bill, sorry bout your grandma . 95 was a lot of years . if she was in any way suffering some times its for the best .

ummm the hardest part about the holidays for me is I miss the excitement Christmas always held for me when I had my children home and small . right now we hae 2 babys in the family but no young children old enough to be excited about Christmas. I just go through the motions now lol my son put some lights in the bushes last week while he was home but im only going to use my 4 ft alpine tree this year my granddaughter [shes 26] won't be home either thi year so that's kinda hard but we will still enjoy the few of us that will be here .
and diet wise, it seems to be a time of the year that I want those homemade goodies so there won't be a lot of them this year

you can if you think you can

QOTD for Wednesday:

What is the most difficult thing for you about the Holidays?

I'd say the temptation is always there to overeat during the holiday meal. I haven't done that for quite a few years but it's hard when things taste so blasted good!

QOTD: What is the most difficult for you about the Holidays?

The child in me wants to taste everything, and if it's good, grab the whole thing and make a run for the tree house. The adult in me battles with tasting versus making a grab and semi quick walk, (fat don't run), for mass consumption of calories. Crazy I know. My fat boy work around used to be acting like an adult in front of my friends and then making a stop at the 24 hour market on the way home and just buying "the thing!" Which mass consumption of calories soon ensued. Sometimes it is just much easier not to taste in the first place and enjoy the surroundings. When love is food, things in your head get wiggly wobbly and it's really hard to make 2 + 2 to always equal 4.

QOTD: What is the most difficult for you about the Holidays?

Missing my husband, he was "Santa Clause" and loved playing the role so much that he started to do it professionally. I lost him in October of 2013 and my father this past August. It is hard decorating the house, yard and tree because all I ever had to do was the tree. He would go wild with lights, garland, candy canes...

emoticon emoticon emoticon

I find it hard not to bake, I love to make cakes and cookies etc to share but not this year too much temptations to nibble on all the treats. You know you have to taste it to make sure it takes right LOL

QOTD: What is the most difficult for you about the Holidays?

I would say the memories of losing my husband on November 4th, 2003 and losing my mom on December 18th, 2011. I think about past holidays with them and my children. I remember the Christmas Eve after my dad passed away. I just sat on mom and dad's bed and cried and cried. I cherish those past memories so much.

QOTD for Wednesday:

What is the most difficult thing for you about the Holidays?

Missing my parents. My dad passed away in 1989 and my mom in 1997, but it doesn't get any easier, especially this time of year. The challenge will be not trying to drown my sadness with food.

Time to find the person hiding underneath all this weight--

QOTD: What is the most difficult thing for you about the Holidays?

I would have to say all the treats. My office usually has a giant box of See's Chocolates sitting out during the holidays and when it is empty, another shows up. I don't really love chocolates but they are so accessible I usually partake. I really am the type of person that struggles when something is in front of me. Even yesterday, I got home from work, opened the fridge, and saw that my wife had made a batch of fudge. I nibbled on a little and throughout the evening went back for a little more over and over. If I am away from it, it is not a temptation at all.

Thanks for all your concern about my Grandma. I am looking forward to getting to see a lot of family that live out of state this weekend.

Checking in to say hi! I'm nervous and full of butterflies this morning. I have an interview in about 30 minutes for another position within my company. It's a small step up, but that's not why I want it. Things are feeling pretty uncertain in my department right now, and I want to jump ship before the worst happens!!

Bill, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my granny right before Thanksgiving last year, so I can sympathize. emoticon

QOTD: What did you do today to contribute to your healthy lifestyle?

I took my dog for a walk down the cul-de-sac. It was a little cold, but not nearly as bad as it has been the last couple of days. My back was killing me when I got back, so I took a short cut across the yard. My dog loves it outside, except when it is really cold and his little paws get cold.

My healthy habit for the month will be to journal my food every day.

QOTD: Today I had some fresh fruit for the first time in weeks.

We're working on getting the surgery for my husband to have his eye removed scheduled. He's in a much better mood now. I think this is a better option for him. He's happier than I've seen him in months. Now I'm the one battling depression. Usually I get over it in a few days but it's been lingering for weeks now.

QOTD: What did you do today to contribute to your healthy lifestyle?

What a day to ask this. I slept in and skipped my workout for the first time in forever. Then while driving to work, my mom called to tell me that my grandma had passed away during the night. (She was 95 and had been in the hospital for a few weeks so while we are sad, we are calling it a blessing). I was struggling during the morning and was about to give into the urge to go out at lunch and medicate with a bunch of food like I used to do but I fought it and ate the salad i had brought from home for lunch. Major victory! I ate a good dinner and as soon as the kids are in bed, I am going to go downstairs and so a cardio interval workout. So my surviving and fighting the cravings was my contribution to my healthy lifestyle.

Thank you all for your support! It really warms my heart! I know I did what was best!

QOTD answer: I ate healthy so far and dealt with my feelings about not being able to watch DGD. I plan to get on my elliptical in just a few minutes too. I don't know how long I'll be able to use it but I'll be lapping everyone on the couch!

Anna - Terrific for you!

Lauri - I really hope you aren't setting yourself up for another fall with Darrell. I hope your head feels better soon.

Husker - Happy Anniversary a bit late! Sounds like you had a good time of it!

Lee - DH has the Kindle Fire 10 inch tablet and loves it. He has another tablet and it was more expensive and he doesn't like it as well. It's one of the more popular ones but I can't remember the name for the life of me!

Hi Everyone!

I've been MIA the last few days. I finally went to the hospital yesterday for my migraine and hot a couple of shots, but it isn't doing anything for me. Usually it takes the big guns and this doctor didn't believe in using narcotics. Oh well, I guess I just suffer another couple of days until it runs it's course or I give in and go back to the emergency room again. Only time will tell. It depends on how desperate I get. I have to take my dog to the groomers today, then go to my counseling appointment and then go shopping to make returns on things I bought for Michael that are the wrong size. I need to get a smaller size for him. He is doing really well with his weight loss. I am really proud of him.

The visiting nurses came out this weekend and set my mom up on Hospice Care. They feel she has less than 6 months to live. I hope we can stretch it out more than that. Only God truly knows how long she has left. I just say a prayer and keep on hoping. emoticon She is in good spirits so far and that is all I can ask for. She is much more comfortable now that they have her on oxygen and several other medications for pain and anxiety. They are really helping. The only problem now is she is throwing up everything she is eating because the tumor is pressing on her stomach. My best friend, Darrell is back here staying with us and I'm not sure how much of that is about him not having a place to stay and how much is about Mom. Either way, I'm glad to have him here. I just hope he doesn't develop sticky fingers. I love him, but I don't trust him. After everything that has happened between us, I'm sure you can understand my mistrust.

Well, I need to get going. I hope you all have a wonderful day and I will talk to you soon. Stay warm and well and I look forward to reading all your posts later.

P.S. My healthy habit for December is going to be to eat breakfast at least 5 days a week.

Hugs, Lauri

Jeanne, babies can be fun but you do want to have someone around to pass them to once they become work. Don't feel guilty, just another reason to beat this curse we all suffer.

Huskergirl, I love to travel and hate to travel. I have to stop at least every 2 hours or so and walk from one end of the rest area to the other so my body knows there's more to life than sitting on my tushee.

Lee, if you are checking out the kindle make sure you are looking at the Fire Tablet. I have the kindle reader, which is great, but it's not a tablet by any means like the Fire.

Hope that everyone had a great weekend! I stuck to my plan and it worked. It actually worked better than I expected. I weighted myself twice because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – yes my scale speaks the weight LOL Skipping the desserts and taking only the healthy sides really made the choice so worth it.

Jeanne~ I know how much you were looking forward to watching her, but a newborn is a hard job sometimes. Get yourself where you need to be and then you can watch her for your daughter!

Lee~ I have both a kindle fire and an ipad. Either would work for your hubby to play games on. The Kindle is much cheaper though. And he could read on them, watch movies or whatever he wanted to do.

Huskergirl~ Happy Anniversary..Sounds as though you had a fantastic time.

Hello all.....I was missing in action for 9 days. My husband & I went on a vacation for our 10th Anniversary & Thanksgiving. We got to spend Thanksgiving in Georgia with my brother and his family. We had a great time, spent 6 days traveling through and to 11 states. I got to see country I have never seen spend time in some great cities and enjoy myself. We did quite a bit of walking, and I tried to watch what I ate. Many times my husband and I would split a supper meal, but I still gained quit a bit of weight. I know that I am retaining water, even thought I have been taking my water pills, because my feet and lower legs are swollen bad, too many hours sitting in the car. I weighed when I got home and it was UGLY. I am not going to count that as my weigh in though as I do not feel that is my true weight. I know that I will have a gain, and I am fine with that, it was worth it, I ate amazing foods and had great experiences that I will never have again. Now it is time to buckle down and get back to doing everything right. Hope everyone has a great day. emoticon

Coming in with another gain, and I felt it when walking to my car after work today. Got out of breath quickly. Some of my dance classes have ended for a while too, so I need to up the exercise and be more stringent on preparing the healthy food, now that Thanksgiving is over. I also let the soda pop back in briefly and had salty fast foods the last couple of days. Now on to better things.

Have a great week everyone.

blue jay, you really do need to get yourself well before you try to take on taking care of ababy. that's some work especially since its probabley been a long while.
hope your daughter and sil understood. . but you do need to take care of your self. then maybe some day you can watch her [like when shes old enough too go to school[lol]
bottom line, if you couldn't handle it that's just the way it is.

Jeanne,
"watching" is such a misleading word. Caring for a young child is hard work! Do not be hard on yourself! Be glad that you realized right away that other arrangements need to be made. You would never forgive yourself if something happened, like getting shaky and losing you grip on the baby. God sends us messages and yours was to focus on your own health so you can be there for the long term with your precious grandchildren!

Okay a long story short. My body did not hold up to watching a 6 week old baby with stomach issues that require many changes of clothing and much bending. I had to call DD and son-in-law and rearrange things with them so that baby will be getting watched by someone else. I have feelings of sadness, frustration and shame. Sadness as I will miss out on time with my granddaughter. Frustration as I feel like my body let me down. Shame because as I was doing everything with baby and getting more and more tired and shaky I was wondering "what is going to happen to me and my workouts?" I have not ever been selfish and that is what this feels like to me but I know that I HAVE to take time for myself or I won't be alive to watch my grandchildren grow up.

I think it's helpful for me to see what a couple of days of not tracking calories and carbs can do to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm on the brink of getting burned out, because I know this is something I'll have to keep track of for the rest of my life.

It's interesting too that what I eat has so much more to do with my weight than the amount of exercise I get...I tracked 479 minutes of exercise last week, which would seem like it would offset two days of overindulgence, but it didn't.

We went out to eat this year for thanksgiving. My awesome daughter in law is having brain surgery on the 17th for an aneurysm and she didn't want to cook or have it here at the house. So we went out to cracker barrel and had a good dinner with dessert and I barely went over my calories for the day. BTW we did tip our server well! This is a blessing because stuffing....oh my, I cannot leave it alone until its gone. So not having leftovers is good, plus we did not have pies around either!
I think we are having Christmas early since she may not even be home for the 25th, and if she is she will not be up to festivities. So maybe I can avoid all that food that piles on the pounds this year!

Sounds like there are several of us looking for a December do-over to get back on track from Thanksgiving! One positive that I take away from this, though, is that we are all well aware of where we went wrong, and that is a huge part of the battle. Knowledge is power!

Time to find the person hiding underneath all this weight--

I gained 4 lbs. I ate what I wanted on Thanksgiving and the day after, so that's probably why. I did manage to exercise every day, even when I had bad cramps.

Happy December everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Due to schedules we didn't celebrate Thanksgiving until yesterday. So now the leftovers will be hanging around all week. I didn't overdo yesterday and I don't intend to all week.

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a nice holiday too. My holiday fun is certainly showing up on the scale today - yikes! I'm also blaming some weight gain on water retention and womanly issues. That being said, it is time to begin a new month - refreshed and refocused. I am with Trish. I'd like to focus on drinking more water, and I'd like to get to the gym no less than three times a week. I too love the elliptical. I don't feel cozy running on the treadmill because I have knee and ankle issues, but the elliptical helps to get me to a target heart rate without all the too much discomfort on the joints. For those who are just starting, I recommend that you ease into it like Electra mentioned. If you are doing a half hour of cardio. Do 25 mins on the treadmill and 5 mins on the elliptical. With each session add a minute on the elliptical to build up your stamina. It works.

I'm up this weigh in but hey I'll take it, two boxes of triscuits moved in and are comfortably living in my thighs. That was about the worse food show down where I weakened. Now we have to face the onslaught of goodwill in the form of seasonal favorites. We are strong, we are invincible, we are woman - no wait, what, no. But you get the gist.

Trish in Texas,

I'm so glad I read your post first. Had the same week as you and was dreading posting today. I binged last night and feel like crap today. I don't feel like trying or starting over so I knew I needed to log in and check the posts before I started eating. So know that someone feels your pain and is comforted that I am not the only one struggling.

On a good note even though I binged I kept track of my calories. 3660 was my total with 136 being of fat. I need to tell people that because it's something I usually hide. It's my shame and I need to get it out in the open. I binged because I am feeling stressed, like a failure, anxious about things I need to get done in the next few weeks...ect.

So I'm going to read some more posts and articles and try and change my attitude to a positive one. Then I may post again.

Here is my question? Do I eat breakfast? I don't feel like eating because I'm still feeling gross from last night.

Leslie

What a weekend! I didn't get a chance to check in all weekend, and I feel terrible that I'm not doing a better job of interacting with my teammates. I read back through most of the posts since I was here last, but still feel lost. Rather than address y'all individually, I'll just say congrats to those of you with successes (and I see a lot of those) and hugs to those facing challenges. I will get better at this.

Myself, I totally blew it this weekend. Up 5.2 pounds on the scale. I realize it is probably primarily water and will drop quickly, but I know some of it is real. I feel miserable physically and ashamed emotionally. But, it is a new week, a new day, and a new start (again). I know what I need to do, so time to do it!

Oh, and as for healthy habits for December, I want to focus on drinking water and starting to exercise at least 3 times a week.

Yaaaaahhhh Dusty, so glad you have a new place to call home!!!!

Sorry I have been missing for a few days but my daughter was in and I spent a lot of time with her and not online. I didn't gain any over the holiday but I didn't lose either so I'm happy with that since there was so much food and desserts around.

Congrats to all who posted a loss!!!!

Patty
