I find it hard to be self-disciplined when I have the freedom to do whatever I want.
My gains began after I graduated and began earning my own money to spend as I wished.
Stupid me.

And we all lived happily ever after...

My dad never said anything about my weight, but my mom always was complaining that I was too skinny until I got up to about 145. Then she happily said "Look at how fat my girl is getting." I kept trying to drop back to what I weighed when I went off to college and every time I lost a little Mom would start the baking. She never said I was fat until I was over 200. By that time I couldn't lose anything. Now I usually don't eat as much, but I can't get below 190.

Since I don't have any family to sabotage or support, I can't really say I have either happen except by me. My friends only have the food on holidays or birthdays, so they really don't sabotage me much.

When I referred to my family, I meant my husband and children.

My mom and dad are gone now, but they would not have pushed me to eat something fattening. They often tried various diets themselves.

I wasn't in to fad diets, though.
Once they were on a soup diet.
I remember when they were on one, my mom had encouraged me to join them. When I declined she said, "Are you HAPPY with your weight?"
-trying to make me face facts, I guess.
I had already faced facts, though. Fad diets were not for me.
My problem was 1. little self-control (I loved spoiling myself) 2. the foods I loved were not filling, so I'd always want more. 3. I was a busy momma of many Littles, with a husband who couldn't be physically active...so I was 'stuck' in the house a lot. I did work out, but it was not enough to make a break through. And I have always been a sluggish person due to my thyroid health.
Still, I wasn't horrified about my weight until 2014 when I piled on an extra 30-40 lbs because I did not have my thyroid medication.
I didn't think I look that bad at 200ish.

And we all lived happily ever after...

for the most part it sounds like there's a lot of support. And some who have the added struggle of going at this alone, if it weren't for places like SP. emoticon

If my mother lived with me, I'm sure she would try to sabbotage my efforts, just like you Darlene. When I was a teen my father commented on my "thunder thighs" even though I wasn't fat. And then when I lost weight, (weight training and running in high school; all mandatory for the class/PE) my mother said I was anorexic. I was not.

I too am doing this alone. I don't have saboteurs per se, but I don't have support either. And though it's been a long time since I've seen either of my parents, whenever I do, they always comment on my weight.

You are fortunate. I know my folks are gone now, but my dad would support me, my mom would push the high carb stuff like cakes, pies and cookies at me. I think she was so down on herself being overweight she didn't want her daughter to weigh less.

My family is in to fitness, so they are supportive. Though we each have our weaknesses.

My husband is very supportive. Even asking the DR how he could help. My daughter is head of trauma ICU and doesn't want to see me on her floor, so if I ned something for my heart he makes sure I have it.

I don't have any family to get support from. I don't get much support from friends because they like things that I really shouldn't have.

I just don't seem to keep going very well. I keep trying, but when I get down I end up eating what I don't need and shouldn't have. I am trying to keep up with the exercise, though I've had some problems with that recently.

DW and I work together on it and I can't imagine doing it without her. Since starting over a dozen years ago we've each dropped well over seventy pounds. DW just pointed out that between the two of us we've lost more than she now weighs. She's down to 150 and we've lost a total of 154. Yay!

In another thread the topic of support came up. I wanted to follow through on that. Do you get support through your family?

If not, how do you keep going to stay on your path to success?

Also, do you find that SP offers you support?
