On line? Mostly Firemountain.

Have you ever started a project and then ended up doing something completely different with the beads?

No, they have not called me about it. But I am amazed at how fast the small orders add up. Then I feel really bad for making so many bead purchases, that I really shouldn't. It is an obsession.

What is your favorite online bead company to purchase from?

Yes, sort of sounds like 99% of my stash. But good news, all those sand dollar charms I bought several years ago and those silly little sterling fish I bought last year just got a beautiful carved stone starfish pendant at yesterdays bead show and now I've got a new project to start today.

Have you ever bought so many beads on your charge card that the company called you about possible fraud on your card?

Yes. I like to mix metals. I am making a pair of earrings for a friend with gold, copper, & silver mixed with her favorite color, blue.

Have you ever given up on a project and set it aside, then got it out to try again and decided you still couldn't finish it?

Yes, sometimes you can use a bead cap to cover the broken part; but I have also used the broken bead in a polymer clay project (push the broken side into the clay and no one but me knows).

Have you ever multiple colors of metal in your project (ie mixing gold & silver or copper & silver, etc.)?

Oh boy, definitely. Many times. Whenever I vacuum, I get tiny seed beads rattling around in the vacuum, even if I try to double check and pick them up first.

Have you ever stepped on a bead needle that got hidden in the carpeting? (I have, and for the record, it really, really hurts)

Yes I have made beads of polymer clay and discovered that polishing them in a tumbler with give them that lampwork gloss look.

Have you ever dropped a bead and just never been able to find it in the couch/carpet/etc no matter how hard you looked (until days later)?

Yes, and it was a lot of fun - burnt finger tips and all. I saw this chinese lantern like bead in a book, couldn't find any for sale, so took a lampwork class at the local bead store. Expensive ($95), but I got several bead out of it.

Have you ever made beads out of polymer clay? (could have made those lantern and would have saved myself a lot of money, smiles)

Yes and No - no bottle caps or anything that different but I have woven with crochet thread and used buttons as fasteners. Saw a belt someone else had bead-woven with simple white four-hole buttons as part of the design. The buttons were sewn on with tiny seedbeads. I thought that was interesting. I tried to put in our photos section an example of my using colored crochet thread but it did not work. I'm going to try to put it on my Sparkpage instead.

The new profile pic is an example of using colored crochet thread with clear plastic beads. Of course they have to have large holes but the effect is of using a lot of red when, really, only a few of the beads are red.

Made dicroic glass beads? No, unfortunately. I've never tried making lampwork beads of any kind because of the problems in my hand (carpal tunnel/tendinitis). I have used dicroic glass beads in my beadwork, though.

Have you ever used non-traditional beading elements in your design (for example, use something like bottle caps)?

No. I have not used bone but I have some. Have had them for years and still don't know what to do with them. They are small, doughnut shaped beads with ridges carved into their sides and tiny round ones that are probably meant to be spacer beads. Mine do not smell though possibly newer one would.

No, CKAY, I have never felt the need to bribe anyone with my jewelry, but I have given away much more than I've sold and I imagine that created some good feelings, especially in my SIL's when I let them choose necklaces from my collection.

HYE made a scrapbook of beading designs and tutorials or collected them in a notebook?

I have a co-worker who wears huge gaudy cheap plastic earrings, or colored metal ones where the paint chips off. I guess you can tell that I'm not really fond of her tastes. Anyway, one day she came to work wearing this really funky (cool)necklace and I wanted to make something like it. So I took a picture, but never made the necklace. There's a jewellery vendor near my job and I often take a look at what they have. When they get a new cashier, I take that opportunity to pull out my phone camera and snap away. I have tons of pics of their designs that gave me ideas that I might want to use in my designs. The new cashiers don't have a clue that you can't let people take pictures. And they don't catch on that I never make a purchase.

But getting to the last question, have I let someone take a cell phone pic of my jewel? Yes, I have, once when I was shopping at Michael's Crafts. They were disassembling their bead room and everything was on sale. The sale was excellent, $3 and $4 beads were going for 10 cents! I went CRAZY. Anyway, another shopper and I got to talking as we scrambled to snatch up any bead we could find and she wanted to take a pic of my necklace so I said 'sure'.

Have you ever given away your jewellery work as a bribe, like to gain favor from a teacher at your kid's school or something similar?

God helps those who help themselves.

No, I haven't actually wanted to take a picture, but I have quickly made notes and drawing on the notepad that I keep in my purse.

Have you ever allowed another to take a cell phone picture of your jewelry?

No, I don't think we have worn it out.... I just know that this past week has been a busy one for me and I haven't been around much, personally.

Though if someone thinks of another game to play, that's fun too.

Answering my own question - no

Next question - Have we just about worn out the "Have You ever" topic? As many members as would like to can answer this one. If people don't want to go on with it I'll put up a stop sign and we will think of something else to do.

No, I usually take off my jewelry when I'm cooking.

Have you ever thought you invented a beading technique and later seen others using it who could not possibly have copied from you?

BTW - This question is inspired by the fact that I thought I had made up this game and later went to the leaders' message board and found several variations of "Have you ever . . ."

Yes, but not with beads. I recently took an upcycling class (using recycle materials) and we cut, folded, and formed a piece of metal from an old coffee can into a ring. I don't normally wear rings, but it does look really cool and if you don't look inside, you don't even realize what it is.

HYE - wire wrapped a pendant or stone?

I posted on another "beady" group that I was thinking of making a victory necklace to wear after I lose my 12 pounds. I guess that would be a way of motivating myself to do so. I'm thinking of using a triangle-shaped, gray-speckled rock as the centerpiece. The rock will be turned point-down so it looks like a V for victory.I will bead around it the same way I did the cameo on my SparkPage. Maybe 12 small beads between each pair of larger ones. I plan to begin before I actually lose the weight - one section per pound lost. Haven't started it yet.

Now if you're still with me after that complicated answer, I'll think of a question to ask.

Do you know how to do peyote stitch?

Silly? I've put them with feathers and clipped into my horses mane & tail for some trail rides (not all).

Also, I meet with a weightloss group and we are using beads as motivation to loose - everyweek that you loose weight, you get to pick a bead from a bowl of (east) indian beads and hopefully create a bracelet or necklace.

Have you ever used beads as motivation to lose weight?

Yes, I had take a beading class. I took a basic workshop on basic techniques and steps as, elastic bracelet, basic most simple necklace, basic earnings, closures and toggles. Then I kept going to the bead store and buying beads and findings to make my projects there while they supervise me, comment and critique. This was a great learning experience while I made very good friends.

On what beading technique have you taken a class?

One person posts a question and the next person answers "yes" or "no" and can make more comments if they wish. Then they add another "yes" or "no" question. The main purpose is to discuss our beading experiences but it is okay to throw in a question on a different subject sometimes.
