Thanks, everyone! My mom's procedure today was just an endoscopy to figure out what's going on. She has developed a hernia that is acting like a second stomach. They will have to go in and fix it later. For some reason, all these complications make it extremely difficult for her to digest vegetables and proteins. Because she can't digest them, she frequently vomits, and because of what's going on with the hernia and her esophagus, she could wind up getting vomit in her lungs. She can only digest carbs and simple sugars. So, yeah, you can imagine how difficult weight loss has been... The moral of the story is, don't skip your follow-up appointments, kids. She's really mad at herself because she missed those appointments because she couldn't afford them. But now she REALLY can't afford to have another surgery, but she certainly can't afford to not do it. She's making and selling Christmas wreaths and will be setting up another GoFundMe. She has Medicare, so she's only looking at needing something like $650, but it's still a lot of money.

Christi: I agree with Mona. Diplomatically bring it up with a supervisor, and do it the right way for your shift... I'm very detail-oriented, too, and I've switched up major stuff during my first week on a job more than once. Co-workers are usually just completely surprised that it could have been done a better way... I overhauled a filing system once, and in my current job, I completely arranged how supplies are stored.

Mona: Definitely make an appointment to see your doctor! And that's a great reason to see your doc... You get to tell him that you've made lifestyle changes, and it's working! Get in there quick. Low blood sugar can be really dangerous. Keeping your husband in prayer, too. Hope y'all get some answers soon.

If anyone is interested in exchanging Christmas cards this year, please use SparkMail to send me your address!

I am feeling slightly more Christmassy today. The mornings have been in the mid 30s lately (highs near 75), so morning is a good time for me. My fiance and I went Christmas shopping when he got off work this morning. And when I took my dog out for an early walk, we could hear our town clock tower. During the holidays, it chimes with Christmas carols.

Happy Wednesday, y'all!

Yikes! That is a low blood sugar. Mine drops low especially after exercise but I am not on any meds. Prayers you can stop meds and also for your husband.

Shirley much prayers for you and your husband as you adjust to an adult child returning to your nest. Prayers that your son finds his footing again and is able to put the divorce behind him and that he is able to find a little loft or apartment that is close by that is in his budget.

Allie love the Christmas memes emoticon . I agree having little ones around would definitely be a blessing and bring you to the Holidays. I don't see me having grandkids for the next decade enforcement get a little jealous that all my friends are already Grandmas!!!

Mermaid how has your mom done with the WLS?

Sonia love your happy cherry grandma pics!!! I am see the love and not radiating from you emoticon .
Laura how are you adjusting to be back from your big trip? Is this the first Christmas since your Mom and brother passed? Much thought and prayers for You.

What a great group! I look forward to getting to know you better in 2020!

Mermaid, prayers for your mom! Health issues are always difficult but so much more so during the Christmas season!

Christi, it's so hard to start a new job and see "issues." I would speak to a supervisor and tell her your concerns...and I'd start my own sheet on the side to track your work! Protect yourself!!

Christmas trees....oh the memories...cedar trees dragged into the house and lights not working and mom making me cut strips of cotton to glue on the scratchy tree limbs so it looked like snow (!!!)....and allergies! Took me 20 years to know that I'm allergic to those real Christmas trees!!! Got married and we had a small artificial tree and for the first time in years, I wasn't sick at Christmas! What a nice relief to find out the cause of my annual Christmas illness! LOL!!! Anyway, hubby and sons have to have a Christmas tree up (I'm content with my villages, Angel Cheeks and ceramic trees) so hubby is putting up the artificial tree as I type.

Speaking of my sweet dh, please keep him in your prayers. We will be making numerous trips to the V.A. for tests/scans to determine what is wrong. There are several things they are looking for and if I had to pick one for it to be, it would be kidney stones...but he has no pain, unlike before. I think the doctor suspects something worse but I'm not focusing on those thoughts!

I have decided that it is in the best interest of my family to not make a bunch of candy and cookies this year...we don't need them. I do plan to make some applesauce-cinnamon bread to hand out as gifts and I'm sure one loaf will stay here. I will have to make one batch of peanut butter fudge or hubby might leave me...but I'll wait until a couple of days before Christmas! As for Christmas dinner with the sons, I plan to make a Christmas cake roll and send it home with them!!

I think I'm going to have to talk to my doctor...following the better way of eating is keeping my blood sugar down (I'm pre-diabetic). DH had to make a dash to the kitchen for me yesterday when I was feeling pretty yucky, checked my level and it was 58!! Yikes!!! That's the lowest it's gone. Hopefully I'll get more weight off and get off of the medication!!

Hope I haven't bored you all. It's just so good to be able to reach out! Blessings to all in the group!!

I am my biggest hurdle but now I'm ready to jump higher!

Sounds like everyone is in the same way about Christmas this year. I haven't even decorated yet. I did manage to send a few Christmas cards out. It is hard when you would like to spend money on presents, but feel you should not because of finances. I wish things were better in this world. It takes the joy out of Christmas.

Shirley, you are so lucky to have a little one for Christmas. It brings so much more joy to see the magic in their eyes. My brother and his wife moved to Savannah last month. How far away is that from you and Sonia? I love snow globes too. I have one with a polar bear and cub in it that I got 2 Christmases ago. It has rainbow lights in it and the base looks like a birch tree. I keep it on my dresser and sit there and look at it during the year.

Christi, so glad to hear things are going well on your new job. Perhaps you can go to whom ever is in charge and let them know of the discrepancies. That way they can decide what to do. You must be getting excited to have Jake back again. So glad for him losing the extra pounds.

Mermaid, I know what you mean about cookies. I am thinking of not baking this year. I do it for others, but sometimes it seems that it is not appreciated for all the work that goes into it. I end up eating a lot myself, so why bother. I have taped a lot of Hallmark movies, but have only watched 2. Just not that into Christmas. Maybe I should be watching them to get my Christmas spirits up. I almost feel like the Grinch. How did your mom make out with her procedure?

Mona, how is your husband doing. I hope things are better.

Sonia, Hope you are doing well on that treadmill. I wish I was more motivated to exercise. My treadmill will have to be put up so I can put my Christmas tree up. Our living room is very small. Are you ready for Christmas? Bet you will be happy to be around your grand daughter in the coming years. I love to see kids who believe in Santa.

Momma P. , Hope you are doing well. We all miss you so.

Lori, Where are you? I have been thinking of you and hoping you are doing well.

Richard and Bry, Hope you fellas are doing well.

Laura, I hope you are doing well. Haven't heard from you in awhile. You must have a bunch of snow by now. Are you ready for Christmas? Have you been out with your friends lately? Let us know how you are doing.

Well I better go for now. Hope you all have a great day.

emoticon

Wish I. would have cut some cotton stalks before it was all picked!!!

I am getting on pretty good at my new job. Been training this week and will be on my own Saturday and Sunday. I am a bit OCD with accounting and the younger Secretary who started in April has not been. She is pregnant and honestly I don't think she will make it to her one year mark. There is no daily beginning and ending balance for petty cash etc. I don't want to come in and start questioning how they do things but it is pretty shotty accounting.
We keep up with staff lunch money and resident spending money. It took me less then 2 days to realize that weekend and evening meal money was missing and has apparently been missing since July or August???? Being the "new" person not sure how to navigate everything yet.

I know how you feel Mermaid about Christmas. I'm from Northwest Ohio so there was always snow, the lake would be frozen so we could ice skate, there was the perfect hill nearby for sledding. Christmas was fun. Now I live in Georgia and it never feels like Christmas. One year we had to turn our air conditioner on during Christmas dinner! I'm usually a bit bah humbug for many reasons but this year I'm doing better, I guess it's because of my granddaughter. We are going to put up our tree while she's here this weekend. It's so much fun to have Christmas with a little one.

What a great idea for your aunt's present!

I usually skip the store bought cookies the vendors bring in. If I'm going to cheat I'd rather have something really good.

Hope things go well with your mom's procedure today. I will say a prayer for both of them.

I'm caught up at work. It's going to be a long day!

It just doesn't feel Christmassy yet. Weather is cool-ish, got my tree up, still need to set out the nativity, and I'm listening to Christmas music and burning my Christmas candles. But it just doesn't feel right yet. Frustrating... I have barely started my major shopping. I've been building a Bath & Body Works basket for my aunt all year. She adores one particular fragrance, so any time I got a free item coupon this year, I've gotten something for her. That's really all I have so far!

My Thanksgiving weight gain is already gone. I knew it would be okay as soon as I got back to my usual routine. I'm taking a "wide path" approach to my food for this month. I want to allow myself seasonal treats, but I want to make sure they're worth it. There was a cookie tray at work today, but they were all store bought. I appreciate the thought, but I can get a store bought cookie all year long. I'm holding out for the special, homemade, rare treats!

My mom is having a procedure tomorrow to explore/fix some complications from her WLS that was earlier this year. Please keep her and my dad in your prayers.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Mona, so sorry to hear about your husband's health issues. I will be praying for both of you.
I've been doing a lot of stress eating lately too.

Alley, thanks so much for the pep talk. I felt like you were talking about me. I needed that today.

Christi, how's the new job going? Do you just work on the weekends or during the week as well?
It is really hard when children go off to college. It's gut wrenching every time they leave. Been there. Treasure every minute you get. I still miss my youngest son, the oldest one is driving me crazy right now.

You're doing great Mermaid and Sonia! Keep pushing!

Sonia, how's your new car? The baby? The puppy?

I am done with Christmas shopping. Makes me a happy person! Now to get presents wrapped. We will have our granddaughter again this weekend, we are going to put up the tree. She's so excited. I also need to write Christmas cards. I didn't give out our new address when we moved. My bad.

DS goes to Dr. today, thank goodness. The meds he's on are not working well. Hopefully the Dr. can get him back on track. I gave him a to-do list for this week and he actually worked on it yesterday. I feel like I have a teenager living with me again. I'm not liking it.

The one thing that I love about Christmas is my musical snow globes. They are all Christmas themed. I love putting them out. I have quite the collection. My dh bought me a red cardinal one this year. Reminds me of my dad, he's been gone 2 years now and I am really struggling with it right now. It's funny how you can be going along so well and then all of the sudden it hits you like a punch in the stomach. I guess it's because it's the holidays.

I have finally caught up a bit with everyone.

Christy - I am so excited for you and your new job! Not only is Jacob becoming a new man, you are also becoming a new person and spreading your wings. This is great. I am happy for and proud of both of you.

Shirley- I am terribly sorry for all of the stress involving your son. No matter how old they are, they are always our babies and we worry about them.

Alley- GREAT JOB on revamping, especially on a holiday week! Super proud of you!

Mona- Prayers for the hubby and you and hoping that life calms down.

Mermaid- Even with this week's gain, you have lost over 50 pounds this year!!! We have been here a very long time and it really has been our most successful year. I continue to be amazed at you and how you keep bouncing back! Thanks for sharing your pep talk, we all needed it.

Have you noticed how it seems like every time we get down as a group or lose our motivation, one of us brings the others back on track or a new member joins us and gets us all going. WE ARE A WONDERFUL FAMILY!

2019 is shaping up to be a great year for us and we can and will finish strong!

On a note, I'm not going to beat myself up...things in my house have been NUTS this week!!
Please keep my dh in your prayers as the V.A. tries to determine what's going on his health.

Weigh In: 310.9
Previous Weigh-In: 315.9

I am trying harder to get this weight down. I feel better today. With the weight I have gained, I have been having a lot of pain. It is funny how you forget how much pain you were in as you are losing, but as soon as you gain 10 to 15 pounds it all comes back to you. Is pigging out really worth it? Those few minutes of pleasure compared to pain, discomfort and discuss? Why do we kill ourselves this way? I feel like I will never grow up and do the right thing for myself. I have got to change my thinking and do what is right for me. I need to take my frustrations to the treadmill instead of the refrigerator. Are you with me?

I hope my little pep talk has given you some motivation to keep moving forward. I love you my friends.

Have a great week.

Week 48:
Weigh-In: 281 lbs.
Change: +3 lbs.

I was rather proud of myself because Thanksgiving Day I did really well and out of the whole pie I had one piece. As for the gain I know the problem is stress! I'm eating my way through it unfortunately. I had fun with my granddaughter though. I took her to the hair salon Friday to get the full treatment. She got her hair washed and dried, a trim and french braids. She really enjoyed the attention. She wouldn't let me take it down yesterday. I decided that's a battle for her mom. She got a stomach virus, I wasn't feeling well either so we just stayed home and didn't do much of anything.

Nothing new here! Looking forward to Christmas Break and extended time off from work. It's always so hard to come back to work though.

Last week 319.2
This week 319.5 (+0.3)

Mermaid, THANK YOU!!! I did need to read your post!!! Small gain but I am going to take it as a victory. emoticon
Jacob was home and we had Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. emoticon
I had orientation Monday and was going to train Tuesday and Wednesday but the State came in for an inspection and they had just installed a new computer system. Everyone was trying to pull up files and get stuff the State people were requesting. Not a good time to train a new person. With the Holiday they asked if I would mind starting this Monday. I am looking at it as a blessing. I got to spend time with Jacob, enjoyed the Holiday and the big State Visit is out of the way and will not be looming over everything.
emoticon emoticon emoticon December brings my Birthday and Christmas as well as Christmas break for Jacob. He will be home for just 2 weeks. He is going back like the 2nd or 3rd of January. I thought the BIG drop off in August was going to be the hardest but I was kind of prepared for that. The short little visit and saying goodbye again and again is almost just as hard. He is changing and becoming his own man more and more. All in all he has lost 30 pounds. His clothes are hanging on him and he doesn't care. Another notch in the belt and all is good. He doesn't like to shop but he is going to have to do it anyway when he comes home again. I would love to go through his clothes and take the overly big stuff out but he is an Adult and he probably is not going to let me do that.
emoticon Hope the first week of December is good to everyone!!!

'Twas the night before weigh-in...

I am writing this to psyche myself up for weighing in tomorrow, and also to encourage all of you who may be dreading the scale this week. Maybe you handled the holiday really well, or maybe you were more like me, and your plan went kaput and you made more poor decisions than healthy ones...

The holiday is over. The week is over. The month is over. Today is a fresh start! There are three whole weeks until Christmas, and you still have time to meet your goal. And even if you don't, you've come a long way. (Even if you've gained weight this year... I bet you've learned more this year, and you're ready to put those lessons to good use.) So get on the scale on your weigh-in day, and record that number. It's just a number. If you managed to lose weight during the week of Thanksgiving, that's amazing, and you should be really proud! And no matter how much you gained this week, just get back to your routine. Don't throw in the towel for the rest of the year. It's not about the scale. It's about how you FEEL. And you'll feel better when you're eating your usual healthy foods and drinking your usual amounts of water. That's what matters the most. You owe it to yourself to get back on track and do good things for your body.

I hope my pre-weigh-in pep-talk helped... I am expecting to gain anywhere between 3 to 7 pounds this week. And it wasn't even Thanksgiving that got me, it was the days after! I had a plan, and I didn't keep to it. I feel absolutely awful. My body hurts, and I know an epic migraine is on the way. But I wanted to post about it because I'm sure I'm not the only one who made a ton of poor choices this week, and I really needed to give myself a pep-talk... I will not skip weigh-in tomorrow. Tomorrow is my fresh start. Actually, no, RIGHT NOW is my fresh start. I can decide right now that I am back on track. I will get ready for bed, and I will prepare myself to have a successful Sunday. It begins NOW.

I love you, SparkFriends. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. And if you were like me and you had way too many indulgences, it's okay. You're not alone. We're all in this together, and we can do this!

And if you lost weight this week, you should automatically get Star of the Week! And I'm totally jealous, but also really proud of you!

Mona, Flash is such an adorable puppy. He's just too cute!!!

What a small world right Mona and Sonia? Whoever thought that you would both end up on the same spark team?

I'm hanging in there but could sure use more prayers. My ds flipped out again yesterday because the divorce lawyer wanted him to pay her the rest of the money he owes her. He doesn't have any money. He comes up short at the end of each month. Him and his soon to be ex racked up a lot of bills when they were married. Unfortunately the day they went to court there was a temporary judge filling in so the only thing he really did was set child support which is affordable thankfully, gave her temporary custody and all the bills that were to be split between the two of them landed in my ds's lap. So now he's behind and overwhelmed. I'm trying to pay some of his bills for him but wow I don't know how much more I can do. I'm not sleeping at night. All I do is worry. Thanks for letting me vent. I just wish he can catch a break. He's going to have to file bankruptcy but those lawyers are super expensive.

Today is my last day of work, I'm so thankful. I just want to catch up on my sleep. I didn't think we would get my granddaughter until late in the day tomorrow but it turns out that ds is picking her up when he gets off work which could be around noon from her other grandma's house. Tomorrow I was going to clean house, catch up on laundry and start prepping and cooking food. Hopefully I'll have enough energy tonight to get some stuff done.

I'm missing Mama P. too. I hope she's okay.

I guess I should get busy.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm so grateful for this team and everyone on it. You all keep me going. emoticon

Prayers for all of us! This time of year is not so festive for some of us and the added stress makes it hard to pretend it's all good, when it isn't. This group is so supportive...it's our/my soft place to land without judgement. I am thankful!

Hi All,
Love the Winnie the Pooh graphic...Man, can I ever relate!

We had our early Thanksgiving with the kids yesterday. It was a weird day, but always good to get all 3 "kids" (28,25,25) together. Ate turkey & all the fixings and played some games.

The only downside is that leaves hubby & I to fend for ourselves on the actual Thanksgiving. We're going to my sisters assisted living facility for brunch. She is estranged from her 2 kids, so the holidays are super-tough for her. Her traumatic brain injury/memory loss make the next couple months very hard for her to get through & make it tough to be around her.

It's also the first holiday season since my brother and mom passed away. I'm trying to start NEW traditions, to keep from falling into a deep funk. Winters in Minnesota can be miserable & trying to adjust to the loss of family sure doesn't help it any.

On the plus side, I've had very little appetite lately. I know, long-term, that might not be good, but I'll ride the tide and enjoy the benefit of it while it lasts!

LOVE the puppy pic! My fur-baby is a Doberman mix & starting to slow down a little. He's only 6.5 yrs old, but developing some aches & pains.

Hope you all have a great holiday week!

Yep..we're about 20 minutes from each other! When I read Sonia's profile, something made me ask her "where do you live" and bam...it really is a small world!

Flash is a BAGLE....1/2 beagle and 1/2 basset hound and now owns at least part of my heart! He's 6 weeks old so he's going to the vet today. He had fleas so he wasn't too happy when Nana gave him a bath in Dawn and warm water on Saturday but he was glad to get rid of the fleas! Then I warmed a towel and he snuggled under my chin and was a very content puppy. And yes, he will have a stocking this Christmas too! LOL!!!

I am my biggest hurdle but now I'm ready to jump higher!

OH MY! Flash will need a playdate with my wild beagle, Claytor.

For those of you who don't know, Mona and I actually went to the same high school and live pretty much in the same town (close to it)!!! We plan on meeting in person at some point to exercise together.

Week 7
Weigh-in: 292
Change: - 3 lbs.
Total loss - 15 lbs.

Good morning, everyone! A new week for all of us and omgosh it's going to be crazy here! A lot of challenges to face...maybe i should super glue my mouth shut!! Lol!!

We'll be having the traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday with my 2 sons. DH cooks the turkey and makes his famous dressing and I do the veggies and salads. My older son is bringing a carrot cake. We're not having to do two meals this year - 1 step-son is working and his job caters in a big meal to all who work and the other step-son is cooking his own turkey this year (we bought it for him).

My youngest son is here visiting this week so ya'll pray for my sanity and strength. I'm not sure he's taking his meds as his attitude has been crappy....

My older son got his puppy on Saturday and I'm proud to say I'm Nana to him! OMGOSH he has stolen my heart!! He is just what Jeff needs after losing his sweet dog, Max. Like any proud Nana, I'll be attaching the picture of "FLASH'.

The youngest g'daughter played in the State Volleyball Tournament on Saturday and they won the Class 1 State Championship! Go Auburn! Lady Eagles Rule! I had no voice left after that competition!!! My alumni school played for the Class 2 State Championship right afterwards and they also won so we have two State Champions in our little area! Go Bobcats too!

Remember the quilts? My brothers have decided they don't want to exchange gifts this year so I don't have to kill myself getting them finished! Now I'm going to focus on simpler things like pillows, hanging dish towels and I'm going to make me a gnome throw! I'll just put their quilts away for their birthdays in 2020.

I'm so thankful that I'm part of this group! Win or loose...we're ALL winners in my book! Keep sparkling and I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Glad to see you are doing well. The play was very nice. We went out for dinner afterwards. We got the rest of the outdoor work done for this season. Now we just have Christmas lights to put up. We do it for our own enjoyment since we are the last house on a dead end road.

Glad to see the losses this week. I only wish I was one of them.

Hope you are all have a good Thanksgiving.

Jacob did finally come home yesterday but headed back bright and early Friday morning. He has plans with friends then last football game and hence last band performance against Tennessee on Saturday.

He has lost 30 pounds since August. Walking everywhere he has also built up muscles. His clothes are really hanging off him but he says that shopping can wait until Christmas break. It would be nice to know what size to buy so maybe I could buy a few things for Christmas.

Job starts tomorrow!!! I will be the Weekend Receptionist/Secretary/Office personal at the Nursing home. Basically answering the phones and keeping up with residents accounts. I hope that a regular schedule and steady source of income helps to balance me up. Relief of a bit of stress so I can maybe get back to tracking and hopefully losing again. I would love to loose during the holidays. I don't know if that is possible but I do think I can maintain and not gain any more. New Year New Start is my train of thought. Jacob will be back for a couple of weeks at Christmas and my focus is Family and Memories.

Mermaid, Sonia, Laura, Lori what a fantastic Year. Mona wonderful start and glad You have found us! Shirley, I think You are going through as many life changes as I am. Adjusting to a new path is not always easy. So thankful your son is doing better. Allie, Richard we are going to find our stride again!!! I know we can all do it!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Week emoticon

My week is looking to be pretty low key. I work just today and tomorrow. Getting my nails done on Wed morning and then getting to babysit for about 10 hours so I cannot wait!

Thanksgiving is very calm for us these days. I really have no family that I am close with. My parents are both deceased and my brother and I do not get along at all (he just finished a stint in rehab), my bf's daughter just moved to Colorado and he is going to be working everyday but Thursday. He and I will cook a turkey and just a couple of sides and really not do much at all. I love to watch the parade and then it will probably be Christmas movies.
I plan to share some of the food we cook with a friend who just became separated and doesn't have much family either.

This weekend I plan on putting up some decorations and doing some shopping.

Have a great Monday everyone and I am definitely including each and every one of you one my list of things to be thankful for!!!

Week 47
Weigh-In: 279 lbs.
Change - 0 lbs.
YTD: - 5 lbs.

Happy Monday everyone! I'm feeling blah too. I woke up feeling kind of achy. Maybe it's because I only have to work 2 days this week? I'm so ready for a break. It hasn't helped that I've been waking up every morning at 2 am wide awake.
I suffer from SAD every year. It's really hard. Last year I just decided I didn't want to do Christmas, but at the last minute I decided to do it for my granddaughter. I'm glad I did because she was super excited about all the presents under the tree. This year I'm kind of looking forward to it. My ds will get her on Christmas Day but it'll be in the evening. I guess we'll open presents then. I know she won't want to go to bed. :)

Mermaid, thanks for asking about my ds, he's doing much better. It's nice to see him happy and smiling.

My plan for Thanksgiving is to enjoy the food I only have once a year, not to overdo it and make new memories. When I was doing Weight Watchers many years ago the leader told us one year not to focus on the food but focus on making memories. I always try to come away with a memory. I'm cooking for the first time in years. We're having turkey and fixings and pumpkin pie. The pumpkin pie is all that my dh cares about! I'm excited about having my granddaughter for 4 days, I know I'll be exhausted on Sunday night.

Christi, I know you're happy to have Jacob home this week. Cherish the time because it'll just fly by. How's your new job? What are you going to be doing? Have you started yet?
No admins are here this week just me and two other secretaries. I have plenty to do that's for sure.

Is everyone getting ready for Thanksgiving? What are your strategies? What's on the menu?

We are ordering the smaller meal from Cracker Barrel this year, to help minimize leftovers. I will be baking a pumpkin pie and and a dutch apple pie. We'll eat Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday night, and then Thursday, my mom will probably make a vegetable-based soup, and we'll get together to watch football. My plan is to limit Thanksgiving to ONE meal, on ONE day. (I'll allow leftover pie on Thursday!) What are y'all doing? Any travel plans?

Hi Everyone.

Mermaid, congrats on the Star of the Week. I am struggling with the "every day" bad habits. I just can't seem to get my groove on.

Christi, I am a pooh bear too. I don't even have to wait until there is a grumbly in my tumbly. ha ha

Shirley, so glad that you are going to have fun with your grand daughter. How is your son making out?

I am going to a play at the Imperial Theater in Saint John to see A Christmas Carol. I can't wait. I love that show on tv. It is a must for me to watch the old Christmas Carol movie when it comes on tv. I like the one with Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart,

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Thanks, everyone. I don't feel like I deserved Star of the Week. I'm still struggling. Have been for awhile now. The scale is showing a loss for this week, so far, but I just feel very blah, and honestly, I'd rather feel better than lose two pounds! But I guess you gotta take a loss when you can get it. I'll remind myself of this in a few weeks, when I feel good and do everything right and still gain... Sometimes, your body just does whatever it wants. I am reminded of a quote that has been attributed to lots of people: What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while. (The sentiment has been used by several people. That particular wording is from Gretchen Rubin.) The trick for me, right now, is to keep my "once in a while" bad habits from turning into "every day" bad habits.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Get your Thanksgiving grocery shopping done quickly. Stores will be packed all next week!

Christi, cute cartoon. I have all of Pooh's traits! Winnie the Pooh is my favorite children's book.

Only two more days of work and then I'm done until Dec. Yikes! Time is flying by. The only person I have bought Christmas presents for is my granddaughter. LOL! I can't wait for Christmas, she's going to love her toys. It's going to be really fun.

I'm really excited because next week we'll have her from Wed. night until Sunday night. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to cook a big Thanksgiving meal with her underfoot. She loves to help cook. Hoping to get a lot of it done or prepped on Wed. emoticon

Christi! Best news ever! emoticon emoticon Congratulations on your new job, when do you start? I'm so happy for you!

Alley, that first paragraph you wrote sums up my year too. I hope next year is better for you, me and anyone else struggling. I'm having problems with my thyroid, we are still trying to find the right dosage, it's making losing weight twice as hard.

I can't believe next week is Thanksgiving already! Time is flying by. I was hoping I wouldn't have to cook but I'm going to have to. I bought a turkey this past weekend, one year I waited too late and the stores were out of turkeys! I don't know what else we're going to have. My ds gets his dd the day before Thanksgiving and will have her through the weekend. I'm excited but she's a bit picky so I'm trying to think of some things she'll eat other than chicken nuggets and mac & cheese.

Hi Everyone,

According to my goal, I have 6 weeks to lose 21.7 pounds. I wonder if this is possible. I feel like this year was a bust for me. I have not tried as hard as I should have. Let me take the last 6 weeks and see what I can do.

Congratulations Christi on the new job. You are so lucky. I wish I could get a Secretary position again. I know you will do a great job.

Shirley,. I'm so glad your son is doing better.

Sonia, You will do better this week. I have faith in you.

Congratulations on the losses this week.

Gainers- Try harder. I know we all can finish this year stronger than ever. We can do this.

Yeah, Christi! I'm so happy for you on the new job. Congrats on getting out there & succeeding. Best of luck on your latest adventure!

Sonia,
Your Nana pics on FBook are precious! What a blessing!

Shirley,
So sorry to hear about your son. It's so hard to watch a loved one struggle like that. My family has lots of depression/anxiety issues. I've had to put my sis on 72-hour watch a couple times. Leaving her in the facility is very tough, but I know she's getting the help she needs. Keeping your son (& you!) in my prayers for strength & healing.

Mermaid,
You are on a roll! Great job! I'll bet you're pumped in be doing so well.

Richard,
Love the funny! Always nice to be able to get a chuckle from our journey.

SLVRSNOOZ---I had a similar issue with junk this week. I went to the Dollar Store when I was hungry...BIG mistake! The crappy (cheap!) junk food was too hard to resist. Once I bring that stuff into my house, I'm a goner! Too much salt & crap showed up on the scale with a small gain. More than that, I feel so sluggish, after eating cleaner and healthier lately.
Lesson learned...I talked hubby into putting it in his car & taking to work.

I was running a loss all week (YES, I'm a daily weigher!), but since today is my official weekly, I'm going to own my gain & move forward.

Prior YTD = -42.4
Curr week = + .6
New YTD = -41.8

Let's all ROCK THIS WEEK!

Laura

Week 6
Weigh-in: 295
Change: - .8 lb.

If I have to say anything to myself, it's "own it, girl" because I experimented this week and learned a valuable lesson! The QUALITY of the food that I put in my mouth, even though I track it, shows just how it isn't good for me on weigh-in day! I tracked every bite and sometimes went over my 1200 calories mark but I didn't always eat healthy food...some of that food was junk. I'm thankful there was a small loss but this morning I feel sluggish and not energized and my body is screaming for better choices. I want to be healthy and feel good, but only I can control what I feed my body and exercise. LESSON LEARNED...this junk train is now de-railed...

Best of luck to all of my team sparkers this week! I am so thankful to all of you!

Ugh! Actually I was surprised it wasn't more after being on steroids and the stress of last week.
Hopefully this week will be better.

Thanks for the prayers for my ds. Thank goodness he was released Friday afternoon, and went back to work today. He's doing somewhat better. He has high and low moments, I'm more aware of his moods, he says during his down times he's just feeling overwhelmed. We had a good talk. He's staying with us for the moment. At least he now knows what triggers his rage. Those few days in the facility were good for him. I'm trying to help out with bills and stuff. I just keep praying!

Richard, thanks for the funny cartoon. I needed a laugh today. Hope things are going well for you.
Hope everyone has a good Monday. Both of the secretaries called in sick so that leaves me and the two admins today. Going to be a very quiet day.

Shirley, Prayers for your family. I battled "BIG" depression on and off my entire life. It does seem impossible for some hurts to heal. Especially the emotional ones. I think that age and time have taught me to let go of some things and find peace with other things.

I felt the job interview went well. They still have 3 more interviews Monday and I should hear something next week. Fingers crossed because this would take care of a whole lot anxieties. Financial stability again would be nice as well as having something to get me out of the house. I tend to ball up and zone out if I can get away with it.

Happy Friday everyone!

Thanks for making me star of the week Sonia. I needed that boost.

Christi, I so hope things go well for your job interview today. I'm sending you lots of good vibes and lots of prayers. Just be yourself!

What a week, it's been a nightmare. My ds tried to hurt himself Tuesday and was taken to the hospital, he was admitted into a mental health facility an hour away from us on Wed. evening. Hopefully they'll release him tomorrow into my care. He suffers from depression, anxiety and is bipolar. He's been on meds and has been doing great. I think hitting rock bottom and spending a few days there has been helpful. He called me a few times yesterday and sounds so much better. He's never acted like this until this year. His soon to be ex took their daughter and moved two hours away, it's nearly killed him. He got left with a lot of debt from their marriage, the judge is making him pay, she's paying nothing. Leaving him there Wed. night was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. It's just heartbreaking to see him like this.

My eating is out of control. I think we have both had a wake up call this week. I really need to take better care of me. I need to be here for him, my dh and granddaughter. If you could say a prayer for him I'd appreciate it.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm just hoping that things will be better next week.

Hi All,
I need to get my head back in the game. The super-cold weather (& dreaded SNOW!) really have me in a funk this week. All I want to do is sleep. I guess the UP side is that I usually want to eat everything in sight & this year, I have little appetite.

Sorry I missed the weekly check-in earlier this week. I'm reading thru to catch up on how all of you are doing.

Seems like a lot of us are struggling. I'm focusing on BACK to BASICS.

This week, it has really just been getting my water in. When it starts to get cold & the heat is on everywhere, my whole body (skin, etc) dries out so bad. I've been using "True Lime" Watermelon drink packets, when I get tired of plain water. I really like the flavor & it helps keep me hydrated.

Christi,
I love your Diet vs. Health chart. I'm trying hard to re-frame my thinking...looking at weight loss as a by-product of healthier choices rather than the end result.

Moving my body more & resisting the urge to hunker down & veg are going to be key to a successful winter for me. We have vacation plans in AZ in February & I hope to be able to hike a bit with my hubby. He is in MUCH better shape than me, so I know he'll want to do a lot more active things than I can. but it would be fun to join him for part of it.

I had another loss this week. Looking back, I think I'm at my lowest weight in close to 10 years. Just have to resist the urge to get cocky & back-pedal. That's my usual...sabotage myself when I get some momentum going.

Must get back to work! Happy Thursday to you all.

Laura

Hovering around 317+/- I can really feel the gain in my knees especially with the colder weather.
emoticon I keep getting kicked off the notifications for this thread emoticon .
emoticon I could use some prayers and a whole lot of positive vibes. Tomorrow I have an interview for the weekend Secretary/Receptionist job at the local nursing home. I really just need part time and this sounds stable and more reliable than subbing at the school.
emoticon Mermaid, I really need to get back to blogging 100 days. Hopefully if I get the new job it will help boost my confidence. I know that tracking, blogging and checking in and getting support daily is important to me and helps keep me in line. Problem is that once you miss a day and loose a streak it is easy to just keep starting over. I had a 450 day streak. Tracking and checking in every day! No Excuses!! Now, I can't make it a week. I matter. I can do it. If I tracked for 450 days once I can do not again.
emoticon Day 1 again!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Rainy, windy and in the hour it took to get to get to work the temp dropped 10 degrees! It's supposed to continue to drop today and end up in the 20s tonight. Hopefully we'll remember to drip the faucets tonight.

Last week weigh-in: 279
This week weigh-in: 277
Weight lost: - 2 lbs.
Yay!

I'm finally starting to feel better. I finally gave in and went back to the Dr. Thursday afternoon, I definitely have bronchitis on top of the sinus infection. She put me on steroids, but wow they are messing with my blood sugar big time. I don't take any pills or insulin to control it, it's always in a good range but wow it's been up there this time. I've been drinking tons of water and really eating low carb, I only have 2 more pills to take and I'm so glad. Hopefully my sugar will start to get back to normal.

I have gotten so addicted to this new craft I found a year ago, I really need to curtail the time I spend on it. My house and our diet is suffering.
I know how you feel Christi, I look around at all the stuff I need to be doing and I get overwhelmed too so I go do my crafts instead of dealing with it. My dhs office is still full of boxes that he hasn't gotten around to unpacking. I really need to get in there and help him figure out what to do with his stuff (junk :) ) We've been in the house for nearly 3 months now, it's time to be unpacked.

I had my granddaughter all day Saturday. She just cheers me up. She wanted to snuggle a lot. I love this age, she's 4 years old. I don't want her to get any older though. I really spoil her, but she's more than likely going to be my only grandchild so I don't care. Since we moved closer to my ds I get to see her more which I'm loving.

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling. I'm afraid after being on steroids for a week that I'll gain this two pounds back.

I'm very behind at work so I guess I better get back at it.

ALL ABOARD THE STRUGGLE BUS!

I hate that so many of us are having rough weeks, but I'm also really glad that I'm not alone! I am posting because I need to be honest with myself and others: that I have really been struggling more than I thought, since Halloween. I will be blogging on another day for 100 Days of Weight Loss, to see if that helps, but man... It's been tough! So I just wanted to say, to myself as much as everyone else... We CAN do this. We ARE capable. We are smart, we are strong, and we are committed to living healthy lives! It is only Monday, and if today was a rough day, that's okay! Just do your best.

Week 5
Weigh-in: 295.8
Change: - 2.6

Good morning everyone!

This past weekend has been horrific! It's a wonder I didn't gnaw on the kitchen cabinet doors because I've always been a stress-eater. I worked for two days on a quilt for my baby brother and ended up taking it apart on Saturday. I wasn't happy with the back piece. ARGH!

Saturday evening my older son called me in hysterics. His beagle had collapsed and he couldn't locate a vet. The regular vet had diagnosed "Max" with rheumatoid arthritis but I seriously think he had cancer. So I was on the phone with my son and my hubby was on his phone trying to locate a veterinarian through the 24-hour practice. Max didn't linger long (thankfully) and crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Both of my sons are huge animal lovers (they get it honestly) so yesterday was a very sad day for us.

Today is supposed to be our last warm day for awhile and I'm thankful that the weather is nice for Veterans Day. My sweet hubby is a Navy Veteran of Viet Nam (64-68). I pray blessings of safety and love to all of our veterans! Thank you all for stepping up to the plate and serving!

Jimmie is currently at his free breakfast with his younger son (we have 4 sons between us) and is having a free lunch with his older son. I usually go to these with him but opted to stay home this year so I don't blow my calorie count out of the water. We will go to Golden Corral for dinner but I'm going to made a wide detour from the dessert bar and stick with chicken, some veggies and a big salad! I may have to put on a blindfold to get past that dessert bar! Lol!!

So I've rambled on enough! I hope everyone has a great week, feels great and sparks on! We can do this!!

Pretty pleased to break even! My week was challenging. I'm not managing my time well, and I have a lot of things to do. It's like, I have so much to do that I become paralyzed and do nothing but space out and watch TV instead. Ugh. I need to make more time for things that inspire me and help with my stress! I'm trying to be more organized this upcoming week and make lists and stay on track...

Richard: Great job!

Christi: Hope you get that weekend job! And thank you for the kind words. We all learn so much from each other in this group... and you're still having a great year! You're going through a lot of changes, and you're doing it beautifully!

Hope everyone has a great week and stays warm!

I absolutely love Quilts. I live in a ranch style farm house and have quilts draped and tucked everywhere!!! I wish I had the skill and no how to piece one. Can you share some pictures of some of your work? Quilting is a true art!
emoticon emoticon
Shirley, I sleep on an electric mattress pad. It helps in old drafty houses. If I have been up and going a lot, it also keeps the swelling in my legs and feet down.

emoticon it has been two years since my knee injury that left me pretty much immobile and reliant on a walker for 6 months. I was so scared and that is what motivated me to loose weight and get into better shape to start with. I don't want another injury to scare me, but I do wish I could find the sense of desperate motivation again. This year has been full of so many changes and I am trying to figure out my role in life again. It is really hard to redefine ones life. I actually believe that returning to the workforce after being a stay at home wife and mother will help me. I even think that if I do get the weekend Secretary job that I may still sub occasionally because the children do make my spirit very Happy!!!

I really would love to end the year were I started is (300). Mermaid and Sonia, I have learned so much from your journey and I know that sometimes we just have to work through stuff and keep showing up and trying even when the scales are going the wrong direction. You two have both had such GREAT years and I know that I can find my groove again.

It is a life journey and the path is not always straight. Mind, body and spirit. emoticon .

No, I'm not a star but I'm sure enjoying this group! You all are motivating ME! Getting to hear your stories and learning about you is so much fun!

This is the time of year when I start to go nuts, eat too many bad things, stress out, etc. I love to make my Christmas gifts and my list is made early...but I procrastinate and then BAM, the clock starts ticking. Thankfully my DH is very supportive of my lunacy and actually helps me! Yesterday morning I put a pot of navy beans on to cook and tried to finish my youngest brother's quilt for Christmas. It was supposed to be a snuggle blanket to watch tv and the darn thing kept growing to a queen size bed size! DH set up a camper table in our living room so I could spread it out to quilt but it was so heavy that it didn't want to feed through the machine so hubby was "pulling" on the other side as I sewed. I'll have to make a trip to town this morning to get more bias tape so I can get this one finished and be able to start another one next week. It's going to be a rag quilt so it'll be much easier!

Those beans tasted so good for supper but would have tasted better with a big piece of cornbread dripping with butter and or honey. LOL!!!

Keep your stories coming! BTW, I have so much respect for teachers! It takes love and patience to be one! I was an office manager for a Foster Care and Adoption Program for many years.

Keep sparking everyone!!

I am my biggest hurdle but now I'm ready to jump higher!

Thanks for the helpful hint Mona, I didn't know that. I will definitely being doing that tonight. I think I'm going to end up back at my Drs. office. This has been going on for a week and even with the antibiotic I'm not feeling that much better. This is the weekend my ds gets his daughter but I don't think I'll be seeing much of her. She sure doesn't need this after just getting over a bad viral respiratory infection.

Christie, I laughed when I read about the little boy wanting his teacher to on vacation, that's so cute. I'm praying you get the job at the nursing home.

Supposed to get cold this weekend and it looks like it's going to stay that way. Time to dig out the flannel sheets. This big old house is freezing cold. Especially the bathroom. It has a stone floor and wow! talk about a wake up call if you dare to go in there without slippers on. We've been putting a space heater in there in the mornings so we don't freeze in the shower.

Put some Vicks on the bottom of your feet and put on socks when you go to bed. Helps you breathe and decreases coughing. Hope you feel better soon!

I am my biggest hurdle but now I'm ready to jump higher!

Christi-
Praying it works out for you.
I can see why the kids adore you, there is nothing not to love about you!
