Oh wow, Marge! Can't you eliminate some things from your busy life? I would NOT be able to do that!

Speaking of honest assessment. We had that during our Good Friday service last night.
We sang 2 or 3 songs. The Pastor said, "We've been talking a lot lately about 'You Can Change'. Now we are going to STOP talking. Tonight we are going to just sit here quietly and THINK. Here are the three questions we want you to consider during the silence:

1. Are you going in the right direction? (Where are you in your Walk?)
2. What is the first step (or NEXT step) in your Walk.
3. What is the Cost. (what sacrifices will you need to make to 'get there'.

At any time during this we could get up and have communion.
(the only thing I did not like was that they just let us leave whenever we wanted. I would have preferred a Closing.)

But I appreciated this quiet time so much. It's not often that we get UNINTERRUPTED QUIET MOMENTS.
It's not often that we PURPOSELY sit and evaluate our condition, goals, and plan.

Now that I'm 50, I'm not allowing myself to waste any more years in my spiritual OR physical state of being. I want to PURPOSE. And I want to ACHIEVE.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I love to eat and don't take care of myself as I should due to lack of time. Alarm goes off at 4:30 am. Out the door at 5:45 for work. Back home at 7:30 or later and in bed around 9. Sit way too much during the day. Try for a short walk at lunch but sometimes that means staying later at night because of train schedule. Been doing this for years. Fridays I work from home a little and babysit most of the day. That leaves the weekends. Saturdays are a crapshoot as to what is going on (work, babysit, chores, baseball from Apr-Sept, errands). Sundays are church, finishing up errands and chores and baseball games during the summer. I try to make time to exercise but . . . I found for me I have to be in the right frame of mind and be dedicated but I've been so tired for so long. Just one vicious cycle. I try to eat healthy but I have a tendency to snack due to stress. I bring my lunch every day to work. I only go out to eat maybe 4 times a month (once or twice with my daughter and granddaughter and maybe once or twice at work) and usually it's a salad or a burger here and there.

One thing I have to acknowledge (even with men on the site, sorry), is that my menstrual cycle really 'takes it out of me'. I have one week EACH month that I feel incredibly discouraged.
I have about 2 days where my cycle is so heavy, I can't really leave the house or exercise in ANY way. I have days before my period where I'm swollen, clumsy and even mixed up in the head!

A while back I decided to turn some of this into a positive. I declare my BAD week as a VACATION from exercise and a FREEDOM to sit and work on projects (art, genealogy, spark articles...anything during which I can rest).

My discouraging days, I call out my spark friends and let them know I need to be cheered up. I have them tell me a funny story or something.
I also, do NOT play the martyr. I'm in honest with my family when my 'female' stuff is doing it's number on me.

My cycle interruption has always been a huge roadblock to my weight-loss. Because it comes RIGHT after my good week of energy and commitment and happy attitude...then I crash.

I'm currently in a good spell and trying to get back on track after a very tough Feb and March.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Combination of these things:
1. lack of knowledge
2. Lack of self-control
3. Thyroid issues
4. Being busy raising little children in small home and little opportunity for good exercise. Hubby unable to be active due to severe back pain.

What a combination!

1. Now I know that certain foods MAKE me hungry and certain foods FILL me.
2. Now I have trained myself to have better control.
3. Thyroid problems still exist.
4. Kids are more independent and are not as large of a factor now. I can leave to go swimming, or take longer walks with them. House is large, more space for exercise. Access to sparkpeople and other exercise videos.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Before age of about 45 I couldn't gain weight. I didn't work at it but I was thin and could eat all I wanted (probably didn't want much). I ate high calorie foods too just to keep some "fat on my bones."

But, age made some changes and I started gaining a pound or two that stayed with me, then more and more...sometime in that gaining I thought maybe I should lose a few. I still was not overweight but it was a time I now couldn't lose it. Also, my life slowed down which was probably part of the reason...

So a few pounds every year was not much until I was almost 60 and overweight! Then I had to figure out how ...Sparks was a start. I've been down to low weight of my BMI but not now and that is where I want to be.

I had a minor in nutrition in college, and was a hospital dietitian in my work (still skinny tho) and gave diet advise to overweight patients ...just didn't follow that advise for myself.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Many of my problems stem from habituation to cigarettes of various sorts and adult beverages. The biggest problem of all, obesity, resulted from a now medicinal herb and it's tendency to make a fella hungry. I would eat a meal and have another for dessert. Anybody tells you that it's harmless, don't buy a car or real estate from that person. Obesity is flat out deadly. After getting a handle on all my other problems, I attacked the obesity and lack of motivation. It has taken a while and it has taken several different approaches, but I think I can safely say I'm pretty firmly planted on the road to normalcy. It's amazing what we do to ourselves in the name of "enjoyment" and the search for "happiness".

Mine was a combination of things. One I had been living on a farm, hard labor 12 hours a day 6 days a week. Then I moved to town, eating didn't change. The second is I had to quit eating meat. Then I asked about protein, I was told I didn't need near as much asI thought and not to worry about it. When I joined SP, one of the threads I was on was over weigh vegetarians. I learned that you digest veggies so much quicker then protein that if you aren't eating enough protein, you are hitting the snacks. I put my food in the tracker and discovered I was only eating 1/2 the protein I needed.

In your honest assessment, how did you gain weight and/or become unhealthy?

The challenge is to face it and change it. (or past tense for those maintaining)
