Your challenge this week is to get those servings of fruit in! The team that eats the most servings of fruit by the end of the week will gain immunity from eliminations!

EXAMPLES OF FRUIT SERVINGS:

Apple: ½ large (3.25"diameter), 1 small (2.5" diameter), 1 cup sliced, chopped or cooked
Applesauce: 1 cup
Banana: 1 large (8-9” long) or 1 cup sliced
Cantaloupe: 1 cup of cubed melon or 2 medium wedges (about ¼ of a medium melon)
Grapes: 1 cup whole or sliced or 32 seedless grapes
Grapefruit: 1 medium (4" diameter) or 1 cup sectioned
Orange: 1 large (3-1/16" diameter)
Peach: 1 large (2-3/4" diameter), 1 cup sliced or 1 cup canned and drained peaches
Pear: 1 medium (2 ½ per pound), 1 cup sliced or 1 cup canned and drained pears
Pineapple: 1 cup sliced, diced, or crushed, 1 cup cooked or 1 cup canned and drained
Plum: 3 medium or 2 large, or 1 cup sliced or cooked
Strawberries: 8 large, 1 cup whole, halved or sliced, fresh or frozen

Hi Ladies! I hope everyone had a great week!

Mine was okay, other than work--the restaurant I'm working at is having some major problems. We had a waitress quit midshift on Thursday, which left us slightly short staffed on Friday, which is our busiest day (Fish Fry Friday) and extremely short staffed last night, with a lot of big groups coming in. We then had a cook quit last night midshift. :( Somehow we managed to get through it all pretty well. At one point I had a two person table in the front dining room, a seven person table in the back dining room, and a party of seventeen in the back dining room! I got almost 16000 steps in and never had time to eat anything myself or even take my regular meds until late, but we did it.

I did have a small gain this week, which I was expecting, since I was super sick and not eating much at all last weekend, but it wasn't too bad. 1.8 more pounds and I will have lost 20 lbs from my starting weight this summer! I'm hoping to hit that by my friend's wedding on October 6th.

Your challenge this week is to master the basic plank! The team that has the most members that get to a full 60 second plank by the end of the week will gain immunity! emoticon

Start with 20 seconds, then 25 seconds, then 35 seconds, and so on. It doesn't matter how you progress but by the end of the week you should be able to hold plank position for a full 60 seconds!

Hi Everyone!

I've been sick with a cold and sore throat all weekend, plus working on my feet for hours too, so my weigh in was probably better than it would have been otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised to see it tick upwards again after I'm feeling better. Other than that, I've been okay. I should have a second interview next week for a job, guess we will see how it goes. My week is looking pretty uneventful otherwise--pilates on Tuesday, weight watchers and my weekly visit to the comic book store on Wednesday. What are you all doing this week?

Hi Everyone!

I'm sorry I didn't complete the challenge or weigh in yesterday. :( I was on vacation, up at a rockabilly car show weekender all weekend and by the time I got back, I was exhausted and it completely slipped my mind. I'll do better this week! The car show was a ton of fun! Amazing cars, good bands, and great friends! This show is called Mississippi Mayhem because it is along the Mississippi River, just outside of La Crosse, WI.

I hope everyone has a great start to the week! I'm back on track today and hoping to mitigate the damage from the weekend, lol.

Laura - My sister speaks Arabic. I really want to learn.
2 of my degrees are in French and Spanish. I went to uni in France :-).
How is he keeping up with his Arabic? Was it difficult for him?
I'm iffy on watching the Purge. I might watch it at some point. Right now, I am anxiously awaiting Carpenter's Halloween. It ignores all previous sequels.

Hi Ladies!

How is everyone doing this week? It is really hot and muggy here, with more rain expected in the next day or two. I hope the rain stops soon, we've had a lot of flood damage here in WI. There are still sections of roads closed here in Madison and other areas of state have serious damage done, with completely washed out roads and building destruction. Our area of town was fortunate to not get hit too badly, plus our house is on a hill, so we didn't have any issues, thank goodness.

This is not going to be a good challenge for me, so I apologize in advance. I was on restriction from weight training and pretty much anything beyond walking/pilates/yoga, but am now getting back into some low impact body weight exercises.

Renee--The fella was an Arabic specialist in the Army (1990s), also speaks/reads German, and reads some Spanish and French. He is amazingly good at picking up new languages and just kind of figuring them out on his own. As far as horror movies go, I prefer the classics--Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, etc. We did just watch The Purge, which was pretty good, not sure if I will bother with the sequels though. I love most zombie movies too.

We have immunity for this one because we had the highest percentage of weight loss. I'm not sure if we can gain immunity again if we already have it. In any case, I am trying to up my water consumption for this challenge.

Laura - Thank you! Which languages does he speak? I was a language major in uni and love them. Any favorite horror movies. I have never been to a haunted house. I always wanted to go, but would put it off til next halloween and then I moved and they aren't really a "thing" here like they are in the US. Halloween really isn't either. It has gotten bigger in the past 5 years. But, nothing like in the US. And, strangely, and in Finland (where I live), it isn't even celebrated on the 31st. Their all hallow's eve is in November. My son got to dress up for it last year.
He did get to celebrate one halloween in the US, but now that he's in school (well he has been for the past 3 years...4 if you consider preschool which is now mandatory), we don't have the freedom to leave like we did before. I really do miss it and all of the celebrating. There is something similar to trick or treating here. It is on Easter and it is usually girls that do it. They dress up as a witch and basically trick or treat.

Angel - Man I miss Halloween so much. I kind of wish my kids could really experience it. We visited the US when my son was 4 (just about to turn 5) and we were there for Halloween. Now, he'll soon be 9 and haven't been back. My daughter was a baby when we went. She doesn't remember anything.
Oooh that sounds great! It should take place then around the time this challenge ends. I hope you do it!

Happy Saturday, ladies! Last day to get those activity minutes in! I'm excited to see what next week's challenge will be.

I went to a neighborhood festival earlier and got some walking in, have to work later this afternoon, and then might head down to Milwaukee for a concert and some dancing hopefully.

Angel--I read a lot of independent comics, many of which are definitely for adults, but some are also kid friendly. I highly recommend Hellboy, Preacher and Transmetropolitan, which are older series. Currently I am reading Paper Girls (so good!), Saga, The Wicked + The Divine, Rat Queens, and I Hate Fairyland, as well as Doomsday Clock. I am looking forward to the new Sandman comics coming out and of course you can't go wrong with the original Sandman or Sin City. I haven't read Deadpool, but I did enjoy the movies. I am getting a little burned out on some of the superhero movies though. I'd like to see more of the independent ones get made into movies, but it probably won't happen. If you've got a good comic book shop nearby, take a look at some of these, maybe something will appeal. :)

Psychobilly is kind of a cross between traditional rockabilly music and punk or horror rock, like the Cramps. The band I'm (possibly) going to see tonight is a psychobilly band called Hillbilly Casino.

Renee--Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you had a good one. How cool that you're living in Europe and learning Swedish! My fella is super proficient at languages, but I am not. That is a talent I am always in awe of! I also love horror/thriller stuff. I love horror movies and Halloween, as well as all the iconography that goes along with it, but hate haunted houses, lol. I listen to the Zombies, Run! app on my phone almost every day when I take my walks. The story is great and it really motivates me. When I was able to run, I had it set so every so often, I would be chased by zombies and have to speed up my pace. You would hear them moaning behind you and everything. So much fun!

Happy Saturday everyone!

To catch up on minutes for the week, my goals today are :
20 min morning walk, 25 min DVD, 15 min on the elliptical, & a 20 min evening walk. If I could fit another 20 min in there somewhere for an even 100 fitness minutes, that would be awesome, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself, lol

In response to your comic book question: I am pretty basic in my comic tastes, focusing mostly on the badass women of DC, especially Catwoman & Wonder Woman. Thinking about checking out Deadpool because I get a twisted kick out of the movies! What titles do you read, not really familiar with Image or Vertigo, but now that my kids are older, I'm pretty eager to expand my horizons, lol...Also, out of curiosity: what constitutes "psychobilly"? I can honestly say I'm not familiar with that term, but it sounds fascinating!

I also am a horror/thriller fan, and now that Fall is almost here, I'm in my glory with all the Halloween and scarefest type events that will be popping up now. I am even contemplating a "zombie run" 5K, but we'll see about that, lol

I'm Renée. I just turned 45 yesterday (August 20th). I have significantly more than 70lbs to lose, but I am hoping to get at least that amount off. What can I say about myself? I'm the mother to two children (8 and 5) and born and raised in the midwest, but living in northern Europe. I hold 4 BAs and a certificate of proficiency (all of them are in languages). I've struggled with my weight all of my life. I have PCOS and most of its symptoms. I gained a significant amount of weight after giving birth to my youngest. I've lost the weight and then some, but I was morbidly obese even before I got pregnant. I've been doing intermittent fasting off and on, but plan on doing it more consistently (starting today). I lost about 40lbs a few years ago through low carbing, but stopped because of extreme constipation (sorry TMI). I am planning on starting again (again today) with more moderate low carbing.
What else? I am a huge horror and thriller fan. I speak a handful of languages and am currently learning Swedish.

I am definitely ready for the challenge, how about everyone else?

Hi HERKIMERANGEL80! Thanks for the add, I added you too. What kind of comics do you like? I'm a big comic book geek too--I tend to skew towards Image and Vertigo comics, not DC or Marvel so much, although I am reading Doomsday Clock (Watchmen sequel) and there's new comics in the Sandman universe coming out this fall.

So, a little bit about me: My name is Laura, I am 41 years old, and I live in Madison, WI with my fella and our cat, Nisse. I also have about 70 pounds to lose and have just recently started Weight Watchers, which seems to be working well for me. I tend to eat mostly lower carb, higher protein, I just feel better that way, especially since I am anemic. I was also recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, along with low back arthritis, so I am currently limited to low-impact exercise, but do get out and walk 2+ miles every day. I also do pilates once a week. I'm really into rockabilly/psychobilly culture and music and attend a lot of car shows during the summer, as well as concerts and other get togethers. I read a lot of comics, fantasy, and science fiction, listen to all kinds of music, and collect tiki stuff and vintage housewares. I have a BS in biological anthropology, but mainly do office work. Right now I am job searching and also waiting tables part time at a restaurant near my house. I think that about covers it, lol!

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! We can do this!!

Hi everyone!
I think this could be a really fun challenge--I hope you all are ready! ;)
I was kinda creepin' everyone's Sparkpage, & I think we have a very compatible group here!
Since my own Sparkpage is a bit out of date, I'll post a short bio here:
I am 38 yrs old and currently have about 70 lbs to lose.For the past 2 months, I have been following a "lazy" keto diet (i.e. very low carb, moderate protein, & high fat--but not always non-processed or organic) and have had moderate success--about 21 lbs down from my starting weight! I have a fitbit, so I always strive for 10,000 steps per day, which I've begun to ensure by taking a daily 20 min morning walk & 25 min of evening exercise (sometimes another walk, or the elliptical, or a beginner's kickboxing dvd).
I am married & have 3 teenage children, 2 cats, & 2 dogs. I love comic books & superheroes, Game of Thrones (books AND TV series), Halloween & Christmas. I live in Central NY.

emoticon to week 1 of the BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE!

Your challenge this week is to get as many active minutes you can as a team. You have Monday-Saturday with your weight due on Sunday morning (please post your weigh in with your active minutes tracker in your group so I can easily find it). The activity minutes can be any kind of exercise. Cardio, strength training, walking, biking, swimming, etc.

Each day record your active minutes in your team color post and at the end of the week the team with the HIGHEST amount of minutes will gain IMMUNITY from eliminations on Sunday, August 26. Those that fail to weigh in will cause a penalty to their team and two weeks missed in a row is an automatic elimination.

Let the games begin! Have a good week green team!

Make sure to record your weigh in for week 1 by Sunday morning on August 26.
