I would love to do a 10M sometime. Never seen one here. Usually only 5K, 10K, half and some other distances for trail running, but haven't decided if I ever want to do trail running. Of course, we may be moving to the San Francisco area and that looks like it won't be a problem there. Looks like there are multiple races every weekend.

Fortunately we've got a series of 10 milers in Texas. I love that distance.
And thanks for the Sparkgoodie, Pasta!

Wish there were more 10 mile races in my area. It's either 10K of HM. Fortunately this year I planned better and just completed Philadelphia's Broad Street Run (largest 10M in the country) and 5 weeks after is the ODDyssey HM. I agree 10M is crucial in HM training.

Wow. Never expected this result. No one wanted to claim a spark goodie of their choice? Even of those who joined the 10M team?!

Hmm. Ok, instead I will just distribute team goodies to some team members randomly. If you got one, congrats!

PS: Next person to suggest a rationale for the next round of spark goodies will get one!

I will definitely join, not for the goodie, though! I just have an infatuation with any distance over the 10k. Plus, ten miles is one of my favorite long slow run distances - it's just enough to get a little uncomfortable but "short enough" to be able to push it a little bit. I am signed up for a ten (well 9.6-ish) mile trail race in July, so I look forward to seeing what the group entails.

I only know of one ten miler race this year in my area, and it's not until fall. That said, I figured out awhile ago that my city's circumference is just over twenty miles. The first two Saturdays in June, some running buddies and I are running each half of the circumference. Great half training and a new way to encounter my town.

Good question. Support is the goal. We haven't reached it yet but that's because it needs more people. But such a team would be an appropriate place to discuss 10M races, what makes them good or bad, 10M race reports, how to train for them, etc.

Notably, there is no discussion of 10M races in the HM team. And yet, 10M is a crucial distance because it falls midway between 10K (which many people can do with no training program) and HM (which is crazy to do without a training program). There are other key differences in the "Why 10?" article in the general forum of the 10M team that explain key differences between 10M and HM races and how the 10M team could address them.

Anything special about the 10M team? I am on a number of teams and don't want to add one for a spark goodie. Would rather add one because it is a good and supportive team.

You're being funny! I like the incentive. I would LOVE to run a 10M, but they are all in Chicago at times I cannot manage. I would love something closer to home. But I am still on the look out for this distance. Going from 10K to HM was a huge jump, and I only had two 10Ks and a 5K as a warm up. It would have been great to have a 10 miler before my first HM.

Your advice is solid. I am going to go search again.

I already received my personal chef, so I will return the favor and join the 10M team.

As an incentive to get people to better prepare for their first HM, I am offering a sparkgoodie of your choice to anyone who signs up for the 10M team. (If you don't want to contemplate 10Ms, then you're not taking HMs seriously. 13.1M is more than 10.M, right?)

teams.sparkpeople.com/10M

All you have to do is join the 10M team, post here that you have done it, and name your goodie of choice. To make it easier on me, also say which tab the sparkgoodie is on. Oh, and your page has to be configured to allow sparkgoodies. (Don't ask me how to do this configuration!)

Offer will continue as long as I have the points to do so! (And do not give me a goodie in return. That is not the goal of this offer.) Offer is good for people who have already done a HM, too.

Anyone living in a metric country ("We don't have 10M races in France!") or with some other excuse ("10M is against my religion") is welcome to join the team and do a metric equivalent.
