Thank you for the suggestion. My local hospital doesn't have anything about nutrition.

Years ago, probably about 2006, I met wtih a dietician at a spa and that was interesting. I know so much more now then then and would like to see what is being taught in these classes. I'm still learning so much, the more I continue to search.

STRNGNGRNDED why don't you check to see if any of the hospitals in your area have something like it? They give you a binder full of information, including all of the power points slides, the first week.

Sandy it sounds like a great class. I'd take a class like that. I'd be the nerdy person taking notes every class. LOL

You are very blessed to have a doctor so involved in nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

I have hypo-thyroid and was diagnosed at age 3. I have a gabillion of those symptoms.
Most of my symptoms did not go away with the medicine, and I had often wondered if it was worth it. Until 2013 when I lost insurance and had to go without.
It was the most horrible thing ever. I had a BIG eye opener that year. I am suffering the effects of gaining an extra 30-40 lbs from that year alone.

I now appreciate my meds and NEVER want to be without them again.

And we all lived happily ever after...

There are five women taking alternate weeks - a licensed clinical social worker, three registered & licensed dietitians & a physical therapist. So far, we have covered (1) why we eat, (2) carbs, protein & fat balance, and (3) meats & meat substitutes. We have gone over healthy alternatives in foods & ways we can make recipes healthier without sacrificing flavor. Four weeks to go.

I mentioned it to my friend & she wants to take it the next time they have it.

My doctor loves cooking & is very much into nutrition & healthy lifestyles.

I 've had almost al the low thyroid symptoms, and have taken thyroid for years - at very gradually increasing doses. Two of my sisters, nieces, nephews, and my brother and my husband are also low thyroid.

Almost $20 for a class does seem expensive. But not compared to what some people pay for pizza or whatever other fast food people order instead of cooking. lol
I'm glad you were able to take the class. And even better the doctor is looking into it. I found out last summer that doctors are not educated in nutrion and there are doctors currently fighting against having this changed.

What have you learned in the class?

That was supposed to be hypochondriac.

My diet has changed greatly the past few years due to my own research. I keep him up to date on what I'm doing & he makes suggestions. I'm currently taking a class called NEWtricious You at one of the hospitals. It is one hour a week for 7 weeks. I told him about it & he is going to check it out & recommend it to some of his other patients. I've wanted to go to it for years but it was $130. This is the first year they've had it at no charge.

I had to look that up. I'd never heard of hypochromic.

Did your doctor give any food/diet suggestions?

I had many of these before I finally talked to my doctor & he recognized immediately what it was. The medication for hypothyroidism has helped a lot. He just did a new test last week & adjusted my dose.

The reason I waited so long to talk to him was because I felt like he would think I was becoming a hypochromic. My symptoms were -

Weakness
Fatigue
lehargy
generalized weight gain
sagging skin under arms, chin or midsection
low/poor appetite
craving bread, pasta, chocolate, sweets
high cholesterol
brittle nails with vertical ridges
hair loss or thinning hair
dry skin
sagging eyelids
cold intolerance (need to put on a sweater or more covers while sleeping)

Some of the symptoms are just part of aging so I wasn't too concerned about them. Still dealing with the skin & nail issues but they are better. The dermatologist he sent me to finally has my hair growing again & I am grateful for that.
