i got in W2D3 just before the rain started. Phew! I think I'm going to do one more day of week 2 before moving on to week 3, just to err on the side of caution. I'm leaving on Thursday evening for a month-long vacation in the land of good food, plentiful adult drinks, and free babysitting, so I don't want to give myself any excuses for giving up on running!

I do W2D3 tomorrow and I'm really excited! I can't wait to get to week three... I've been on week1 and week2 for what feels like forever due to starting over once or twice.

It sounds like everyone is doing well, keep up the good work!

Texgirly - I can't believe you ran on the beach. I always feel like its harder to walk in the sand, much less run on it!

Nancie - I agree, the music just doesn't grab me much for week2

If you want big changes then you must make big changes.

Man oh man - I am on vacation this week (yes - laptop is part of the travel package at this point) and I ran W2D1 on the beach this morning. I find I run faster off the treadmill than on. I was huffing and puffing. I walked through two of the segments and still came in on my typical pace.

For day 2 of this week I may have to repeat day 1.

I finished W2D1 this morning. It had just finished raining and the humidity made breathing a bit more challenging than what I had experienced before. I also didn't really like Ullrey's music picks today, so that may have added to my perception of challenge. I'll try out one of the others on Wednesday.

I only took a day off between W1D3 and W2D1 - I couldn't see taking two days off between sessions.

Sounds like everybody's doing great!

I just did W2D1 and it felt really good. My last two intervals are all up hill though, and that kills me. Kills me in a good way.

I completed W2D2 and yep, the last two pushes were hard! But I was also outside, and it was different terrain than the track at the gym. I feel great though!!!

I just moved into Week 2 today and completed day 1. I was nervous because 2 days off felt like a lot time. I hadn't run since Saturday. This first and last 90 seconds were the worst, but the ones in the middle felt easy, comfortable and almost enjoyable. I am looking forward to day 2.

I stick to the program on T, TH, and Sat. I am trying not to go overboard as I have in the past and follow the rules about resting in between. But it feels like I could be doing more. But I guess overall, my body likes the rest and this will only help me perform better and keep going longer.

This morning I did W3D1 & it was tough but I completed it.Woohoo! It seem like the 3 minutes(the first interval) lasted forever & I thought Robert on the podcast forgot about me(lol)but the 2nd 3 minute interval went smoothly.

Have no fear you guys we can do this! Believe & we will achieve.

Way to go Joyce.....a running buddy that sounds great!

Have a good one & make it a great day.

I finished Week 2 this morning. I ran with a friend of mine. It made it a little better. We motivated each other. She has already been running, so she is going to pick it up with me. I used my Blackjack II phone on speaker for the 1st time. It was so much better than having my IPOD with the headphones. The headphones I have aren't designed for a small person like me. I'm thinking about getting a set of Bluetooth headphones down the road, to use with my phone. Maybe I'll get a set for my birthday in August. Well, have a great one. Good luck on your runs. See you in Week 3!

I looked at the program, and it what really concerns me is that I won't be able to make the leap from 90 seconds to 3 minutes and 5 minutes. I guess it will all come in time. Hey, as long as it comes before my 5k on August 25. Hehe. Thanks!!!!!!!

I did W2D3 this morning & have lots of energy. I can't wait until Week 3.
To answer your question Degirlsb next week consists of:5 min of brisk walk;jog 90 sec.;walk 90sec;jog 3min;walk 3min.
Week 4 :brisk walk 5min;jog 3min;walk 90sec;jog 5min;walk 2min;jog 3 min walk 90sec;jog 5min.
You can go to www.coolrunning.com & the program is listed by week under New Runners, Couch to 5K running plan.
Hope this helps & don't give up. We can do this even if it would take 18 weeks instead of 9 weeks.
Have a great weekend.

DEGIRLSB - I feel the same way!

I just did W2D3 this morning (W3 here I come!!) and I definitely felt so much better today than I did on D3. Despite this, I can't help but wonder the hell that will be unleashed in the upcoming weeks!

I did W2D2 last night. As I was running, I was thinking about this...The program is really working. I had a hard time running the 60 second intervals the first day, and now I'm running 90 second intervals and it doesn't seem as hard. But then I started wondering if I'll get to week 3 or week 4 and I will realize I'm just not fit enough and I can't actually run it. Does the progression go as easily through each week or does it get harder as the weeks go on?

I'll also be doing W2D3 tomorrow (Friday) and I'm hoping it goes well! I'm thinking of getting up earlier than usual and doing it by 8am (usually I do it around 9:30am). It's not supposed to be as hot tomorrow as it was earlier this week, only about 78 for a high, so hopefully if I go out earlier it will be in the low 70s.

I'm scared of going into W3 but we have to do it eventually, and I'm sure it will be fine. We can do it!!!

Thanks goes to Degirlsb for giving me them breathing tips...I tried it & it really helps. Thank you! Thank you!

MissJecka I know how you feel it was 80 degrees at 6:00am & we have no breeze just yucky humidity.

I just did W2D2. Wow, it was tough! It was about 75 degrees outside, but there was a really great, steady breeze that was very refreshing!

I did D1 on a treadmill because it was too hot for me to go outside comfortably, and today I can definitely feel the difference between being in an air-conditioned gym on a moving mat and being in a windy, sunny environment pushing my weight along asphalt! I really, really had to push myself for the last 2 runs!

Hopefully Friday's D3 will go better, then onto W3!!!

I'm starting Week 2. I'm going to do W2D1 tomorrow night (because we're in heat wave here in Delaware).

For breathing, I've tried and personally can't do this but my brother ties his breathing to his steps. Usually 3 steps on an inhale, 3 on an exhale. I'm more like 2 steps per breath.

Stinkin' bees. I've been bit by a bunch of mosquitos, which just leaves me really itchy.

When I head access to a treadmill, I liked using it because I could watch tv. I don't currently have one, and since I'm using the podcasts, it wouldn't work out so well anyway. Plus, running outside lets me take my puppy.

Everyone keep up the good work!

I just completed W2D1 this morning at 6:00am. I run outside & I do them on Mondays,Wednesday & Saturdays. Saturday I did the W1D3 at 9:00am & I felt like I was going to die from heat exhaustion. I now know I have to do it no later than 6:00am or after 8:00pm

I need to focus on my breathing & breath slower. Any suggestions or techniques anyone can give me on this?

Kace hope your foot is better & hope you can run soon.

Have a good one & happy running everyone.

May I say that I am so jealous that it is 95 degrees. Here in Washington, the weather is being awful, its about 55 out. I'd personally be satisfied around 80-85 but you know, I wouldn't complain about 95. Heck, I'd even get up at 5 am to do my run if I had to. Actually, thats my plan once it finally warms up :).

But may I say congrads on completing your first of W2!!! I still need to do my second, hopefully today. My bee sting has prevented me from running for the last few days :(

Just started week 2 this morning!

I had originally planned on doing my runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but I had to do this week's Monday session today (on Sunday) because I have plans tomorrow that will prevent me from doing my cardio.

I did W2D1 on a treadmill because it was about 95 degrees today... far too hot for me to run outside like I did last week.

I think outdoor running is a bit harder (from what I've heard from my runner friends) but I know I totally enjoy it. I started the program that way, have no access to a treadmill, and plan on finishing that way. I've done exercise on treadmills before (and ellipticals) and this is 100000 times more enjoyable, even if its harder. I don't get bored so easy...

So, I did W2D3 today. This was the first time doing it outside for Week 2. I don't know if I can do this outdoor running thing. I felt like I was going to die when I got done. Why is it that when I run on the treadmill I feel great when I get done, but when I do the running on the track outside, I feel like I'm going to die?

I need motivation from my team.

Way to go girls!!!

I haven't done W2D2 yet. Sadly, on Wednesday night I got stung by a bee on my ankle. My foot is very swollen, still, so I haven't run yet. I am afraid this is going to set me back. But tomorrow I am running whether or not my swelling has gone down, as long as I can walk. Yesterday it was so swollen it was incredibly painful to move.

Anyway!!! Congrats to everyone who is progressing forward! I'll catch up with you all soon hopefully.

GO TEAM! YOU CAN DO IT!

Hey ladies!!! I completed Week 2, Day 2 today and unlike W2D1, I was able to complete the 90 second intervals of running!!!! I was soooo excited this morning- I was on cloud 9! hahaha

So unlike my last post where I was somewhere in the middle of Week 1 and Week 2-- I am now completely and officially in Week 2!!! I decided to slow my running down to a 14 minute pace and that was enough for me to get through it. :)

Kace, I am a PE teacher and I have to say that some of my best runners have asthma! Isn't that crazy? There are two types of asthmatics: the ones who use it as an excuse to try to get out of stuff (which they know not to even try on me unless the nurse has sent a note) and the kids who understand their condition and work their tails off to manage it through exercise.

p.s. I am a volleyball player too :o)
___________________________________

My week 2 has been going okay so far. Today, I used the free podcasts and used that solely to keep my time instead of using a stopwatch and I really felt like it benefited me b/c I wasn't looking at my watch every ten seconds thinking "Oh my gosh when can I walk again!"

I must definitely say that when it comes to running I get very nervous b/c I see all these people running miles and miles and the concept of running one mile without stopping seems nearly impossible to me. I want to think that I can build myself up to that point using this program, but something tells me in the back of my head that I have never been a good runner and I never will be. In high school, I had to re-run the mile test a couple of times in basketball b/c I couldn't' get it under a certain time. I never achieved that goal and eventually, they stopped making me re-do it b/c there was no way I was going to be able to pull it off. It's those thoughts that really make me struggle with the 4th of July 2 mile race that I am going to enter here soon....

Thats awesome. I've never really run, except for like, play. Even in middle school and such I was like " I have asthma I can't run." Because the teachers were so stupid! Taking kids who had never really run before and forcing them to run a mile! I couldn't do that with asthma, and definitely couldn't do it after volleyball perminitely screwed up both of my ankles (if I run even the littlest bit without my ankle braces on, I WILL reinjure them).

So I always had a defeated attitude like "I just can't do it!" Until I discovered these nice little interval training programs. I'm so excited to finally do the one thing I always thought I never could. Yay!

GO TEAM! YOU CAN DO IT!

Hey there, just wanted to say that it does get easier as the week goes on, just like your first week did. By the time you get to the third session, you are wondering why the first was so hard. I'm on week 8 and really enjoying feeling like a real runner after never running a day in my adult life before starting the program!

Well. I did my first of week 2 today. It was more challenging that Week 1, but I hope that by Saturday that will change. During week 1, my first run was challenging, second minorly challenging, and third not at all. I hope it will progress in a similar direction here. I would like a little bit of a challenge, but today wasn't very enjoyable. I had a crap in my side like no other, and for some reason my cold decided to flare up, so I was coughing a lot (aggrivated my asthma). But thats ok, next time will be better!

Also! I have been mapping my runs on MapMyRun.com and they factored based on the distance and the time that I ran at an average speed of 12.35 miles per hour! Considering most of that was walking, I'm pretty please. I have long legs, so I guess I can travel pretty decent distances.

GO TEAM! YOU CAN DO IT!

I should be on Week 3, but I decided to redo Week 2 because I only got 2 of the 3 workouts in. With my asthma, I decided to get my lungs a little bit more used the running. I did W2D1 today.

That's a great idea, Sandy. I really struggle with weeks 4 & 5...I'll have to try it out when I get there. Thanks.

I've done this program several times (at different levels of fitness and success).

One thing that worked for me -- if I struggled at week #2, for example, I went on to week #3 for a week and then re-did week #2 for the week AFTER that.

It made week #2 suddenly feel easy. There is something to periodization approach to workouts.

So I have not been very successful at Week 2 just yet. I have tried twice now, but cannot run for 90 seconds without my heart rate spiking... both times, I would run 90 seconds twice and the rest of the time- I would run 75 seconds and my alternating walks were always 2 mins. I thought about going back to week 1 but I successfully completed it, so now I'm doing a melding of week 1 and week 2... which made it very hard for me to figure out which week to post in!!!

Is anyone else struggling with Week 2?

I was supposed to start W2D1 today, but my brother ran off with my ipod. I will be doing it tomorrow. W1 was really easy for me, so hopefully W2 will be a nice transitition and not too painful. Id really like this whole thing to be very smooth without me feeling like i am going to die...

Hi Sandy...welcome to sparkpeople! I haven't used the podcasts before. I like to run in silence. Actually I'm having trouble running with my husband next to me. His foot falls are interfering with my concentration! LOL!

Hi all

I just joined Sparks today. What a great website.

I finished week #2 yesterday. I love the program and have followed it several times successfully.

Two weeks ago I downloaded the free podcasts from itunes. I love his motivating voice - 'last 20 seconds you can do it' and I did!

Happy running,
Sandy

Hi! I'll start...I started W2D1 today with my husband. I've actually started and stopped the C25k 3 times before. I'm determined to get through it this time.

It felt great to go out and run today.
