Well, I just looked up the weather in NYC and for the next several days, it will be beautiful - sunny and cool - perfect for a brisk walk. So, I'm taking the red-eye tonight. You might not want to sit next to me, just in case I snore! I'm a little worn out from this beach walking and will need my sleep to get ready for tomorrow's trek on the east coast. See you soon!

i'm so glad you like it jenny - think of me and how i'm in mourning because i can't use mine now:(
maybe the new ones are different, because i get a word of encouragement from paula radcliffe (british marathon star) every time i best my time/pace etc...
the first time she came on i jumped a mile, because i was so freaked out!

Isn't the IPOD thing cool! I am usually walking with a friend when I use it so I don't listen to the motivation part very often. I have never heard Lance Armstrong on it at the end...if it was Johnny Depp Anastasia would be walking 100 miles a day

I must have fallen asleep on the beach, there are so many posts since I was last here. Well 5 beautiful miles today, so I'm at 39/42. I can see you from here - are you the hot chicks with leis around your necks and tall drinks in your hands? See me waving? Can I place my order for a drink? woohoo - after a few days of feeling pretty crappy, i'm BACK!
i just jogged 4 miles and i can tell my pace has quickened because it took me 2 minutes less than usual (even without my little pace motivator!).
it looks like i'm going to have to wait until christmas for a new ipod, but that's life i guess!
that officially brings me to the beach!
i have completed 43/43.
now who wants cocktails????

wait for me girls... i'm coming (despite my disastrous bra issues & broken ipod!).
i didn't get a chance to log in again yesterday to say that i did another 4 mile jog. it's funny because i had music (i brought my 30 gig, clunky as it is), and i didn't have to push a stroller, but i still felt so so sluggish. i didn't realize just how much i depend on the pace reminder to keep me motivated. i figured it out that i check my pace almost once a minute to keep me honest, and that each time i check it i speed up a little to get the number up, and that is why i end up going so much faster. so i am really going to have to figure out how to get that motivation from another source...
so i'm at:
39/43
and i still have today's jog to log, so hopefully i will be joining you girls on the beach tonight, and of course we'll be cheering you on jenny as you'll be jogging in right after me, right?

Sorry about your IPOD. Too bad resetting it didn't work. The new Nano's look more like the old ones that were longer but the screen is longer and the colors are better. Any birthdays or holidays coming up anytime soon???????? I got one from Costco, because my son wanted his back. Have you seen the ITouch? I love that one but it is a lot bigger and I like the sensor. I also didn't really need all the features because I have a Palm Treo from work....

I have always felt the same way about Nike shoes but I found some that are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

That website that plots distance out sounds neat. A friend of mine told me about something like that.

I went to the gym tonight since I had an early appointment this morning that I had to drive 2-1/2 hours to get to.
I did 4 miles on the Elliptical.

Are we ready to start our new walk yet?? Did you look at the map? I know Anastasia did. If not I am happy to relax in the sun. We are supposed to get rain here by the weekend.

There is an easy way to track distance if your walking/running. You can go to googlepedometer and track where you walked. Its cool because when I'm adding a mile I can plan it out in advance.

i have the old style nano (the long one), and i got the nike + sensor for christmas. i love to wear nikes as fashion shoes (hey, i'm a jock, what can i say?!), but the are TERRIBLE for me for running. nikes fit narrow, and don't offer any arch support, and i have really pronated (flattened) arches, so i run in sauconys. but i got a little clip attachment that was really cheap (i think $10) and it houses the nike ipod sensor and clips it to my shoelaces. the program tracks my distance, pace, time, and you can set it to all sorts of different settings. i LOVE it. so i am really bummed because my husband looked at my ipod last night and even after running the troubleshooting diagnostic program from apple it still won't work. so i have another ipod (a gift from my husband that he wanted for himself but bought for 'me' heehee), the 30 gig (ironic because i only have like 80 songs on there ie. less than a gig), so i can listen to music but i can't track my distance or pace. so i am going for a jog this afternoon, and i will have to look at past workouts were i ran the same course and estimate my distance. booh.

Did you get the new IPOD Nano? I got the new purple one. The sensor doesn't track heart rate but it does track speed, distance, you can upload to the Nike website, and some other cool stuff. You can buy the sensor at most sporting goods store. They are supposed to be used with Nike+ shoes (you put the sensor in the shoe) and the IPOD Nano. If you don't like Nike shoes I've seen a little pouch attachment at BestBuy that you can attach to any shoe.

I've heard about e-mails getting dropped, but it hasn't happened to me yet. i think if you contact customer service they can fix it.

Did you get your ipod at Costco? Mine broke and I returned it there. They were great. They gave me the price of the old one which was just $30 shy of upgrading to the next one, so I did! Can you tell me about the one you were talking about that tracks your heart rate? That sounds cool!

thanks for your well-wishes girls...
if nothing else, at least i know that my (many!!) mishaps will hopefully help you all burn a few extra calories with some ab-crunching laughing!
i did not go out again (my poor boob couldn't handle the thought of being stabbed by a safety pin again), but at least i stayed on track with my eating.
i vow to start again fresh tomorrow, and to not let this strain of crummy luck get me down!
oh, and has anyone else stopped getting the daily spark e-mails by any chance? they stopped last friday, and i am missing my daily dose! any ideas on how i can start getting them again?

I just noticed that I didn't log in yesterday. I did 6 miles so I think I am at my destination! I did another 4 miles this morning.

I found a virtual walk for us. I hear New York is beautiful this time of year so I was browsing the internet and found a BATT to BEAR Walking trail. It is 53 miles. Here is a link to the PDF that shows the trail:

okay, so clearly fate hates me right about now...
as you can see by my post below i was already not in the best place mentally (and motivationally of course) after having gained 5 FREAKIN' pounds after only 2 meals of not watching what i ate, but apparently that wasn't enough for fate to laugh at.
so because i had posted that i would, i worked up my nerve to go out and jog to pick nolan up from therapy. and as i set off and try to get my ipod ready to track my miles i see that it isn't working at all. blank screen, frozen, not only won't track my miles but won't even play any music at all. i am the kind of girl who absolutely NEEDS music to motivate me to run. so i am already cursing and cross and contemplating walking instead of jogging when i hear a pop noise (which of course i can hear beause there is no music!!!) and look down to see that my left bra strap has completely snapped in half. now i don't think i have mentioned to you girls that my chest is INSANELY large. by that i mean that i was fitted properly last year at a specialty store and they informed me that i am an H cup. i didn't even know that boobs could be that big!! so i already have to jog with 2 sports bras (so as not to lose an eye of course!). so now i'm trying to jog (with no damn music!) while holding in my left boob and pushing the empty stroller... are you getting a mental image yet of how ridiculous i must have looked?!
but i perservered. i made it to the school and had to use 2 safety pins to re-attach my bra strap (and thankfully i wasn't stabbed on the way home by a pin!), and had to try and talk to nolan the whole way home to not die of boredom as i tried to plug along. so that's my story, and that's why i'm beginning to think that fate wants me to stay fat. well ha ha to you fate, you haven't gotten me yet!
so i can't log my exact distance, but since i was jogging for 40 minutes i'm going to have to estimate that it was about 3 miles, which will bring me to:

i hope that i have at least provided you girls with a good laugh!
have a great day - i was thinking of trying to make it out for another jog tonight to see what other tricks fate has up her sleeve for me next time!

hi girls! i should have logged in yesterday for motivation instead of baking a cake!!
i have a confession: i have fallen off of the wagon hard, and my butt is sore for all the wrong reasons.
weekends have always been my achilles heel, and they really got me this time.
i have the blessing/curse of losing and gaining weight at a ridiculous rate. so many people in the past have been downright bitter when they hear that i can drop 6 pounds in a week, and i try and tell them that thier envy is wasted on me... because yes, if i am extremely strict with my food and exercise like a crazy person i cand drop huge numbers, but conversely only 2 days of not exercising and eating what i want and i am up 5 freakin' pounds!!! how is that fair?!
i know that i have no one but myself to blame, but i have to admit to being bitter nonetheless!
so in the past this gain would have been enough to throw me right off course, and i would eat junk in protest, be bitter for a few weeks, and then wake up to realize that i gained all 40 lbs back and then have to start all over again.
but not this time!
i am rededicating myself to health (my own in particular!).
so i vow to get my (slightly bigger now!) butt in gear and lose those stupid 5 lb and then hopefully many more!
so i will jog today, and the next 4 days, and i will log my food and i will spark some positive feelings instead of feeling bitter and depressed.
so that is my vow (and my rant too i guess!).
so please help me stick to plan.
i am at 32 miles, and i am hoping to jog 3 this afternoon (there, i typed it, so i have to do it!).

Friday-Sorry I didn't post here yesterday my internet was going on and off all day....

I went 4 miles......I jogged on the sand (the wet part of course) Getting closer...only 8 more miles! I am off shortly to do another 4 miles...

Healthybiz....how about I give you a mile for yesterday??....then you can say you sat by the water and enjoyed the sand and surf!!! The 10 minutes of walking would have come from walking in and out of the water to cool off.....Today's a new day!!

Jenny...25 lbs...(of course it is close enough to count as 25....You could have always tried my favorite..scale ballet!! one toe off, one toe on, move it all around...that probably would have given you the other tenths of a pound anyway ;-) emoticon emoticon emoticon

Anika...Gray skies and sick...yuk! I'm still impressed you got a mile in...what motivation... Hang in there this weekend. Even if you use comfort food a little..get back on track..Log every bite..that will help. It doesn't mean you might not go over on calories but it will help you tomorrow or Monday to jump back on the train. You have lost almost 40 lbs so far (I know how good that feels) Go put on a pair of your old pants and tell us how it feels to see how BIG they are on you!!!

Imagine all of us sitting on the beach at the end of this journey. It will feel so great and there will be lots of sunshine...and good company too!!!!

Anastasia .. wow..when you get motivated you really get motivated..almost 7 miles...the cocktails will be waiting..the party can't start without you!! That's if you don't pass us up first!

No motivation today. Really feel like a slug. So... I'm going to borrow some from you folks today! I'm heading out to run some errands, all dressed for my walk and will end up at the gym and see how far I can get. Even if it's 10 minutes, I'm walking!

a very yucky, hot & gray rainy day here... i couldn't jog because nolan is sick, so no transportation necessary (i did push him in the stroller to the pharmacy & back to get advil), so i have a measly 1 mile walk to log. i am worried about my ability to keep from comfort eating this weekend. we are all sick, which means mommy gets no sleep (nolan doesn't do sick very well!), and in the past that would be an excuse to bake lots and make fatty comfort foods to eat. i am going to try and make some healthier comfort foods (i'm planning chili & beef stew), but i don't know how i'm going to get any exercise in.
i hope that i don't throw away all my hard work over 5 weekdays with a few bad weekend days...
