Holy cow, Ladubose, you rock!

I didn't get my workout in yesterday. I had a noon deadline that I missed by 1 minute! Such a bummer. But I did do disk # 14, legs this morning. Felt soooo good! Oh yea, I LOVE legs! Definitely my favorite to lift is lower body. Although with meso II it's all good.

Ladubose that is too bad you have the dread factor going on with the legs. I hate it when the dread factor creeps into workouts. I wonder what it is, too. I think one of the reasons I love to do leg workouts is because there is less prep time and faff for legs than there is for the upper body. Don't have to worry about moving the step around - going to incline (now that I have my tower - it has made upper body much more enjoyable, too - pull ups and chin ups are much better).

I love the wall squats with the ball from meso I except that I had to move a bunch of things out of the way to clear space against the wall - nice not to have to do that for todays leg workout.

Hopefully you'll like meso II legs better - you do trisets - 3 of'em. Which means you do 3 different moves with very little break, then get a 1 minute rest, do the same 3 exercises again, 1 minute break, and then one more time. There are three of these threesomes. Really fun and you definitely can get the weights right - if for any reason your 1 RM are off. And it is over in 48 minutes. I am hoping I'll have DOMS tomorrow - I had a little bit of DOMS from disk # 13.

Ladubose - hope you have a great workout with KPC! emoticon

My goodness Ladubose - how did you do it all? You're making me tired just reading everything that you did yesterday. I bet if I took your Pilates class I'd be moaning, groaning and collapsing on my mat, too! Then "throwing" in Disc #7.

Have fun skiing while some of the rest of us are getting our fun cardio in by shoveling. Grr! (I'd rather be skiing - or sledding - or tubing!)

You did have a banner day! emoticon emoticon

I wasn't able to post yesterday either! Super Busy lately and never got on the computer at all! emoticon which maybe isn't a bad thing as it can be such a time warp some days...

Yesterday was a banner day! I taught my Pilates class and had everyone groaning and moaning and collapsing on their mats! Then I took my daughters skiing for a few hours, got home and threw in STS Disc #7 Chest, Shoulders, and Biceps! emoticon

By evening I was happy that my DH suggested going out to dinner and a family movie night! (The girls have a winter Break this week so no school all week!)

We are heading back out to the mountain in a few hours again and then I teach Pilates again tonight! I think that will be all for today...maybe some shoveling and cleaning up the house.

Have a great day everyone.

Chazmo: Great idea to get your cardio in! I really am reading more and more about the effectiveness of Hiit to burn fat but retain muscle! Good for you for not giving up despite your many obstacles..

Smiles: 3X around for STS! Wow you must have seen some vast changes in your body...hopefully!! emoticon Please tell me you have!!! emoticon

Musclemom: way to go on KPC! I am going to do that tomorrow or Friday I think...

Wasn't able to post yesterday at all - due to shoveling snow to be able to get out of the driveway, vacuum cleaner going caput, etc. I dropped DD at v-ball practice then went to my mom's to do a cardio dvd. I could not figure out how to get the tv to switch over to play the crazy dvd. After about 4 frustrating minutes, I decided to do my own 20 minute HIIT workout with jumping jacks. 50 jumping jacks, then a 30 second rest, then 50 more until I reached 20 minutes - I ended up doing 600 of them. Good cardio workout in a pinch!

I missed you guys yesterday - not being able to join in posting. It's great to come back and see everyone going strong.

Circuit Blast today.
I didn’t have yesterday off.
But I’m taking a SNOW DAY today and have tomorrow off.
I will be getting a lot of things done around here – one of which is SHOVEL.

Chaz – Mesocycle #2 legs are much more difficult than #1 were IMHO.

Ladubose – This is my 3rd STS cycle since it came out in Feb 2009. It never gets old...Cathe is just like that.
I’m using this thread for the general CHALLENGE chatter and the specific STS thread for the specific workouts.
emoticon it is so easy to get over-posted here in SparksVille. emoticon I have to set a timer emoticon

Becky – It is wonderful, isn’t it?

I managed to get in STS Disc 9 legs yesterday and Pilates Inspired Abs and section #3 of Stretch Max with the Stability ball before my Valentine's Day Dinner with my DH. To be honest I had a hard time motivating for legs. I had even switched in from Sat. to Sun. and I had to really talk myself into doing it. I usually love working my legs, but it hasn't been my favorite in STS. I can't put my finger on why. There are some really cool new moves that I like, and I am really feeling the work with DOMS so I should be psyched, but I am not. It is a little of a dread factor there for me right now. Hopefully I will move through it soon. I really did love the leg drills on the end of that one though they were really great! I would love to do a work out that is all the drills at the end put together.

Well ya'll are getting me so excited for Meso 2! It will still be awhile as I am doing the 61/2 month rotation and I have that two week spring break issue to contend with, but I will get there soon enough! I also prefer less reps and I would say heavier weights but as I am lifting heavier on some exercises here with the 1Rm's I can't really say that. I have also been supper tired lately, sleeping deeply and grabbing cat naps. I think the weights I am lifting are pretty heavy for me and I can really feel the toll on my energy.

Chazmo: I love the idea of your worksheet for the fridge. I might try that out as well. It is a good idea!

Jillian: yea! I really wanted to stay with you guys and I didn't want it to be redundant to post two places! I need to revisit KPC. I blew a big chunk of change in July and got a bunch of DVD's from Cathe. Including the Intensity Series and the Body Blast Series, so I got through every DVD at least once and a couple more than once, I remember liking KPC but it is vague in my memory...
I am on a roll with the KB right now, thought of doing Kick Max again and I am glad you reminded me of KPC as well! Did you make it through V-Day ok? If you want check out my blog about learning to love oneself..

Smiles: is this the 2nd time through STS for you? That glitch would drive me nuts 4DS is one of my favorite series, great workouts and perfect for the days when you want a short but intense cardio and/or weight workout. And the premixes are endless, tons of workouts for the price!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon on the weights! I too look to see how much they are lifting. (It was nice to see that the guys are lifting more this mesocycle.)

Thanks, Chaz, for letting me know I wasn't alone on worrying about getting going again. When I first had to stop, it was really hard, but then I started to really enjoy doing my barefoot cardio and no ST. Too funny how I can so easily adapt.

Good idea to get in your STS workout, it is so tough to get behind a day. I am a bit worried with having ST on Mon, Wed, and Fri - last mesocycle I had one ST on the week-end and only two days during the week of ST - which is just easier somehow. Getting everything set up and broken down plus the workouts can be challenging and still getting to work on time. I found that if I got everything out the night before that really helped with me getting in the workout in a reasonable end time.

I also really love the extended stretch so I need to tack on that extra 15 minutes at the end of the workout.

I think my barefoot cardio really helped me out. I ended up doing it yesterday, too. I have a feeling I will keep sneaking it in because it makes me feel so good! I think part of it is all of the shoulder back workout she does - I sit at a computer most of the day (and into the evening) so it feels so great to work with my shoulders back.

Jillian - We seem to be on the same page - needing a nap, and I also wondered if I would have trouble getting back into STS last week. I think Cathe knew that and made that Chest, Shoulders and Triceps workout extra special. Congrats on improving from the beginning of meso 1!

We were snowed in today so I thought I'd better get another STS workout in because the rest of the week could be interesting trying to catch up on life's activities. I just did Legs #17 - my legs were shaking and I was so sweaty from that workout! I lifted 15 lbs on every exercise except for the alternating plies, where I used a 20 lb weight. It was especially great because I looked hard and some of Cathe's crew were using 12 lb weights - that made me feel great!

Sigh of contentment, I did disk # 13 this morning and it felt soooo good! It was afraid I would have trouble getting back into it STS after my week off, but I was really anxious to start lifting this morning. Yea! I loved chest, shoulders and triceps - especially using my power tower! Yea, no push-ups. I know I "shouldn't" say that, but it is nice to have a break from them. I am hoping after meso II I will be better at push-ups. I could tell I had improved from the beginning of meso I to the end of meso I, but I really enjoy chest presses!

Whoa, I just took an hour and a half nap, too, Chazmo! Weird. I just woke up. Not sure what that was about. Luckily I could since it is a holiday for me. Hopefully I won't need to after each ST session! I am lifting Mon, Wed, and Fri for meso II- so obviously my work would not be too thrilled with me falling asleep while at work. emoticon

Terri - I love meso II as well. Today I am doing disk # 13. I am soo excited that this time around I have my tower to use.

I like meso II, too, just a little less stressful moving from exercise to exercise and I enjoy lifting heavier with less reps, too. But it is all good!

It is nice that today is a holiday - I think I will do some cardio after STS today since I have the time.

Ladubose - glad to see you over here! I'm glad we are all together again.

Chaz – A Nap...what a wonderful gift to yourself . I’m grateful that I’m able to log my food into the tracker during my lunch. if it weren’t’ for that – I wouldn’t be able to do it. Time is so limited anymore...I think it’s because I keep adding things I LOVE TO DO to my list.

Julian – Holidays.....I celebrate Mondays and the 1st day of the months. Oh, and birthdays. The rest are just another day to me. They do keep the card and gift companies in business though. LOL Way to go on the 30/30

emoticon Disc #16 for me this morning. I really LOVE Mesocycle #2.....just right for me.

Aloha women! Well I started mesocycle II today. Took me awhile to get myself to do it. Feeling blue about Valentine's day - can't wait until this holiday is over!

I did 30/30 and it flew by. I can tell I have just had an active recovery week! Then I was actually a good girl and did my medicine ball abs. Sometimes I either forget that there is an ab workout or I just put it off and often end up not doing it. But not today! And then since I was feeling low (still - not fair after a HIIT workout, you'd think those endorphins would kick in!) I decided to do my barefoot cardio workout. I still love it, even after doing it for 6 days in a row! I am going to try to do it on my rest day during meso II, if I can. It really does make me feel good.

Ladubose - I too really enjoy 4DS kickbox, and my favorite kickbox workout is still KPC. I am looking forward to the cardio this week - a week without Cathe was tough! It was so nice to see her today. CCC and step moves this week...FUN!

Smiles - talk about glitches - that javascript void is one of them! I just hit the kicking emoticon and that came up as well!

I took a 3 hour nap today - obviously I was exhausted! I don't know if it was because of the heavier workouts, or what! My muscles aren't that sore - I must not have gotten enough sleep during the week, I guess! Or, I'm wondering if the extra weight I lifted last week took more of a toll on my body that I had thought.

Just finished Disc #16 - Whew - what a killer workout but it feels so good! I love STS!!!! I really like this Meso, too, with the back off sets - I feel strong!
emoticon

I'm going to post a worksheet on my fridge starting tomorrow to get in 3 fruits, 3 veggies, 3 lean proteins, and 2 whole grains so that I can put a checkmark beside it - to keep track of it. I'm hoping that will be a good reminder everytime I go into the kitchen of what I want to need to eat.

Legs are singing today from the leg workout yesterday (disc #13).
Over the last year I have definitely lost leg strength.
FOCUS....at least I know where to focus.

Loving Mesocycle #2.
It is so different from Mesocycle #1 in that the focus is on building mass rather than endurance...and Mesocycle #3 is for adding strength. I’m very glad Cathe designed STS to be able to be done separately or as an entire series. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.

I’m still posting my overall challenge on the 2010 New Year – New You Challenge thread.

sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=4762x341x30R>495748

I left it stickied so everyone could find it. Mystic posted a Feb challenge here under the challenge forum if anyone is interested in that also.
So much to do – so little time emoticon

LADUBOSE - 4DS is a wonderful series. Unfortunately, there are a few glitches in the ‘preorder’ DVD’s. Some of the remote prompts do not work every time.....there is a way to get around it, but I forget the order of buttons we are supposed to push....I looked it up on Cathe Nation and couldn’t find it....so, when my DVD’s get contrary....I simply pull them out and go by chapters. Saves frustration when they FREEZE in mid-air.
Chaz – what is “javascript:void(0)”?...on your post before the kick-ur-butt lady. Kathy has quite a few kickboxing programs throughout all the series. Not my favorite – but definitely works up a sweat.

Gotta get going – so much to do – so little time emoticon emoticon

I didn't realize that the 4DS had a KB segment. (I don't have 4DS). I have Kick, Punch and Crunch - which I love, too. Hope your ankle feels better soon!

well decided to go ahead and jump over here even though I am still on Meso 1, since most my check in crowd is here now!

I did 4DS Kickboxing Cardio only and wanted to keep going so threw in SC: MMA Boxing as well! Super fun, although now my right ankle is a little cranky at me for jumping up and down for so long!~ emoticon

I have to say 4DS KB is still one of my favorite workouts, it is so high energy and Kathe seems so much lighter or something in that one....It gets a lot done is a short amount of time and the fun and intensity never seem to wane. emoticon

I will be doing legs (Disc #14) tomorrow.
I missed it on Wednesday ....
Wednesday was a rather upsetting day.
Tomorrow will be legs in the morning and LOTS OF YOGA in the afternoon.

Finished Week 1 of Meso 2! I just did back and biceps - I'm going to have to add a little more weight next time - I'm happy to say! My barbell curls were a little easier this time - I could really feel my core muscles kicking in to help stabilize my body as I lifted. I REALLY need Cathe's weighted gloves - 2 more pounds on each arm on many of the exercises would be a good jump rather than 5 more on each at this stage, I think.

I'm still a little sore from Wednesday's Legs workout and last nights HIIT workout. I'm excited for the rest day tomorrow.

I didn't get to start my cardio until 9:45pm - I felt energetic but lost some momentum after I got started due to the lateness of the day. I powered through 20 minutes of the 30/30 HIIT workout, though! That will do - and I'm proud of it!

When I popped the dvd in, I was confused at first because I didn't expect legs, even though the dvd label stated it. It was weird starting the first few exercises and wondering how it could be working Back and Biceps - when I was doing squats. It was a weird feeling!

Then I surprised myself and lifted 5 pounds heavier on most of the exercises tonight - yes!!! I am still a little sore in the chest and shoulders from Monday night - which is welcome because I know I'm building some muscle!

This year when I go the grocery store I am focusing so much more on what's on the label and what's IN the food - rather than just reading the number of calories, proteins, carbs, and sugar on the label. I am learning so much on sparkpeople - and that I CAN do it!

Terri -I love this mesocycle, too!

Cardio with DH - MMA Kickboxing - I love it and worked up a sweat! I really have to concentrate to get all the moves - and I still miss some.

Welcome, Becca! I just did Disc 13, too. My triceps and shoulders REALLY felt it. But it felt so good!

It's funny, but my right arm and shoulder isn't as strong as my left. I'm surprised because I'm right-handed. Anyone else notice a difference?

I had a bit of a stressful day - and I didn't get to STS until 9pm - but it was wonderful to look forward to doing it and knowing that it would relieve a lot of the tension I felt!

I started Mesocycle 2 yesterday with Disk 13. It felt good - I missed STS with the recovery week. I think I'm going to like this mesocycle. I didn't have to run around trying to get my next weight in place before starting the next set like I always seemed to be in Mesocycle 1.

Okay guys - I'm posting here because I started Meso 2 today - but I'll keep checking on Meso 1!!! I hope others will join us and me in checking in - it's very motivating and I love/need the accountability!

I missed my first workout yesterday due to the Super Bowl and other activities. So, I just did a 23 minute workout to Cardio Core Circuit, so I could do the 1st workout of STS Meso 2 tonight. Wow! My girls are off school today due to the snow and fog - and they had to leave the room because I was panting too loud and driving them crazy! Now that's what I call a good cardio workout!!!

Will post later regarding my strength workout. I will do it and eat healthy today!

I agree. It's much easier to get through the workout without stopping because it's the 2nd time I'm doing meso 2.

I'm up to 14 Legs.

I used my kettlebells to do squats because it is much easier to hold then dumbbells.

I, too, enjoyed having the longer rests in between so it was easier to change the weights...until I did legs...and I found it even harder to make the changes than mesocycle 1 because there isn't supposed to be a rest in between the trisets. I had to keep hitting pause. Oh well.

I really want to get a vest, too. I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and get one.

I really can't wait until I get the push pull tower though ...I can't lift as much as I need to for the chest because it is too difficult to get the barbell up and down if I have the weight I need. Oh well, next time I do STS I guess.

I started Mesocycle 2 today with disc 13. I liked that you didn't have to change out the weights as much so it easier to keep up with Cathe.
I think I need to look into getting one of those vests. I was doing 35s for the squats which is close to the max for my forearms. I could probably have moved to 40lbs on the calf raises but my forearms were to spent to handle it.

Terri, I have the XVest, and it goes up to 40 pounds. I bought it specifically for weight lifting. Sometimes I use it for hiking too: but for that, I never put more than twelve to fifteen pounds in it. Once I started STS, my poor wrists and hands were giving out so much earlier than my legs, so I had to do something :) 20 pounds is about right. It's not that hard to take the vest on/off with 20 pounds in it, and it significantly reduced arm pain. A 25 pound quick change or more starts to be challenging in and of itself!

I also think that, on lunges, the weight is better balanced this way than when I hold it all in my hands. Less swinging.

How much weight does your vest hold?
Cathe had one featured on QVC - it was 10# max.

Hi all - I put Meso2 on pause a few weeks ago, finding that combining it with a crazy travel schedule was pushing me into overtraining. Decided to put myself on a 'maintenance' schedule of strength training for the two days a week I was home, rather than attempting STS under those cirs. Now that I'm back to travelling every other week or so, with at least three-four days at home, I've restarted. It feels nice to be back :) Fortunately, my strength is about where it was, except for biceps.

As to the weighted vest, I love mine. It helps me get a real challenge for my legs/glutes on without burning out my forearms. So far I use about 20 pounds in the vest, putting the rest of my load into dumbbells.

Pauline, I think you're very smart to hold back a little if you were getting crippling DOMS. It's possible to improve without becoming unable to walk!

I did not use a weighted vest yet. I'm doing fine with all the weights that I have been using. I had a bit of trouble with Meso 1 and the DOMS. They were so bad that it turned into bad pain and that pain stayed for 2 weeks. I couldn't work legs. It was very depressing. I finished out Meso 1 without doing legs and the I did it again when I was able to work legs again. Now I think I'm babying myself a little with Meso 2. But I have felt that same pain again while doing cardio after I thought I was healed. But the DOMS are not as bad with Meso 2 as with 1. I think Meso 2 is more like I'm used to. I'm lifting really heavy though. It's surprising the heck out of me. Ha, ha!

I'm in my recovery week from Mesocycle 1 right now, but am jonesing for ST already. I am supposed to start mesocycle 2 next Wednesday and I decided to come check out this thread to help me deal with this recovery week. I too, am a bit nervous about it. But I am sure I will love it just as all you have.

I want to get a weighted vest - and I wondered if any of you used a weighted vest for this mesocycle?

I'm really liking Meso 2 better than Meso 1. It's more my style of lifting, 3 or 4 sets, a little heavier and slower, all one body part. Yes, I'm liking it!

Good work with that! It's got to be so complicated to have to manage all those schedules ...

Today, Meso 2 week 2. We switched up to 75% of max, and I really felt it. Gulp, Legs next.

It worked out OK. I got it done anyway. I did the 2 longer workouts after I put the kids to bed. With no DH at home that wasn't a problem. I had to shorten cardio to get it done at nap, and I was glad plyo legs was short, but I got it all in there.

I do Stretch Max and some different Yoga stretches on my Weight days.....I LOVE Cathe....but, I can only take so much of the Extended Stretch workout.
I wish she had a different stretch segment for each mesocycle....but I utilize the stretch programs that she has already recorded.

Keep up the GREAT work ladies!!!

KFEARS, how did it work out for you?

I agree on doing cardio late. I can do it when I must, but it gets me rather wired and cuts into my sleep. Strength training relaxes me. Funny, some people say that it works just the opposite for them!

Stretch max sounds like a great idea. I keep saying I'm going to add in some stretch, and then it turns out that dinner gets in the way (I like to do STS right before eating). There are a few new yoga dvds waiting for me to open them, also ...

I finished off STS Meso 2, week 1, second time through, yesterday. Tomorrow - week 2 begins!

Thanks Shadowpup. I think I may be able to workout at night after I put the kids to bed on the longer upper body workouts. I can usually get away with lifting later and not get too worked up. It is cardio I can't do late. The legs workout is still shorter, so I think I can get it in at nap time and be ok. We'll see. If Monday doesn't work, I'll be taking a few extra active recovery days. :) At least this time I've been very good about my active recovery days. I've done a Stretch max on every one of my weight days and gotten some fun cardio on those days as well like ddr or another new wii game called outdoor challenge (lots of running and jumping.)
