Before my VGS surgery I was on metformin. Not sure if it was the cause of my headaches because I suffered migraines all the time for many years.

Since the surgery, I was taken off metformin, but before surgery I was given Jandice (new drug) and I can not if I have any major side effects. It was also suppose to help me loose weight, but it did not help prior to surgery...sigh emoticon

I don't eat a whole lot of fruit. I know I eat one that isn't so good, but is high in potassium. Not much on peanuts, but didn't know they were that bad. Cashews might be a problem at times.

I am trying to find out what some vegetables are like that I don't remember if I have had or not.

Be very selective about fruit, definitely no tropical fruit and the less sweet the better. Also, stay away from peanuts (not really nuts) and cashews, which are higher carb. Most other nuts and the highest fat dairy (cream, butter, triple-cream cheese) in moderation.

FANCYQTR...thanks for your information...I've been bad only in not exercising like I was.
But I felt I've been doing good with my food, eating more Wild Fish, organic greens.
I'm sure soon you will get back on track with what you need to do & I'm sure when you do it will make a good difference with your glucose numbers. Take care

Hope the new med works better for you. When my doc took me off metformin she said she didn't want to put me on the other med, which I think was Glyburide (sp?) because that one makes you gain weight. Guess she figured the one you are on now would give the same side effects the metformin does for me. So I just need to get things under control with diet and exercise alone. Then she said no grains, sugar, potatoes. Can eat veggies, fruit, meat, fish, nuts, dairy, eggs. Dairy and nuts are more limited. I have been bad and need to get back on that.

UPDATE: Saw the diabetic doctor yesterday & she took me off Meformin & Victoza she said if in a week the headaches are not gone she will refer me to Neurology.
The new med is called 'Janumet' not sure about it as Janumet has Metformin hci in it...but she said there isn't anything else she can give me.
Maybe I need to find a NEW Diabetic doc....anyway my fingers are crossed for the new meds.

Hi BOBBI_60...how long has your husband been on Metformin & does he get headaches everyday? I also use Victoza & it gives me headaches too, sometimes I use one & not the other still get headaches & when I use both meds it's like a migraine & I'm useless for the rest of the day, I think that is why I've gained some weight.
But thx for your info. :)

I stopped taking metformin and then went on Avenda and stopped when it was recalled.I heard Victoza is a bad drug with major side affects.Eat less carbs and get off your drugs! No drugs and exercise works for me. No headaches just super anxious with bathroom issues.

HOUNDLOVER1...Good advice I will try it, I see my diabetic doc this 20th see what she will do...I started on these two new meds in Sep. & when I saw her in Jan. she said to decrease the amount but it hasn't helped. Victoza is said to help with weight loss, but since taking it I've gained 5 pounds, I do nothing except for lay down & nurse these headaches & I'm not one to get headaches.

DBELLE39...Yes I drink over 64 oz of water a day, it's pretty much the only drink I drink in my day with the exception of a cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

Thanks everyone for your comments & advice... emoticon

I've been taking metformin for several years, no headaches but occasional tummy upset. Are you drinking plenty of water?

If metformin causes headaches for you just drop your carbs lower to where you don't need it.

I used metformin and had no headaches from it. I've been getting some since dropping it that I think are from too many carbs. It's been when I have too many I get headaches. I had to quit the metformin because it causes diarrhea.

I use Metformin - have very occasional headaches but I don't associate them with the med. Is it listed as one of the side effects?
