I know doctors have to be on the safe side now, I KNOW, but is this normal or is this over kill?
I had GD with my first pregnancy and it had nothing to do with my eating habits and all to do with my weight and active kidney disease (my kidney disease took me from 25 pounds overweight to 50 pounds overweight). I was placed on 10mg of oral insulin and it barely worked, but I was close enough to my due date that they didn't want to put me on shots unless it got real bad.
With my new pregnancy, I'm in better shape (still overweight though) and have been exercising throughout the pregnancy (9 weeks along), but because of my issues last time, they want me to:
1. Even though I have been discharged by my kidney doctor as cured, do a 24 hour urinalysis with a full CBC.
2. Take THREE 1 hr glucose tests throughout my pregnancy (today, at 18 weeks and at 28 weeks if I pass the first two, otherwise TWO 3hr tests at 18 and 28)
3. Get a First Trimester Screening for reasons unknown to me (has nothing to do with GD or kidney disease)
4. Visit my nephrologist again, even though my last screening in Feb of this year all came back normal AND he discharged me as a patient (he told me that pregnancy will NOT bother my kidneys)
