To do your RMR, schedule an appointment with Kaiser (I don't know who else does it, but you can check). You have to breath in a tube for about 15 mins (like using a snorkel), and just rest and try to breath normal. You then get a print-out of what your calorie range should be to lose weight, and what your calorie range should be to maintain your weight. And if doing lots of exercise you can increase you calorie range a little higher too. I don't know if it had the RQ rate, I don't remember.

The staff at Kaiser helped answer all my questions.

I use SparkPeople to help me track my food and make sure I stay within my daily calorie range.

When I first joined SparkPeople I thought I needed to just eat under 2000 calories a day to lose weight, when really I shouldn't be eating over 1350 calories a day based on my RMR. This was a real eye opener for me, and helped explain why I was having trouble losing weight.

Doing my RMR helped me, because it was based on my body, and told me what calorie range was right for me.

Keep me posted if you get your RMR done.

What was the test like? What did you have to do?

Is that your range for losing weight? Or maintaining weight? Did it also happen to give you your RQ to dial in macro nutrients?

I did this too. It was very valuable information. I learned that I needed more calories, and I was sabotaging my weight loss progress.
Good for you!

I recently had a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) tested at Kaiser. This is calories my body is burning while resting. I got a print out of what my calorie range should be so I am not guessing and know exactly what my range should be. I took my new calorie range and updated SparkPeople so I can keep track of the food I eat.

The whole procedure took about 1 hour and I talked to a Health Educator that helped assist me in the best way for me to reach my weight loss goal.

The cost is $55 for Kaiser members and $75 for Non-members.

If you are having a hard time trying to figure our what your calorie range should be, I highly recommend checking your RMR and take out the guess work.

Each of our bodies are different so while someone can eat 1600 calories a day and still loss weight, I found out my range is no more than 1200 - 1350 calories a day.
