This morning I finished W2, D1 of the training. I actually held my run for 120 seconds instead of 90 seconds. It was nice!

I also just finished W2D1 of the program.

I was a little worried about taking it up a notch to this but I talked myself into it and am happy I did. The first day of a new week is always the most challenging. But I actually like the W2 program more than W1, it feels easier to keep the same speed longer than to switch more often (or at least I don't seem to cramp up as much).

Well I did Week 2, Day 1 of C25K and boy it was hard. I'm not sure if it was a mind over matter thing but when doing the running part... I was really tired and I struggled a bit. SO...I will be doing this more than 3 times per week.
But I felt really great after and very proud of my self!!!

Did W2D3 today, and I felt pretty good. My heart rate was 180 after the runs, though, which had me a little freaked out. I didn't feel out of breath or anything, but my heart was definitely working hard!

I'm on the fence about doing another day or two of week 2 or moving on to week 3. I feel comfortable at least giving week 3 a shot on Monday, but my workout buddy is definitely not ready to move on yet, so I'm torn. I don't want to hold myself back, but I don't want to leave her behind.

I'll be doing week 2 twice. Today is my w2d3 and I'll start over again on Saturday.

I'm 35, with almost 90 pounds to lose, and I've never run before - so I'm really trying to get accustomed to each week before moving on. I have had problems with hip and knee pain in the past and I do not want to push through too fast and injure myself.

If you feel like it might be better to do week 2 again don't worry about it! Do what's right for you. emoticon

Getting ready to go run W2D2 in a little bit. I missed yesterday's run and am going to have to do two days in a row now (today and Friday) due to working 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday this week. It's going to be tough, but I'm committed to doing it.

Do you find yourself extra hungry on days that you run? I feel like I could almost eat everything in the house!!!

I ended up not doing W2D1 on Tuesday and instead did it last night. It was actually easier than I expected. I'm glad I'm doing it like this though and gradually increasing my time. The first day I like to do it at a slower speed and then continue to increase the running speeds each day. I will be doing Day 2 on Saturday morning emoticon

W2D2 kicked my butt today! But I feel fantastic. Running up the hill my house is on is no joke and I still can't make 90 seconds going up the hill, but I made it up to 70 today. I too will be repeating week 2 next week, but I feel so good about myself after my runs I am glad I started this program.

Hope your first day went well!

Just finished W2D2 this morning... I usually do my big workouts in the afternoon, but got it in this morning because we have such a busy day today. It was harder than the forst day of week 2, but I think that is because I did the wii fit a little over an hour before. But I finished it.

I'll be doing week 2 over again next week. emoticon

Just a little nervous about tomorrow... I start W2D1 tomorrow. I did 2 weeks of W1 and still felt like it was tough. Tomorrow will decide if I have to go back and do a 3rd week or keep moving on with week 2.

Finally! I've been struggling with the past few runs, they've just felt like crap and when I finished them, my body hurt and I wanted to just give up and go to bed. Today's run (w2d2) was SO much better. I didn't feel like I was slogging along and when I was done I felt energized. It's days like this that remind me why I keep going. It does get better and I can do this.

Finished W2D2! Felt absolutely great, even though I am on the verge of sick. I got on the treadmill exhausted. I started walking and stopped. I got off, walked around the gym, and came back DETERMINED. And I did it. With a pretty decent time at that.

W2D3 on either Saturday or Sunday depending on when I take my spin class. Wishing you all luck, Friday runners!

I just did week 2 day 1. I spent over 3 weeks at week 1, but it was well worth it. The last running interval was a challenge, but not anything like the first week I tried week 1. I am stoked! Don't know if I will have to spend more than 1 week on week 2, but it will depend on my knees and other factors. My goal is to be ready for 5K by Jan 11th 2011, so I am going to do what I need to avoid injury.

I'm finishing up my last day of Week 2 this afternoon. So far it has gone pretty well for me. I start having to push to get through the last 2 intervals or so, but it hasn't been too bad so far. (And I've probably just jinxed myself and week 3 will be terrible.) So far so good!

Hi Everyone!
I did my first 5K on Sep. 25 (but I jogged and walked it). Last week I did my walk/run for 4 days. Week 2 has been a little difficult..I have been having some pain on the ball of my foot and not quite sure why. Other than that, my training is going well. I walked/ran (in intervals) 2.5 miles yesterday. Hope everyone else is doing great!

Thanks CincyDora, that's what I'm hoping as well - let my legs build up their endurance while I keep plugging away at it.

Chelles Belles, thank you too! I appreciate the link, and will give those a try.
I've been using SP's leg/lower body strength training exercises all along, although admittedly not consistently enough. I'll up my ante and put more effort into it.

HRYAN4740 - sorry you've had a rough start for Week 2. Hang in there! It'll get better for both/all of us!

UGH! Week 2 did not get off to a good start. I ordered new shoes, similar to my current ones but with a little more cushion. I liked them, my feet/legs HATED them. I finished, but I had to power through. My shins were hurting and a few of my toes even fell asleep! I keep hoping that the stars will align for me so that I can have another run like day 1 where it felt amazing. I don't want that to be a fluke. Saturday I'll try again, with the proper shoes this time. Apparently, the need for stability trumps the desire for more cushioning in the forefoot. (Discomfort wins over outright pain every time.) I just have to keep telling myself that it will get easier and remembering how the scale is showing off my progress. Hope everyone's week 2 is going better than mine!

Candy- If you odnt have access to the gym, try doing the exercises for lower body on sparkpeople. Before I do C25K and when I first completed it, I did anything that involved heel raises since I have problems with shin splints. Eventually, it gets much better, but you should try strength training when you are not doing the program.

Here's an article too: http://www.runningplanet.com/training/runn

Candy, I run into trouble when I try to fit lower body ST in with C25K. The first time I tried the program I was very tired in weeks 2-4 but things started to get better after that. I think it just takes the legs a couple of weeks to get used to working this way.

Hello week 2! I think week 1 could have gone better, but considering the massive hills I was running, I kicked butt. This week, I've mapped out a new, MUCH flatter route and I'm actually excited to go run tonight. To top it off, my new running-exclusive shoes are coming in the mail this afternoon. So, here's to kicking week 2's butt!

W2D1 was last night. Oddly enough, I couldn't remember what the time increase for running was going to be, so just went with it. I'm using Podrunner Intervals for the timing, and it seemed to fly by.
Toward the end, I thought my legs were going to fall off, from the knees down. I need to work on strength training more, in addition to the running.

Anyone have any suggestions for effective specific ST for strengthening my legs?

Finished W2D1! I was in a great mindset going in and I made it work. I purposely set the times (I treadmill run) lower and adjusted them for my shin splints. By the end, I couldn't believe how fast the time went.

For D2, I'm going to kick it up to my fastest speeds from W1 and a possibly a bit faster.

I'm due for Week 2 Day 3 tonight. I managed to squeeze Day 2 in Saturday morning even though I was out of town. I'm still sticking with the treadmill but hope to get at least 1 run in outside so I'm prepared for my 5K in December.

Today is going to be my first day of Week 2, I think it'll go well for me. I can run 2 minutes straight now, compared to when 30 seconds seemed like FOREVERR lol! wish me luck :)

Week 2, Workout 2

Just finished today's run. Feeling a little slow/tired today and did not run at my usual speeds. About 5 min in trying it at my regular speeds I almost called it quits for the day but I pushed thru, just going a little slower than usual! I decided that I would NOT quit and that I would push myself for the whole 20min! And damn it I DID IT! I feel pretty good about myself because I wanted to quit and I didnt! LOL!!
Today's Stats:
Brisk Walk: 3.5mph (my usual speed)
Jog: 4.0mph (down 0.5mph)
Walk: 2.0mph (down 1mph)
Total time:20min
Total distance: 1.010 miles
Average MPH: 3.03mph (which is only actually down .38mph total so that is not bad at all!)

Just finished Week 2 Day 1 of the Couch to 5K program, feeling pretty good, really out of breath though because I had to keep talking to my 2yr old while running because she wouldn't stop jumping around and I didn't want her to fall onto the treadmill:
Brisk Walk: 3.5mph
Jog: 4.5mph
Walk: 3.0mph
Total Time: 20min
Total Distance 1.128miles
Average mph: 3.354mph

Now it is time to hop a shower and get dressed in non-running clothes LOL

My goal is to run the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5K in Sept. 2011!!

I started back in June and made it through week 6 before quitting. I decided to start back with week 2 to see how it goes. I did W2D1 and felt pretty good. I'm determined to finish the program this time!!!

I did Week 1 really quickly because it was the third time I had tried it. No issues there, thank goodness. Started W2D1 on Sunday morning. I thought it would be easier than it felt. I don't know if it was an off day or if it was just that hard. I have Zumba tonight, but doing W2D2 tomorrow. Weeee!

Starting W2D1 tomorrow. Week 1 was really easy after I got my breathing down. Can't wait to see how Week 2 feels!

W2D2 done and it was more difficult but doable. Got an application for a 5K on Thanksgiving day so now I have a definite goal to work towards. Turns out my 12 year old son will run with me as well as a variety of friends who already run. Should be fun. Now to get to work!

Did w2d3 today, it was very easy. I noticed how much easier it was than the first day of the week. Now, on to week 3!

Did w2d2 today outside. No problems. I walked enough to make it a 5k afterward. On to w2d3 on Thursday.

Just finished w2d1. I didn't feel like I had any problems, but both of my sisters went with me today so I had a distraction. It was fun. I wish they lived closer so we could train together.

Started wk 2 today. Did it on the treadmill because it was hot. Really pushed myself to go fast (5mph)on the running parts and walk 3.6 mph on the walking parts. That's fast for me.
