So now I'm going to try spreading out my C25K "weeks" a bit so that I have either a rest day or upper body-only day the day before. (I had been doing Turbo Jam on non-run days, sometimes ST and sometimes cardio.) I think my legs may just need more of a break.

--For me running is about being in the moment.--

I love this, Cincy! I just had to quote you.

You are totally right. With this program, we should focus on where we are "right now" and enjoy it!

I'll tell you, as person who would have never dreamed of being a runner, I have been so proud of myself during each step of this program. During week 1, 60 seconds was daunting, but I did it. The 90 seconds was tough, then 3 minutes and now 5 minutes. But I have done it! And I am enjoying the way that I feel. I have more energy and I feel so much stronger. And if I have a week that I need to repeat, that will be fine. I will just continue to enjoy the journey.

I am loving this!!! :)

Way to go all. I'm packing it in shortly so I am ready for my run tomorrow morning.

I stopped really thinking about this last week. I feel like I just need faith in the program and my body and just follow the schedule. If I think too much about the distance I'm covering or what's coming up next week I'll miss the moment. For me running is about being in the moment.

OK Week 4, Day 2 complete.

Better than Day 1. I avoided those steep hills. While 5 minutes is tough, I thought back to week one, when one minute was a challenge. Think of how much we've all accomplished.

Like many of you, I'm relatively slow. The second 5 minute run was almost like a walking pace. My stride was cut in half. But I finished.

Not thinking about week 5 yet. So much of this is mental. Got to stay in the present.
