At a young age I could never get the hang of it, using a hula hoop, and never tried since. But maybe if I get one now I just might hule hoop myself back into shape.

Well, I was personally talking about the $4.00 Walgreens old-fashioned hula hoops. They are tough!

I read several replies before I realized you were talking about the Wii hula hoop --- I don't have a wii, but if i can afford it i will get one. For now, i will do the exercise bike, treadmill and few exercises with tension band.

You know, I bought one at Walgreen's yesterday. Couldn't keep it up off the floor. Then my 6 yr old grandson came in and within 20 minutes was hula hooping. I think it has to do with size in a big hoop--like someone else said. But I finally kept it up about 1 minute this morning and boy-your core gets really sore. This is a great workout!

I have to be Wii'd. Every time I go to the store to buy they sold out yesterday. Apparently they can't make enough to satisfy the market.

The last time I tried a hula hoop was a few years ago, but even then it seemed a lot harder than when I was a kid. As a kid I could hula hoop all over the neighborhood, walking, running, just about anything. Now it seems that I don't have quite the same ability to keep that plastic hoop in motion. Maybe my waist is bigger? I know my hips are! You would think then that I wouldn't have a problem keeping that thing going!

I LOVE hula hooping! There are some AWESOME YouTube vids of serious hoopers. they are amazing. I had a hoop designed for my stepmom for her 60th B-Day. She loved it! We have a local hoop group that makes small to huge hoops. The bigger the hoop, the easier it actually is. I've hooped with 6'across hoops (I'm only 5' tall). It's a great workout, especially when you start lifting one leg or work the hoop higher on your stomach - just under your ribcage. It really works your core and balance.

When was the last time any of you Wii Sparks tried using a real hula hoop? I am old enough to remember using one as a child, but at the same time, old enough to think that maybe it should be a child's toy and not a torture device for out of shape Mom's.

I was working out last month when the "Ellen" tv show came on. There was an actress who showed how she used a hula hoop to get in shape.

When I was in Walmart yesterday, I saw a hula hoop and bought one, thinking I could just give it to my children if I didn't like it.

Well ... WOW!!!

I had to google "how to hula hoop" first - because I am uncoordinated, but 10 minutes after spending just 2-3 minutes trying it out, my abs and lower back are talking to me.

That's a good thing! I did 10 minutes of ab work earlier this morning, but those few minutes with the hula hoop seed like more of a workout.

I'll try it a few more times this week and report back.
