Terri - I know what you mean about sitting a portion of the day while at work. Some days I have to sit for that long, although usually only 2 days a week, or possibly 3 at the most, but it really is negative energy. I have tried to concentrate on sitting with good posture and holding my abs in, etc. I also try to take several "stretch" breaks when possible and drink a lot of water. It probably is good that we give our bodies a break at least some of the time, although I have to wonder if so much of the day was not spent idle, we might not have to exercise so much. On the other hand, we might not have the energy to expend if we had to be more active all day....who knows...

I hope everyone has a great day and a great week!

Happy Monday!

My last house had a great workout room with a 6'X7' mirror on the wall. I guess a basement workout room could be very nice, and it definitely would be cooler in the summer, but I'm still not sold on the idea. I have a workout room right now in a downstairs bedroom, which is fine. I have a large mirror, but not like the one I used to have.

Anyway, I have to get to work and get to my third cycle today. I think I am behind everyone by a few days, but I am doing my own crazy rotation.

Have a wonder-filled and joyous day!

Mistic :-)

Okee-dokee - today was my first time doing mesocycle III! Man did I love it! It was great. I was a bit worried about the long breaks after people whining about them on the Cathe forum - but they were perfect, I had no problem taking the full rest period. I think I may have to repeat this week though since I did take a few times to get my reps right at the beginning. We shall see. I definitely was struggling on some of those 8th reps. Whoa. Even with my power tower - one chest press I couldn't get it up to the power tower on the final press. Guess I had the weight right by that time. I know I have only done
one one disk of meso III, but I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to seeing if I get stronger by 5% at the end of this cycle.

Cheryl - thanks for the heads up on the gloves. I will try the 3 and 4 risers to see how it feels. I think that will be a good challenge. I am looking forward to double wave tomorrow - no step for this workout though. I kinda like that, makes my prep time sooo easy. And as I do my workouts before work it really helps when I have HIIT workouts - they are over so quickly, too. I am definitely looking forward to working out again. That rest/recovery week is really great for getting me ready to work out again!

I was amazed at the weight I was lifting...very fun to see how strong I have gotten.

I just finished Disc 28, Chest & Back. I felt really strong today - stronger than I did last Monday. What a great feeling! I had increased some of the weights last week and struggled on the last few reps towards the end of the workout. Today, they were tough but not a struggle. It is amazing how Cathe is helping us build our strength. I do have hope that I will look like I workout by having some muscles and definition that show - which is my goal. If not this time, then next time! Whoopee!

I would rather workout upstairs than downstairs, too. But the basement is cooler. We are STILL working on getting the workout room together down the basement, but whenever we get close something happens that delays it. But at least it doesn't stop me from working out. I want a bright paint, too, down there - and a mirror to check out my form.

I TOTALLY hear you on the workout room.
I love mine.
In fact - whenever I get the bug to go house or condo hunting (not for now, but for in the future)
I always LOOK for 'the space that will be my workout room.
If it doesn't have a nice space for me to spend my 2hr/day then I am not interested and will keep looking. So far....I'm still looking.
I workout 1hr in the morning (cardio/ST) and 1hr in the evening (dance/walk/yoga/pilates).
Sitting 6hrs of my 8hr day is negative energy and I hate that part.

You could always paint the block WHITE.....get a rubber-based paint like they use in the bottom of swimming pools and you can brighten up the dungeon.

Getting off here to go out there and bake some more this day.

Oh....just another thought as I am full of them this morning....I like the Heavy Bag Bonus!!! I have a heavy weight bag in my basement and almost NEVER will workout in the basement, but I did LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Heavy Bag bonus. My husband keeps insisting he will set up a GREAT workout room for me, but I will not workout in a basement- LOL. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have more room (for more equipment - wink), but I also like having a nice space to do my workouts. I guess because it is such a big part of my life and I spend 1-2 hours per day in my "home gym", I just don't want to feel like I'm locked away in a creepy, crawly dungeon!!

Ok, that's really enough chatter. Good luck with the tan, Terri!!

Terri- LOL, LOL.....I just hate it when I discover I am working out 7 days a week!! I also usually try to take Sat or Sun off, although I ALWAYS do something active like taking the dogs for a long hike (now that the weather is better) or snowshoeing, etc. Today I hope to get in a nice run while my DH rides his new bike, although we may have some rain the forecast.

Chaz- The weighted gloves are from Power Systems. I would highly recommend them over any other weighted gloves I have tried (and I have tried quite a few!). I don't like the wrist weights because they started to cause some discomfort and would slide around while doing cardio. Also the wrist weights compromised my grip while lifting. The Power System weighted gloves are somewhat closed in the palm, but loop around your thumb and stay put while punching and jabbing (and while lifting weights). They also have the weight over the back of your hand, which I think is much more comfortable when lifting weights. I use the 4 lb pair every day for cardio and generally I use 2 sets per year (they cost about $20 + S&H). I have to get rid of them after about 6 months because they get a bit worn out from constant use, however, to date I have not found a better weighted glove. I hope this helps!!

Ok...I'm off to get some exercise!! I hope everyone has a great day!

Terri - Shock Cardio IS alot of jumping around - it really wears me out, too - more than stepping. I THOUGHT you always worked out 6 days a week - it's nice to mix it up a little, that's for sure. The Legs workout in this Meso is definitely tough! And I forgot to tell you - thanks for the other recommendations of your favorite workouts - I'll take a look at those, too.

Mistic – SORE is such a good thing when doing Cathe isn’t it? and we go back for more. emoticon

Chaz – I am doing Meso #3 and loving it. I have always worked out 6x/week, but usually on Sabbath I do something other than Weights. During Meso #3 I do Legs 2x/wk. Plyo on Wed, and Squat on Sab. I’ll have to take a second look at the MMA DVD. I haven’t been using SCS workouts the last three weeks. I like the older cardio better...my workout space is just not conducive to so much jumping around.

Loved the sunshine today. NICE.....even got a tiny bit of a tan. WooHoo.....

Tekmistic: I'd like more info on the weighted gloves that you like. I would like to use them for kickboxing, walking and ST. I am thinking I'd probably use them for for WT because I would think of them more when I want to add a couple pounds. With aerobics, I probably would start, then think of them! Do they have an open palm? I hope not. I'm going to check out the wrist weights, too.

Terri - Are you still doing the Meso 3 workouts but breaking it up differently? I guess I'm not sure what you were saying - I thought you were already working out 6 days a week. One the Shock Cardio MMA: Boxing, there's a Heavy Bag Bonus section of the workout. You should try it even if you're not a fan of kickboxing - I liked the prancing around on my feet - it made me feel light and goofy. Maybe it was my mood, too.

My favorite time to workout is about 7:30pm. But my schedule rarely works out for me that way anymore. I used to sleep like a rock no matter what, but as I get older, it is getting more difficult.

Chaz,
I was just reading your post and noticed you were looking for weighted gloves. I got mine online and actually like them better than the ones I ordered from Cathe. The have a thumb tab, but don't restrict your hands as much, and definitely are more comfortable if you plan on using them while doing aerobics. I love B&G, and don't think you will be disappointed. I am also SORE everywhere from this rotation - LOL. I also wanted to buy the pink Everlast boxing gloves, but have to wait until next month.... :-)

Let me know if you want more info on the weighted gloves.

Have a great and wonder-filled day!

Chazmo – 'Heavy Bag Boxing'--- that’s a Cathe workout?
I’m just not a fan of boxing or kickboxing.

I can’t workout heavy at night or I wouldn’t be able to sleep. I need to do something in the evening after sitting all day, so I do workouts at night, but walking, dancing, Pilates, yoga....things like that. I do my cardio/ST in the morning.
It gives me energy to get through the day.

I love my High Step. I got it with a coupon about a hear ago....and the slant risers.
It makes my BENCH a great height.

I love my GS....and the ‘unnamed series’....I wish they’d name that one....the one before 4D-Split. Love them too....LIC, B&G, BM2, DrillMax...they are wonderful with lighter weights, but a HECK of a workout.
Did you get the coupons?
I use wrist weights.....they work fine for me.

Gotta get to bed.
Tomorrow is Heavy Legs. This Mesocycle I’m working out 6d/wk. Legs twice....Wed = Plyo, Sat = Squats. I am using the Cathe Vest. Love it. My BFF gifted it to me. I love it!!!

Nite.

At the local sports store, they had pink Everlast brand boxing gloves - they would be so much fun! I just bought the High Step though, because it was on clearance.

Just finished my ST Shoulders, Back and Triceps (I think Disc 27) for the week! Yippee! I really needed the stretch, too, because my shoulders were so tense today -- I couldn't wait to work it out. It was a tough workout but not a sweat-dripping workout like the Legs workout. I really can't wait for sleeveless weather to hit here - and it will be soon - to see if anyone notices the tiny biceps showing in my arms.

I've got an order pending at shopcathe.com. I'm definitely getting the Gym Style dvd's and the Butts/Gutts workouts. I'm just stewing as to what else to get because I get 20% off each workout for purchasing 4. Then have about $14 more to get to $100 and get free shipping, too. I tried on 4 lb microload gloves by Altus at the sportstore which look almost the same as the Cathe ones - I really didn't like them - I think I'll look for ankle/wrist weights around here that are more comfortable and I can try on.

Just did 16 minutes of Heavy Bag Boxing - I'm surprised Cathe doesn't have her bag and pink boxing gloves for sale! It was fun - I started it at 9:40pm and had to quit at 10pm because our house is so open and kids wanted to sleep and not hear my heavy breathing! What I did wasn't a strenuous workout, but it was good for me because it was late at night and I've been having trouble sleeping lately (must be age.)

Yes, I did try LIC - I really like it - I almost forgot about it, though, with all the new Shock Cardio workouts. I love the Upper/Lower Body, too - the premixes are great on the dvd's!

I keep talking myself into getting the gym styles when there's a sale, then out of them because overall, the gym styles are pretty similar to the upper/lower body. Decisions, decisions!

I didn't get home until 9:30 but still wanted to workout. I hopped on the treadmill for 18 minutes - that's all I could handle at that late hour - but I'm glad I did it!

Today was a beautiful sunny spring day - a good day for thinking about fitting into those summer capris and bathing suits! That's what I need for motivation!

I am dripping with sweat after just finishing Disc #26, Legs. Cathe warned us that it was also a cardio workout so lift lighter weights - with LOTS of plyos and jumps! I did it, but I was counting down every rep. I was greatly relieved at the end of the workout when Cathe admitted on the dvd that it was one tough workout. I was glad it wasn't only me!

I started Meso 3 tonight, Chest and Back - Cathe is great! I did some abs workouts last week and I'm so glad I did because I think it helped me lift heavier tonight.

I wrote down last time that she said, "if you can do 12 reps with this weight, it's too light. Since we're going to failure, it's okay to get to 6 or 7 reps with the heavier weights." That gave me the push I needed to remember to add 10 pounds to my barbell after I did my warm up sets. There was a few times later in the workout that I could only do 7 reps. I'm definitely lifting 10 pounds heavier in some exercises than last April when I did Meso 3. Woo hoo! It's great to get older and stronger!

I think these workouts are longer because of the rests required, so I'll definitely have to schedule more time. Cathe reminded us tonight on the dvd that if we skimp on the rests, we won't build the muscle this mesocycle is intending to do - and I want to build muscle - I want to LOOK like I workout! Yippee!

I started Meso #3 this week. WooHoo! My body is definitely liking Meso 2 & 3 better than Meso 1. I'm giong to do Plyo Legs at the end of the week because of time restraints it's the shortest and I have the least time then. But anyway I am definitely showing more muscle in my back, arms and shoulders. DH said my back is really defined. I have gained weight and it's not all muscle but that's because I've been having a meltdown lately with food. Hopefully I can get it all together before I finish. But I plan to do it all again soon. Maybe a 3 month break and start again. I cannot believe how strong I am. I did 16# concentration curls today AND 12# cross body ext, 42# barbell curls. Unbelievable, that's all I have to say. LOL!

I have a lot to go Healthy Vegan. I'm finishing up Meso 1 this week. I had to restart because of an injury. I was also doing the six month rotation. Somewhere during my second rotation I hurt my back. But I thought the pyramids would fit for a good muscle confusion after STS. Also the fact that you can work each body part twice per week would also add to the muscle confusion. I don't know, just a thought.

+2.3# Increase in muscle mass

The math doesn't quite add up , but the measurements and the mirror reflect a muscle increase.
I gained .5" on my biceps and 1.5 inches on my bust/chest.

My body does love the heavier weights and fewer reps.

Next rotation I'm going to be doing Body Blast...
using the heaviest weight possible and might shave off a few reps from what Cathe is doing.

Gotta get...break is about over.

I like the idea of the Pyramids afterward. I may follow suit.

How much more do you have to go Pauline?

Anybody else finished STS? Results?

Healthy Vegan, I'd call that mega gains. Congratulations, you did really well. I'm afraid I'm not as disciplined with my eating as I am with my workouts. So I know I won't do as well. But I should drop some fat. I know what you mean about not really being able to build muscle while dieting. I wish I could get to goal so I could actually eat and gain all that muscle.

I think I'm going to do the Pyramids for rotation when I finish STS. I think it'll be a big change and I will work each muscle twice per week so that will also be some muscle confusion. But I've got a long way to go. LOL!

I'm behind in my abs workouts for some reason. I have one left to do today, and will probably get in 2 next week with my yoga and runs. I'm totally looking forward to them. I've been sick, and I've also been having some trouble with my left forearm. I think part of it is carrying around a 18 lb kid on my arm all the time. lol
Last recovery week I just did Cathe stretch. This week I think I'll do the Sara Ivanhoe Yoga workouts from all star workouts on fittv. Can't wait. I also need to plan what I'm doing after that. I did find some worksheets that list all of the exercises in each dvd, but not always all of the reps. That is my goal next week- get ready for my next rotation.

So where will we chat when we aren't doing STS? Will it be back to the regular Cathe Fans forum?

I have #36 and #40 to get in today....these last two weeks with convention and catchup at work put me two days behind in my workouts....
So TODAY is it.
I just want to start my rest week with the ability to REST....lots of Yoga, Stretching, and RESTING.
My muscles worked hard this Mesocycle and they are definitely stronger.

Next Rotation is going to be the Body Blast Series, possibly mixed with CTX (depending on when it gets here.

I have not been able to get it to work. I should be exercising right now, but I'm here as I wait to see if cathenation will work for me. So far no luck though.

Congrats on the weight loss and body fat loss.
All I can say is that I'm stronger, but I haven't eaten super clean. I'm not going to try to lose this last few pounds until I'm done nursing which won't be for another 6 months or so.

Well, I'm off to finish STS yea. Hopefully the little ones will cooperate and sleep the whole time.

I haven't done my final weigh in, but yes, I did lose a fair amount of weight. However, I think that was largely diet-related. I ate a very clean diet.

I started out at 164.4 pounds and 31% body fat and this Monday I was at 129 pounds and 22% body fat.

I plan to go through STS again while not on a weight loss diet plan, to try to put on more muscle. It's hard to gain muscle while losing so much weight.

I had no problems with the workout manager this morning. So do you feel like you've made a lot of gains other than strength. Less body fat?

Were you able to get into the Workout Manager KFEARS? So far I haven't had any luck.

I finished the last STS workout today! It seems like the 3 months went by so quickly. I will definitely be running through the rotation again in the near future.

Anybody else finish?

I hope cathenation's problem is fixed by the morning. It was not too big of deal yesterday because I wasn't changing any percentages on legs, but for tomorrow, I'd like to look at it. (Actually I guess we are just back a week in weights right. Maybe that won't be too bad either then.)

I want to head over to the forums over there and ask if anyone has non sts strength workouts on a spreadsheet with number of reps listed for each exercise. I have some here on SP in the workout manager which I could transfer to Excel or something. I just want to be able to print them off so I can better judge a weight I should use. Plus on some of them I have listed here, I got lazy and didn't write the number of reps. Surely someone has done that in all of the Cathe fans there are out there right? I just don't spend enough time online especially since adding the 2 little boys to our family - go figure. lol

I know exactly what you mean about STS keeping you on schedule, even if you don't feel like working out. Just another thing I love about STS.

I tried to open Workout Manager in both Internet Explorer and Firefox last night, and as of this morning they are still on the "One moment please" message. Not sure what's going on.

I couldn't get past the one moment please message all day today either. I finally just pulled my information from what I had written down from previous workouts. Actually the page still says One moment please, and I exercised 8-9 hours ago.

Today was plyo legs. It was super hard for me to have the motivation to do that today because I am sick, and I knew it would be hard. It was, but I Have to finish my last week right. That is actually on ething I love about STS. It makes me do my workout even when I don't want to because I don't want to get off schedule. THe thing I've been bad on the last 2 weeks have been my ab workouts though. They have been hard to fit in. I've still managed to get 2 a week in though, I had just wanted to do more. I really should have gotten one in today but didn't. Hopefully I'll get it in tomorrow and then one on Friday.
OK, enough of my babble - except to say that I love plyo legs. (Even though it was super hard today.) I love the heavy weights and the cardio. I'm thinking of keeping it in my rotation between my STS rotations.

I think the server is really slow sometimes. But it should've loaded eventually.

Thanks for the advice Chazmo, anything is appreciated. I do have some wrist weights, which don't really fit on my wrist but I can put them on the weights or in my fingers. I also have the ones from beachbody.com, so I can add those too. Friday or Saturday is Disk 12 Legs, haven't done that one yet. After my week off I get to move to hypertrophy, I can't wait. Woo Hoo!

Is anybody else having difficulties with the Workout Manager? Last night I logged on to try to print out my workout card for today, and I could not get past the "One moment please" message.

This morning I tried again and had the same problem. I tried different computers, different browsers, rebooting, cleaning my cache and cookies, etc., and I could not get it to load. As a result, I could not print out my workout card, and had to make some guesses about the appropriate weights when I did the final Plyo Legs workout today.

Anybody else have this problem?

KFears - We women are always multi-taskers, no matter what we do, aren't we?

Pauline - hey, we're glad to have you here! I would say the things that I've learned are most important are:
- drink plenty of water;
- eat as clean as possible and work on dropping the mindset of rewarding yourself with junk food after a good workout;
- stretch before and after each workout;
- focus during the workout; but be sure and write down your weights that you're using each time
- don't be afraid of taking that "me" time to do the workout;
- don't make excuses not to do the workout - "just do it!" and you'll be sooooo glad you did! I have definitely seen results because I've done most of these during the 3 mesocycles. (I'm not perfect by any means, just I just trying and tell myself that I will never give up trying.)

I'm sure there's more - so someone else, feel free to join in...

I just finished Chest and Back tonight. Very nice! I could feel some tightness in my right chest muscles from the last 2 weeks so I took it a little easy on some of my weights. It was frustrating, sometimes the weights felt just right, sometimes I felt I could have gone heavier but was afraid that I would injure the muscle. I need to get some adjustable wrist weights, so I can just add a pound or two next time. (Pauline, I guess that's something I've learned, too - it's important to get something - gloves or wrist weights so that you can add 1 or 2 pounds, when needed.)

Weight loss countdown:
15 pounds to go!

Don't force the numbers, they'll come. My job today is to adhere to a winning pattern of action that I know will produce results if I follow it consistently. (hussmanfitness.org)

I agree Chazmo, I think, stretching really helps to get less sore. I would love words of wisdom from any of you that have gone through it all.

I was so strong today, I increased my weight on most exercises. Woo Hoo! I did Disk 8 Back and Triceps. I used 10's on bilateral triceps kickbacks. My God, I can remember when I could only do 3's. I feel so far behind everyone. But that's okay, at least I'm not hurting anything. I think. My back is awfully sore after back and legs but so far I don't think it's a bad hurt.

I just finished #33, Shoulders, Triceps and Biceps. I was behind last week, and wasn't able to catch up. I had a few twinges of sore muscles when I did my triceps extensions, so I made sure I really stretched after every single exercise today. That REALLY helped. I get so caught up in writing down the weights and comparing what I did last week, so that I can get everything right, I don't think I stretched enough last week, and I felt sore.

I've really learned how important it is to stretch during STS, and lifting heavy weights - if asked, that's definitely what I would tell anyone going through it. Does anyone else have any word of wisdom for someone else doing STS?

I wish I had the strength to go and do #34 right now - I'm so pumped! I'm definitely going for a walk - that will release some of that pent up energy that I have! Cathe rocks!

I started the last week of meso 3 today too. I do not have heavy enough weights to do my flys and one arm rows. I will have to look into the plates option. I had purchased some larger ankle weights for my wrists thinking they were micro load, but they were not. I was very sad. Anyway, on the weights I couldn't do heavy enough, I just added reps. I was only supposed to be 2 lbs heavier than I had, so it wasn't a huge difference, but I did want to see some progress.
I too miss my other fun workouts Terri. Although I really want to start STS again, I also want to do all of those for a bit. I figure I'll take a month, maybe 2 off - especially with vacation in there, then come back to STS. I just have to figure out a rotation. I do so much better when I plan it all out.
Redoing 1rms right now should be super easy right. Technically we are lifting the max we can for 8 reps this week - plug it in and the 1 rm is done. (For all of those exercises anyway.)

Started last week of STS today. Going back to 8 reps with the heavier weights was challenging - a great way to finish STS!

Completed # 34 this morning. GREAT STUFF....

I've been re-doing my 1RM for two reasons....
1) I'm much stronger than I was the last time I did them (way before STS got into my posession)
2) Cathe has fine-tuned the software....it's now RIGHT. :o)

I won't be purchasing any more weights.
I will be purchasing more plates to 'make' heavier weights when I need them. It's just to expensive to get yet another set of dumbbells that I can only use for a few reps ... when I can buy more plates and use them for the bar and/or the dumbbells.

I'm getting ready for my next cycle.
Not sure exactly what all it will include, but it will DEFINITELY be a combination of all the heavy lifting workouts I have (except STS....I'll do this series again Sept 6 thru Dec 19)
I do want to do a similar style in my next three rotations....I just really miss some of the workouts like Drill Max...Low Intensity Circuit....these do use lighter weights,.....but they are very effective.

Gotta get myself to work.
