I'm trying to adopt this approach on an ongoing basis. I'm afraid one day I'll be near a really good thrift store and cave in, buying everything in sight! But so far, so good - it's been a few months now.

This is a good goal for September and every month. If I'm not buying things I don't need, I will have more money for paying bills and saving.

Hi Vannie, good strategy to throw one out for each one you buy. I definitely know what you mean about the knives! Maybe time to declutter my kitchen drawer, too.
Barb, I love thrift stores also. I buy mostly used books but also find other things which I don't need, but are nice to have from baking pans to tin boxes to paintings which I never decide where to actually hang up. I would like to put an end to this habit because I'm afraid if I continue like this, I would clutter my house before long.

I am with you on that, however, I really do need new pots and pans BUT when I buy them, I will get rid of my old burned out pots and pans immediately. Last month I bought a knife rack, I have hung it and have my knives there. After buying and hanging, I realized if I had just cleaned out my kitchen drawer, so much odd stuff emoticon this purchase would not have been necessary, still the knives do look nice, I wash and return a knife to the rack as soon as I have used it.

I agree to no unneeded purchases in September.

Vannie

I have been buying less things for the last couple of months...also when I do get new (or new to me--I shop thrift shops/garage sales), I put the same # of things I buy in a box to give away...Most of the time I usually give more.

I dread my closets - my clothes, shoes, accessories flowing over. I have lots of different sizes from growing bigger and bigger but still I think I have too much.

Let's not buy anything we don't need in September.
My weak point is clothing but it can be anything - clothing, body lotions, home decor, kitchen gadgets, the newest miraculous exercise equipment, or yet another stuffed elephant for the children...

If we are going to fight clutter, we might as well get to the root of it! Else we'll just keep adding throwing stuff to the declutter pile.

What say you? Are you with me?
