I mostly try to make my food from scratch, but I also do have some processed foods like tomato soup or sometimes a pizza or now I have some garlic toast in the freezer and yogurt. Mostly I do try to keep an eye on the ingredients.

I am probably going to be ending up with more processed, though. I am not supposed to have lactose now, so will be looking into almond milk products instead.

I see that I'm way behind the game compared to you folks! But I'm learning. Processed foods are something that I've been becoming more aware of.
Now that things are quieting down around here (not so busy with young'ns or elder care) I would like to gain and/or strengthen my skills in these areas.

I know this, last night I ate some chips and lots of licorice bites, and my joints hurt soooooo bad when I went to bed.
Is there a connection (particularly with the licorice), anyone? I really want to know, but this is not my area of knowledge.

I eat an apple each day. Also eat 1/4 cup of mixed nuts most days.

Slowly and surely wins the race.

I had bariatric sleeve surgery a year ago this month. I concentrate on eating fresh foods around the perimeter of the grocery store. I have to eat three meals and 2 snacks a day. I have reached the my muscle weight and my lean body fat. I am low on vitamin D and have to increase my protein. This can be added with beef jerky, protein bars. I look for the sugar content and fat content on labels. Also, need to exercise more and I go to the gym early in the mornings.

For my family; I glance at the nutrtional facts, comparing calories to sodium ratio and then the sugar grams. Then I view the ingredients. I look for pure ingredients, not chemicals of things I can't pronounce or things like bromine which is in mountain dew which is used as flame retardant. Aspartame is another such chemical we avoid. I actually saw this in Vitamin C. sigh. HFCS is another such ingredient we avoid.

I like the homemade broth suggestion. I should do this too.

I am trying to eat more fresh or unprosessed foods. I no longer buy cake mixes, pancake mix, boxed rice mixes. Try to make more of my own things from scratch. I have even started buying "all- natural" yogurt. I also make all my own stocks and broths. I save all my veggie scraps in the freezer to make broth.

I try not to eat processed foods, but I still get bread. As for the others I eat nuts all the time, I have my food pretty much under control, sleep is good except when I close. Somehow it dosn't matter that I didn't get home till 11P, my body still wakes up at 5A

This week PROCESSED FOODS.

What processed foods go back on the shelves and which processed foods make it in your carts?

What do you look for?

Also, how is everyone doing on their previous goals?
food, sleep, going nuts?
