Thank you! Thank you for the Christmas greetings. And the same to you! Merry Christmas! I've got the turkey and the casserole in the oven, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie are cooling, dinner rolls are rising, so I've just got the sweet potatoes and a few other odds and ends to do. Thought I'd just take a quick break and say, "Hello!!"

My 20th (yes, 20th!!) great grand-nephew stopped by with his mom last night. What a cutie - 2 1/2 months old. I'm a great aunt many times over and the 21st is on his or her way. Just gotta keep coming down to Texas to see most of them. I love the kids -- at any age.

Merry Christmas!! emoticon

Hi Everybody!!

Jenny - Good idea....I think we will need the R & R after Christmas!!! Sounds like you are having a great Christmas. Your adrenaline will keep you going through the cold....better than the flu you had last month.

Healthy - I love Tamales....When the boys were litte I had a gal who babysat them everyday and her sister use to make tamales at Christmas.....yummy!!! I miss them so much. I met a lady up here who said she makes them at Christmastime and she would bring me some but I don't think she will be able to get to my house.....I hope she doesn't forget...even if she freezes them for later....nothing like homemade tamales....ok...I'll stop drooling now! lol!!

Anika - I know you love Christmas so I hope you are having a fabulous one!!

Jenny and Anika - Enjoy having little ones around for Christmas....it is so much fun....they are such bundles of energy and so full of life!!

Healthy - Enjoy your family.....

The very Merriest of Christmas to all my SparkFriends!!

You are all the best!!!

Kim

Merry Christmas everyone!! Last night during dinner hubby said "why don't may parents come from Christmas Eve dinner instead of snacks in the afternoon?" so off I ran to ran to the supermarket to get the meal supplies. I didn't have to put on chains. I don't think I would even know how! The store was busy, but not crazy or anything, it was actually fun! We're all ready for the next two days except the kids gave me their cold! Its a bummer but not a big problem since we're grilling dinner tonight and my Mom is cooking tomorrow.

healthy, I saw a show once on PBS about making tamales for Christmas! It looked like fun!

I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas!!

Should we start Maui the day after?

Howdy from Texas!! It's late and everyone else is in bed, but I just had to chime in. We had a very successful impromptu Eggnog and Tamale party tonight with family members dropping in. (Tamales are traditional Christmas fare in south Texas) Lots of other goodies and sadly, I didn't count calories. After all, I'd help prepare most of it! So I was entitled, right??
emoticon
Well, tomorrow will be a very, very light food day. Because I'm cooking again for Christmas. And I should have time for a nice long walk tomorrow, too. Hey, I got 5+ miles in at the airport!! My plane was delayed over an hour, so I just walked all the terminals and Dallas is a big airport. I'm now at 118/124 - almost there. But I'll be ready to move to Maui whenever you are.

Jenny, I hope your family stays well. You need to enjoy the warm weather for the rest of us! Actually, it's getting fairly warm here in south Texas. It was so cold in California when I left and here the last few days, too.

Kim, I've been thinking about you and the cold, snowy weather there. I can't believe you were able to put on tire chains all by yourself! And take them off, too. What a chore! It must be all the weight you're lifting and that cardio that gave you the stamina and strength to do it. I can imagine you were a bit bored and got cabin fever. With the pace you normally keep, that would be torture to be kept in with the weather! My nephew is a doctor in Washington state and they actually closed his clinic for a day - they said no one could get out to it anyway. With just 2 days to go, I guess you might be counting on a White Christmas now?

Oh my, that got me thinking about Bing Crosby singing White Christmas. No one does it like he does. It came on the radio yesterday and I just had to sing along. Pretty loudly because no one else was in the car. I was singing away, really enjoying myself, when I realized I'd missed my exit ... all because of Bing Crosby!

Where did everybody go????? Not even a stop by and say hi????

We're still buried but I was able to get out about 3pm. I had to take chains off at the bottom of our hill and them put them back on at 9pm to get back up...it was just lovely!!

I was able to get everything for Christmas dinner though!! I can officially say I'm ready for Christmas!

Can you believe tomorrow is Christmas eve? The weather has caused some very stressed out travelers around the country. I hope everybody gets where they need to be.....

I wasn't able to get to the gym today....but I did stay under 1200 calories so I should be good to go. I tried to do a few extra laps at Costco and the Grocery store to my 14 year old's chagrin! lol!!

I hope all of you are doing well and I hope to at least hear a hi tomorrow!!! I miss you girls emoticon

Take care,

Kim emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Girls,

I did do my 5 miles on the treadmill yesterday...it felt so good. My knee is paying for it today but it was worth it! I've been countering the missing exercise with staying at 1200 to 1300 calories and the scale was actually down to 142.8 last night!! woo hoo!!

We are still snowed in...our business is closed today too...the roads are treacherous!! Snow + ice not a great mixture. I hope we can get out before Christmas to get stuff for Christmas dinner. My company even closed today and is processing payrolls out of our Sacramento,CA office. Good reason for employees to elect direct deposit!!

I'm bored so I will probably spend a lot of time on Spark today....well I guess I could do laundry, clean house, organize a closet or two.....nah...no fun ;-)

Healthy and Anika I hope you are doing ok....

Jenny - enjoy your sunshine and please send some North and West!!!!!!

Take care,
Kim

I didn't go anywhere and it's even worse today. We got freezing rain on top of the snow so it is like an ice skating rink on top of the snow! It was actually funny watching our Labrador maneuver through it. Our Miniature Pincher is so light she was able to just walk on top of the ice. It is supposed to get to a high of about 28 degrees today. I really feel sorry for the retailers....I know our business was cut in half last night because we couldn't deliver pizza and we have already had two employees call in today and say they can't make it in.

The retailers that depend on Christmas sales are already hurting....I bet there will be a lot of businesses closing in January......

What a year for this to happen.....when our economy is already so bad. Our minimum wage is going up 10% to $8.50 per hour as of January 1st. That plus the loss of sales this month will probably be the nail in the coffin for our business......(all our employees are kids 15 to 21) It's going to be a scary 2009!

Hope everybody else is faring better......

Kim

I was reading that everybody liked Denny so much that I guess the writers wanted to figure out a way to bring him back. That's so funny you say Niel doesn't like you watching medical dramas....John just makes fun of my Life Time Movie Network shows or Grey's type shows. So I just DVR them and watch when he is not around.....silly husbands ;-))

I'll send some healthy (as in well) germs to your house to attack the sick ones!!! I too hope your family is well for Christmas....Maybe the thought of Santa will help!

It is still snowing here.....the worst storm in years I hear. I need chains to get out of our house but everything is fairly good on the main roads...problem is I don't want to take the chains off once they are on because then when I get to our hill I would have to put them back on to get home....dilemma...dilemma...should I stay or should I go.....

I don't know how Anika deals with lots of snow every year....If I ever have the opportunity I'm moving!!
You do not realize how weather plays such a big part in everything you do....work, kids sports, working our, shopping, etc....

Healthy - I hope you made it to Texas and were able to give your DH a big smooch!! I'm sure you have missed him! I hope your Mother in Law is doing ok as well. How many laps did you get in at the Airport? I couldn't get to the gym yesterday so I was really good on the calorie front.

Anika - Hope you are feeling better. You might have a few more weeks of it but it should tapper off then. I hope you are enjoying the munchkins too! Stop by and say hi even if you only have a minute!!

Anastasia wrote and said she is going to New York for the holidays.

Take care everybody and stay well!!

5 more days.....can you believe it!!

Merry Christmas!

I started watching Grey's the middle of last year, then I rented all the dvds. I don't like this years as much, but I do like Denny!! The story line is just silly, but I enjoy him while he's there! LOL!

Neil really dislikes me watching the medical dramas, so I do enjoy when he works Thursday nights! LOL!

I like your 4 laps idea, it does help us connect more.

no miles for me today. My youngest is sick, so I was up several times in the night. She's a bit better today, but my oldest is complaining now. I hope everyone is well for Christmas!!

Hi Ladies

I couldn't find a long trail on Maui but I did find a Marathon course that might work. I thought maybe we could do it 4 times (approx. 105 miles or 169 km That way it won't be hard to meet every night for a drink! Here is the link:

Jenny - all the bunnies are gone here....we had several running through our backyard everyday a month ago. I hope Neil's fire station doesn't get closed down. I think you're right in that a station in an affluent area is going to be the last to close. You watch Grey's too? I got hooked last season but I agree this year has been a little blah...what is with George's character...and they need Dr. Burke back....hopefully it gets better. It is going in too many directions this year.

Healthy and Anika - Catch up with you tomorrow.

Just let me know if everybody is ready for Maui. Jenny I know you are.....Anika and Healthy??

Have a nice evening

120/125 I was off the last 2 days of walking, which is really rare for me. It was a good walk today thought and I saw 4 bunnies! I love seeing bunnies on my walks. Neil is still moving the rooms of the house around and painting (which I'm sure is great for his bronchitis...NOT) but you notice I haven't stopped him at all!

We jumped on the new year/Christmas trade! I don't think I've made it up until midnight since 2000, unless you count getting up with the kids for feedings (back in the day LOL!)

They talked about closing one of Neil's fire stations because of the times, but I don't see it happening. He works in Palm Beach Gardens which is a pretty affluent community (think PGA National, Bears Club, lots of golfing communities) and I don't see them letting that happen. he doesn't go to a lot of fires but he goes to a lot of heart attack, stroke, fall calls, and lots of car accidents. The thing about Florida is that there are so many old people, the schools aren't the best, but the medical care is outstanding!

Alright, I'm off to bed. Grey's is a repeat tonight and none of the episodes have been worth double viewing this season!

Good night all! Oh, and Maui sounds great! whenever you're ready. I might even have a (virtual) rum runner to get ready for it!

Hi Girls!

Hope everybody is having a great day...today is my rest day so no miles to log. We had another snow day and I was getting cabin fever so I actually put snow chains on my car (by myself) and went to get my hair done. A friend of mine cuts and colors it so it is only a mile or two away. I can't imagine putting the chains on at the side of the road....it was hard enough in the comfort of a garage!!!

Healthy - Hope you made it to Texas safe an sound with no delays.

Jenny - I'm sure you are keeping busy with the girls.

Anika - You're probably slaving away baking yummy stuff.

Chat with you later.....

Kim

103/124 - There! I keep forgetting to post my miles! ha. Just having too much fun chatting. I see, Kim, that you've finished the walk and doubled back!

I've got my carry-on roller bag nearly packed and, yes, I have enough time during my layover tomorrow to get a good walk in! That's my plan. I hope to log in some during the holidays ... if I can steal the computer away from DH.

Hi Girls!

We’re back!!! It was so good to read everybody’s posts!

I made it to the gym before the snow and ice hit this morning. The kids had a snow day and of course they were so upset….not!!!! They had fun sledding and hanging out with a friend all day. They have already announced a 2 hour late start tomorrow by tomorrow morning it could be another day off…..I sort of had a snow day too…

Anika – Why do you feel guilty? You’re pregnant. It’s not a permanent condition (or at least that is what I’m told( It just feels like it!!!!
Whatever you gain back we’ll be here to help you get it back off. This is not a short term thing…I think we have all done the yo yo thing before, so I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m looking to SparkPeople and this team to keep it off. I’m only 45 so hopefully you’re stuck with me for a long time…….;-)

I haven’t been invited to any holiday parties and we are just having my mom and Uncle over for Christmas dinner. This is the first time ever my Christmas shopping is already done! The Firefighter goodies is a great idea!! You’re so thoughtful!!

Can’t wait to see the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jenny – I’m so happy to hear your husband will be home for Christmas…..I would think you would rather have him home for Christmas than New Years. If you’re like me I’m in bed before midnight on New Years! You’re ahead of me in the cookie department! I haven’t even done the tub kind! Did you get your walk in today or was it your day off? I did do a 14:35 mm on the treadmill this morning without running. So I guess I can do a little better than a 15 mm.

Healthy – Have a safe flight to Texas. Are you going to do your Airport exercise again? I thought that was great. So cold?? 50 degrees?? Oh I remember the days…I hear you are getting pounded by the rains. I hope it is not affecting the burn areas. I heard it was in Yorba Linda. Your Christmas sounds perfect…good food and great company!! Have a great work out tonight!!!

I will look up walks in Maui and start a new walk as soon as we finish Australia or maybe I will just start it now so we can start enjoying the beach right away…… We can scout a great place to set up Anika and meet there every night. Anika…there are plenty of fru fru drinks that will still be good without alcohol or then again the best part of being on a “virtual walk” is you can have “virtual” drinks too!!!

I think I’ve written my book for the evening. Healthy you might want to get it bound and take it with you for the plane ride ;-))

Have a great evening everybody…

Kim 130/124

emoticon I'm here! But just about to hop on that plane to Texas (tomorrow morning). It's soooo cold and rainy. We're not used to gully-washers here, and it's really been coming down. Nearly 3 inches in one day. So I had to get out to the gym. It was nice to see everybody again, but I prefer outdoors. So, yes! Count me in for Maui. I'm ready for some balmy weather.

Oh, and Kim, by cold, I mean, of course, 50's for highs and 30's for lows. That's really frigid for us in southern Ca. I'm not sure Texas is going to be much warmer, so I'm packing sweaters!

I'll post again later today hopefully, after my workout. It'll have to be at the gym again. It's rainy and windy and cold!

Anika, I agree with Jenny, eat when you need to and don't worry about it. Just be sure to eat well. Have healthy snacks and protein around. Your little one is growing inside and needs lots of good nutrition!
emoticon

Jenny, the Daisy's parade sounds like lots of fun. I'm so glad Neil got time off for Christmas. Great for you. And that will mean so much to the kids, too. Firemen are so very important. Tough job - lots of waiting, then have to be on 110% at a moment's notice. Just this week I heard that some California fire stations are laying off firemen due to the economy. It's a shocker because they're such an integral part of our community.

I'm going to have a quiet Christmas with my husband and 86-yo mother-in-law. They're my 2 favorite people in this world, so I'm feeling really blessed. We have lots of family in Texas, so we're likely to see them in small doses, but not at one big gathering like we used to do. Mom's just not up for so much excitement. She used to be the life of the party, but just doesn't have the energy anymore. I'm doing the cooking and baking, so I'm bringing my recipe book. I love to cook and my hubby is a great dishwasher, so it should be fun. Then we might go down to the island for some R&R if we can find an overnight caregiver to take our place for a day or two. Then back here for New Years.

Stay warm!

Don't feel guilty!! you're doing what you need to do to get by right now!! Just try to make good food choices because that will help you, the new baby and your kiddos! As far as good food choices for me, well, I haven't made one in a while!

Neil is off this Christmas! Someone (a young single person) asked him to swap Christmas for New Years Eve, so we jumped on it! It seems like he's worked more holidays then he's been home, so we're looking forward to this year. The kids have been young enough that shifting the holiday by a day didn't make a difference to them, but they are counting down this year!

We will have my in-laws over on Christmas Eve, and we'll go to my Mom and Dad's on Christmas (so will Neil's parents, he's an only child) and that's really it for obligations. We don't worry too much about church since we go the rest of the year and its crowded and they usually send the kids to other rooms to make room for the extra adults, so I'd rather miss that anyway. We were invited to to open houses on the same night, one in the neighborhood and one a relative. The neighborhood one will be more kid friendly, so we'll probably go to that.

I love what you do for the fire fighters and I know they really appreciate it! Its a really great thing to teach the kids.

Speaking of guilty, the only Christmas cookies I've made this year came in a tub! Even the gingerbread men we made were precooked, we just added the decorations! LOL!

hi girls ... so sorry for being mia lately. i have been trying to read your posts, so i'm all caught up, i just haven't been posting myself.
i guess i feel a little guilty. there you girls are, working so hard at watching what you eat and still getting lots of exercise in despite the busy busy holidays, and here i am stuffing myself like a turkey!
it really does seem like the only way to keep from feeling terribly nautious is to keep eating...
luckily i have only gained 10lb so far (i say only, even though of course that stinks! but it could be much worse considering how much i'm eating and how little i'm exercising!!!), but i worry that i'm going to gain back every one of the 75lb i lost with you girls!
it seems like every ounce of energy i have needs to be channeled into getting my orders (for baking) done, getting our gift baking done, and of course taking care of the munchkins... i'm more than a bit worried about how my next 2 weeks will be, with henry out of school and nolan without any therapy (from 35 hours a week!) and just the 3 of us home for 2 whole weeks!
part of me is so excited to get to spend some quality time with them without appointments/school to run off to, but part of me is worried that they will be bored and grumpy by day 2!
this is where i am very envious of those families that have tonnes of different parties/celebrations to go to throughout the holidays. we had our one family party this past weekend, and that's it. now it's just the 4 of us.
what about you girls?? do you have lots of different family events you will have to be juggling over the next week and a half? and jenny does your husband have to work this holiday?
we will be of course continuing our annual tradition of bringing the firefighters at our local station (it is literally half a mile away from our door, our closest neighbour) a tray of cookies and a thank you card on christmas eve. i try and teach the kids how important it is to appreciate and acknowledge those people that make sacrifices of thier family time to keep everyone else's families safe... i will take pictures and have patrick show me how to load them, i promise!

You're right about the biggest challenge being not being able to leave the kids alone. Neil's been home sick, which sticks, but its helped with my walks! emoticon

I'm all for Hawaii! You name the island and I'll circle it, or whatever you like. I hope everyone else is doing ok. The first trimester can't be fun for Anika, especially with the little ones and crummy weather.

I guess I will have to try that! I was wondering how some members already have over 1000 points for the month.

Looks like it's you and me lately!!

I did my 5 miles this morning at the gym. Any suggestions for our next walk??? I think we should go back to Hawaii...it's warm, pretty, and has lots of fru fru drinks with umbrellas ;-))

Your parade sounded like fun.....what a nice daddy to make a banner...I bet the girls had a blast!!
I still have a little ways to my goal weight but I have to admit I am feeling good. It is so nice to be able to buy regular size clothes and actually feel like I look decent in them.....You're doing great yourself. The walking will make the difference. I know how hard it is when you have little ones. That was my demise after Blake was born. I had a hard time fitting it into my schedule because I couldn't leave the kids alone...anyway....keep it up!

Kim!! Look at your ticker!! You're almost at my goal weight!! You go girl!!

The Daisy's did really well. I have 6 girls and Neil made us a banner, so each girl held the banner with one hand and waved with the other!

I get about 100 spark points a day. I make sure to read the blogs, the articles, do a poll, huddle (although I haven't huddled lately) and play the game. One of the teams I was on was counting sparkpoints as pennies, so we were trying to get them up there!

Hi Girls -

I did my 5 miles at the gym this morning and also managed to get my nails done as well. The high today will be 28 degrees (-2c) low of 12 degrees (-11c) with snow and lots of wind...bottom line it's freezing cold..I think only Anika can relate! I actually drove in the snow...that's something for me. It really wasn't that bad except for one car that was only going about 5 mph that is scarier than the snow because everybody behind us was getting mad......you know how that goes. Healthy...it's kind of like the first rain in CA when everybody freaks out and forgets how to drive!!

I need to get out and finish up a few things but I guess that will have to wait until later.

Hope everybody is having a good weekend...

Kim 120/124 Has anybody thought about our next walk? Healthy you mentioned a great place.....

I did nothing but watch Christmas movies all day....about 4pm I decided I better get my lazy butt to the gym and at least do my cardio....so I did and completed my 5 miles (4 miles on the elliptical and 1 mile on the treadmill)

Jenny - I can walk on the treadmill just under a 15 mm mile but my short little legs are really moving! lol! I don't think I could get under that. I can now jog comfortably at a 11 to 12 minute mile but have only been able to do about a mile or my knee kills me for 2 days.

As for the burger restaurant...sounds good! I completely understand about the not stopping after I'm full...that is why I log because I just don't seem to have an internal shut off switch!! If I have to log it I am much better. One day is fine anyway....and if you really enjoyed it than don't feel guilty about it.....We had Sushi last night and I had 2 glasses of wine! I'm such a lightweight I felt it this morning..lol! How were the Christmas lights???

Healthy and Anika - Hope your weekend is going well!

It's Saturday - the weekend, but I had a big conference and had to get dressed up - heels and such - it was being videotaped. So .... I'm sitting here trying to get organized, realizing that I've really not done any cardio this week. I'm just so proud of all of the REST of you!!

14-minute mile without running! Wow, you're fast, Jenny. I bet you burned up that whole burger. And the fries, too, if you had any.

Well, tomorrow, I'll do my best to get a few miles in!!

I got up and walked 4.75 miles today a and did 14 minute miles without running! I'm so excited!! Sadly, the scale was going the wrong way this am. We got burgers and fries from a new place called 5 Guys. All they make are burgers, fries and hot dogs. Man, that was a good burger!! I kept eating it even when I was full. Its one of the habits I've been trying to break, but it was soooo good and I knew we wouldn't be going back anytime soon! oh well, maybe I'll take the kids for a walk to see Chirstmas lights to make up for it!

You got it Jenny!! Its got your name on it! Glad to hear your walks are back to normal.

ok girls....I just went to the gym and did my 5 miles...my husband referees high school wrestling and called to say he will not be getting home until 9:00pm so I figured I might as well go. Also we are supposed to get a snow/ice storm so I might not be able to go tomorrow or Sunday.

Chat with you later

I had a good walk today and I seem to be back in the swing of things. I didn't dread getting up, I just got out and did my walk. And the bunnies were back! I saw 3 on my walk this morning, which is always a nice treat.

Kim- talk about the power of suggestion, you said you could smell the cookies Anika was baking and suddenly I could smell homemade chocolate chip cookies! trust me, there are none here!! hey, save that dress for me, maybe I'll ear it on the cover! LOL!

Hi Team,

Jenny - I hope to be way past that dress when we do our magazine cover ;-)) but it was fun!!
How was your walk?

Healthy - You are probably going to pop on soon...hope you had a great day

Anika - Hope you're feeling better today....I can smell the cookies from here....

I will probably pop back on in a little while!
I didn't exercise today since I had the early morning meeting....now we are going out to dinner so I don't want to have to do makeup and hair again....that is why I workout in the morning!!! No excuses....

Hello Ladies,

Today was my rest day (well at least from formal exercise ;-) so I have no miles to log......I'm exhausted....since it is supposed to snow this weekend I think I will curl up with a book (after my exercise of course!), with the fire on and do nothing all day. My friend sent me the book Marley and Me. Can't wait! I will have to exercise tomorrow night because I have a client that wants me to attend their 7am staff meeting.

Jenny - Great job on your exercise. I'm so impressed! Especially since your cruise and being sick. I have a hard time when my routine gets messed up. I agree that we are all an inspiration to each other....I'm counting on all of you even after I reach my goal weight. I just can't gain it back this time....I love my Nike + too!! As far as the food front just keep logging on your tracker so even if you go over at least you can get an idea of exactly how much you lose, maintain, or gain based on the amount of calories you eat. It will also help you stop.

Anika - you have an excuse for being tired and gaining weight, but I do agree how fast the momentum slows down when you miss a few days or weeks. Please be careful out on the slick roads....don't beat yourself up....just be healthy and enjoy your favorite time of year!!!

Healthy - The consensus is Costco counts as miles!!! So log away ;-))))) Have the winds died down yet??

I almost forgot I tried a dress on that hasn't fit since I lost weight after Blake (my 12 year old) was born and I was exercising and losing weight. I was so excited. My "little black dress" almost fits. It doesn't quite zip up. Probably about 7 or 8 more lbs. When that fits I will take a picture!!

Have a great evening everybody!!

Kim

(((((Anika)))) I'm proud of you and inspired by all of you wonderful ladies!! I got my 3 miles yesterday and today. Yesterday I mall walked with my Mom, then off to costco!! It totally counts Healthy!! After a few laps in the mall and then the Costco shopping, I passed the 3 mile mark. I'm finished with my shopping, except for one little thing for my Mom. I got her the Nike + because I love mine so much, but they were out of the shoe wallet to slip the piece it. We are cutting way back this year, but the kids are still getting WWWAAAAYYY more then they need.

Food is an issue this month, I haven't been tracking and I've been grazing, but at least I'm walking, and thats mostly because of you all!!

hi girls!
thanks again for your generous offer healthy, but my enormous feet wouldn't fit into those lovely boots. i think i'm going to try and hold off until after christmas and that way i can get a really good pair at a great price... for now my runners are holding out alright, i just have to skate a little sometimes on the ice!
i managed 3 miles yesterday over much ice and snow, and so i was pretty proud of myself. but it really did strike me how much change can occur in the body in only a few short weeks. if i read back to only 3 or 4 weeks ago i look at what i was doing physically and doing it without much trouble. now it really is a HUGE effort just to stay awake all day! i did my walk yesterday at such a slow pace (i was only walking 19 minute miles, as opposed to the 16 minute miles i was walking only a few weeks ago!), and yet i was exhausted afterwards... i had to take an afternoon nap!
i am so very inspired by you girls every day! even if i didn't have a bun in the oven i probably would have slacked off this whole month, knowing that i have absolutely no willpower when christmas and holiday treats/parties/dinners are involved.
but look at you amazing ladies!!! still racking up the cardio (and yes healthy, i do count costco as cardio - look at how huge the isles are that you have to navigate!!), and eating well most of the time. you all deserve to be sparkpeople motivators, since you have definately all been my motivators over the past 6 months!!
yay for you girls!!

Hi Girls!!

Did my 5 miles this morning....

Healthy you are so funny...mad dashes at Costco..lol!! I never thought I would be a morning exerciser but I have to admit there is no time for excuses when you go first thing. If I waited till evening I think I would lose my motivation too....

Jenny - Hope you're doing great...

Anika - Hope you're feeling better (at least a little) You mentioned in an earlier post that this is Patrick's last business trip for the year so I hope he will be around to help you out. Hope the boots are your size...you really need good snow boots.

We are supposed to get snow here this weekend. Healthy can I come visit please!!!!!!!!!! I have no problem with the winds....

Take care everybody and chat with you tomorrow!!

Kim

PB&J on multigrain toast. Yum! emoticon Count me in!

Oh, Kim, you are so sweet donating your 5 miles to Anika. I haven't walked in ages. I've been doing mad dashes thru Costco and hops in and out of the car running errands, but nothing I could rate as Cardio in days. (oops!)
emoticon I even meant to go to the gym tonight (due to the high winds), but when it gets dark, I just lose my motivation. And I still have a desk buried with projects. So I just buckle down and focus.

Jenny - you are so consistent with your miles. And Kim, you are doing great with your 5 miles every morning. You are inspirations! I just haven't gotten out there to follow suit!

Anika - sure wish I could bake a few dozen for you. I'm not a cookie baker, but have been in the past and my house would smell so nice! I always like the smell of fresh baked cookies. So homey. Don't forget that when you committed to making all these Christmas packages, you probably didn't know you were expecting! And that takes a level of energy all its own.

What?! Walking in 5 inches of snow without snow boots? If you can wear an 8 1/2 - 9 (US sized) - not sure how they match in Canada, I could send you my extra pair. They're black and come up just above the ankle. They're meant for walking. Not like the heels and smooth-soled dress boots. Send me your address and they're in the mail to you! The tag says 8 1/2 medium, but I recall them being a bit big on me, even with thick socks. They have like-new cleats. (And what do I need winter boots for in southern California?)

Have a nice evening. I'm still at 80/124 .

Hi Girls!!

I'm donating my 5 miles I did this morning to Anika if that's ok!!

Anika - Peanut Butter and grape jelly...yumm....sounds good to me. You're amazing...I can't take cold weather let alone snow....we are supposed to get a little snow this weekend...the first of the season...to put it in perspective we usually only get a couple of inches a year....It usually will just dust and stick for a day or so. It scares me to death when I have to drive in it...I guess I really am a California girl. I only like snow when it is on my terms and I go to it not vice versa!!

Hope you get through your baking ok...

Jenny - Good job on you 3 miles today! You're doing great. Are you getting over the cruise and your birthday dinner? You know the drill hope on the train...which it seems like you are doing....

Healthy - Hope you're having a great day!!

thanks girls... jenny you described it so perfectly! it is literally all i can wrap my head around right now, just getting the necessary mom jobs done. patrick is away again, until thursday night, so i'm sure that's not helping my mood!
but the real kicker is that i am making all of our gifts for the extended family, and all of the (30+) therapists/teachers that work with nolan, so i have the constant pressure of knowing that every day i laze around and don't bake the pressure mounts!
luckily i am feeling a little better today (peanut butter and grape jelly on multigrain toast seems to be the solution right now!), and have managed to get a ride to therapy for nolan which means that i will be logging 2 miles walking home from the therapy centre. the not so great for walking news is that we got another 5 inches of snow last night!
and did i mention that i don't have winter boots yet?!
but luckily it isn't that cold, so i will survive!
i will log later with my miles!
thanks again my dear friends!

Hi Anika,

We are giving you honorary miles until you feel better. So we are right beside you trying to keep your mind off feeling so badly! It will not last 7 more months. I wish we were there in real life to keep you laughing about the whole thing...even though you know that it will pass in time it is hard to imagine right now... and take it from somebody who knows there is no amount of consoling that can make you feel better....so you will have to take solace in the fact that we are thinking about you and would do anything to make you feel better!! hugs!! All I can say is your body is making a beautiful little human being and the minute he or she is born you will forget this part of it....you already know that because you have two little precious ones!!

I hope you get some help or at least moral support from some other moms around you. I hope the medicine will kick in soon.......

You're not a downer.....we are here to help you get through......so go ahead and let us know how you are feeling and we will say some words of wisdom that won't help you physically feel better but hopefully will put a quick smile on your face and help you forget how you feel for a few minutes anyway!!

Take care!!!

Kim emoticon

g'day girls...
i have read all of your posts and caught up with your adventures, but sadly i don't have any miles to log (except trips to my bed to lie down from the spins!). this week has been CRAZY, and it looks like it's not going to get any better for me until after the holidays. i am really, really struggling with the nausea. i did indeed get a prescription for a safe drug for pregnancy, but as of yet it hasn't kicked in.... i'm hoping it just takes a few days...
so we have had parties, play-dates, pageants, and lots and lots of cookies to bake, and i feel like i am barely keeping my head above water. physicallly i feel absolutely awful, and it's starting to have a negative effect on my mindset. i'm usually such a christmas-crazy person, but these past 2 days i am feeling almost depressed... just self-pity for feeling so awful i think, and exhaustion ( i can't seem to keep my eyes open for more than a few hours at a time). i am really hoping that it is just a quick phase that i will grow out of very soon, because i don't want to be a grump during the holidays!
jenny - happy birthday!!! i hope you and your lovely family had a wonderful weekend celebrating. and don't worry about your measly 4 pound water-weight gain! i'm already up nearly 10 lb!!! the only thing that keeps me from feeling as if i'm going to barf is to have my mouth full of food! this could be a very long 7 months!!
kim - keep up your great work! way to go 60 pound dynamo! i bet your boys are so very proud of you!
healhty - keep up your great hiking! i'm now a couch potato so i will need you to keep being an inspiration!
i'll try and check in tomorrow and not be such a downer!

Well I have to admit having me sing it "virtually" is probably better than the alternative!

I just got back from the gym about an hour ago because I had to go somewhere this morning and didn't wake up until 9:00am!! (too late to go to the gym and get ready) That is really late for me I guess I needed some extra zzzzzz's. Now I have to go do some work but I'm procrastinating. I did my 5 miles like a good girl. I'm getting so much faster I might have to add another 1/2 mile.

Healthy - Sounds like your parties were a blast! Girlfriend time is the best. I bet you all solved the worlds problems in one sitting ;-)

I will have to do some research on QiGong. It sounds interesting.

It's 7:30 now so you can officially go to bed or at least take a nice hot bath and crawl into bed to watch a good movie.

Anika - I hope you are feeling better. When do you go to the Dr to get some medicine? I hope you post tomorrow to update us.

Have a great evening!!

Happy Birthday, Jenny!! Kim's a better virtual singer than I am, so I'm letting her sing the tunes. emoticon

Woohoo - what a nice husband. Took you to a restaurant where you could think about your walking buddies. I like him.

Hey, I posted my very first topic on SparkPeople - one about Paying-It-Forward ideas during the holiday season. Not as fun as games, but I bet you gals might have some good ideas, too.

I had sooooo much fun at the last 2 parties but was too exhausted to make it to today's party. And anyway, had a friend over and we ate my homemade soup (comfort food) and just talked. The 2 parties I went to were both ladies-only. I'd never been to a holiday party like that, but they were both really fun and special with lots of girlfriend talking time. Perfect for me since my DH is in Texas for now.

Oh, and Qi Gong (qi is pronouced 'chee'). The standing exercise portion of it is very similar to Tai Chi. Qi Gong is over 2000 years old and is the system from which both Chinese medicine and the martial arts were born. Hope that helps explain it a little bit.

I had a great weekend, but I'm so tired & ready for bed and it's only 5 p.m.

G'Day all! Today is my birthday! emoticon I'm 41. My brother is a big Tom Seaver fan (a hall of fame pitched from the Mets) and his number is 41m so he calls it the "year of Tom Seaver" which means its a hall of fame year! Lets hope so! I walked 3 miles yesterday because of the nagging in my head. Today I told the nagging its my birthday. The nagging said what a gift a walk would be, and they are right, but its too late because its time for hubby to go to work.

He took me to Outback (in honor of our walk perhaps?) for dinner last night, so I'm up 4 pounds this morning. I'm not surprised or worried. I need to chug some water for sure though!

Have a great day everyone!

G'day mates...

Yesterday was a really long day...I left at 7:30 am and arrived home at 8:30 pm and that was after a 7 hour round trip drive....but I did get my workout done in the morning and my appointment went really well!

I got on the scale this morning and I am down to 144.8...that puts me at 60 lbs lost!!!!...I don't know why the sudden 2 lbs drop but I will take it. Maybe it is because I didn't lose anything last week even though I did everything I was supposed to do.

Healthy - Good for you walking at the mall. It has been 38 degrees here. I'm always cold...so I understand wimping out....I have to agree Anika is a superstar and majorly not a wimp!!
Costco and Trader Joe's - My two favorite stores but I always spend to much. No worries about the pictures I understand all about hectic...that is the story of my life lately....I use to go to a store in Westminster called Snails Pace that sounds like Roadrunner. Hope your shoes feel great.Did you have fun at your Christmas party (or parties by the time you read this)?

Jenny and Anika - Hope you're having a great weekend!

Take care everybody and try to stay warm!

80/124 - Too windy here, so I walked in the mall (4.5 miles). Haven't ever done that before, but I got in before it was too crowded. That was fun. Then the winds died down and I got out in the neighborhood for another 2 1/2 miles.

What a wimp am I? Anika walks 8 miles in the snow uphill ... and pushing a stroller!! A little wind and I'm in the mall walking. Ha! I can wear shorts and a t-shirt in the daytime, but need to have my heat on at night. California has really turned me into a thin-blooded wimp.

Kim - Costco is one of my favorite stores. The problem is that I always find something I didn't know I needed until I see it! One of these days I'll be in the market for a new walking suit. But I want to lose just a little more weight first. Oh and thanks for being patient about the pictures. It was a really hectic week. Promise I'll get them out to you soon.

NEW SHOES! I went to Roadrunner Sports. If any of you have them in your neighborhoods, you need to go. Just to get them to video you on a treadmill. They do a lot of other things, too, to make sure you're getting the right shoes, but I really enjoyed the playback of my walking on the treadmill, seeing how my feet roll to one side. That was really interesting. And they had some shoes I'd been looking for, so now I can't wait to try out my new walking/jogging shoes. They sure felt great in the store.

Oh, and Jenny, I'm so sorry you missed your 1/2 marathon. Really. But now I'm excited that maybe I can train with you!! I'm going to look for a marathon training club here. If they're hard-core runners, I won't be able to keep up, but that's a great goal for me to adopt.

Going to my first Christmas party tonight and then again for the next 2 nights. Busy weekend. I make some great cranberry raw food scones. Really yummy, but you need a dehydrator to make them. So I'm making those for tomorrow night. Sure miss my sweetie, but I'll see him for Christmas.

Hope everyone is looking forward to a nice weekend!

73/124 - You gals are all doing so great! It's fun to read the posts, but I'm so tired (such a busy day today) that I'm surprised I got 5 miles in. I handled 2 calls while walking and it was funny when I was walking up the hills. I just couldn't hide the fact that I was huffing and puffing. I just told them, "OK, it's your turn to talk now and my turn to listen!" And it worked out OK. I'm looking forward to sleep tonight.

Hi Team - WE DO ROCK!!

I did my 5 miles this morning….I usually do 4 miles on the elliptical and 1 mile on the treadmill. I did a 12 minute mile on the treadmill. That’s good for me!

Girls….you need to hang out with my friends and family…..Every one of them noticed my weight loss and said really nice things!! I can vouch that 50 and 72 lbs make a big difference! You’re all welcome at my house for Christmas ;-)

Jenny - When you said you have bad news I was preparing for something really bad…..No big deal if you can’t do your half marathon. Your Daughter needs you and it will be fun at the show. I’m sure there are several walks in Florida coming up…..just keep training. Pretend you are doing the one in December. Are you and Neil walking together? If so that’s great…..

Good job on getting back to your routine today. It’s so easy to get out of the groove. I’m sure your trip to the running store was motivation to keep going! I know how you feel…I just bought one of those velour sweat suits at Costco to lounge around in and the bottoms are smaller than I have been able to fit in for years!……You are looking great and it sounds like you are starting to enjoy the difference. Every time you go out for your walks keep that outfit in mind….you should have bought it for incentive!

Anika – I remember feeling like you do right now. My morning sickness lasted about half of my pregnancy….I guess nature has a way of making you forget until you are going through it again…..The minute it started with the second one I remember thinking I can’t believe I did this again ;-))) I hope the medication works for you. I love babies when there somebody elses! Lol! I’m an older kid person…..give them to me when they are about 6 or 7 and 12 and 14 is even better!! Doesn’t a midwife deliver babies at home? I didn’t have easy deliveries either. Both kids ended up in ICU for a couple of weeks because of different complications. I probably should have had cesareans.

You have lost 72 lbs!!! Wow!! I hope you can find a plan that will be healthy for you and the baby but keep you fit. 72 lbs is such an accomplishment and also much healthier for you. Is the health system in Canada good? I can’t imagine health care that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! Just my portion through work is $5,300 per year and you figure my company picks up probably the other 2/3. It’s great insurance though…..

Healthy – Hope you’re having a great evening! I’m sure you will pop on soon……

Have a great evening everybody!

Kim 85/124

Our group totally ROCKS!! I'm so proud of all of us!!

Well, I have good and bad (not really bad) news. I'm getting back to walking tomorrow morning. I haven't walked more then 1 mile since I've been home from the cruise (and yes, it did take a few days to stop rocking. I noticed it on the wii fit. None of out could stand still!!) The bad news is no 1/2 marathon for me, at least not on the 7th. Neil did all he could to get the day off, but he couldn't. Katie's got a horse show the same time as the race, so there you have it. I'm doing the right "mom" thing and taking my girlie to her show. There is another race in March that I plan on preparing for, but I'm already pretty sure the same thing will happen.

In the mean time, I'm still on the lookout for a race I can do, and ... I went to a running store yesterday to see if anything fit me (my only running outfit I bought on line at a plus store) and I did find an outfit that fit! It didn't fit well enough to buy or anything, but its was a major improvement, so I'm taking it as a victory, continuing to train and trying not to see sad about the 1/2 in December. There will be other races and in the mean time I'm getting faster and thinner.

So, that's the news from me for today.

Thanks for all the kind words ladies!!

hi girls!
jenny - your pictures are GREAT!! it's no wonder you are a scrapper, with girls that cute you have to document it all in style! i can definately see a big difference - my theory is either jealousy or fear of offending is why you didn't get any comments on your cruise. i got really upset a few weeks ago (before realizing that i was brewing up a bun in the oven) because not one member of patrick's family has said a word to me about losing weight, and they are a VERY weight conscious family (all on diets all the time), and seriously - who couldn't notice 72 lb gone?!
but he just kept pointing out that some people equate others' success with thier own failure. sad but true. or of course there is the other one i hear a lot: people saying that they want to comment on how good i'm looking, but afraid that somehow i'll take it the wrong way and think they were calling me fat before (which i definately was, so they had every right to think i looked fat!).
i will definately use you as a source of inspiration for parenting (as i already do for weight loss inspiration!) - i'm sure that you and your husband must have had worries about complications/illnesses after losing sweet baby james, but you obviously made it through and have your 3 gorgeous, healthy girls to show for it.
kim - you are so cute! i love your enthusiasm, it is so well received from me right about now! i am trying so hard to focus on the positive, but it would be much easier if i didn't feel so awful right now. lucky for me i live in canada, where 98% of health care is free, so i'm going to see my family doctor on friday to get a prescription for the medication (that is safe of course!) to help with bad morning (otherwise known as 24/7 barf-fest) sickness. he is going to ask me about a referral for a obstetrician or a midwife, and i'm not sure yet what we're going to do. both of my kids were c-sections (and both complicated ones at that), so i will most likely have to have another one, but the doctor who delivered henry and nolan is now an hour away (we moved 3 years ago). so we will have to do some research and find someone local... but i have lots of time for that!
i did indeed get my 3 miles of frosty walking in today - thankfully the cold helps abait the awful nausea, so i didn't mind freezing my booty off today!
i have no idea where i am on the australian trail, but i will just keep going as much as i can to catch up to you hard workers!
healthy - thanks so much for you sweet sweet words! i am a huge fain of breast-feeding (i did for over a year with both munchkins), so i applaud your best friend!!
keep up the great work girls and thank you all so much!
anika

Oh I can't wait to see your new pics, Jenny, but before I do I had to say hi and a big CONGRATULATIONS!! to Anika. How fun. I'll be 100% excited for you to balance out the fear factor. If I lived closer, I'd borrow your two kids to give you a break. I love children, both the little ones and the grown up ones. ha. Wow, never a shower? I'm with Jenny and Kim, we need to get some planning going. And my vote is that you gotta do whatever that new little being needs right now. And if he/she is telling you to take a nap or drink a soda, then go for it. I know you have 2 others to care for, but boy howdy, you really need to take care of yourself now. 'Pampering' is the word that comes to my mind. I'm so excited we'll be getting a new virtual family member in 2009. Really something to look forward to. Did I ever tell ya'll (my Texas roots are showing) that I'm the proud great-aunt of 20 babies? With a 21st on the way! I also work with pregnant and new moms. My best friend is president of the breastfeeding council of LA and a pediatric nurse. Enough about me. We'll just pull you in a virtual fancy cart behind us on this walk. You'll have a heated seat with glass walls all around it to keep you warm and so you can still enjoy the Australian scenery! I'm sending you warm thoughts! (It's getting to be summer in Australia.)

So, how many family members noticed the weight loss????

NONE!! That's right friends, NONE, or at least no one mentioned it. I'll right it off as a lot going on. The pictures are on the website, so I'll let you decide! The pic at Ellie's preschool graduation is close to my heaviest an at the cruise, I'm 50 pounds down from there!

On a brighter note, I saw a friend today that I haven't seen since June and she totally noticed!

You've never had a baby shower??? We need to change that! Maybe we can all get on the phone and get some web cameras and have a real baby shower instead of a virtual one! I have 7-1/2 months to figure something out ;-)

I'm not one to worry about a little diet soda, tuna, etc hurting the baby. I'm from the school of thought that anything in moderation (except alcohol, cigarettes, etc of course) will not hurt you or the baby. Now.....on the flip side if you are thinking of downing 5 diet soda's a day than maybe you should stick with the non diet or water. At this point I think whatever you can do to feel better is what you need to do. Your body will dictate what it needs....I'm sure when you go to the OB they can help you out with what you need. Sometimes insurance will cover going to a nutritionalist that can put you on a healthy diet that will allow you to just gain what the baby needs to be a healthy one. That's most important!!

You can't worry about anything being wrong with the baby. That's not up to you it is up to a higher source. He or she will be healthy and beautiful....and will be loved.

We're here for you....an excited too ;-))

thanks for cheering me up with your kind words kim!
and funny you should mention a virtual shower, because it would be a first for me! a first shower that is... yup, that's right, i've had 2 kiddos and i've never had a shower, so i will definately look forward to a virtual one in lieu of a real one!
my biggest dilemma right now is the internal debate about wether i should choose regular ginger ale (packed with calories, but at least sugar is definately healthy for a bump), or diet ginger ale which is much more waistline friendly but may not be the best for the bump...
what do you girls think??

Anika - When I said I needed a funny Anika story you didn't have to go that far!!

Congratulations! It will all work out it always does....not to mention the new little munchkin will be as lucky as the other two munchkins to have a mom like you....From all your posts I can tell you love being a mom so you will handle it just fine!!

I do have to admit the nauseous feeling does bring back memories I would rather forget so if you don't mind I prefer to go through it virtually!

I don't know about the rest of you but I think feeling sick should count for some virtual miles as well as all the work your body is going through creating a new life!! You better keep up with our walks! We are not a team without you!!

Of course we will wait for you when we go to New York and do our magazine cover!! Like I said it wouldn't be the same without you!!!!!!!!!

Ok girls.....we're going to have a new little member of our team in 7-1/2 months!! How cool and fun!!

Sounds like a virtual baby shower in a couple of months???????????????????

Take care,

Kim

well hello my long lost friends... or at least that's what it feels like to me!
so my girls, i have a bit of a bomb to drop. i have had one of the most insanely stressful and life-changing weeks i've ever had, so there were only a few miles of walking to log.
so it looks like i will be gaining back some of the weight i have lost (hopefully not all of it though!)... since apparently mother nature has decided that my 2 crazy munchkins just weren't enough to keep me busy!
that's right girls, i am 6 weeks preggers.
i am one part excited, 1 part terrified, and 2 parts terrified (oh did i already say that?!). i am trying to focus on the excited part, but it seems that the terrified part is far more overwhelming. the worries about having the money, the time, the energy to deal with a new baby, and of course the worry that it may be autistic as well are pretty consuming right now. i had made a promise to myself that i would keep eating the same way and try and keep my exercise level the same (just less intense), but that is definately not in the cards right now. first of all it is freezing here, and everything is covered in snow and ice, so no walking outside (thank goodness for a kind friend who has been doing the driving for me for the week until i learn the bus schedules). and the second factor is that for the past 3 days i am unbelievably nautious all of the time (like seriously, 24/7), and the only thing that abates the barfy feeling is cramming food into my mouth... so that is my list of worries, and my big news.
i am hoping that i will still be able to keep up witht he walks once the initial sickness passes, and i am of course really really hoping that you girls will wait for me for our magazine cover and our trip to new york!
i'm going to need a lot of help to not fall into old habits and climb right back up to 283 again...
your stressed out friend, anika

G’day to you too!!!

The girls are back in town and ready to hit the weight loss road for the holidays!! Lets rock!!

I did my 5 miles this morning so I guess I can say I’m officially back in the groove…I don’t mind the 5 am wake up time anymore but the cold and fog are a little harder to get use to!!

Jenny – It sounds like you had a fabulous time on your cruise…I was feeling a little woosey last week and assumed it was all those virtual drinks you were having for us.....

Caribbean line dancing, rock climbing, flow rides, jogging to Jamaica????? Next time I’m going with you!!!! With all the exercise you did you will have no problem getting on the weight loss wagon again…..speaking of that what did everybody think? I bet they couldn’t believe the hot mama on board!!!
I can’t wait to see the pics! I met healthy on my way down to California. We took some pics too. Can’t vouch for how I looked after 15 hours of driving though!! Ask you hubby to burn the pictures onto a CD and then it will be easy to get them on your computer.

No more cocktails or chocolate….awe…I feel so badly for you….Just think of all the calories you're saving!!

We missed you and are happy your back!

Healthy - I must have missed something but what is a Qi Gong????

Sorry about your sister argument, and of course your view was the right one!! That’s the difference between friends and sisters….friends will always let you be right ;-) …I don’t have a sister but the friend I visited in CA is almost like a sister. Hope the salts healed the wounds!!! (Sometimes salt makes it sting a little more though ;-)

Anika – We miss you!! I need a dose of your funny snot-sicle stories!
emoticon

I’m sending you some sunshine…I figure it has to be out there somewhere because it is not here in WA.

Anastasia – Hope your trip is going well……

Chat with you tomorrow!!

G'day Mates! Or Ahoy, as they say (or at least I did) on the ship!! I'm back and I'm so ready to get back to business. I gained while I was away, so did everyone in my family other then my youngest! I had a blast though! I went to the gym everyday and at the end I had enough points to get a Vitality shirt! (you get points for taking classes) I'll take a picture of my with my shirt. I did a stretch class each morning, I did an aerobics class, I too line dancing class and caribbean line dance class, I (tried) to climb the rock wall, and may I pause and say, I could have done it had I not ben scared out of my mind) and I rode the Flow rides (surf pool). I used the elliptical machine, so now I know what you all are talking about, I walked the healthy track on the deck, which is really hard when the ship is moving and the wind was strong, and I walked on the treadmill. My favorite day at the gym was the morning I was on treadmill and the boat was anchoring in Jamaica. The treadmills look out the front of the ship so it felt like I was running to Jamaica!!

I'll post pics soon. Hubby downloaded them to his computer because the memory disc was full, now I need to figure out how to move it to my computer!

Its its ok with everyone I'll post at 62/124 like Healthy Biz because I don't have an exact count and I don't want to drag behind everyone.

I missed you all!!

~Jenny

I love being home, but no one has brought my a cocktail and there was no chocolate on my pillow last night!!

Well, I only made it one mile today, but it was a fast walk around the Auto Mall after my Qi Gong in the park and before rushing across town to yoga. Fun, but busy day. Then my sister called and we got in an argument -- over nothing! There was so much agreement about what we were saying - looking at the same thing, just from different perspectives. But I guess the view was important. (Of course, 'cuz my view was the RIGHT one! ha! just kidding.) So, I'm breathing deep in an out and may just soak it out in a tub of epsom salts and go to bed early.

Kim - I, too, find the elliptical quite different from the treadmill. It depends on the mood I'm in which one I prefer, but they do seem to work different muscles.

Anastasia - any troubles getting out of the airport? I hear they're still being blocked by protesters. I hope your trip has been fun.

And Jenny, I hope you're having those nightly drink with/for us! I love living vicariously through my friends. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Anika, I haven't checked the weather reports, but I hope the snow is easing and you're getting a little sunshine.

Goodnight everyone!

Hello Girls!!

I'm home!! Did my 5 miles this morning and it felt good after our long drive home. I'm so sore because on Friday I walked 5 miles with my friend and Thursday I jogged 4 miles on the treadmill and 1 mile on the treadmill. I guess it uses different muscles than the elliptical.

I usually only do 1 mile on the treadmill. We had such a great Thanksgiving. It was so nice seeing friends and family. I needed that really badly...............

Healthy - Thank you for driving to see us...there are so many people that just don't want to go out of there way...you are definitely not one of those people!!

The drive afterward was more funny than anything ;-) We are use to traffic growing up in CA especially after first rains! We did have an uneventful drive home. There were not as many cars on the road as last year. My mom said Portland Airport was complaining that they were empty! I guess that was the $300 air fair price to LA. I can usually get them for a little under $200 at this time of the year. Times the difference by 4 and we drove!! I think many people just stayed home.

Great job on doing eight miles!! I stayed the same weight wise so I'm happy. Hoping to be down one more pound by the 4th when I do my monthly post...

Anika - Hope you are having a great weekend!

Jenny and Anastasia - Can't wait to catch up soon!!

61/124 - Eight more miles today. Still waiting for our mountains to dry out. Perhaps next weekend.

Kim - so sorry you had to go all that way without a stop! The late night accidents and traffic hold-ups are the worst because they're a bit unexpected. I've been there before and it's a miserable feeling. So sorry! I should have reminded you, but I know you were all ready to get on the road and get to your destination. I'm just so happy you were willing to stop and take the time to visit. I hope you had an uneventful trip home today. I did hear there were a lot of folks out on the road.

I think I'm going to call it an early night. emoticon

53/124 - 6 miles yesterday and 8 today.

Kim - so glad the game went well. It was really a LOT of fun meeting your family. And you can tell your hubby I'd be glad to take the 2 boys anytime. They are so polite and I can always use an athlete and a computer master here to help me out! It's too funny that they thought I was smart. There are days when I can't find my way out of my own house (almost); I'm a good bluffer, I guess. You are just way too cute - much better looking than your pictures and so tiny. I'm glad your friends noticed the difference. I have the opposite problem. I keep thinking I'm skinny until I look into the mirror and remember that I have a double chin and big belly. Oh well. I still feel good.

I ended up fasting yesterday. It was a great way to spend a day that is usually so focused on food!

Anika, it's amazing to watch the miles you get in with your busy and active family. You keep me motivated!

I'm wishing everyone a nice weekend!

PS I can't wait to see the new movie on Australia. I hear it's very romantic. I'm even looking forward to watching the sexiest man alive flexing his muscles. emoticon

Hello Girls!

Just got back from Thanksgiving dinner! It was good and I think I even did ok on my calories....I did my 5 miles yesterday and today.

The boys (as in the almost 50 year old boys) played their football game this morning!! The rain stopped before the game started. I have one very sore boy...it has been fun seeing everybody! I must really look different because it is the first thing anybody comments on! I know almost 60 lbs is a lot but I guess I still see myself as heavier than I am...

Healthy - It was so great meeting you in person!! You are so pretty….. It was so cute when we left my boys said "she is really smart" (I thought that would put a smile on your face) On the way to my friends house there was an accident on the 5 fwy and we were in dead stop traffic for an hour. That would have been ok but we were so busy taking pictures I forgot to visit the little girls room....I will leave the rest to the imagination ;-) I can't wait to see the pictures...although when I looked in the mirror after 15 hours in the car....yikes!!
Next time I come down we will have to get together so we can chat more.....Thank you for the journal! I love it!

Anika - Our Thanksgiving was great...lots of yummy food and that best part is we are having a repeat tomorrow at my friends house....nothing better than great company and good food!! I hope you figure out the bus thing soon! I also hope you have Patrick show you how to download the pictures too! I see your ticker went down a few more pounds!! I can’t wait to see an updated picture.

Jenny and Anastasia – Hope you are enjoying your vacations!!!

Happy Thanksgiving (you too Anika). We head back on Saturday morning….

good afternoon healthy! and happy thanksgiving to you! will you be having turkey today??
it is indeed still snowing here, and has been for the past 3 days, but just the light snow that doesn't stay on the ground for very long. the trips to and from the therapy centre are getting less and less fun. soon it will be bus time, but i'm trying to hold out as long as i can!
today i jogged 2 miles, and walked 2 miles.
yesterday i walked 3 miles, but i can't remember what my total was, so i'll have to look back and post again!

39/124 - 3 miles walking the L.A. Auto Show. That was fun! But I still haven't decided exactly which will be my new car. A little more research is in order. Kim recommends using an Auto Broker. Great idea! But I've never done that before, so I'm going to try to figure it out this weekend. Still raining in southern California.

Thanks, Anika! I'm going to be here over the holidays. I think it's just the 2 of us for a few days. I sure hope Anastasia got out to Thailand OK. I hear the airports are shutting down flights. And it's raining here in southern California, so Kim and her family had a wet drive down here. We had a really cool non-virtual meeting! More about that later.

Stay warm, Anika. Is it still snowing up there?

hi girls! i'm sure that all of you american ladies are gearing up for your big holiday, and i hope you've got exciting things planned!
i have had a CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY week so far, and i will fill you all in next week when everyone (hopefully!) hops back up on that wagon after a holiday weekend!
i have so much catching up to do!
i walked 3 miles sunday, 2 miles yesterday, and walked 5 miles today, so that brings me to
30 miles total.
i look forward to seeing everyone's updated pics, and i am going to ask patrick to show me how to load pictures next week so that i can post some new ones too!
this week i have to bake like crazy all week (i have 600 jumbo sugar cookies to make by next wednesday), and then i leave friday morning and will be gone until monday morning. i'm going to montreal (about 8 hour drive) to volunteer at a pet trade show to raise money for autism service dogs, so i will be out of contact until (somewhat!) normal life resumes next week!
i'll miss all of you and hope that you all have a fantastic holiday weekend!!!

G'day mates!!

I did my 5 miles this morning so I'm up to 50 miles already!! Tomorrow will be my rest day....I think there is something wrong with my head though because I was actually contemplating getting up at 3am and work out before we leave! lol!! that's a little sick in the head isn't it?????

Anastasia - I'm glad your headache is better! Where in CA did you say you live?

Healthy - I have a feeling it is going to be a slow week with Thanksgiving....

Anika - Now we are in your shoes with trying to stay on plan and all the yummy food. I hope you figured out the bus system this weekend. It is getting really cold here and it still isn't near what you are describing so my thoughts are with you...hang in there at least you know you have 4 little voices cheering you on.........

Jenny - I know your not going to read this till you get back but I wanted to say I hope you are having the time of your life!!

I will be MIA tomorrow since we will be enjoying a 17 hour drive to CA.

Take care!

G'day Everybody!

Ok...we have lost one of our mates for a few days to the open seas and sunshine...but it sounds like she is still going to be walking with us in Australia!!

I did my 5 miles this morning....I wear a pedometer everyday for a contest we have at work and it is kind of fun to know I have already done 9000 steps by 9am on a Sunday morning!!

I hit a solid 147 this morning....I don't know if I have told you before, but my Thanksgiving goal was 148. So I beat it by a pound and I still have till Thursday!

Healthy - good job on your exercise too! It is such a busy time for all of us and even though Anika doesn't do American Thanksgiving it sounds like she goes all out at Christmas!!

Anika and Anastasia - Hope you're are having a great weekend!!
