I like my doctor. She's an Eastern Indian woman, very tiny, with a strong accent. She's very supportive of me in my weight loss struggles. She's overweight, but she keeps on eye on hers as well. We often talk about our swimming. (I don't even think of her as overweight, just an older woman..kinda 'grandma-y'.

My husband and his father have been known to be VERY outspoken, lol, with their former doctor. One day he admonished my father-in-law to cut back on salt.
Dad shot back with a comment about the time they saw him and his family out to eat...and using the salt shaker. too funny.

And we all lived happily ever after...

My doctor isn't overweight. I don't think that any of them I've had in the last 12 years have been. My PCP is a runner. She has given me diets to use, but I can't seem to stick to them. Mostly she just wants me to exercise more. She wanted me to do the stationery bike a few times a week, but that bored me and I saw those pickleball games and they looked fun, so I am getting my exercise that way. Hope she is okay with that.

I really don't eat a lot usually, I just eat the wrong things.

My doctor is not overweight. He really doesn't lecture me on not losing more weight. He has given me helpful hints & explained that two of my medications will make losing weight more difficult - not impossible, just more difficult. He gives me a Yay!!! every time the scale goes down a bit. I told him about SP & he checked it out. Then I told him about the nutrition classes at the hospital & he wrote down the information to pass on to several other patients.

Melody, your idea for a health-related thread is a good one. Let's do it!

Wow Jackie that's amazing. I have a friend, (she's young too), who had to have a knee replacement. She'd had surgery, but was still having issues and her knew doctor, (she moved to another state), recommended a total knee replacement. I haven't heard from her yet to see how it went.

We should have a discussion thread of how to lose weight though, because it isn't the same for everyone.

Yes, it was the first Dr. who identified that I needed knee replacement 30 years ago. He was a trim sports Dr.
I had been suffering with leg pains for a couple of years and it was not identified and in those three years I gained...It was at a time when knee replacements were almost never heard of - I had never heard and was appalled, but took his advise seriously because after suffering walking so long I could see a possible result - and he was right...I had the first then the second knee replacements back in 1949 and 1952 and they still work!

Now I weigh 22 pounds more than that first lose weight advise and I'm still trying to lose...of course, the key word here is "trying". If I were really trying I would lose...I know how and we all know how, we just don't do it...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

That's fantastic Linda! Good for you for speaking up and for him for listening and doing something about it. Who knows if you put more years back on his life?

MaryAlice, your doc gave you good advice. Two weeks ago I got chewed out on a keto team for having a (healthy) banana smoothie, because a banana has too many carbs. They didn't seem to want to acknowledge that we are all different and need to find what works for us as individuals.

I hope to be more supportive to everyone on SP as a result of their dogma.

The Dr that old me to lose weight, was not over weight, but has since retired. He told me that 85% of people that start weight loss either quit or gain it back and he thought that was because they made eating healthy and exercise another job. So I was never to do anything I thought was a chore. No fried foods, no concentred sweets and a 30 minute walk a day where my only rules. He said because my diet already was so restricted He didn't want me to restrict it more. He told me there was a lot of good info out there. Anything that sounded good I was to ask myself 2 questions. First does this sound like a chore and second is this something I can live with the rest of my life. The answer to those questions answered weather or not tried it.

Is your doctor overweight? Has your doctor recommended you lose weight? And did he/she give you a healthy food guideline?

If your doctor IS overweight would you ever question them how they're working to lose weight?
