Take as much time as you need. Every race is different. My first ever race was a trail race and I even had trouble walking for a couple weeks.

But the three week rule is a good one. As you become more experienced, you will know how much time you need.

After my first half marathon and my first marathon I followed a three week recovery schedule. I took the first few days after the race completely off, and then gradually added some walks and short easy runs.

What does everyone advise as far as recovery time? I'm running a half marathon on Sunday! I've been working hard since January and got up to running a little over 20 miles a week. I plan to start training for an October full marathon mid-summer.

What recovery practices do you all follow after a major run like this and before starting another training program?
