The weekend didn't go quite the way I'd planned so didn't get in much strength training. I did get in a lot of walking though along with some Wii Fit and little elliptical to keep some cardio going.

See you in the new week's challenge thread.

Good job, Becca. That's the goal really, to help us all be active and working towards improving or maintaining our health.

Stay moving everyone. I hope it's as nice a day where you are as it is here. 86 & gorgeous!

I can't say that I've followed the suggested workouts for this challenge at all this week, but it has helped me to get some exercise everyday. Today was the third day in a row I've went for at least a 30 minute walk. I was proud tonight because it was late and would have been very easy to make excuses not to go but I just did it. I hope you all have a great weekend! ~Becca

did my strength exercises this morning with free weights and 2 hours washing and polishing my motorcycle. Then I went for a really nice walk. Tired but feels good. Have a great weekend everyone.

Happy Friday, All!

LOL Read all your posts & glad to see you are all doing really well. About that happy hour.... I didn't do too badly at the happy hour itself. Had some wine and maybe an ounce of pretzels. The bad part was the rest of the evening. I did not do my exercising (apart from that bit of walking & stair climbing earlier in the day). Then I stopped at White Castle of all places and took home "dinner" from there. 4 jalopeno cheeseburgers later, I hang my head in shame.

So that was the bad part. On the brighter side, even with that unhealthy meal, I stayed (barely) within my calorie range for the day & within most of the nutrient ranges too; was low in vit C and fiber I think. So hopefully that doesn't cause too much damage.

emoticon

Today, I went in the other direction. I did the bikini workout routine plus another 1 1/2 of cardio (mix of elliptical, dog walking & Wii Fit). Gonna call that quits for the day.

emoticon emoticon
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Tonight was supposed to be a 6 mile run. Well I got the 6 miles but I guess I'm just not used to the heat yet because I was toast after 3. When I ran yesterday it was like 50, tonight it was 84! I ended up walking back. It took 83 minutes total and burned 851 calories. Tomorrow will be a rest day, and I will be eatin' good!

Thanks montanagal! Did you ever consider doing a 5k? You've definitely got the endurance and your speed's pretty good, too.

Possibly Sheenadee's happy hour went a little too good, seeing as we haven't heard from her??!!

Brian36, you inspire me every day!!! I know what you mean about the fast/fancy stuff. It stumps me every time.
Sheenadee: how was that happy hour??

So, today, I hiked with my dogs for 45 (including cc)

Then walked 4.6 mph on my treadmill for 45 min.

As suspected, I lasted only 20 minutes into the DVD before they started doing this fast, fancy routine with the step and I lost my mojo. I stopped the DVD, put in my trusty Ripped & Chiseled DVD and between each strength set I ran fast on the treadmill for 2 minutes to get my heart rate up. My own little interval training. It was kinda fun. All total I got 60 minutes but only burned 350 calories.

I plan to walk at lunch today and am hoping it isn't too hot so I can get in a good run this evening.

Sheena, how was the happy hour?

Good job, everyone!

Sorry to hear about that gravel thing, BRIAN36. I have enough trouble walking on firm surfaces, don't need that gravel to complicate things.

I managed to get in 30 minutes walking today so far, 20 pretty mild, 10 of it up/down stairs. It will be late tonight before I get more in as I have a happy hour to go to. Love a happy hour; but not so good for my health routine if ya know what I mean.

Did the 30 min beginner bikini deal. I'm a crappy weight lifter.

Also did the 45 min dog hike with, of course, CC, feel the BURN.

Beccalynne if you're walking 90% steep hills that's awesome. WOW!!

Well, it wasn't a dog hike but I took a 30 minute walk with my sister-in-law and nieces yesterday afternoon. And we have plans for another one today.

Those can crushers sound tough. I feel like I get a few of those in without trying with the hills we are walking. Where we walk is 90% hills and a couple spots are pretty steep.

I got 60 minutes last night, but unfortunately not all of it was running. For some ungodly reason "they" decided to put this HUGE gravel on a mile stretch of my 4.5 mile route. I could barely walk on it let alone run. But in the interest of making lemonade from my lemons, I decided it was probably a good ankle strengthening workout and it also had to work my abs to keep my balance.

I got another DVD from Netflix. This one is The Firm Cardio Burn + abs. I can see it will be another one that requires coordination, which is NOT my strong suit. But after I get home from my DD's volleyball game tonight, I'm going to give it a shot.

Funny, Sheena!! I may have try those can crushers. I'm thinking it would give my kids something else to say "AAAWWWW Mom, now what are your doing?!?!"

Teenagers, gotta love 'em. No, really we do got to, right? cause if it's not a rule... (just kidding)

C'mon, BECCALYNN75, I think you and I should start doing those dog hikes with MONTANAGAL1 so we might all catch up to BRIAN36 someday. :-)
Not so sure about those can crushers though. hehehe

Today I did 46 mins Wii Fit and 20 min walking. Meant to get in some more intense stuff but somehow that didn't happen.

So I did my normal dog hike, but today, I did up hill lunges on the up hill parts. One of my other teams calls them can crushers. . . trust me it's true!!! Then I came in the house and treadmilled my serious 45 min. of cardio. I really feel GREAT!!!

Brian36, It's encouraging to know you started out where I am now. And I love the Matthew McConaughey quote "My goal is to break a sweat every day."

Sheena, My problem is I have more days of rest than days of exercise! It's slow but I'm working on improving that.

Thanks, guys. Sometimes it's hard to believe that less than 2 years ago, I couldn't walk a mile without being out of breath and having severe leg cramps.

I remember reading an article back when I first started on this journey where Matthew McConaughey was asked how he kept in such good shape. His answer..."My goal is to break a sweat every day." I thought that was a pretty good rule to follow and its grown from there.

Got the Shape Bikini Body Camp DVD from Netflix today. Combination of cardio, strength and abs. Did this for 55 minutes tonight. It required a little more coordination than I have, but I muddled through and my HRM says I burned 475 calories.

BECCALYNN75 - We'll call yesterday your day of rest. :-) Glad you're back at it today.

Bikini Day #3: Did the 30 min strength workout. I really like this & some of it really is a bit difficult for me to get through so I think that's a good thing. It took me an hour to do!! Even longer than Sunday which surprised me because I didn't have to read all the descriptions this time. Hmmmmm Maybe I just don't know how to tell time & messed up on the Sun. total. Also did 60 mins cardio but it was mostly really low impact (Wii Fit); but I do love it.

Tomorrow will be cardio only.

I'm not really good at just following a list of exercises. I'd make a good sheep because I follow a leader really well. My strength this week will be the Jari Love Ripped and Chiseled DVD. Its an hour and here's the breakdown of exercises:

Lunges - 56 w/16#
Squats - 80 w/pulses
Stiff Leg Dead Lift - 28 w/16#
Bent Leg Dead Lift - 28 w/16#
Chest Press - 62 w/30#
Push Ups - 36 w/pulsing on knees (too heavy of weights on chest press so I couldn't do these on toes)
Chest Flye - 62 w/20#
Back Track - 32 w/16#
Tricep Dips - 24
Skull Crushers - 38 w/10#
Pull Overs - 52 w/5# (they use 12# I can't understand what I must be doing wrong??)
Overhead Press - 66 w/pulsing 10# (this one kills me!)
Biceps - 120 w/16#
Hammer Curls - 88 2/10# (my arms are like rubber by the time I get here!!)

No abs on this DVD - I'll have to add them in on the side, but...not tonight!

Think highly of yourself because the world takes you at your estimate.

Bikini Day #1 - I did the "30 minute" full body workout. How come it took me 45? LOL Plus I had in well over an hour cardio; not terribly strenuous cardio but decent workout and I feel good about this.

I have been meaning to do Coach Nicole's Bikini Workout and decided that this week would be the perfect time to give it a try. I'm hoping you will join me in it for this week's challenge.

What's required?

emoticon 3-4 days of 45 mins cardio

emoticon 2-3 days following one of the three full-body srength workouts

Follow this link for a full explanation of the Bikini Workout, including description of the strength portion.

I think this will really help get us ready for summer. Looking forward to working out with you all in this challenge.

If you find that some of the suggested exercises are too much for your current fitness level or time constraints, I hope you will try it out and make whatever modifications might be needed in order to fit with your personal fitness abilities and goals.
