Hey out there, anyone still want to do this calorie range challenge?!
I do. Sorry I didn't check in last summer when you were all doing it!
So I am gonna try to stay within 1500 a day.
Anyone else?

June was a great month. Stayed close to my range of 1200-1550...BUT JULY...man, been hard, too many get together with friends, people stopping by, family issues. Tomorrow I start anew. Although I weight in on Sat and was down 2lbs from the 6th, was so NOT expecting that. Took me years to get to this size, so I know it will take a while to get it off safely. I am down 18lbs and people are noticing, and I don't expect to ever be a size 10 again anyway. I use the calorie range as a guide line ONLY !! Can't get caught up in it all ya know. But I am learning that I need to eat and if I want something then I bargain with myself for it. For example, going for drinks with friends after work on Friday, then I won't have any pasta or bread or rice or potatoes or creamed soups...that kind of thing. Seems to work for me. I actually ran today instead of walked the dog. Just wanted to see how far I would get until I was winded. I got farther that I thought I would ! It was surprising. Tomorrow I will go a little further; then the next day, etc, you know the drill. Adding a little something to what I am already doing physically (which is Curves 4-6 times per week); I kind of plateaued over the past 3 weeks. See what tomorrow brings !

I feel really good about staying within range. Although I have slipped a few days, on vacation or visiting family. But I still feel great because I was able to make better decisions. I stayed away from the pasta and added a salad. AT restaurants I go straight for the low calorie/weight watchers section. stay on track, keep making good decisions

Memorial weekend was also bad for me. But I did not get right back to it like I should of. It took me nearly a week to get back to it and I gained 3 pounds. But this time I am going to stick to it.

I have only fallen off the range wagon fou times. Memorial Day weekend was the worst. But I got right back into my routine on Tuesday.

I worked night shift for the last 2 nights which always leads to snaking, but I still managed to keep within my daily limits of 1200-1400.

That sounds like a great plan... I usually need to have my meals prepared. Otherwise, I will end up eating what I cook for my teenage boys... they usually eat pretty healthy, but Lasagna night is just not for me right now! =)

I had a rough week a couple weeks ago, but I have gotten back on track since last friday. I have been in range everyday since, except Tuesday (read my blog). Small bumo in the road, but I got right back in gear. Still need one more snack tonight to get to minimum.

The first few days were really hard! I wanted munchies, ice cream and hot cocoa SO bad, but I just kept telling myself I can have them if I want them... I will just try to put it off for a minute... five minutes... an hour... a day... a few days... now I've lost a few pounds and am motivated to keep putting them off... one minute at a time if needed!!!

1200-1550 range. Kind of had a hard time eating enough the first two weeks. Have to force myself to eat breakfast, I've never been a morning eater. I know breakfast is "the most important meal", but I just am not hungry. So I eat fruit now. Went out to dinner for my daughter's birthday last night and had 3 glasses of wine, thought I blew the calorie intake. But managed to top the day off at 1350! Have stayed between 1100-1250 most days. It's working, I'm down 8lbs.!

If I don't stay busy over the weekends, it is hard not to over eat. That proves that I eat out of boredom!

The weekends are by far the hardest for me, especially ones that have poor weather.....nothing worse than being forced to stay indoors all weekend long with not much else to do but eat.

I was laughing my way through Stage 1 of the SP diet, since I hit Stage 2 and had my calorie range recalculated based on my current weight, things have changed - 1500 - 1900 calories seems like soooo few to a 250+lb man

My calorie range is 1200-1550. I actually have a hard time hitting the 1500. I'm usually closer to the 1200 range which is fine but on the days I have a lot of cardio and weights I need to be closer to 1500 but since being on SP I've gone over once and it's because I made a very yummy dessert that I won't be making again until I hit my goal weight.

Does anyone find that the weekends are harder?

I am Diabetic, so I have a constant battle with carbs. One thing that my doctor told me yesterday is that I should never have carbs without protein. I had been in the habit of having a piece of fruit as a snack in the afternoon, and she said have half of the fruit with a small piece of cheese or some peanut butter or something. emoticon

You know what I was just thinking that today. My mother has diabetes (type 2) and I am so worried that I am heading down that road. So I was looking at my carb counts and they are way up. So I already did my plan for tomorrow and looked up some sparkpeaple articles and did my plan with less carbs. That really could be the problem. We'll see.

Carbs are addictive, the more you eat the more you want. Cut down on the carbs and the cravings will go away. At least that helps me, hope it works for someone else out there!

I am really having a hard time sticking to my calorie range. I just feel so hungry and crave junk. I want to stay away but it calls my name. I excercise everyday so if I could just get into my calorie range I will be fine. I do good most of the time just a couple days I go over.

Ok, just made a deal with myself regarding this calorie range thing. Everyday I stay within my calorie range I will give myself $1.00 and put it into a jar. When I reach fifty dollars I will treat myself to something or go somewhere. This will help me stay motivated. Hopefully. Is there anyone on board with me on this?

I put my range at 1500-1800, hey, I'm a big girl!

I'm having problems hitting that 1500 number consistently. I'll eat and feel full and don't desire anymore food. The last four days I find I'm no more than 100 calories below where I need to be and I'm making sure the portion sizes I'm eating and inputting match. The only day I went over was my first day and that was due to my leftover's from Abuelo's, oy. But it was for my BIL's birthday, so it was worth it.

Day 11 for me...I've been in my range (1200-1550) every day but one so far...Saturday...

Saturday we went to the Golden Corral (buffet) and I started out fine and then just couldn't resist the temptation. When we got home, we were excited to discover ALL of the nutritional info online so we could input the whole dinner. YIKES!! I went over b 500 calories but learned how to make great choices next time we go! Very eye opening.

I have been in range or below all week. But today is Saturday and it is my toughest day to stay in range. Last Saturday I just about doubled my calorie intake. So I have made it half of the day so far but I have the hardest part left. I am motivated to get it within range today.

My calorie range is 1200-1550 and I have a hard time eating more than 1100. I'm eating constantly as is. I eat a lot of vegetables, but nothing too starchy with a lot of calories.

I second RSGavin's baby carrot choice! I love them and they are so convenient so it is easier to choose them over something like chips or sweets.

Good luck!

Foxxy - I'm a big fan of baby carrots....they give you that crunch like a potato chip, they help fill you up and they are reasonable from a calorie perspective

Hello all,
I want to be in on this challenge too. I have been on my target every day but one. That was the second day. I am sure I will write more over the summer, or during the weekend. I am a teacher so it is early to bed and early to rise.

It is really good for me to have an easy way to record what I eat as I am Diabetic and this way I can see exactly what is triggering blood sugar spikes. The bananas that are so high in carbs don't spike my blood sugar, where as rice, bread and pasta do.
I am on track today...hope I stay that way!

Today is day 7 for me
Calorie range: 1200-1550
Stayed in range 4 of the 7 days, the other 3 days I
was under. Trying too hard I guess. My carbs were higher than my target, every day! Got to quit eating bananas for snacks!

I went a little over my calories on Sunday but did it to reward myself for a whole week of being inside the range. I am back on track today. I agree with a previous post that I find it easier to track during the day so I know what I have available later.

I blew it on Sunday, but kind of on purpose. I had been so good all week and even Sunday morning. The afternoon we had a family birthday party so I just tried to eat reasonably without stuffing my face. Where I blew it was with 3 glasses of wine and 2 pieces of birthday cake. Just for kicks I entered everything I could remember just to see how bad I had blown it... Oh, about 600 calories over.

Oh, but I am back on track today - and without much of a hassle. This is where I've changed a lot. Used to be when I fell off, I was off, but this time I climbed back on with relative ease. It's like I was okay with goofing up and allowed myself to be stupid for just a few hours. I am always way too hard on myself and demand perfection, so for others this might not be terribly impressive, but for me this is a huge leap forward.

So far, I've been able to stay within my calorie goal (1250-1500). The key has been to track as I go so I know what I can and can't have. I've also been brining lots of food with me so that I'm not tempted to stop and pick something up fast.

I'm hoping this lasts.

I blew it on Saturday emoticon

We were at a friends 42nd Birthday and even though I saved half of my calorie total of the day for that evening AND ate nothing but veggies (sans the dip) as snack foods (Props to Di for her tip of using "Tunnel Vision" while at the buffet table) I still managed to go over the high end of my range for 280 calories emoticon

It was my own fault as I had 2 glasses of wine and one beer (hindsight being 20/20 I should have at least substituted a third glass of wine for the beer) but even with that, I was still just in range until the Birthday cake came out - I couldn't be rude and decline that now could I emoticon

That's OK, I'm still happy with the first few days and with a new week beginning it is my goal to be on target for all 7 days

That's awesome that you've been in range on everything everyday! You have definite reason to pat yourself on the back! emoticon

I did okay yesterday... though I was a little low on the calories. I really sucked in the protein dept yesterday though. It prompted me to research some things that are low in fat but high in protein. I love that the tracker helps you figure out how to balance your food choices.

Ok, here are my stats for the week. I signed up on Monday. I have also included my ranges. I am pretty happy with my numbers, especially since I lost 5 Pounds. WooHoo. I really notices that once I saw the numbers, my behaviors changed, esp with my sodium intake. WOW. I have made some mental modifications to my numbers, like keeping my carbs under the mimimum, but still over 100, and staying on the high end of the protein range.

Calories: 1200 - 1550
Fat: 32 - 56
Carbohydrates: 163 - 236
Protein: 60 - 127
Sodium, Na: 0 - 2300

Monday 4/13 ~ 1653 calories, over by 100+; 39 fat grams, great; 289 carbs, YIKES; 40 protein, so not enough; hadnt started tracking sodium yet, sure it way high.

Tuesday 4/14 ~ 1470 calories, on the high end of my range; 51 fat, almost max ; 167 carbs, low end ; 102 protein, very good; 4266 Na, YIKES.

Wednesday 4/15 ~ 1362 calories, right around where I like it; 51 fat, almost max again; 145 carbs, VVG, 87 protien, trying to shoot for 100, 3661 Na, YIKES again.

Thursday 4/16 ~ 1359 calories, so far so good; 40 fat, great; 165 carbs, right on the money; 99 protein, pretty good; 1976 Na, Awesome.

Friday 4/17 ~ 1258 calories, lowest yet; 33 fat, Great; 155 carbs, excellent; 85 protien, gotta try to keep it at 90 I think; 829 Na, WooHoo

Saturday 4/18 ~ 1149 calories, ok not enough; 21 fat, WooHoo; 156 carbs, like to keep it around 150 for myself; 89 protien, a slight improvement; 2258 Na, had Smart Ones, and Boston Market need to be careful.

Hugs ~ Renee

I'm on day five. My calorie range is from 1400 to 1600. The first day I didn't change my eating habits at all - I wanted to see just how much it is I was consuming on a daily basis... 2,200 was the total - ayiii...

The second day I did really good and came within range a little above 1400.

The third day I forgot my breakfast in the morning so had to stop and get the "healthiest" thing on a fast food menu. This pushed me over the top of my calorie range by 21 calories by the end of the day.

The fourth day I did pretty good (too well) and came in 200 calories under my 1400 limit without any cravings.

This is hard! It's like balancing on one foot on a ball trying to keep in range. Today we were at a baseball game, which was REALLY hard with all those vendors walking by with hot dogs and beer and licorice and ... and ... and ... but I did okay.

I didn't see this earlier...

My calorie range is 1200 - 1550. I signed up and started tracking on Tuesday.

4/15: 550 calories over! And my fat grams were almost twice the highest end of my range! On the other hand my carbs and protein were right on track.

4/16: My calories were within range and I did fine with my carbs. But my protein was too low and my fat calories were still on the high side (though not nearly as high as the day before).

4/17: I went a little bit over my calories. It was the crock pot classics meal for dinner that did me in. I was low on my carbs, over on my fats AGAIN, but my protein was great. I'm definitely seeing a pattern of what I need to watch out for.

4/18: I went over my calories today but I knew I would... My birthday is Monday so I bought the birthday cake a little early so the kids could celebrate with me this weekend. I bought some low calorie ice cream but didn't even open it up... so I'm still giving myself a mini-pat-on-the-back. lol My carbs were a little over and my protein was in range. But what I am most excited about is that my fats were within range! I really made an effort to plan ahead... I wasn't counting on the early birthday cake today though so it did throw me off.

This is day 4, but the 2nd day that I stayed within my calorie limit. Well, ok, technically I'm 11 calories over, but I think that's pretty darn good considering what an overhaul this is for me. I'm extra proud because I budgeted for ice cream! I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be for carbs, fat, and protein and I still get to have ice cream! For the first time in my life I'm understanding how to have a healthy diet and not feel deprived. emoticon

I'm in!!

I'm on Day 3 and so far I've easily kept within my allowed 2210-2560 calories....the weekend may be a different story, but we'll see come Monday.

So for, it's the 8 glasses of water a day that I'm having the most issue with - I need a bigger bladder emoticon

I started tracking yesterday and I stayed in my range 1300-1600. Today I sort of preplanned my meals by typing in the foods I plan to eat because I have a party tonight and I want to know how many calories I will be allowed to eat while I am out. It looks like I can eat about 300 tonight, if I keep to my planned menu. I love this website! emoticon

Yesterday was my second day...and I went WAY over. I think. I went to the Turkish departmental open house, and they had tons of tasty but unidentifiable food. I have a lot of trouble telling how many calories are in what I eat = but I KNOW I went over, because I drank coke with it, though I never drink soda otherwise, and I hit that feeling where my stomach hurts like it's going to explode, but I can't stop eating.

Yesterday I didn't try, just tracked and went over 4 cals and too much fat...Today I didn't even come close to what I was allowed, but at the same time didn't eat much considered healthy:( Need to go grocery shopping this weekend so I can do better.
I was much more active today though and I feel good about that part:)

You guys are doing great!

4/16/08: Went over calorie range. I ate a piece of cheesecake. I knew better. I exercised like crazy after eating it, but still...unnecessary calories. :(

My calorie range is 1200-1550. I can't believe I stayed in my range. I did better than I realized although I do need more protein. I did make a conscious effort not to main line the chocolate chips and to leave the ice cream in the freezer. emoticon

Today was my day 1. I prepped myself last night and was shocked to learn that I needed to cut 1000 calories from my diet. I was even more shocked to learn that my M&M sundae had 500 calories in it. Today I have met my calorie goal of 1200-1550, but I feel lightheaded. Is it really safe for me to cut that much so fast?

I do not want to go beyond 1,200 that's the low side of what Sparks has me at until I workout heavier. I have stayed on track but just began here. Yesterday I barely made it to 1100

Bosoxbeauty,
I'm glad to hear that you like challenges. We can really have some fun and lose some weight, with challenges. You did great yesterday and it sounds like you are really on track today. Do you like almonds? They are a good snack and a good source of protein (in moderation).

I love a challenge, brings out the competitive side in me. My cal range is 1200-1550. Yesterday was my first day and went over by about 100 and had no where enough protein. Today I have about 800 left for dinner.

Hugs ~ Renee

ORCALVR,
You are aware of your intake, which is the biggest hurdle (in my opinion). Keep monitoring and making the necessary adjustments. It sounds like you know what foods to eat to fill you up without adding lots of calories. Keep up the good work. You can do it!

God bless,
Marilyn

I had lunch out at work yesterday, I thought I did pretty good until I logged it all! blah!
I usually do pretty well with high protien low calorie stuff like cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, fish (any kind, they have some great flavors in can and pouch that are great on salad greens!), chicken breasts and protein powder.

One of the components to weight loss is calorie restriction and careful monitoring. SP has wonderful tools to help us determine our optimal calorie range for safe weight loss and excellent tracking methods. Let's start this challenge off by reporting what our calorie range is and whether or not we stayed within it. Try to report as often as possible. Also, feel free to share any tips that you might have that help you stay on track. We can use all of the help that we can get. We are here to help each other. You can use the following template. Just cut and paste it into your reply and enter your own information.

Let's lose some weight!!!!!
