I've had the flu shot almost every year since 2001 (when I entered the military) and have never had a problem with it except the one time I got the active flu one (which made me feel icky for a few days). If your daughter tolerates it well, I don't see the prob., but if she gets the shot and doesn't tolerate it well or has a bad reaction she probably shouldn't have it again. Everybody's different - I tolerate the flu shot well so I get it whereas my husband is allergic to it so he doesn't. *shrug* Sorry I'm not more help, lol.

I've only gotten a flu shot once (after diagnosis). In all my 31 years, I've had the flu twice (once before diabetes).

It's recommended by docs for all people with diabetes. I think some people don't need to worry about it (like me and Superduper), it's all personal (like everything else with this disease) and you should talk with your doc if you're concerned or need some guidance.
The one time I did get the shot, I didn't have any side effects.

I have had a flu shot every year since I have been a diabetic. I know that with my compromised immune system getting the flu can be fatal. I feel it is worth the discomfort.

I don't bother with it. My reasoning goes along the lines of: in my 27 years of life, I've only had the flu once, and it only knocked me out for a week, it was unpleasant but there are worse things. Therefore getting the flu takes one week of time every 27 years.
Getting a flu shot hurts like the dickens and gave me a 2 day cold and a 3 day sore arm. Had I gotten a flu shot every year for 27 years I would have been out of commission for 81 days (27x3). Seeing how 81 is way more sick days than only one week, I will gladly take my chances and skip the flu shot.

I've been a Type 1 diabetic for 18 years and I've been getting the flu shot for as long as I can remember. My doctor recommends that I get one every year, so I do. I haven't had any bad side effects, just a little cold after getting it, but nothing too severe.

Hi!

I do not have type 1 Diabetes but my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed just over a year ago.

I was wondering, those of you with type 1, do you get the flu shot? I have heard the pros and cons of getting the annual flu shot and I was wondering what the norm is for people with Type 1.

THANKS!
