I already posted this in the team talk thread, but wanted to post it here as well - There's a team here on Spark that is great for tips on saving, with a thread for accountability. It's SparkGuy's Savings Jar Club.

Wow, you've already mentioned things I'm already doing...I only drink a cup or two of coffee (black during the week, half & half on the weekends) in the morning and the rest of the day it is nothing but water. Once a little bit ago I saw they brought diet vanilla coke back and was tempted to buy a 12 pack for $3...but then I stopped: 12 pack for $3 or 1 gallon of spring water for 50 cents...am I CRAZY?!?! Never even touched the 12 pack...lol

Already use cold water washes, take short showers, turn lights off.

But here's a biggie I'm going to work on this summer: we spend an INORDINATE amount on fuel oil to heat our home, despite keeping thermostat on 55 degrees 95 percent of the time. Our house is terribly weatherproofed...we need insulation blow in, new energy efficient windows and other strategies to keep our fuel oil costs down...we're spending $350 a month YEAR ROUND to heat our home during the colder months...ugh!!

It's the last day of our Sparkiversary week!

One of my new goals is to get my finances in better order. So just for today, I challenge us to only spend money on things that are absolutely necessary.

Here are a few ways to save:

...Walking to places that you usually drive to (saves money on gas AND burns calories)

...drink another glass of water instead of that diet cola or Starbucks coffee.

...turn off the lights when you leave the room.

etc., etc., etc.!!!

What others can you think of?

How will you spend the cash that you save? ;)
