I was on vacation for 2 weeks... I haven't been able to track my workouts. But it didn't mean that I wasn't exercising. I have been walking an hour to and from the beach and circuit training for an hour 3 times a week..

NO It's not too late. Welcome!

Jess- You don't have to worry about reaching the goal for calories burned. The point of the challenge is to motivate everyone to burn calories. You can set your own goals by the end of the week.

Hey Jancie - I'm glad there is another person in on the challenge!!

I burned 603 calories working out tonight. Now I have to figure out what I burned just doing regular stuff for the day. I'm afraid I won't reach 5000 since I started late but I'm definitely trying!

I walked for 80 minutes sunday (305 cals) and walked in a parade for 45 monday (171 calories). I meant to bring my HRM to work to see how many cals I burned in the 4 hours...I rounded what I had calculated before for 2 hours of work (350 cals) I will try to remember it tomorrow to get a more accurate number.

Had a rough weekend with friends and family and memorial day eating ...blah.

I was wanting to get out kayaking today but there is bad weather coming :(

Ill have to do some videos later!

only at 521 for the week! (just monday) I need to bump it up!

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to back out of this Challenge. I just finished going through all of my emails and realized that I'm starting 2 Challenges on Wednesday and one more Challenge just might finish me off. I just get so excited when I see a new Challenge and forget about the work that is involved. Maybe I can catch you on the next one.

Yayy! Glad you both joined in! The last time I did this challenge, I lost 6-10 pounds on it. It looks tough, but when you add everything activity, it's not a impossible task. But, as I get closer and closer to my goal weight, it's harder and harder to lose at the same rate.

You can track your fitness in MyFitness on the sparkpeople page, but not all activities are there... so here are 2 great sites that I use to help you:

I'm up for the challenge. I'll do my weigh in tomorrow morning. I have one question.....is there any easy way to find out how many calories you are burning as I don't have an electronic device to track this? Thanks for having this challenge.....sounds like just what I need.

Summer is almost here!! I have a great challenge that was very successful in the past.
Add how much you have burn over a week—including shopping, cleaning the house, playing with your children, cooking, driving, etc.

I did this myself for a month and dropped so much weight. I know it seems a bit much to burn, but it adds up by the end of the week. As you all know, in order to lose a pound by the end of the week, you much burn 3500 calories… If you burn 7000 calories, then you will lose 2 pounds that week.

Every week (Saturdays) post the amount you have burned for that week. Example:

May 30- June 4— 5051 calories burned

We start tomorrow, but everyone is welcomed to join in at any time.

This Total Body Makeover Challenge is also going to include some strength training so you can look toned for the summer. I know many people are afraid to incorporate strengthen training into their workout plans because they feel it will make them look “bigger” or “butch,” but that isn’t the case at all. In fact, adding some strengthen workouts help you to lose more weight, lower your body fat, develop stronger bones, create better posture, etc.

Here are some health articles to explain other benefits:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/strengt
h-training/HQ01710
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-
training/HQ01627
Do’s and Don’ts:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-
training/SM00028

****TOTAL BODY MAKEOVER CHALLENGE******

Cardio for the Challenge:
May 30- June 4 —5000 calories
June 5- June 11— 6500 calories
June 12- June 18—7500 calories
June 19- June 25—6500 calories
June 26- July 2—5000 calories

Goals:
*Add one new activity per week, such as play basketball instead of cardio for that day.
*Add some strength training (recommended 2-3days a week)—Sparkpeople has a great program to get your body ready for the summer (there’s also a “bikini diet” and warm up and cool down workouts if anyone is interested).
Here’s the article:
https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitn
ess_articles.asp?id=433

You can create your own strength training plan, but focus on your “trouble spots,” such as hip, thigh and/or abs.

Strength Training:
By using 3-8 pounds into your workout won’t cause you for look bulky; it will make you look lean in you bathing suit.

Also, adding about 10-20 mins between your cardio with strengthen training will enhance your workouts. For example, I warm up for about 10-15 mins with cardio, then starting with leg workouts (to keep my heart rate up), then abs, back, arms, and back to 30-40 more mins of cardio (including a cool down). You can also separate the workouts.

***This challenge is focused to motivate you to keep moving! If you can’t make it for a certain week, don’t get discouraged. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!***

GOOD LUCK! Anyone up for the challenge????
