Netter-I got the pumpkin banana bread recipe from sparkpeople! :) http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-deta
il.asp?recipe=75760

I made a few changes to make it healthier..I used 2 cups white flour (all purpose) and 2 wheat, used applesauce in place of the oil, and I also added some vanilla in and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on the top before baking. It's soooo good. My kids could not eat enough of it. Get the pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling, which is already sweetened.

Angelak- I found it so easy to eat healthy when I was pg also. You just want to do the best you can for the baby. I never gained much weight when I was pg. I walked when I could, but I had realy bad morning sickness and threw up a lot of what I ate. Both my kids are super healthy and attribute it to eating well when pg and breastfeeding, and also trying my best to feed them well. :) My oldest never even got antibiotics till he was in Kindergarten and got strep throat and neither of them have had an ear infection and rarely get colds. My son was a preemie and did get RSV, but he got over it fast and the Dr. thinks breastfeeding helped him through that.

Midwestdeb-I think your niece is right about just getting right back on track. None of us are going to do things perfectly, what matters is that we keep going and refuse to let the little things derail us.

Fairyanne-I was the typical mom doing everything for everyone and not taking enough time for myself, and it took its toll. I gained more weight after I had my kids than any other time in my life. Finally I decided I couldn't keep going on that way, and it's ok if I don't get everyone done, I jsut do the most important things first. :)

Thanks for the suggestions..

I have time in the morning for shakes, and yep i have a microwave and toaster oven at work so maybe making items and then freezing them and taking to work is a good option..

THanks everyone

The breakfast tacos I make...I use whole wheat tortillas. Then I scramble egg whites, and add in mushrooms, onions, green onion/chive and cilantro. Sometimes I will put in a slice of turkey bacon. That is pretty much all I do.

Great first week everyone!!
Took the "How Stressed Are You?" quiz. Surprisingly my result was "You have an Excellent Resistance to Stress"
WOW! I have to give most of that over to friends and accountability partners - I have several very close, dear girlfriends I can call on and we regularly get together and share our trials and hangups with each other.

As for the articles, the first one reminded me of something my niece told me when I told her I had overdone it with food one weekend. She said "Just get right back on track... don't wait until tomorrow or next week." She said "If you fall off your bike you aren't going to leave it laying there, walk away, and say, I'll just wait until tomorrow or next week to get back on it." That really made me think, because all too often if I mess up, I have the tendency to just continue "blowing" away the rest of the day.

Well, Happy October 1st to all of you!! Hope you have a blessed weekend!

Netter61- I did the stress test, result was: You are Seriously Vulnerable to Stress.

I really had not thought about it but over the past couple of months with what has been going on in our family, yep I do feel stressed. I think most of us females tend to "just carry on" because we have too. We do not take a second to look at ourselves, I know that a large part of my weight is that I eat my stress away!
Thanks.

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

emoticon emoticon Good Morning oh beautifully Bewitching Ghouls!!! emoticon emoticon

Emmy - I didn't drink all the 2 liter but I came pretty darn close!!

Vicki - do you have the ability to heat things up at work? Or are you really eating on the go?

Angela - how do you make your breafast tacos?

I have access to a microwave - here's some of what I've done:
~~Amy's microwaveable breakfast bowls
~~created my own breakfast bowl w/diced potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage (cooked each item up and portioned it into a container)
~~tortilla wrap with scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage
~~tortilla wrap with chicken strips/lettuce/cheese
~~yogurt and fruit (and maybe a cheese stick or two)

Would you have time to make a smoothie of some kind before running out the door? If you're feeling even more energetic, maybe you could make some kind of a granola breakfast bar. There's a few SP recipes that I'd like to try but haven't yet.

I was reading an article a few weeks back about some breakfast ideas. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, everyone, hope you are having a wonderful Friday!! Chat with ya later - the office work is calling.....

Curvy_Canadian (sorry I am bad at remembering names)..what I do sometimes are make some healthy breakfast tacos the night before, and put them in baggies and they are good reheated the next day.
I also do slim fast from time to time, but really have to stop doing that now since it wont be enough while I am pregnant lol.
English Muffin sandwiches are also good to make ahead of time, with egg (or egg whites). I have done all of these and they turned out fine for me! I hope you think of something :)

I need some ideas from my SP Friends....

I am looking for quick ideas for a grab and go breakfast. Things that I can prep ahead of time or just other ideas... I am tired of getting a coffee and a bagel everyday...

I agree, I am sorry some of you are having a rough time. Just take one day at a time, and it will be ok. All that matters is you are trying and are not completely giving up.
Now that I am pregnant I feel like I can eat better because I don't want to give the baby junk...stuff I don't want to eat! Plus I will stay away from caffeine, so no more cokes for me what so ever!

Sunset - Happy Belated Wednesday to you! And Happy Thursday!!

Emmy - I totally understand that extremely busy at work thing! I'll finally be able to breathe tomorrow! Congrats on the 2# loss and 40# overall! How are you doing with the walk/run training?

Angela - thanks for that bathroom pushup tip! And, CONGRATS on your exciting news!! I'm so happy for you!!

Cassie - hope your determination stuck with you yesterday and today! Keep working towards that goal of getting out of the 220's! Some day I will get there!

Elizabeth - banana pumpkin bread? Sounds good! I think I'm going to have to look for that recipe. Hope your knees are feeling better! How'd that eating out go with your Mom? It sounds like you're doing a lot in teaching your daughter! I think that's neat!!

Ann - any loss is better than nothing!! How's that de-cluttering going? As horrible as it is to get the diagnosis on your grandson, at least you know now what is going on. Good luck with your learning on how to work with him.

Jackie - Have you found anything out yet at work? Try to keep finding alternate ways to work out your stress rather than eating. It's hard but it can be done (sometimes!! emoticon ) Keep on working you'll get the 8.8# gone!!

Debbie - you've done better than me on getting those pushups and side bends done! I feel kinda guilty since I'm the one who posted and I didn't even get 'em done! I agree with you on your statement that some people just plain don't understand what being over weight is like and that some feel threatened when someone near them is trying to improve themselves. They don't know how to handle it. Sabotaging myself and "I'll show you" attitudes do nothing but hurt us - so why do we do it???

Anita - sorry to hear about your daughter and her bp issues. Keep working with her and explaining the importance of staying on those meds. I ended up in the hospital about 7 years ago with mine - it got up to about 200/110. They kept me for 3 days trying to get it regulated. I'm still on meds (whenever I remember to take them!). It's scary when your bp gets too high. Keep being that role model you are.

Teresa - I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Stay positive. I like Emily's statement "the best revenge is living well". Good luck! I like your attitude of "today is not going to be a poor me day, it's going to be a take care of me day"! Keep that attitude!!

Scraparcs - congrats on the promotion!! And, I know you'll be getting back on that wagon again! You can do it!!

Nora - so sorry to hear about your former co-worker and the confrontation with your mom. At least you know where there are problems with your eating and that you need to work on it. That's a step in the right direction!!! And, the fact that it's better than last week means you are working on it! Keep it up!!

We are strong ladies! Let's prove it and stay determined and not let those curveballs of life get in our way!!

Was a rough day yesterday. Found out a former co-worker committed suicide. Then had a bit of a confrontation with my mom over my weight. But I'm doing okay. Food was... all right. Better than it has been the last week or so, but not where I want it to be.

Tweets-I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I know you can find the strength to take care of yourself during this. ((HUGS))

Anita-I am sorry about your daughter's HBP. I had issues with my bp when I was younger and the Dr seemed to think birth control was causing it. It was much better once I stopped the pill. I hope you guys can do this together and find support in one another and then hopefully her weight will lower soon and then she won't needs the meds. ((HUGS))

As for me, it's another gloomy rainy day here. We really needed the rain though. I decided to get my workout in first thing after my son got on the bus for school. My daughter watched a Barbie video while I was doing that. We're going to practice the alphabet. We make a little picture each week with a different letter and then all through the week I find books and things and point out that letter and we talk about what words start with it. She's so much easier to teach than my son. I feel I will need to do a little more with her because we can't afford to send her to preschool for 2 years like we did with her brother. I am hoping she can at least go to pre-k next year. She is smart, so I am sure she'll do fine. She already writes letters and knows a lot of the numbers and can count and do puzzles well, and she's not even 4.

I did 40 mins of tae bo today. I like to get my exercise done in the earlier part of the day if I can so I know I've done it and nothing can get in the way of it. My mom is supposed to come visit today and we might all go to dinner, so I am going to plan what I eat so I don't over eat.

Well I got my 60 min in at the gym yesterday still a little high with calories but not to crazy I've gotten about 4 of the 8.8lbs I gained off already so that makes me happy I'm going to keep moving I'll be going to the gym after work again and I'm trying to keep a closer eye on my calories for the rest of the week.

Everyone take care on this lovely Thursday.

Just reading back a bit guys, ended up with an unexpected promotion at work so been busy busy this week. Combine that with some personal issues and me really falling off the wagon and I need to get back on.

Change is positive now though. The wagon is still there and it hasn't been so long that I have to start from day one.

Anita, I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter had to go on BP meds. On the plus side, she's really young and it sounds like the doctor caught the high BP really early. With a health-conscious mom like you I'm sure she'll be able to make healthy changes that will blossom into a lifestyle for years to come.

Tweets, I am so sorry that your day went so badly! I can't imagine how betrayed you must feel. I'm glad you came here to vent! I had a friend who told me that her breakup mantra was "the best revenge is living well." I think you should do something really nice for yourself (like a manicure, or a weekend vacation or something) on HIS dime and come home feeling radiant about yourself.

I'm so glad this day is almost over. Today has been one of the hardest in a very long time. After everyone got home it's went to hell in a hand basket so to speak. Both of my girls came home in bad moods and I yet to know why and Todd's been very different the past few weeks. Today he used my van so I could have the truck, so tonight I got in my van to find it smelled of another woman and might I say she forgot her sun glasses.I have not said a thing about it, but I want to go off on him. Since I found this out all I want to do is eat!! I have went for a walk to let some of the steam off. I want to cry but atthe sametime I have to stay strong for the girls. I just have to ask God to help me deal with this. I'm so pissed just this week I got my rings back on after not being able to wear them for over a year. I have worked my ass off to get where I'm at today with my weight and I'm not going to let a man take that from me now.Sorry I just needed to vent at this point you guys are the only ones I have said anything to.

Hey team, I know I have been a little MIA, lots of things going on.. My DD who is 17 was put on high blood pressure meds.. she went to the doctor last week for a check up her BP was high, so doc wanted to see her a week later. still high and it has been consistanctly going up in the past year.. she was very hurt and very up set I think she knows she has to do something about her weight she is 5'11 and weighs 286.. she thinks that just because she is tall. that she can carry it well.. I told her that it does not matter.. My heart is breaking.. and I feel so helpless, I have really tried to be a roll model for her. but Now I am doughting my self and all my efforts.. very depressed for that
and that fact that the scale has not moved in two week, part of me is saying oh what the heck..
and I know I cannot turn back I do not want to go back to the old Anita.. 330 lbs and unhappy my BP was high then but not enough to go on meds.. matter of fact it was at 132 today which is ok she said but could be lower.. well stress is a huge part too.
any ways.. Sorry for being a downer this team rocks and we are all doing so well.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest..

Anita

Doing the {{Happy Dance}} for Angela! How wonderful!

Also have been doing the wall push-ups. I actually like them better than the side bends, but its definitely good to work a different "part"!

As for the article of "10 Things Not to Say..." I can remember one vacation when we were visiting my in-laws and I was really trying to stay on track. It made my father-in-law so angry. And my mother-in-law told me that I should leave the "diet" at home when I was on vacation.
I think SOME people feel threatened when a person is trying to improve themselves, and I think SOME people just plain don't understand what being over-weight is like.
Making life-style changes are not usually the easiest thing anyway, and when those around us, those we count on for support, aren't supportive it makes it that much harder.
I think that I purposefully avoid people I think will say things like this to me, because I get defensive and that just leads to more issues. In the past there have been times when I have ended up sabotaging MYSELF because someone told me I "couldn't have" a particular food. I took the "I'll show you" attitude, which doesn't often work to my benefit.

Just my 2 cents!
Happy Hump Day to everyone!!
Debbie

Angela - Congrats! How wonderful another member of your family is on its way.
You will have to watch your workouts, no crazy stuff but of course no eating for two!!!!! LOL

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy Wednesday............How is everyone doing? I am planning to do better. I had a loss but still it should be bigger.
I am at my house for the month of October and I need to clean and de-clutter, does this count as exercise! LOL. I have so much stuff that I do not use so I am offering family first and then trips to Good Will etc.
We got the diagnosis on our 3 year old grandson. He is on the Autism Spectrum, just. He is very high functioning. Boy it knocks the wind out of you when you get this kind of info. We always knew something was not adding up but it is different when you hear a professional saying what you have been thinking!
Now our family is trying to learn how to help him and our daughter is looking at special schools to meet his needs.
My laundry awaits me and then I have to figure out what room to start my clean up with. Think the living rooms wins out first. Right now it is set up for summer so I have to change it around so the heating vents are clear and maximizing the incoming light. Does anyone else move their furniture around depending on season?

Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

Pookie-Congrats on losing 40 lbs! That is awesome!!

Nora-Hope you're feeling better soon. Colds suck!

Runtofindme- I hope you will be out of the 220s soon. You can do it!

It's a rainy chilly day here. I don't mind it though. It's a good excuse to cuddle on the couch with my daughter and read or watch videos. I baked some banana pumpkin bread (found the recipe on sparkpeople) and it was soooo good. I ate 2 pieces and had to make myself stop. LOL My daughter loves it too.

I worked out the last 2 days, and I think I am taking a day off today. For some reason my left knee is bugging me again, so I think I'll rest it and then workout the next 3 days and that will give me a 5 day workout week. It seems like each time I try a new exercise, my knee bugs me. It's like it has to get used to it. My knees are one of the main reasons I haven't really tried much running yet.

I never got my push ups done yesterday. I kept forgetting when I went to the bathroom. I only got in 10:(. I did get in a 3 mile jog/walk. Today I have written on a sticky note at my desk, push ups so that I remember to do them. I am ready for the weigh in already! I am confident this week! I have been in the 220's for several months and I think I may get out of them this week!!!

I am determined today!
So remember what do you need to do differently??? DO IT!:)
Good day everyone

Sorry have been extremely busy at work, I've struggled some days but haven't let it take over still did well this week lost 2# and am under the 280 mark that was a big accomplishment for me. i'm now down 40# woohoo!! Never giving up on myself.

I decided to get out my comfort zone and started training for a walk/run habit of 30 mins a day. I started with 20 mins and will increase it slowly. So I did my first walk/run work out last night it called fcr 30 mins but I did 20 mins 5 min warm up, 10 mins of run/walk 1 min each then 5 min cool down walk.

It felt good. I feel like i CAN do it!

How about you all do you have something you have wanted to try but haven't?

Just bumping this to the top.......and changing the exercise!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How did you do for this first week of the Spooktacular challenge? Angela asked the question a day or so ago about what you might change for this upcoming week. Are you going to make any changes? If so, what? What was your struggle this past week?
I came across this article a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd share it with you.
