Suggestion on the strips, save up a few days worth and then tests before and after all your meals on a day. Try to make the meals typical. If you don't like what you see, save up a few more days and test with better choices.

Once you know what you can eat, you won't need to test often, so you can burn through a few strips getting to know what works.

THANK YOU!
Sadly I cannot test my blood sugar very often because health insurance only covers twice a day, and in actuality they don't send me enough to do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice. I am going to try to go much lower.

I did manage to lower my A1C to 6.4 by cutting out (most) processed food.

i'd like it to go down more, and perhaps go off of some meds.

I would highly recommend that you use your blood sugar monitor and your doctor over the nutrition tracker. It is most likely a bad idea to increase your carbs to get into that range.

I am eating between 20 and 50 grams of carbs a day and have been at 50 grams for the last two years. I am now reducing to 20 grams/day to get my blood sugar levels where they need to be, out of the pre-diabetic range. I don't you can go too low on carbs with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Just make sure you adjust meds or insulin if you take them by measuring very frequently, before and after every meal.
I base myself on the recommendations of this book:

Enough carbs based on what? I eat my veggies and let the rest of the carb numbers go as low as they want. I'm probably eating a better balanced diet than ever before, but my carb numbers are considered low by sparkpeople's (very bad, probably based on the ADA) recommendations.

does anyone else have trouble with finding an appropriate amount of carbs.

we have decided to (mostly) eliminate processed foods, and i am trying to go (mostly) gluten free. which cuts out the usual Fiber One bars that I used to rely on. and Dreamfields low glycemic pasta.

i am finding that i often don't have enough carbsó i am HIGH on protein, and fató but, sometimes too low on BOTH calories and carbs. (OF COURSE, there are other times when i am way HIGH on all of them!)

so, what i am trying to say is (finally!) i am struggling with a HAPPY MEDIUM with all of my food. within range of it all. is anyone successful with this?????

AND, do you have any suggestions for additional carbs that aren't toooo high? or snacks that are gluten free that you have tried.
